Definitely time to wear a mask. 😷 looking better but I'd like to see it steamed. Thanks brother Kevin. 🎶🎸🎶👍
Dude you left that hat looking brand new makes me feel better about wearing my hat more and not getting it dirty or damaged Great video
Makes you look more authentic if you’re hat is dirty
Only in NY would someone buy Billy the Kids hat and have it cleaned so they can wear it lol. Amazing job
Wow, that hat was crusty! Nice clean up!
Do you really have to dis NY to make your point?
@@justmeeagainn lol
Last time I saw anything that dirty I had to pay admission.
Wow! I’m no longer going to worry about my Rodeo King getting dirty. Whatever happens happens. I do plan to avoid drenching rain.
You did such a great job on that hat. I couldn’t tell if it still has the satin lining intact and also, what would it cost to replace the band now that it looks so nice? Great job bud. I’m totally fascinated by anyone restoring anything from old cars to Nintendo controllers and systems. 👍☮️🌞🌟🤠💕
Not exactly sure, I think a leather sweatband might be $45, it’s listed in our catalog
@whippersnapper exactly .Some people forget nowadays that some materials were used as bad weather protection.
This was awesome! My dad passed away recently and I was cleaning out our old garage. Found my dads hats from the 80s! Super dirty but after watching this I wanna try to clean some of them up a bit!
Sorry for your loss, sounds like a cool project, just get the flexible sanding sponge from 3m, and a brush..
@@quadrogong1111 thanks man! & thanks for the advice! I appreciate it!
Wow great job Kevin
Nice job
All I can say is
.... WOW! You are the Master Hatter, Kev!
Yes! a new episode "Good Ole Western hat adventures"
Kevin cleans and reshapes William H Bonnie’s aka Billy the Kids hat , ready to hit the trail again! amazing! 🤠👍
This is reassuring since I just ordered a 20X silverbelly today.
Wow! I couldn't imagine taking sandpaper to a hat like hat but it really worked.
When the hat you like spent the last 43 years helping scare birds away.
You obviously love the challenge Kevin 😆
I bought my Stetson 6X Rancher about 48 years ago.
I recently cleaned it by brushing it, then soaked it with the kitchen tap and let it dry… any remaining spots were sanded.
Looks brand new. A good hat will take the rain without any worries.
What type and grit sand paper did you use?
I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
I have my late uncles cowboy hat it needs a sweat band but I do not want any of the dirt or mud removed from the hat is that possible for you to do?
Yes
It's some kind of Hat Trickery Magic. Well done!
Amazing.
Whoa, That Hat has been through it all and then some. Great job.
What grit paper is that?
👍👍
Not sure, kinda medium I don't really care, most of it works fine
It's made by 3M, it's purple and says "medium smooths 150"
150 medium smooths
Phew! Great work Kev!
Wow I had no idea how tough hats were awesome job get in there and go at it 👍
Amazing job sir 👏👏👏👏
A real master at work
Kevin you are the master.
The king of Steam working his freaking magic. Nice job!!!
The owner must have fought a Predator Hunter, so he needed to dive into a pool of mud to save his life. 🤔 Tough yet pretty good hat.👌
I was just in that store a few days ago.
LOL. Looks like Teddy Roosevelt's hat! Good thing you were wearing a mask!
That was so satisfying! The Brim Reaper strikes again!
I sneezed watching this!
Any vids on repairing month divits?
That was fantastic! What an amazing difference. My husband has an Eddy Bros that was in a cattleman style...he prefers the Gus style. I had not much trouble reshaping it over my teakettle; the crown stays put, but the brim tends to slightly curl back up and lose the front & back dips. It is Durofelt. Any hints how to make it stay?
Stiffen with super hold hair spray, let the coat dry, repeat .
@@quadrogong1111 Excellent! Thanks a bunch.
Another question: How easy (or difficult) is it to remove sweat and/or sweatband stains from straw hats? The stains in these old hats have probably been there for some time, and I think probably the leather hat bands' color added to the stain. Thanks!
It’s impossible. There might be folks that clean them w chemicals, but I don’t know of anyone like that
@@quadrogong1111 Thanks for replying!
Hey Kevin, for summer. The gambler? Or royal flush straw? I mean I know the straw is lighter but both being white hats do you think the felt version would look silly with a Hawaiian shirt in the heat? I plan on getting both of them. Which would you get first your opinion
No felt on summer, you'll wanna take it off after a minute. Go w the straw version for june-sept
Great cleaning job ...! 😀
I have a few hats just as nasty or worse. I live on a farm in Montana. Ppl will pay hundreds of dollars for that dirty worn look. Out here thats just how ppls stuff wear out. I like the look there just storys and so much character
Great video, once again, Kevin. Feel like I've learnt so much from watching your channel over the years.
Do you have any opinion on the Pure Stratoliner? I have a regular Stratoliner (in Sage) and an Akubra Stylemaster; the Stylemaster is my 'everyday' hat (going to work, etc) because it feels more 'substantial' and hardy owing to the felt, but if pushed I prefer the cut and the feel of the Stratoliner, so that's my 'luxury' hat. I've been eyeing up a Pure Stratoliner lately (either in Blue or Tobacco). Would that hit the sweet spot between my love of the regular Stratoliner and the hardiness of the Stylemaster, do you think?
There’s no comparison in heartiness. Akubra crushes it, get it because u want a nice stratoliner, but don’t expect it to be hearty or do well in the rain like an Akubra, I’m not a fan of Stetson open roads myself,if you’re looking for hearty, go Akubra..
if u want something that has the open road look, get an open road, but that felt isn’t really rugged or strong..
@@quadrogong1111 Thanks, Kevin. Much appreciated! 👍
Awesome
I hear Hound Dog Taylor in the background.❤
What grit of sand paper do you use for felt hats?
not sure, I use many different ones, anything is okay, nothing coarser than let’s say and Emery board, but fine is ok, not extra fine
Badass, what grit of sandpaper do you use?
I think I use 120 and also 180…I use a 3m flexible sanding sponge, the double sided red ones, I think they’re 120 grit, Im not sure offhand, I’m at home now, something a little finer than an Emory board is good..
What about bad sweet marks any tips
This video made me sneeze.
JEEZ that hat is nasty and you made it 1000X cleaner
Thats the dust taken care of, what about human skin oil stains from fingers?
That’s not cleaning lol that’s tearing the stains off using sand paper and then brushing the felt dust away
Basically removing the top layer of felt, buff it out and the finish with a brush, it’s pretty effective unless the stains go deep
Anyone on here know how to dye a felt cowboy hat?
If it were me I would have hauled all the equipment outside. Did you use a vacuum and disinfectant in the shop afterward? Could you have used soap and water? What about dry cleaning?
No no and no, it was just dust, wasn't that hard..
I just sprayed it w Lysol and cleaned the table,swept..we do that all day anyway
Where did that come from?!
Walk in customer
🤘🏽😎🤘🏽
any else start sneezing?!
Does all this sanding damage the structural integrity of the hat much?
Not if done properly, and carefully.. if u do this 10-15x it will start going too deep and it’ll get worn in that area.. but doing it once a year, twice a year is fine.. don’t overdo it,
Hey, I wanna see the end of it!
That hat was probably a silver belly? Guessing because you could sand it? Great job cleaning it? You deserve a large monetary tip!
Yes,good guess. Silver belly.
some things you can't save
This is too simple to be true... looks like dried clay and easy to remove...
Is this a demonstration only or is someone planning to have the hat refurbished?
Yes I cleaned it for a customer and they're getting a new sweatband too
How much for a cleaning like that?
nice
Needed cleaning before taking it for cleaning.
Do you do sofas too? ;-)
😅✌️
I didn't think something more dirty then my ex-wife existed in the world Lol
🤣
And I thought my Buffalo hat was dirty ha
Is that beaver or rabbit?
Mostly rabbit, maybe a touch of beaver. That’s a Stetson western
Watch it at 2x speed! Much cooler!!
I'd have thrown it on the ground 5-10 times to get the sand out of it. 😂
Did they dig that hat out from an archaeological site???
It belongs in a museum
Were you wearing a mask because of COVID or all the dust coming off the hat?
Yes always
Wow Def the dirtiest job I've seen. Well done.
I would have told the owner he has to cause the mess and buy all your coworkers lunch for contaminating the store...
Wow…dirty or what
I was here 1st 😆
