Would have been great if they described the treatment to my parents in full detail... 14 year old me wasn't mature enough to look into it myself, and my parents didn't know any better. Orthodontists will NEVER say "Oh, all we're gonna do is recess your kids face until their teeth align." Now, over two years later, I've only now become aware of the consequences. Only a few months into the treatment, I had a beautiful face. Sloped maxilla, decent forward growth (My facial structure was still developing). It seemed that the braces were doing their thing; just fixing my overbite. But as the treatment intensified and I began receiving tighter elastics and stronger power chains, I noticed that rapidly decline. Not only has my chin begun to slightly curl upwards, my face has also begun to flatten out, my below eye area is significantly worse due to the recession of my maxilla, my nose appears larger and disproportionate to my other features, and basically, I'm cooked af. I would must rather have that overbite than do what they did to my face. Unless you have some one in a million orthodontist that actually cares about your facial aesthetics, you're gonna end up getting a retractive treatment like me. These scums only want your money. At least they didn't propose removing any teeth which would have made my situation 10x worse.

My chin was slowly moving backwards (no big changes but i noticed it). so i searched what to do and i found mewing. now i have a really pronounced jawline (on both sides, my right side of my faceside used to be more dominant). so i think mewing works. but i must admit that i have always had a jawline (not a great one) and never a very recessed chin, so i didn't have the worst preconditions from the start. but i want to say that i was quite young when i started mewing and so my face was still fully developing so maybe my face would have saved itself

@ashassassin, I had the exact problem in teenage years when I didn't had braces; I had this for years on and off until I got braces and my bite got better. It is because of incorect allign between upper and lower teeth, it is a real condition and it means either the orthodontist did a bad job with braces, or you go throw changes and it will soon pass after your bite gets better and braces allign teeth properly. Yes it’s still sunken maybe a little better because I’m trying to reverse treatment by wearing the aligners in reverse. A doctor named Brad Lockheart said the sunken effect is because the master muscle is relaxed due to treatment and that makes the cheek bones look more prominent.

Depends how much effort braces did to push the maxilla back and down along where there elastics, extractions being used? , Along with how narrow it made your palate. Most likely the removal of the retainers and keeping good tongue posture your on your way to shifting your bone back out instead of inward and down like traditional orthodontics promotes, you may be looking at a good 2 -10 years depending how much damage was made within how long you were in treatment for.

Yes the teeth on the upper palate influence the teeth on the mandible. I also have an overbitw and in 8 months my teeth have vastly improved. I still have some work to do but i have made progress
@@KedousY even i have an overbite and i am mewing from 3-4 months and i got my lower teeth inwards and my upper jaw is at the same place that is making my overbite looking more bad? Is it normal or am i doing something wrong?
@@daniyal6894 you are probably forcong your lower jaw back as your mewing which isn't good.
@@KedousY so i should keep both my upper and lower teeths together and then where i have to put the force? Like just let the teeth rest on one other and try exerting pressure on my back of the tounge... That will work fine?
@@daniyal6894 yea just exert pressure on the palate with your tongue. Dont push on your teeth.
If I get braces without extraction teeth, will this ruin my face / jawline? I have 30 teeth, 26 y o, I think I'll need braces for my overbite.
same
@@dmbass- I think only if you have teeth extraction it will affect your face / jawline, my teeth are normal, not crooked, but I have a slight overbite as many people do.
I'll see what my orthodontist says.
@@edwardPCH48 i don’t think braces can fix overbite cuz i’ve had braces and now it looks more protruding. my orthodontist said me to extract 4 premolars and now i’m in dilemma in taking it out. maybe you’ll also get the same suggestion.
@@dmbass- damn, hell no bro, don't take out ur good teeth just cause u have an overbite, can't believe they still do this, they don't care about ur face, just to take ur money
I've seen a lot of ppl complaining about this

What if there is no space for wisdom teeth?
Thanos V it’s over
then get it removed. Removing teeth dont actually damage the jaw bone, only poor posture or retraction devices damage the face

Hi! I have been mewing, and I think I have been doing it incorrectly because I am experiencing problems. My incisors don't rest in my lower teeth like they used to, it feels unnatural and very uncomfortable. I think my swallowing is now different too. My question is can we actually undo the mewing so I won't encounter these problems anymore, If yes, how? If we can't undo the mewing, how do I overcome this? I really made a terrible mistake, If had known that this will be the result then I would not have started mewing.
Could you please state what was your mistake with mewing?
@@Luna-fu7ix hey sorry for the late reply, i am doing an inbox housekeeping in my gmail, I happen to have found your reply hehe.
Forgot about this though, mmmm as much as I can remember, I ignorantly had done some hard mewing once, I don't even know if it is even called mewing though LOL. While I was doing some push ups, I stick a thick spoon inside my mouth, after a short while I noticed a strange-feel with my jaw - stupid me LMAO. Plus, my subconscious tongue had made some various kinds of positions which I think those were improper tongue position too. I suffered it a lot for like 2-3 days to the point that I regretted I started mewing.
So, i did some research about the signs of improper mewing, and indeed those signs manifested, there were dark circles, and pain in my jaw.
Good thing the "how to overcome them" is included in the article/blog too. Praisr God, I was able to overcome it, I am a lot better now.
@@rhozzercareras7406I did not overcome it and now I have an open bite and tongue thrust after really having a perfect bite and tongue posture for many years before😔
I had orthodontic treatment for 16 months at age 16 years 10 months, I can't say my face was damaged but I can say it has at least changed slightly, at aged 18 years 9 months is there much I can do to reverse this change with good posture etc.?
Hugh Kendall Maybe you'd have to get Jaw Surgery
Hugh Kendall expand extraction spaces, thats what i try to do
@@JuanLopez-zo8os haha yes very very sad
@@Macmittens411 No one in their right minds would think that
If the face got damaged would it get back to it's shape someday
Depends how much effort braces did to push the maxilla back and down along where there elastics, extractions being used? , Along with how narrow it made your palate. Most likely the removal of the retainers and keeping good tongue posture your on your way to shifting your bone back out instead of inward and down like traditional orthodontics promotes, you may be looking at a good 2 -10 years depending how much damage was made within how long you were in treatment for.
Kevin Martin alright thnx
But It doesn't with Orthotropic's treatment. The face forward growth maintains.
Code word is extraction
Mad Lad so if you don’t get any teeth extracted while wearing your braces your face won’t change? Because I have an overbite because of an incident and I’ll be getting braces soon. I am still young
@@mimicatmoon your face will still change but its unlikely it will get worse just dont get extractions. I just got braces and avoid extractions by mewing also the wire they put on my teeth are wider pulling my teeth out making my dental arches wider. But in your case ask if it is a retractive process if they are pulling your upper jaw back then that would be bad. But I think if you mew during braces your lower jaw will move forward instead of your upper jaw retracting. Im also getting bands to fix a over bite.
@@mimicatmoon but dont be afraid to ask if they can focus on your facial harmony and not just the smile
Mad Lad what if you only get braces in your bottom jaw (no extraction)
@@jamesb5705 Wait, orthodontists don't always retract the face?
I thought a functional orthodontist would help it only hurt me
When I got my braces my teeth got straight yes but my jaw got vertically lonher and it looks nasty idk if its part of the process tho so should I get them tf off me or keep em? I also mew I've been mewin like 3-4 months but I don't see any results... I'm so lost I need advise
Haha same, dont know what to do. Im just gonna wait until i get them removed and keep mewing.
you cant have results from mewing if u have braces lmao
you can't do mewing while having braces in dude. mewing pushes the teeth outwards, braces pushes them back in. you're doing nothing.
@@MrVirgin how soft mewing is done?
@@Luna-fu7ix Gently resting tongue on the roof of the mouth. Even dr mike says soft mewing is what should be done. Hard mewing gives faster results but u dont wanna risk it, it can give problems like tmj
What about concussion in the jaw and hamerage
Can a palatal expander damage your face?
It can either make or break your look never know
so, would it actually be better to get braces when you an adult and your face is done changing?
no. the facial bone structure can still move and shift at any age if enough force (or lack of force) is applied for a long period of time, mike mew proved this in a video talking about stroke patients
Is extraction of incisors damages my face?
Yes, any extraction of teeth will influence facial downswung.

My dad have a very wide upwards jaw my mom to very wide big maxilla. My brother have a wide jaw ect. He didn't had braces. I am now 15 boutta be 16 in 4 months and i noticed that my jaw had a downswing my maxilla drowned came down had like smile lines and shit. And i'm mad that this shit happend but is there anything i can do to get that upwards growth again. Is there anything i can do besides surgery or shit im still growing and puberty im a late one so i have luck with that. anyone can help me??
The saving grace is that you are a teenager. you have 9 years of mewing to do and your face will look amazing by 25. i wish i knew about mewing at 14, but i only started at 20/21 and im 28 now and have seen great results even with dropping it for a year here and there and even with two wisdom teeth extractions. just keep mewing as perfectly as you can. (not too hard or overdueing it, just focus on perfect mewing posture) facial issues are only a problem for adults where the growing has stopped. as long as you are still a teenager you can reverse all your problems with just mewing
my jaw is broad imma have my braces off and fix only my overbite with a orthotropic i have one in my city my maxilla is good my jaw is wide it's wider than my tongue almost i can't touch my teeth at the sides with my tongue @@Thleta

I have to ask. John you know all this stuff but how come you let your own face elongate and you have crooked teeth in your lower jaw. With much respect sir. You have not aged gracefully.
Robert, interesting point, however he is a great deal better than he was at 50. It all depends where you have come from. He was busy driving his bulldozer this weekend and at 89.5 years old, he's still got what it takes, Mike
You mean professor Mew was worse off.How thou? Please do an episode with professor Mew showing us his aging pattern with pictures. It's something I'm sure a lot of other subscribers would appreciate sir. Why don't you just do a scientific paper on the cause of malocclusion and publish it in a medical journal as you said you want to raise awareness sir.
