I built mine with a 340 block, .030" over and 4" SCAT crankshaft (416 cubic inches), back in 2001. Using Edelbrock heads with upgraded dual valvesprings and a Ultradyne .590" lift flat tappet solid lifter cam, it made 525HP on pump gas. Very cool build! I had a 79 powerwagon with a 360. Rebuilt with a mild cam upgrade and I put an edelbrock performer intake and 4 barrel carb. Never had it dyno tested but even with the full time 4wd and big tires it moved that truck with ease and sounded amazing doing it 👍

The 1971 to 1974 360 cylinder blocks have thicker cylinder walls than the 1975 and newer 360 cylinder blocks. I had a 360 crankshaft turned down to fit a 340 block and a racing flywheel offset balanced to the crankshaft, using a 360 balancer on it.I almost used a longer stroke crankshaft, but back then, they were expensive US-made parts.
Nick, I’m from Louisiana, we are the same age. I had a 70 340 swinger in Highschool. Orange with black interior. The owner bought a new Fluidamper which I installed with my Bluepoint installer and all was well.

Let me clarify the double feed carb gets more fuel to the rear bowl after that nothing. Everything at that point is in the metering block ,power valve , the jets and the Venturi design and flow. Not the tiny momentary squirt from any accelerator pump, that is to richen the initial crack of the throttle. (Slightly rich) is great when pulling up to speed , but not great while cruising. changing the spring tension in the diphram for the vacume secondarys makes big differens the carb should come with 4 different springs that change the opeing of the scondaries at different rpm
Would be interesting to see a couple of different intake manifolds on this combo. Like a Vic JR and an M1 Mopar and maybe a tunnel ram to see the difference between them say 2 450s on the ram the rest 850 DP
Nick, I say be sure to run that exhaust fan when dumping fuel from carbs and using solvents; that stuff if highly toxic and you do NOT want to breath it! Be careful! :)
Definitely going to build my 5.9 block I have, was gunna ditch the 5.2 and 5.9 blocks for alike a hemi or a 440 for my 69 fury but factory small black car would be easier with a beefed up 5.9 for sure

The larger bores have better intake and exhaust flow. 360 blocks are relatively cheap in the US. Also 340 blocks are even better, but they are not cheap. I have a 1989 360 block, so it is set up for a roller cam, but still has oil flow to the heads.
Actual question. Would a Grand Cherokee AWD unit work with such a combination in a Dakota? I was thinking about Stay Tuned's Sike Clone where they used a 4wd S10 and a AWD unit from an Astro van.
I've said it before and I'll say it again Nick second time around watching this video and I'll tell you what my friend you are the best.. end of discussion
Thanks for all your great dyno videos . I wish that you would give cam specs type of cam and lifters used types of pistons and cylinder heads used . Like I said great videos. 👍
Always loved small blocks making big block numbers, thats the way ive always went with my cars, why have all that nose weight if you dont have to right? However, i would like to see a 400 low deck with hemi crank and rods, special keith black pistons and 65 cc aluminum heads done at your shop Nick, i think you might be surpised at the horsepower this combination can make. There was an old hot rod or mopar muscle article written on this build and they got 900 naturaly aspirated horsepower from that combo, needless to say i was quite impreseed! Great job with the LA 360 though, its making tons of power for a little light weight A body car, should be lots of fun if he can keep rear tires on it!😂😂😂😂😈
Not bad, usually I would say those 4" cranks are a waste but that one sounded sharp. If in a lightish car, Challenger etc it should be really heathy with say 3.00 final drive.
I’ve got a 84 dodge w150 1/2 ton truck with a 360 out of a 88 donor vehicle currently in it, no emissions hooked up. The 360 is burning oil and ready for a full rebuild. What are peoples opinions on rebuilding this engine vs a 3rd gen hemi swap. I’ve got access to a 07 Durango with a 5.7 hemi, just need to decide what route to go for both power and reliability.
I didn't see a build video of this engine, would be nice to know what heads other than just Edelbrock and what cam is in the engine. Idle sounds pretty smooth, what vacuum did it pull? Over 400lbft at 2800 may well be a good engine to duplicate and put in my truck. Can we get some info Nick?
Was that 408 running stock heads and cam? The only thing Nick mentioned was the Edelbrock intake and the stroker kit. If he got stock Hemi torque and HP numbers with a stock cam and heads on that 360 stroker... WOW!!!!
I would really like to know the specs where is the piston at in the whole below the deck flush deck sitting out the hole what’s the compression ratio? i’m gonna assume you went flat tops with Val remix or did you go with a dish so you could fit a bigger cam? What heads are they? did you find the cause of the oil pressure after warm up? i’ve got a 360 block 30 over 4 inch stroke Mopar crank deck block, 0.003 out the hole. it comes alive pretty quick what it lacks on the bottom in it makes up in top in against my big block. They ran identical ET’s.
Thank you sooo much Mr Nick. I've come to realize that the English language is one of the worlds' most difficult language to master. Thank you for trying sir. So I'm sure it can be difficult for you and that if I spoke French to you, (if I could), It would be bad at best. So out of love and respect for your/our passion for engine tech and learning, I apologize for being a bit harsh previously. cheers🇨🇦🏁👏 👏P.S. In my opinion, I'd go with the 770, only because it's the cheapest option and there's very little performance differential. The only other consideration would be economy.

Regret giving one away for peanuts 15 years ago, virgin bore & no lip in the bores.
The things we do.
Cheers

changing the spring tension in the diphram for the vacume secondarys makes big differens the carb should come with 4 different springs that change the opeing of the scondaries at different rpm
Would be interesting to see a couple of different intake manifolds on this combo. Like a Vic JR and an M1 Mopar and maybe a tunnel ram to see the difference between them say 2 450s on the ram the rest 850 DP
the best sounding motor I have ever heard on your dyno
Nice 360 stroker motor build, it put up good number with your carburetor
NICK'S GARAGE NUMBER ONE ALWAYS
I think the 770 is alright carburetor for it just the fine-tuning maybe a spacer between the intake and the carburetor will help
Nick, I say be sure to run that exhaust fan when dumping fuel from carbs and using solvents; that stuff if highly toxic and you do NOT want to breath it! Be careful! :)
Definitely going to build my 5.9 block I have, was gunna ditch the 5.2 and 5.9 blocks for alike a hemi or a 440 for my 69 fury but factory small black car would be easier with a beefed up 5.9 for sure
mopar nick in the zone-having fun/he knows what he is doing/the distributor points and condenser or electrical/sweet nick/what the timing set at inital BTDC/thanks much
Awesome show that is a awesome engine good job on the build Nick and crew keep them coming and see you Friday
The 360 and 400 magnums respond well to basic hot ridding well done.
I loved this video. I love to see the effort to tune it right.
Awesome job Nick 👏
360, stroked out it's the poor man's Hemi. Well done Nick!
MORE LIKE WISE MANS SMALL BLOCK LESS WEIGHT FOR ONE
That sounds so sweet!
It does!
You left the vacuum open with vacuum advance test.. leaned out??! Love the show and what you do.. Thanks Nick...👍🏼😎
Can never have too much brake cleaner in the dino room... Here we go!
Chattanooga home of Sticky Finger's Barbeque. I'm close enough in north Georgia to go there often.
There are two stars in the sky of cars: the 350 Chevrolet and the Super 426 Hemi. It accepts all the horses and does not care about anything.😊
I would love to see a 318/5.2l 390 Stroker built the identical as this engine, I am curious to see the difference
The larger bores have better intake and exhaust flow. 360 blocks are relatively cheap in the US. Also 340 blocks are even better, but they are not cheap. I have a 1989 360 block, so it is set up for a roller cam, but still has oil flow to the heads.
Would be cool to drop into a four wheel drive regular cab V8 Dakota themed similar to the GMC Syclone.
Actual question. Would a Grand Cherokee AWD unit work with such a combination in a Dakota? I was thinking about Stay Tuned's Sike Clone where they used a 4wd S10 and a AWD unit from an Astro van.
@@kart70 They made full time AWD Dakota's.
There is a reason why they choose the La small block for the starting point for the design of the mighty Viper V10!
Nice build Nick and thanks for sharing!
Hi! Great video! 412 vs 422 is not much, so he could run with his original carb.
Putting together a 360 with same intake. I have a 600 Holley. Will shop for a 750.
I have .477in cam to install and stock heads.
I've said it before and I'll say it again Nick second time around watching this video and I'll tell you what my friend you are the best.. end of discussion
My 360 stroker gas bee running 20 years in my 62 Duster fiirbrake care. She gas a but if blowby but she still runs consistently
I read about a 360 stroker with a chevy crankshaft
Love, love, love this channel! 🚗💨 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🇬🇷 🇦🇺
I would love to see my twin turbo 318 in your dyno room...dreams
Nick the magician! Working his magic!
Maybe try changing the spring for the vacuum secondaries and give it more air flow?
@@generallao1554 can adjust that on the dyno as well. Done it more than a few times
Beautiful job, Nick!
Sounds great nice job.😊
Sharp as a tac is our nick❤ love it....
What size of a hemi would make power like this guys a 392 hemi or a 426?
Cool. Love it. Thanks Nick. Best Regards
AWESOME vid Nick.....MOPAR 4 EVER.
Thanks for all your great dyno videos . I wish that you would give cam specs type of cam and lifters used types of pistons and cylinder heads used . Like I said great videos. 👍
Bad ass 360, another awsome monday! Thanks Nick 👍
WOW!!!!
Irma's a cutie! Nice purse, Ron.
The ole 750 edlebrock did pretty good
I miss when you used to hit the switch to start the test you always, in the past, pointed at the engine.
Got a Mopar400 on a 73 charger and wanting to do the same! Please Get back with me.
Thank you
Great video Nick😊
hey nick 'can you divulge cam specs?
