It's 2023, I have just watched this video giggling, having just seen it on the exact Macbook you've just unboxed. I bought mine brand new, back in 2010 for £750 ($950), and the machine is still going strong. However, it is not the original. It has had a new white shell, new motherboard, new screen, new trackpad, new harddrive, a least 3 batteries, and as for the bottom, the rubber came off completely and I now have just the metal plate there, with some black foam feet. It's had been used everyday of it's life. Nowadays, it lives on my desk and stays there, too fragile to really be moved. However, as a amateur author, it is a fantastic writing laptop. For my out and about laptop, I bought and refurbished, a 2010 macbook pro that was sold as the same time as this for about £70 or $100, and I like these old machines, because they are before the time before Apple glued everything in and could be entirely dismantled with a screwdriver. Parts are easy to come by, making them easy to repair. And yes, they are very shiny when new, but as my white mac proved, never give up on a machine.
This is my first and so far only MacBook, I have never used or owned another one. It runs at 16GB 1067 MHz Ram and a 1 TB Samsung 860 Evo. I have used all OS since OS X. It’s currently running with Monterey, sometimes a bit laggy, but it works for my daily tasks. I love my Unibody 7.1 and as long as it works, I will use it. 👍😊
@@brandonwear9081I installed Big Sur over Catalina with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, then Monterey 12.0.1 over the latest Version Big Sur. Today I updated to version 12.1, with OpenCore Legacy Patcher version 0.3.2. However, the latest version was increased to 0.3.3 1 hour ago. I will update them tomorrow on my 7.1. Sorry for my bad english. 👍😁
I used to use these Macs in elementary school and middle school that the district replaced in 2015. I have 2 of my own that I still use to this day that are running an SSD and 10GB of RAM. One with 10.14 using the Dos Dude patcher and one running nativly supported 10.6. Like Luke said these macs will run up to 16GB of RAM, but from my personal experience, they seem to perform better with 10GB of ram instead of 16GB.
I bought the mid 2009 version of that MacBook in 2013 secondhand for $300 off of amazon. I killed it during my first year of college, but it was my favorite MacBook I've ever had. The iSight camera from that era was the best.
I'm still using this macbook til this day ! it's a bit slow , but it gets whatever i need done . but so on , I'm looking for something to replace this old laptop
If you haven’t upgraded it that should keep it going for quite a while longer for your light workload. Take it to a repair shop they can get the battery replaced, SSD upgrade, Memory upgrade, and maybe get a faster CPU in there as well. I think you can even get one of the newer versions of MacOS on there as well. It shouldn’t be more than $500 or so with labor.
My school had these for years, and constantly upgraded them and fixed them to keep using them, they gave us these around 2014, but boy were they scratched and the bottom was more grey than white, the battery in mine ended up bulging to the point it may explode, it had pushed up the track pad and all. Isn’t that amazing to see that macbook turn on that hasn’t even been touch since factory
I consider this the most visually stunning Mac ever. Unfortunately it wasn’t powerful enough for me, to get it, but man what a beauty. Thanks for the great video, Luke! 💜
I actually bought one of these about six months ago (also new) for about $30 plus tax and it is beautiful. Best part? Battery was PERFECT. Transferred my RAM and SSD from my old 2010 White Uni and I am on cloud nine, lol. So technically, I have the last new mid-2010 White Uni, not you lol. Just wish Apple would get back to making pretty and unique laptops instead of the aluminum blocks.
Even though it’s plastic, I think it still looks fancy in 2021. I have a newer one (mid 2012 MacBook Pro) and I use it daily for programming at uni, works fine for me since upgraded to ssd 🥰
This channel is goin' in the right direction, good job Luke for stayin' creative and reinventing yourself and your content that you provide all the time, btw love the redesign on the new MacBook !
This was like my dream laptop for my family to buy 11 years ago when I was in 3rd grade. Of course we didn’t get it because it was insanely expensive here in the Philippines. We then got a a cheaper Windows laptop. Now my dreams came true 11 years later after I got my first ever mac which is an M1 MacBook Pro. Dreams do come true 🥲
I was in middle school when we got these, and my class was the very first one to get to use them, so we did get to see them when they were shiny and new. And we were the ones to subsequently ruin them.
I actually really liked the look of the glossy white plastic macbook. I was sad that they stopped making them, but I think I've come to terms with it now.
I loved my Matt black polycarbonate MacBook. Would like for Apple to release it as a 11 inch MacBook/iPad hybrid for schools priced around 400. Use recycled ocean plastic
The model from 2009 was my first Mac. I have some nostalgic feeling about this Mac, my 2012mid MacBook Pro that I use until today to work does not have the same feeling
Perfect timing! I sold my white MB computer earlier this year. Mistake! One of the coolest computers ever, and IMO the best keyboard Apple has ever put on a laptop. I watched this video in the morning, and then went to a garage sale. I found one of these at the garage sale for $20, brand new. Battery has only 25 cycles. Turned it on, fired right up. I out in a new SSD, and now it is a keeper. Thank you so much!
What good memories! I loved that you made an entire video using 2010s tech! So much nostalgia. This was my first ever MacBook and you brought back so many memories, from the completely mind-blown experience, to first video editing experiences! Thank you so much for this video!
I remember some of my classmates in uni having this MacBook. I can still remember how loud the keys of the keyboard were! As always, thanks for sharing this unboxing with us. What a treat!
I bought one of these two years ago thanks to this channel lol. I'm going to upgrade the ram and put in an SSD after the holidays. I still use it as a portable DVD player. It's perfect.
If you go to 16GB ram and get 1 tb ssd you can get it running on Monterey or Big Sur. done mine recently just remember to clone the old hdd to not encounter issues with the upgrade of the boot
This was my first MacBook. Absolutely beautiful machine, I mean don’t get me wrong the aluminium unibody is nice, but this white MacBook was so nice. Damn that Intro Music sent tingles down my spine. Brings back so many memories lol.
Still have it as my first Mac and use it every once a while nowadays, the late 2009 model MC207 with the box also. Changed the battery and the charger, swap HDD with SSD and it boots around 21 - 22 seconds. Fan kicks off when plays UA-cam in 1080 but doing fine with 720. Still a viable and competent browsing machine though. What's crazy about it when still using Snow Leopard, I got like 8 hours of battery life doing work in 2010 back then which was unheard of at that time. Good ol' times.
Apple had a bottom replacement program for years. I’ve owned probably 4-5 of those and I’d always get a new bottom from apple for free until they discontinued the program lol.
Still got my mid 2010 white MacBook, 2.4Ghz Cor2Duo P8600 with an upgraded Intel 520 SSD and 8GB of PC3-8500 memory. Replacement battery by Apple in 24/01/11 still holds 5082/5770 design capacity. Lovely bit of kit
The first Mac my family ever got in my household was a Late 2009 polycarbonate which looks identical to the Mid 2010! It’s served us well since 2010 when we bought it brand new. It currently has a fusion drive (HDD + SSD via adapter in place of super drive) along with 8 gigs of RAM
I actually own one of these MacBooks and the rubber bottom is perfect! a few light scratches on the lid and a small crack on the palm rest however the bottom is spotless 🙂
I think the reason why it got nasty for students is because of the dirt and grime on classroom desks that stuck to the rubber. They would also set it down outside on the grass and concrete. You’re not really thinking about preserving a cheap MacBook when studying for a degree.
@@markm0000 These machines got quite hot when doing a lot of video (as students are wont to do), and I think the heat degraded the adhesive and caused separation of the rubber film.
My high school had those back in the day for us the students to use. The NYCDOE emblem was printed on the lid. As a part-time technician after class, and in the summer back then I had to work on tons of those MacBooks for system recovery. My high school teacher from the IT department would order me a pizza and some coke for lunch while enjoying the cool AC in the hot summer. Good times.
I did the same thing. Every glass had a locking rack of these, and of course all the teacher pro laptops, and the library and computer room iMacs. I spent a lot of time in recovery mode reflashing OS and troubleshooting issues. It was my old applied tech teacher than became the tech coordinator and brought me along. I got to spend two periods doing that and didn’t have to go to gym or computer sciences :D
I owned one for years purchased brand new. Apple even did a recall free replacement for the rubber bottom. I updated the ram and HD somewhere along the way. I loved that computer.
I was a huge Apple fan back around 2010 and the A1342 Macbook was in my opinion the most beautiful laptop ever. Of course I would had never got it back then, but I decided that when I'm older I'm gonna buy one. And so I did. It looked pristine, no cracks, scratches and the bottom was almost perfect too. It was 120€, with charger, RAM upgraded to 8GB, and 120GB (if I remember correctly) SSD. It's more like a collectors item for nostalgia, but it works fine too. Looks just amazing.
These white polycarbonate clamshell MacBooks are probably one of my favorite Apple designs, period. I bought one of these in 2010 as a replacement for the white first gen Intel MacBook I’d been using since the summer of 2006. With 4GBs of RAM it was the perfect laptop to finish out college and ultimately got replaced with a MacBook Air in early 2012 when I started a new job. And yes, they did look this shiny when purchased new. And mine didn’t look half bad even after 2 years of use. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
I just bought one of these for £30 off gumtree, A+ condition, 2gb ram 250gb hdd , I’ve ordered a 120gb ssd and 16 gb ram , awesome videos man .. love it .
I am using a 2010 Unibody right now! Comparing this to my 11 inch 2013 MacBook Air, The screen is significantly better, and the upgradable storage will make this machine not bog down as much with over 20+ chrome tabs. The Air has 4 and always will, and I hope to upgrade this machine to 16 GB!
This is my everyday MacBook. Bought it brand new 11 years ago. Have changed battery, upgraded memory to 16GB and installed 1 TB SSD. Added a skin on the cover and around the keyboard to protect the plastic. Only issue is that it stops upgrading to OS High Sierra but for what I use it for, I could care less. I love it!
The principal of my high school for one of these as her school computer when I was a freshman and I had the pleasure of unboxing it. This generation MacBook is special.
I bought a 2010 MacBook last year and love the design. It had the original battery in it, which had only 18 charge cycles! The case is in very good shape with a few minute scratches. Even the rubber pad on the bottom is in good shape. The MacBook has been upgraded with a 240 GB SSD and 4 GB of RAM, which is plenty for what I use the MacBook for. It's too bad the polycarbonate case is so impractical, I like the design much better than any of the other MacBook designs. I'm now looking for a good example of the black polycarbonate MacBook at a reasonable price.
yep, I used those macbooks in school too. Fast forward 10 years and I have just bought my first ever macbook, the m1 macbook air. I have always like the mac OS (despite my lacking experience) and now I have been able to justify purchasing one (the sheer power of the m1 being owed most thanks). And now I am in the mac rabbit hole on youtube.
The little recessed section under the documentation was for optional accessories that could be ordered with the macbook such as the mini displayport to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapters. Also the battery was not user serviceable and had to be done by an Apple Authorized service provider.
I love that intro video. when I was a kid that was always the thing that I thought was super cool. it's not too long, not too patronizing, and the ending where it ends and then the welcome screen slides into view, it's just the perfect intro video.
This was my first ever MacBook, got it from school and kept it after I was done, it became my favorite device, so many movies, games, videos experienced. I would like to see a white MacBook again, something about white Apple tech just feels right.
I have one of these I use regularly, it's scuffed but clean, I use it to run two windows VMs (7 and XP) with legacy car diagnostic software. It's durable and doesn't slip easily. It's maxed out including two SSDs and 16gbs of RAM.
this was the macbook of my childhood, my mom used to have one of these and i vividly remember playing games on it, watching netflix, i think i spilled something on it at one point which made one of the key sticky, but it survived! i recently refurbished it and sold it, but the memories of that computer will surely live on!
Still have one of these in use at my house - bought new at Apple. Box is stashed away and the MacBook is in perfect condition. Updated with more RAM and an SSD, and it works just fine for basic use.
I've got one of those. I bought it a couple of years ago because I needed a laptop to get me through a JS bootcamp when I decided to switch careers, and I've never had a laptop before, I was all desktops all the time. I got it very cheap, equivalent to about 150 USD or so, and back then High Sierra was the current OS, so - amazingly - it was up to date. It looked pretty banged up, but inside everything was in order, I still get about 4-5 hours of battery life, and I bumped it up to 8 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. It got me through that bootcamp, and I got a job as a frontend developer. Now I have a 16'' MB Pro for work, but I still use the old one all the time, it's small, portable, silent, the screen is actually pretty good if you don't mind the small resolution. It's also perfect for playing Spiderweb Software RPGs :D
I really wish they’d never discontinued the intro videos… I still remember buying my first iMac with snow leopard on it, and unboxing it at my grandparents and the look on their face as this video played it was such a cool experience
Still using to this day. I only repaired it for blown speaker 2 times, battery replacement 2x, upgrade it to 8gb ram and change to 1tb sad. Running still to this day. Rocking high sierra. Very stable indeed. MacBook white unibody 13” mid 2010.😊
I still have my mid-2009 plastic/fantastic Macbook and I use it almost every day. It's a Core Duo and running El Capitan. Only one burp: The HD died a few months after i bought it, but the warranty replacement ran perfectly until I got my SSD. Replaced the battery 8 years ago. I write my novels on it and love the old thing.
Could you just imagine a nostalgic line of products. An iPhone in white polycarbonate. A iMac in all its g4 polycarbonate glory and a MacBook in its white polycarbonate shell. All new hardware. A renaissance line of products from their glory days.
I am currently using one! i have been using the mid 2010 macbook i put together when i was 22 for a total of $200 for about 3 years now :D its got a very cheep ssd and 8gb of ram i have used the Catalina patcher on it and it still runs fantastic with multiple chrome tabs and PyCharm open i am currently using it to learn coding! I am currently saving up money to buy a M1 14" macbook pro. I also want to mention it still has the original battery which is actually working well, The bottom rubber is in fantastic condition, But their are the small cracks around the hinges. I will be keeping this laptop forever as i also love the old plastic macs
A wave of nostalgia washed over me upon seeing that Snow Leopard welcome video after 11 and a half years. Those were the good ol' days of Apple, when iTunes and the iPod Touch was still around as well. How time has moved on.
We didn't have these ones at my elementary school. We had the previous ones and I remember being obsessed with them! I also remember when we got the white plastic eMacs upgraded from the older iMacs and everyone was so obsessed with them.
My first Apple laptop was this model, purchased on EBay, from a school 1 1/2 years ago! I upgraded to 4 gig ram and a 128 gig ssd, and High Sierra. It worked fine, for the things I do online, albeit slower. I sold it for the money I put into it, and upgraded to a 2013 MacBook Air to take advantage of Big Sur.
The 1st Mac I bought was the Macbook Pro 2009, I said to myself that when I had the money I would buy the most premium one I could pay. I still remember the feeling of watching that intro video when I started it for the 1st time!
Who used to own or use one of these back in the day? Did this video spark some nostalgia for you? Because it sure did for me!
I still use this every day. :)
I remember having one before my baby brother broke the display on it I had it for 5 years at the time when he broke it.
Like a year ago I was going to buy one as I’m broke but I’m not a cheap skate and I got a mid 2012 mbp
Had this one, gave it to my mom when I changed for a MB Air. With a few key upgrades she is still using it today!
Back in the day? This was mine primary and only machine up until february 2021! xDDD then I upgraded... to mid-2012 unibody 13inch :)))
I've still got one of these I use almost daily, but nowadays it does have an SSD and 8GB ram to help things along, but still very usable today.

How you running that even with dos dude patcher only goes up to Catalina
I have a newer one (mid 2012 MacBook Pro) and I use it daily for programming at uni, works fine for me since upgraded to ssd 🥰
man's unboxing an 11 year old macbook like it's a relic dragged up from the wreck of the titanic
This channel is goin' in the right direction, good job Luke for stayin' creative and reinventing yourself and your content that you provide all the time, btw love the redesign on the new MacBook !
Not gonna lie the review was actually pretty good
This was like my dream laptop for my family to buy 11 years ago when I was in 3rd grade.
The tray under the books was for optional extras, e.g. adapters you could configure to your order from Apple :-)
2 years after this video I still have mine and it still works.
It's so crazy how much these have changed over the years
They went from coolest shiny thing ever, to low end poverty spec, to absolute landfill, and now way over valued than what anyone could have predicted.
That review really just showed me how good the iPhone 4 camera was
I remember when this came out!
At that time this looked so futuristic!
This is the most beautiful MacBook ever made by apple… I still have mine from college, excellent video, thank you for the travel to 2010
I actually own one of these MacBooks and the rubber bottom is perfect! a few light scratches on the lid and a small crack on the palm rest however the bottom is spotless 🙂
It seems that the only way to keep creating new content is to choose a retro style when new products aren't coming out.
Well most of his audience is about his age and we’re all starting to feel a bit nostalgic.
I owned one for years purchased brand new. Apple even did a recall free replacement for the rubber bottom. I updated the ram and HD somewhere along the way. I loved that computer.
I was hoping he would open it and the box would be empty
The moment Luke opened the box and lifted up the lid revealing the MacBook, it gave me a techgasm 😲🤤 aaaaah the feeels 🤩
I got a black Core Duo 2.0 the week it came out. I was never so excited about something in my life lol
I just bought one of these for £30 off gumtree, A+ condition, 2gb ram 250gb hdd , I’ve ordered a 120gb ssd and 16 gb ram , awesome videos man .. love it .
Apple should release a throwback version.
I like how he treats the MacBook like it's so fragile he actually has to whisper while unboxing so as not to frighten it
I am using a 2010 Unibody right now!
I've got a 2009 with 8gb and a 128gb ssd that I use all the time. It's such a fun archaic machine to use. Plus it gets me a lot of stares in lectures.
Very cool. If I went back to college I’d definitely rock a old MacBook with a wired mouse for taking notes.
The little recessed section under the documentation was for optional accessories that could be ordered with the macbook such as the mini displayport to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapters. Also the battery was not user serviceable and had to be done by an Apple Authorized service provider.
I love that intro video. when I was a kid that was always the thing that I thought was super cool. it's not too long, not too patronizing, and the ending where it ends and then the welcome screen slides into view, it's just the perfect intro video.
lol i remember the middle school days and the dash for those nicer macbooks
This was my first ever MacBook, got it from school and kept it after I was done, it became my favorite device, so many movies, games, videos experienced. I would like to see a white MacBook again, something about white Apple tech just feels right.
Luke your tech channel is so refreshingly different. I enjoy every single one of your videos.
I've got a mid 2010 Macbook 16GB Ram, with Catalina on it
I think you can now go all the way to Monterrey? Sur at least.
I have one of these I use regularly, it's scuffed but clean, I use it to run two windows VMs (7 and XP) with legacy car diagnostic software. It's durable and doesn't slip easily. It's maxed out including two SSDs and 16gbs of RAM.
7:47
Sadly i never own or use macbook in my entire life
Man that bit filming and editing on the MacBook was awesome my favorite part of the video by far
10:07 “look at that beautiful facetime camera” it’s the same one they shipped until last year lol
if apple brought back this design language and threw in 8gb ram and an M1 chip i would buy it within seconds
I sold my 2012 MAcBook Pro. Years later I bought a White 2010 MacBook and changed the battery, upgraded the RAM and changed to SSD. I still love it.
this was the macbook of my childhood, my mom used to have one of these and i vividly remember playing games on it, watching netflix, i think i spilled something on it at one point which made one of the key sticky, but it survived! i recently refurbished it and sold it, but the memories of that computer will surely live on!
The intro music that he used for the iMovie review sent me back I actually felt like shedding a tear. Wish we could go back
I really wish they’d never discontinued the intro videos… I still remember buying my first iMac with snow leopard on it, and unboxing it at my grandparents and the look on their face as this video played it was such a cool experience
Upgrade it to 16gb of ram (2x8gb 1066mhz is max), replace hdd with ssd, and you have perfect machine from 2010.
I also remember when we got the white plastic eMacs upgraded from the older iMacs and everyone was so obsessed with them.
this MacBook looks like enormous AirPods case
if the MacBook is closed*
