Great video - Thanks! I just ordered an OSMO Action Camera to use on our farming videos. If you have time - question ... One of the things I will do with this camera is via a magnetic mount, attach the camera to our tractors and implements. Lots of vibration and with respect to our square baler, a lot of hard jerks (for lack of a better word - you might look at one of our baling videos to see this... ). I was thinking I would want the rock steady to help smooth out the vibration, baler motion and just bumpy terrain. I’m not so sure after watching your camera mounted to a car dash filming the road ahead. Any recommendations for setting up this camera for our farming videos are much appreciated. Should I use rock steady? Thanks again?
Hey there JHJ Farm, this is a cool question! Checked our your videos, you need something much more aggressive than rock steady to smooth out the bumpy vibrations and jerks or the equipment. Rock steady is good for minor shakes, but for your application you're going to need a gimbal to smooth out those shakes, and maybe even then it wont be silky smooth footage. Rock steady wont hurt, it will help to a point - but if you're able to drive slower, use rock steady or a gimbal and work on steadying your camera and your filming techniques while farming/filming that will go a long way. You can also try to use Warp Stabilizer in Premiere Pro or After Effects, but again that will only help so much. The best way to get smoother footage is to smooth out the camera first and only rely on technology when all else fails. You have a very unique situation, please keep me updated on what you come up with! Thanks for asking such a great question and watching.
Aerial Guide - thanks for the reply and recommendations. We are going to be cutting and baling hay hopefully around Memorial Day weekend. FYI - the guy that recommend the OSMO to me is farmer who lost his arms at around 2 years old. He does everything with his feet. I’m talking about driving big farm tractors and doing repairs, etc. He also drives a tractor trailer hauling corn from their farm. Unbelievable inspiring man. Checkout his channel, Harmless Farmer. Thanks again for your reply!
Just got an Action, very happy with it but it needs a micro sd card in to update the firmware, but if I then change cards, does it revert to old firmware again or will I have to update the firmware for each card?!
I'm not sure you need to use the same SD Card. I cycle my SD cards through my cameras and havent had a problem yet. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don't know if this has been asked yet, but is there way to prevent rain from getting in the USB-C port while you're using an external battery, like for timelapse? I was thinking of doing a sunrise, or just a moon timelapse, but I don't want moisture getting in the camera.
Hey there Ken, with the door off it’s not waterproof. The door has the gasket in it that makes it waterproof so if you damage that or remove it it’s no longer water resistant
I love good audio too! Thanks for the feedback - I try to get my audio as clean as possible. Most people focus on just the camera. Thanks again for the kind words and watching
Hey there Hen, I made this video before that firmware update. Thankfully we can film and switch screens at the same time now! Thanks for pointing that out and watching!
Hey there Gerald, not sure of the compatibility but definitely check out the app store for your device. There is usually a compatibility list on there at the bottom of the page! Thanks for watching and commenting!
THE VOICE CONTROL option is confusing it seems! you can only use it after stopping the recording. I tried saying " switch screen" " take photo" but it didn't do anything except for just recording. If I say " stop recording" it stops and then take photo and switch screen works! Am I right? Thanks
Hey there David, to be honest - it's something I havent really played around with. I typically turn the voice control off. I'm not a huge fan of it but if you're mounting it in a remote location I could see it's use. Wish I could help you more - I always found it more useful to use the app or on screen controls. Thanks for watching and commenting.
What is the safest ND stop filter I can use on a bright sunny day? Id like to buy a single piece instead of a pack of NDs just to test waters. Does ND/PL 16 works?
Depends on how sunny the day - nd16 is a pretty safe bet for most sunny days though. I have an nd vs ndpl vs no filter video that I go over this in more detail. Thanks for watching
thanks to your tutorial I have understood why I did't get to use 1/50 shotter and it doesn't work at 4k at 60p and it stop at 1/60 shooter but if you go lower than 4k 60p and you go and you set it a 4k 50p or also less 30p or 24p it works good also at 1/50 or even 1/20 second . so thanks because with artificial lights when you use 1/60 shooter it starts flickering while at 1/50 and 1/100 the flickering disappear .
Hey there, Tony. If you're shooting at 4K 60, you'll want your shutter to be around double your frame rate - so your ideal shutter would be about 1/120th. Any lower than that you'll get pretty blurry footage. Your camera typically wont let you lower the shutter as far as you can while shooting photos, while youre shooting video based on your what frame rate youre using. Thanks for watching and commenting !
Is there any way to take photos for every x seconds? I plan to take photos by leaving the camera and going to in front of the view. Then i want the camera will take 5 photos of me with 5 seconds, so i can use the camera when i travel alone.
@@keith-knittel Stalker 2 is a PC game that we are promised for more than ten years, but still can not release. They say it will be released in 2021. The developers once showed some screenshots and models, including a model of a loaf, while they boasted that they would make the graphics as detailed and realistic as possible...
I understand where you are coming from on the filters but at the same time Freewell doesn't do a good job of labeling the filters. So picking the wrong filter because it is not labeled well would be an issue with me but I'm not mounting my camera on a dog. haha... Good video good input just my 2 cents.
My filters are labeled in white text on the sides of the filters - most filters (especially at this size) are pretty tough to read. The Mavic and Osmo Pocket filters are even smaller type! But I totally see where youre coming from. It's not ideal to be so small. Thanks for watching and chipping in your two cents! It's a valid point
Hey thanks for sharing. I just purchased the osmo action. I want to use it to film scenic walks around London. What settings would you recommend to get the best quality while avoiding distortion?
The settings really depend on your lighting conditions and what you're trying to achieve with your footage, I would definitely enable Rock Steady and try to keep your ISO as low as possible. You probably wont need a really fast shutter speed since you're walking - but the exact shutter speed / frame rate is up to you! Congrats on your new camera and have fun filming! Thanks for watching and commenting.
The trouble with the Mimo app is it only pairs with certain phones. DJI gave me a list of phones it pairs to and my Samsung wasn't one of them, so I uninstalled it and had to a firmware update manually.
For some reason, DJI seems to work better with iOS devices. I'm not sure why, but android users are reporting a lot of problems using their apps. Sorry you're having issues with your phone - that is very frustrating. I hope they will better support android devices in the future.
@@keith-knittel Yes the list I saw it appeared all ios phones were compatible, and on the Android side, mainly Chinese brands like Huawei, Honor etc and Google phones. They said they would be adding more in future.
I DID! I always experiment with this youtube channel, and this time I turned up my light and added an ND filter. I like experimenting with these youtube videos since they are for fun and not a client. It's a stylistic choice for sure. By that emoji I'm assuming you didn't like it. Haha. Thanks for watching and commenting, good observation too. You're the first person to call that out.
Great videos! If you had to choose your top two or three ND filters that you primarily would use on average, what ND filter numbers would you recommend...ND 8, ND 16, ND 32, 64....? Thanks man! Again, awesome review.
Thanks for the kind words! If I could only have 2 ND filters, I'd get an ND8 and an ND 16. If you're filming in really bright conditions (I'm typically not) I'd go with an ND8 and an ND 32. I typically like to film towards the beginning or end of the day, so I mostly use my ND4, 8 and 16. ND 32 and 64 is pretty aggressive, but if you're in direct mid-day sunlight you'll need them. Thanks again for watching and the kind words, hope that helps!
@@keith-knittel Thank you so much for the fast response! Last question... have you noticed ND filters affecting your Rocksteady stabilization at all? One UA-cam review said that it affected it but I wasn't sure how accurate that was and if you noticed any of that at all when you use them. Thanks again!
@@keith-knittel some vlogging, some photography, some different perspective videography and also strap that on my pet😁.. means i will use it as much as I can... atleast it's cheaper than hero 8 but still a hard competitor 🤘
@@mrbobo6257 Honestly, any action camera will be able to do what you need it to do. I like the Osmo Action because it's easy to get the settings and the Mimo app is pretty simple to use and connect the camera to. The Rock Steady is good enough for me, but I haven't tested the stabilization on the go pro and this camera side by side. I've seen some videos of action cameras on cats and it's pretty wobbley - my german shepherd didn't seem to mind the camera on her at all. But then again, shes used to wearing a much heavier life jacket too.

Hey there Jagdeep, thanks for the kinds words. I love the low-key look, but that might not be for everyone! I have never used the Saramonic mics before. I've stuck the Rode, sennheiser and deity microphones and have had great results with them. Thanks for watching
I totally do not understand why in this day and age this camera does not come with a wireless remote control. with all the UA-cam vlogging etc it is pretty much a must-have for any action cam these days DJI Osmo has missed the boat. They need to include a remote control with all of their cameras
@@keith-knittel True, but phone apps for action cams are iffy at best. You need to rely on being in a good spot to get the camera app to work. With a remote, that is never a problem. GoPro, DJI Osmo need to learn this is the age of vlogging, and a reliable remote is a necessati these days.
Just so you know, there was an firmware update this week, you can now switch screens without having to stop the video. It just keeps recording.

She’s the Goodest girl. Search “go pro on a German shepherd home alone” on UA-cam for Lola’s most popular video on my other channel!
Go watch a dog video! FFS!!
Very usefull video, thank you!! what is this bread on the desk? Lol!!
Haha yes! That is my wrist rest! It does a great job believe it or not! Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Appreciate the tips 👌🏻
Thanks for watching, Steve!
Thanks for your tips bro.. I just click the red button already.
You're welcome - thank you for watching and subscribing! Means a lot, I truly do appreciate it!
@@keith-knittel it's just a bummer, because to do a decent time lapse, you need to use a larger battery
I love a good video with great audio. So important. Why do people not focus on their audio/mics?
I love good audio too! Thanks for the feedback - I try to get my audio as clean as possible. Most people focus on just the camera. Thanks again for the kind words and watching
@@keith-knittel you bet!
Actually you can record and switch screen while recording with the quick switch button.
Hey there Hen, I made this video before that firmware update. Thankfully we can film and switch screens at the same time now! Thanks for pointing that out and watching!
Hey man! Do u know any info if the mimo app is available in oppo phones such as reno 3 pro? Hope you’ll reply. Peace!
Hey there Gerald, not sure of the compatibility but definitely check out the app store for your device. There is usually a compatibility list on there at the bottom of the page! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Aerial Guide okay thanks man!
how did you do to make 1/50 shooter - mine arrive untill 1/60 so where I'm wrong ?
Your shutter speed will vary based on your frame rate youre shooting at. Thanks for watching and commenting
The osmos action is also a great camera to make footage at night.
As I was watching your video, my Osmo Action started recording. Voice commands were turned on, and it was responding to you!
Hahaha! I'll have to keep that in mind while recording my next video - sorry about that!
Question i downloaded that rock steady guide, But im new to all this camera stuff so 4K From first to last? 24 - 240
does this men FPS?
Hey there, yes that means FPS. Some resolutions only have a few frame rates while others (1080p) can go from 24-240 fps.
will camera save video its self if battary is dead? thank
I haven't tested it on this camera, but my Osmo Pocket will stop recording the clip when the battery dies. Thanks for watching, Gash.
THE VOICE CONTROL option is confusing it seems! you can only use it
after stopping the recording. I tried saying " switch screen" " take
photo" but it didn't do anything except for just recording. If I say "
stop recording" it stops and then take photo and switch screen works! Am I right?
Great vid
Thank you! And thanks for watching
@@keith-knittel you're welcome and ty for making 🙂👍
What is the safest ND stop filter I can use on a bright sunny day? Id like to buy a single piece instead of a pack of NDs just to test waters. Does ND/PL 16 works?
Depends on how sunny the day - nd16 is a pretty safe bet for most sunny days though. I have an nd vs ndpl vs no filter video that I go over this in more detail. Thanks for watching
@@keith-knittel i'll watch it! By the way, does the nd filter still the same even it came from a non reputable/ not known brand?
thanks to your tutorial I have understood why I did't get to use 1/50 shotter and it doesn't work at 4k at 60p and it stop at 1/60 shooter but if you go lower than 4k 60p and you go and you set it a 4k 50p or also less 30p or 24p it works good also at 1/50 or even 1/20 second . so thanks because with artificial lights when you use 1/60 shooter it starts flickering while at 1/50 and 1/100 the flickering disappear .
Amazing 😳
Thank you!
Osmo Action is so amazing quality
It's a great little camera! Thanks for watching, cary!
Is there any way to take photos for every x seconds? I plan to take photos by leaving the camera and going to in front of the view. Then i want the camera will take 5 photos of me with 5 seconds, so i can use the camera when i travel alone.
Hey there, yes - you can timelapse on this camera
i think its better all in all,i have got one already.
It's a great little camera - thanks for watching
Author, is the loaf on your table from Stalker 2?
Hello there, I'm not sure what this means. This baguette is for my wrist rest for my keyboard! Thanks for watching and commenting
@@keith-knittel Stalker 2 is a PC game that we are promised for more than ten years, but still can not release. They say it will be released in 2021. The developers once showed some screenshots and models, including a model of a loaf, while they boasted that they would make the graphics as detailed and realistic as possible...
Is the camera waterproof when using a filter?
Yes, but make sure the SD card door and battery are securely attached
@@keith-knittel ok thank you

doggie cameo, best cameo
She’s the best girl! I wish I could put her in all of my videos but she’s afraid of the drone noise. :( thanks for watching and commenting!
You can change screens while filming now. It changed with a firmware update. Lag is gone now too
Yes! Thank you for pointing that out!
Awesome video... new sub
Glad you liked the video and thank you for subscribing!
720p at 60fps would be nice for continuous recording.
3:35 the old dji screen lag has mutated to a physical lag now😂.
😂😂😂
Can it record using the front screen while the screen is switched off? Just curious.
The screen can dim after a certain amount of time to save battery life. Thanks for watching!
@@keith-knittel Thanks for the info.
Did you use an ND filter for this video set? 🙄
More Lola please !
Search “go pro on a German shepherd home alone” for Lola’s more cameo is video on my other channel! Thanks for watching!
Is it still a good buy this year?
I still use mine, and these are getting pretty cheap. I'm not sure if they are going to release a new one soon though? What will you be using it for?
@@keith-knittel some vlogging, some photography, some different perspective videography and also strap that on my pet😁.. means i will use it as much as I can... atleast it's cheaper than hero 8 but still a hard competitor 🤘
One more question will it work with cats?
@@mrbobo6257 Honestly, any action camera will be able to do what you need it to do. I like the Osmo Action because it's easy to get the settings and the Mimo app is pretty simple to use and connect the camera to. The Rock Steady is good enough for me, but I haven't tested the stabilization on the go pro and this camera side by side. I've seen some videos of action cameras on cats and it's pretty wobbley - my german shepherd didn't seem to mind the camera on her at all. But then again, shes used to wearing a much heavier life jacket too.
@@keith-knittel thanks for helping sir 😊
Is that wrist rest in the shape of a baguette?
It is!! It's a great wrist rest. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the tips, just brought the Oslo action with Christmas money I received, I was able to buy it for £229 at Curry's/PC World here in the uk. More than happy with the footage it records for the price. Happy new year...📷
Congrats on the new osmo action! It's a great action camera! Happy new year to you too, thanks for watching and commenting!
How about zoom ?
Very clear informative video. But your lighting and contrast seems to be low. Thanks alot for sharing. I'm planning to buy this microphone - Saramonic LavMicro U3-OA omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Type-C Connector for DJI. Any comments?
Hey there Jagdeep, thanks for the kinds words. I love the low-key look, but that might not be for everyone! I have never used the Saramonic mics before. I've stuck the Rode, sennheiser and deity microphones and have had great results with them. Thanks for watching
Greetings to Lola :)
Will relay the message!
I totally do not understand why in this day and age this camera does not come with a wireless remote control. with all the UA-cam vlogging etc it is pretty much a must-have for any action cam these days DJI Osmo has missed the boat. They need to include a remote control with all of their cameras
I totally understand, but I think the idea is to use the DJI Mimo app for remote controlling
