Red here! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the game you were commentating. Seeing this video made my day! Thanks SotL! My idea with the early aggression is that when I saw blue had sent 4 vils forward so early, I was SURE he was not able to keep villager production up. He wouldn't have enough on food. And apparently I was right, he struggled with vil count in the early game. I also had ~5vils punching houses to drain blue's villagers idle time repairing the house and strain blue's wood, since I knew he would have less vils than me. In the early game, I kinda sent everything I could forward while still being able to mantain vil production up. Also, I REALLY wanted those boars because of the event challenges, I was doing the "kill 10 boars" challenge 11 But yeah, the cuts completly won the game for them. The hit and run decimated my economy in just a few seconds, when I tried to react I had already lost all the villagers, and my army was really far away, so even if I noticed it before, he would still kill almost everything I had. Also, with so many paladins out, I thought scorpions would just die, so legionaries were the play. But I was already dead when I noticed that, so it didn't even matter that much lol Great commentary, really enjoyed having a game I played commentated by you!
You both also were very much behind economically, unfortunately they just went turbo on their villagers while you and your teammate had too few TCs (To your defense you got pressured too, but your teammate kept doing too much for what his eco could handle) And yeah the housewalls would have helped you stalling the MaA and secured that gold for a bit I hope you had fun! The quickwalling was great
@@Mattroid99 we went turbo on dying😎 I think the lack of eco was fine because of the lead i had over green, the problem was poor gameplay by me after the big push (im yellow btw)
I think as soon as the cut through happened the winning play would have been to move your whole army over to help yellow kill green completely, then reboom. Even if you were basically out economically, you could have totally wiped out green and it would have been a 1v1 but you'd have still had a huge army to tip the balance.
I, for three, would add that SoTL is infinitely better than T90 - as would be many other legendary content creators whom I shall not name right now. T90 turned into a dick a few years back, and I hate it.

I love when you do commentaries. I know it’s not your thing but I really like it when you make these videos. Also love this channel, I learn so much and… it relaxes me. So many thanks good sir
Dude! You should definitely do more of this. I remember years ago you used to upload more of these ranked games, back in HD. I know it’s not your thing but you surely are very good at casting. Just for you to know.
Even tho I was rooting for red and yellow, imho they deserved the loss. They could have won multiple time but like SotL said they were playing too passively by letting their opponent live and not finishing them off. Red and blue could have finished each other off while only have their armies remaining but red recalled his intire army while still losing everything, so he could have just finished blue's economy while he was at it. And yellow had already basically finished green off but for some reason didn't go for the complete kill and they both lived to fight another day which they did and they won, so kudos to them!
Great cast! Who else was too tunnel-visioned on the fight between ballista elephants and paladins to notice three battle elephants killing 50 of blue's villagers on the woodline and farms?
Hey! Toalha (yellow) here! I never wanted to die because of an age of empires game before 11 I rly thought my boi @altripp (red) was trolling me when he said we were in a Spirit Of The Law vid, and when i found out it was this game, boy i wanted to shove my head in a hole and snap my neck 11 What can i say? We threw hard 11. I didnt had a plan other than sneak vil into lots of scouts, and after that many kills i just went into gg mode. Didnt added eco, shouldnt have clicked imp that early, (i remember saying in the discord call "ah yes, the infamous fast imp into nothing", cus of the whole 10min i didnt even had a castle 11), vils super late into stone, left green to fight blue way to early.. overall i would say it was a 7/10 strategy. I think it was more of a throw from my part, since there wasnt much of a surprise factor like "oops, 30 paladins in my eco". I had complete control over the push in greens base, and should've defeated him there. I massively overestimated the damage i did with that push and that got me killed Jokes aside, love to see one of my games in a vid from such a talented content creator. Myself and @altripp dont rly dive deep into post game analysis, so watching this was another one of the many learning experiences i had with this channel. Great vid! keep the good stuff coming! some more info: - yea, i forgor i was khmer and built a rax 11 - i didnt realized i left red open in the middle 111111 (get fucked @altripp) - the weird gate mentioned at 21:18 was because of a cut i did to allow some red vils trapped near his pond to run into my base. You can see an yellow dot going up there at 19:35 and at least 1 red dot coming through (i know, im a great teammate. i always ask myself "what can i do for my team") - the monastery at 28:25 was for herbal medicine 11 - the castle at 23:10 wasnt supposed to be built at that time (oops) i thought i retasked all vils, but apparently not 11 - at 25:20 blue lost so many vils to 1 or 2 battle elephants he took forever to get rid of. You can see them at 22:18 | 22:40 | 24:18 at the bottom left 11111
Love all the extra details you filled in. One thing I totally missed when I first watched the game but saw after I was going back to grab a thumbnail is the triple boar lure you pulled off. I wish I had caught it initially.
@@SpiritOfTheLaw The details are what makes this game so incredible ;) and after watching so many rage forest games, luring boars became 2nd nature haha
That beginning 😄 I hate playing in those games but it's entertaining to watch. I think if red had just kept attacking when blue got into his base, he would've killed blue and then yellow could've helped him clean up the paladins after finishing off green. One thing I've learned from watching the pros, if you're base in under attack, sometimes the best thing you can do is equal damage to theirs.
I think if red had just garrisoned his or her villagers, they could have taken a lot less damage from the paladins! All the players in this game must have learned a little and gotten slightly better from playing it, anyway, and hopefully some viewers did as well Honestly, red was still attacking, haha. Red just didn't send in the legionaries because he or she wasn't sure where the paladins were, and wanted to protect the siege. Once red noticed most of their villagers were dead, their reaction (sending legionaries back to defend) was as good as one could hope for. It was a mistake from red to not use their army for a long time and not keep at least one centurion with the legionaries, but no one plays perfectly.

I’m so mad at devs. They keep adding more and more civs that do crazy/broken stuff so that people will buy the dlc. Then they need them and release a new dlc. I’m tired of all this extra stuff. They are ruining the spirit of the game.
A lot of people thought that the initial Roman water bonuses were crazy overpowered, but no one seemed to consider that Romans don't get demo ships. Just like in other cases where a civilization is missing an option in a counter system (Koreans not getting demos, Vikings not getting fire ships, American civs not getting cavalry except genitours and xolotls), they needed their remaining options to be extra strong. What other part of Romans is crazy/broken? Their super-expensive heavy cavalry? Their infantry which (lacking supplies) is about as cost-efficient as half a dozen other existing civs? The bonuses they get for scorpions, the unit which probably sees the least use in the game apart from siege towers? It might turn out that they are overpowered, once we get past their novelty and the "people who want to win practicing and playing them" effect. But then, I've been following AoE2 long enough that Vietnamese still seem like a new DLC civilization to me, and they were the worst-performing civilization on the ladder before the last patch; maybe there is bias that I don't see. I think expert get more annoyed at patches breaking things unrelated to new civilizations, like the "go back to work" bug.
@@RiskyDramaUploads I’m feudal they dominate. With the extra armor and attack they only take two damage from archers with fletching. That’s just one thing
@@CoffeeAndBusiness Do Malians dominate with MAA? They're just as strong against archers, and probably are better at going archers themselves. Roman MAA are better against other units like villagers, but it requires a blacksmith and full price upgrade. Until then they're worse than Malians or lots of other civs with infantry bonuses. An immediate, free bonus can be very strong; just look at Magyars.
