Im gonna have to try this next time i need to waterproof my buffalo felt hat. I used half a can of kiwi heavy duty boot spray for camping and gear and hand rub the chemicals in. Total of three coats on top two coats on the bottom.
A good felt hat which is not made of wool is naturally water proofed as it is beaver, rabbit etc. There are many so called felt hats made of things like wool etc. which are not a good quality to start with. A really good Quality Felt Hat is naturally water proofed. REAL ANIMAL FUR is what you need and not a mixture of things and then the company calling it GOOD QUALITY FELT.
They are actually water resistant, not water proof , exposure to heavy rain will still ruin them, but there's no way in hell I'm doin this to my good hats
Thats VERY cool, I'm gonna use this technique on a felt patch I wanted to put on my waterproof jacket.

Yes I know this. And it shouldn't have to be said. This is a fur/wool felt
