The dip switches on my Model D worked straight out of the box. I even tried 3 different channels and they all worked, after setting the corresponding send channel.
@@abominablemusic If you notice, in the SynthTribe software image, the first line "MIDI switches" "MIDI Channel Switches" is set to DISABLE. Prior owner must have set the MIDI channel, then disabled the switches to avoid accidentally changing the channel.
Thanks so much man, i was going nuts to why my model d wasn't sounding. I just installed Synthtribe and hit the reset to factory settings button and BANG! It worked right away. 💯
2:13: Sooo… you did not try all 16 channels via the dip switches? Or not try setting the midi transmit channel of your controller to each of the 16 channels and try it? Or you did both those things, and none of them worked?
this is the first time I'd owned anything with these sort of dip switches. My mistake was assuming I understood how they worked. I was wrong. All good now.
Thank you! Can you please tell me if I need an audio interface for Behringer Model D? And how do I work with my speakers, computer and my midi keyboard?
you are going to need something to handle the analogue to digital conversion, so you would need some sort of audio interface. To get started, I'd suggest a small mixer that has USB, this would give you the ability to get audio into you PC/Mac, but also monitor (headphones), connect speakers, maybe another instrument/mic. Any MIDI keyboard should work.
hello, I have just purchased a Behringer Model D and when I turn it on there is only the overload button which flashes quite quickly, the power button does not light up can someone help me help please?
from memory, the overload button flashes as an indication that the audio in is too hot, so that sounds weird 'out of the box'. Does the A440 tone sound?
thanks so much for this video ,I have just bought a brand new model d, and couldnt get a sound out of it (except the A440.) I have been using mono synths for many years including original moogs, so I knew to open the amp env and turn up the oscilator volume, etc. I had no idea that I had to download drivers for an analogue synth, new to me. thanks again.
I'm hearing mixed comments here, for some folks, it worked out of the box, for others, seems like the App was necessary. Glad you've got it working. For regular use now, I don't fire the App up each time (but actually, I'm using it in CV mode now).
That is weird ... i had no problems with mine ... no need for special software... I just put the right midi channel and my cubase and it played directly ...
In my experience, mac refuses to install most software (security feature). If you open Security settings, you'll see a message telling you the OS has stopped you installing this software, and there will be an option to override this.
yes, second-hand unit, so I wasn't sure if the dip-switches matched the software set-up, I'd never encountered these sort of dip switches before, hence my confusion. Thanks!
Man I wish Behringer (or any synth Ive tried really) would invest a little effort into making the software run in Linux, but nope, can't use any of it. Arturia's software doesn't work either, gonna have to set up a dedicated Windows box for it, and I just can't tolerate being extorted for cash, or "subscribing" to something just to open notepad, it was bad 20 years ago, but it's out of control now IMHO, sorry, just bitching down here lol, but thankfully, it all works without the PC. At least it sees the Scarlett, be a drag if the audio interface didn't work.... 🤔
@@abominablemusic I really love this Synth. Just received it. But the sound is amazing 80th style. USB for Midi and Audio out in my analog digital converter. With Logic Pro no problems to work with. After some UA-cam videos the handling is very easy. Quality is good. Knobs and mechanical parts are of good quality. Some trials and I know how to get the wished sound out of the synth. I have a midi keyboard to compare with and a drumsynth. Clear: YES! Poly D is worth the money.
yea, some synths send CC from their rotary controllers, for example, the Skulpt can do this. Sadly, not so with the Behringer synths (well, maybe the Deepmind). There are control voltage outs, so you could control eurorack stuff... This might be considered a big missed opportunity from Behringer, since they implemented the USB connectivity and have released various MIDI controllers in the past...
But if you just want to connect a keyboard via midi to the midi in of the model d and then to hear the sound via headphones for instance, you don't have to do this setup right?
Well, in principle yes, especially if bought new. The synthtribe app let's you disable the little dip switches at the back, so if you've got a second hand unit, the previous owner may have done this. Assume the dip switches are functioning, and set the midi controller to the model d channel and you're good to go.
So if I'm understanding correctly... The guy before you messed with the micro switches in the back panel and got the midi channels all screwed. The app disables them so that midi channels can be set through software.
the app can enable/disable the dip-switches, yes. So, if you got a second hand unit, you'd have to check a) what midi channel is set on the dip switches at the back, and b) are those dip switches enabled or disabled (which you need the app for). If you bought a new unit, I'd imagine it's all much simpler: likely set to channel 1 on the dip switches and the dip switches engaged. I have a few hardware synths all set to different channels, so I'm a bit OCD with this sort of thing...
hum, tricky one. If that was me, I might try a different USB cable? Does the Synthtribe app just keep cycling over the various Behringer modules when you one it up?
@@ridikuluztie5605 you will need a usb cable to use the synth tribe app. Some folks are reporting they can just set the dip switches and everything works. The only time I used the synthtribe app was to set the midi channel, so it's not essential as long as you know what midi channel the D is set to.
@@abominablemusic I mean I mainly wanna use Midi and Mono to Mono because my Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 doesn't have a USB port. I do however have the type of needed usb and a free port In my PC. But if I don't really need the app for other than Midi Channel selection then I think I'm fine. For now. :)
Great video, getting my Model D tomorrow. I have the wasp already. Please don’t take this the wrong way. I found it quite irritating that you say “Um” all the time lol.
Um isn't even that bad. Kids these days, like, like a fucking maniac. Like, you "know what I mean? Know what I mean is another "um" . And I'm hearing the " does that make any sense?" A heck of a lot.
interesting use case! The note to midi tracking is always the key for this sort of thing, if the tracking is good, and the bass playing is fairly clear and clean, you've got yourself a 'human bass synth'. Things get interesting when you play with gliss and bend notes (basically, good decent guitar playing), sometimes the midi doesn't quite know how to translate this, but can lead to interesting results. You could try with a software synth first?
Thank you so much!!! You saved me a lot of headaches and worries!

Good luck with it. The D is basically a 3 oscillator mono with a ladder filter, once you figure out that middle section, you're basically there.
