I'm in a very similar situation, 26 yrs old, got fixed braces on 3 months ago - best decision ever. I have no experience with invisalign/clear aligners, but i highly recommend fixed braces especially if - as you mention - you think they might do a better job. As far as your concerns for pain; it isn't painful, atleast not in my experience. Of course everyones pain/discomfort tolerance varies. Yes, you will be sore. Yes, it will feel like your whole mouth is itching. Yes, it will be annoying/hurt your inner cheek and lip area to a point you might think fuck this. Yes, you will again be sore after every check up, but it lasts two-three days and its back to normal. But push through that first week or two and you will be glad you didn't use any wax or anything on the brackets. Its a matter of getting used to it. Of course, any severe discomfort or pain that lasts for more than a week or two, i'll say go back to your dentist and see if something can be fixed. I was scared at first because all i felt i heard was how painful it is. It really isn't. Don't let that stop you getting the smile you want :) you got this

I got braces at 36 to fix a small gap between my front teeth and its the worst mistake of my life. Ive been in them for 4 years now, they have completely ruined my face, my jaw is crooked, I can't breath well, my neck/jaw hurts constantly, my tongue doesn't fit in my mouth, I cant eat or speak correctly, I have root angulation issues and I bite chunks out of my tongue all the time. My orthodontist tried to do a class III camouflage on an adult and it has been an absolute failure. I had no idea of the risks and complications involved. My bottom front teeth are slanted so far inward they sit halfway under my tongue. I cant find anyone to help me, Im miserable and desperate. Braces have ruined my life.
i feel so sorry for U u do not deserve . Same is happening with me too and it sucks FOR REAL i understand u so much . NEVER. EVER . TRUST. THESE. ORTHODONTICS . all they want to do is fix ur bite SOMEHOW (they don't gaf about anything else they will extract teeth shave teeth do what not) JUST TO FIX UR BITE . that's it and all of them are liars. Nobody cares about ur facial aesthetic here they focus on closing all ur teeth gap. But there is way to fix it fortunately . Now idk if mewing can work for U since ur so old but u can try . If it does that's great continue doing so . If u hAd extractions it can be VERY VERY hard to reverse all of it . But u can get the wide palet thing. It widens ur mouth and so ur jaw .. It opens up missing tooth gapz between ur teeth and the orthodontist usually put other tooth in the gaps (which is the RIGHT treatment because u need to have a wide mouth and all ur teeth ) and maybe a jaw surgery. i hope this helps u and im praying 🙏 for everything works out for U . U should do the same . Do not get braces .
and i got my class 3 elastics too. Should I wear them? Probably not . But i do not know how to tell my orthodontist that I want to cancel the treatment . But that's the only correct thing to do.

I can relate. I got aligners to try straightening my teeth and it's been a disaster. They kept squashing the teeth, making my face and smile weird. I eventually had to get braces. The very thing I was trying to avoid in the first place!
It’s never too late, I wanted to have braces at 17 when I had myself aware of my crossbite, everyone use to say no you don’t need braces but if it is what you wish for you can get it 😅 thankfully I got them but at the age of 21 and I think I will never regret getting them thankfully! I got my upper braces removed a year and half ago and within 2 weeks my wisdom pushed my teeth forward I got em removed and started believing it wasn’t actually wisdoms but my retainers were not my perfect impressions. Anyhoo I’m still on braces it’s been 3 years and 5 months, dentist asked me to get them off and I told them to get me on upper braces aswell its been a year since I’m requesting, Thankfully they understand now and now I’ll get my upper braces any week now 🙏🏼 I’m on spacers rn
I regret my braces too. If you had them for a short period of time just take them off and don’t wear a retainer so your teeth can shift back to what they used to be. My braces treatment ruined my face. I am 1 year and two months into the treatment and I am looking forward to talk to my orthodontist and ask if this is reversible. If it is not reversible with braces I will simply discontinue the treatment, not wear retainers and hope that my teeth will shift completely back to what they used to be
Dont take out the premolars... what the orthodontist doesnt tell is that extractions with braces with make your mouth smaller and makes your face squished.

hi doc, i have bimaxillary protrusion and i really really want it gone, i want a flat profile with lips aligned to chin (or even slightly further back if its unavoidable) 22 male had nonextraction braces 2 years ago and now my teeth are flared, and now my lips and the area around it is puffed and protruded i know pictures are important in making accurate statements, but i just wanna know your advice in general to fix this. my facial structure is not forward grown (which is what caused the crowding and protrusion in the first place) but at the same time not really recessed, IMO i have acceptable maxilla and mandible growth, just not optimal the most effective treatment for this is premolar extractions from what i read online my concerns are: -will it affect face width? im at around 12-12.5 cm mandible width which is average, im a male and prefer wider faces -will it bring back the position of mandible? ive read somewhere online that the mandible goes further back after extractions but dunno how accurate that is -make palate more narrow? TLDR: bimax protrusive male that wants a better profile (flatter profile, smaller lips, more chin showing)
Hello Dr. Nate I have come to notice that after I got my braces removed my smile is now uneven, I was wondering if there is any treatment available through which I can get it fixed.
I'm 46 and have a terrible overbite, all my six upper front teeth are protruding forcing my lips to remain open. I've been on braces and power chains for two years and I've never missed an appointment. The frustrating thing is I don't notice any improvement at all. Is the orthodontist doing it right?? 😳!!
Did he extract? He would likely be aligning your teeth first to see if you are happy. With orthos nowadays getting soo much brunt for extraction, they play really carefully and don't talk about extractions until you mention it yourself. If you had told him to go ahead with extractions, I bet you would have seen changes within the first 6 months. A 30 year old, a 23 year old and a 46 year old are the same in this context.
Hey Dr. Nate I’m getting braces soon but the dentist recommended I extract my wisdom teeth top and bottom-The bottom one was impacted-which I have already done. I have been seeing a lot of articles that say extracting your teeth and having braces on after will cause the patient to have a double chin in the long run. I wanna know if in my case I’d fall into that category of double chin.
Just got braces at 24, started treatment but I’ll be getting teeth removed because of my crowding. Was sad to get rid of healthy teeth but if it looks better than we good
I have a question please if my wifi she removes her teeth and the teeth are a little bit forward they move and push them back? Is it not going to affect the tongue
I have class 3, overjet, and profusion but at 37 years old nothing can be about it. I was told at 12 years old by my dentist to get it fixed but my dad said no because I also needed a back brace for scoliosis so he chose to do back braces instead. Even at 18 years old, I was told it was too late to fix my underbite because they can't expand my jaw. I would require surgery.

I was told the same thing as a teen. I'm 50 now and in braces bc orthodontics have changed a lot. Book a consultation with an orthodontist. You might be surprised!
They changed my face 😢 my lips more flat. 10 months brackets. Less sharp chin-neck angle Higher cheekbones More empty eyes, different charism I felt like I lost my round sweet face. Smile looks bit weird. I am still being called beautiful but I see neg effect. In 3rd month of braces I already saw lines appear beside my mouth. I had braces at age 40. The lines came Right after brackets. Almost instantly.
@Random-si5fg Well let's hope so lol In my case it looks less attractive but I also know that others see us differently than we see ourselves. We tend to be more critical for ourselves. Let's say a slimmer face also means lines next to my mouth. More volume means less lines
Omg! I had 2 years braces and removed now, no extrsction done and I also notice almost instantly lines beside my month and made me look older. I thought it was because of my age. But reading those comments I am thinking it was braces. I also had sweet round face before and now I have lines and my face look like is dropping😢

Also I have a small nose but since the brackets it looks a bit more prominent and bc my mouth area went bavkward, my forehead seems more forward and eyes deeper. I would pay 10.000 to have it undone. I became more insecure abt my face. On top of it after covid vaccines I got swelling under my jawline so that makes it look even more dropped and less sharp jawline but that issue comes and goes. For some reason the orthodontist made a lot more changes to the entire shape of my teeth line and now I have devastating results on my face. My face looks completely different, it is longer and slimmer, my jaw and my mouth look crooked. Is that reversible somehow? If I take off the braces and simply not wear retainers are my teeth going to shift completely back to their original positions or they will shift back only partially?

My dentist has advised me for extraction of premolars... I'm worried about it because I've heard that it will completely change your face ... Doed it ??
Teeth gives support to your muscles present on face, after premolar extraction that support of premolars goes out. But by using braces the gap gets filled. But the face shape definitely changes while gap filling. You can observe those changes. The face mostly becomes flat after premolar removal. If you love your face and don't have some serious issues with teeth i would suggest don't go for extractions or braces.

Don't let that stop you getting the smile you want :) you got this
@@JumpingHorses35 Thanks. Yeah i think the fixed braces is the way to go. Planning to get them in a month or two. And yeah i've decided whatever pain i might get is worth it in the long run.
I had fixed braces for 2.5 years I am 31. I think people hype the pain up. The only thing I miss eating is corn on cob. Everything else I pretty much eat lol
I had 4 extracted 2 on top n bottom n now ima. Male Model
How your face looks now ?? Please reply
its not just a possibility, it 100 percent can. if you have a shitty orthodontist, you will for sure lose the chance of getting a jawline and a great smile, which you ,ight have straight teeth but your face will look weird smiling
That happened to me 😢 my smile looks strange.
I have to take ofcourse from the side bc from the front it's weird
The bottom jaw grows even while the ramus and body is fused, at the condylar cartilage. It eventually ossifies though when people stop growing.
Hi Dr! You mention tilting of the teeth. Could you please explain how the teeth can be tilted? Does positioning play a part? Thanks! 😊
@@0_wzei I would definitely do anything your orthodontist tells you to do. Sometimes, they just don't do enough. Once treatment has started, its hard to go back. Try to find another orthodontist to give you a second opinion.
@@0_wzei Thank you so much! I agree, adults should not get braces. Too many risks and not enough reward
@@lchicks86 exactly !! Cos the treatment has started i don't know how to tell the orthodontist that I want to stop . And moreover if i did stop it's like the change done cannot be reversed either unless I spend LOTS of money (which I don't have ) and go for other treatments ....I will get this done with and just start mewing . I recommend the same for U ☝️
I don't like my face after aligners treatment it looks longer my face was round before.
Do you extract your tooth
Probably
Same :((
Same happened to me with metal braces and the results are devastating. My face is ruined. I hope that this is reversible.
Anyhoo I’m still on braces it’s been 3 years and 5 months, dentist asked me to get them off and I told them to get me on upper braces aswell its been a year since I’m requesting, Thankfully they understand now and now I’ll get my upper braces any week now 🙏🏼 I’m on spacers rn
please do talk about teeth removal and retrusion...
Very good information I too have a open bite can you speak more on that topic as well I do have braces for the second time.
Have braces now & regret it. Painful & not what I expected. 😢
Well shit
😂@@Jessicurrrrrrrrr
That depends on the person, I had protrusion and class 3 malocclusion so it actually helped my entire profile look better by removing the premolars
Should of used the palate expander.....cause removing the premolars and getting will make your mouth smaller.
@@MMA-rc3mv I’m already finished with my ortho lol my mouth isn’t smaller to an extreme extent, it feels normal. but that’s just because of my personal body. But yeah I agree with you i was just saying that may not be the case for every single person
hi doc, i have bimaxillary protrusion and i really really want it gone, i want a flat profile with lips aligned to chin (or even slightly further back if its unavoidable)
22 male
had nonextraction braces 2 years ago and now my teeth are flared, and now my lips and the area around it is puffed and protruded
i know pictures are important in making accurate statements, but i just wanna know your advice in general to fix this.
my facial structure is not forward grown (which is what caused the crowding and protrusion in the first place) but at the same time not really recessed, IMO i have acceptable maxilla and mandible growth, just not optimal
the most effective treatment for this is premolar extractions from what i read online
my concerns are:
-will it affect face width? im at around 12-12.5 cm mandible width which is average, im a male and prefer wider faces
-will it bring back the position of mandible? ive read somewhere online that the mandible goes further back after extractions but dunno how accurate that is
-make palate more narrow?
TLDR: bimax protrusive male that wants a better profile (flatter profile, smaller lips, more chin showing)
Hello Dr. Nate
I have come to notice that after I got my braces removed my smile is now uneven, I was wondering if there is any treatment available through which I can get it fixed.
Did you get a retainer?
Yes, after two years of wearing it nonstop, I now only wear it at night. @@robinpatrick7862
Retainers after removing braces are essential so your teeth don’t move back to the place they were before braces.
hey you found out any solution for that?
@@robinpatrick7862 Yes, I’ve been wearing it for three years.
I just got braces and my orthodontist said I will need an intreproximal done on my bottom teeth to give my teeth some space to move.
I seem to have ' Flared Teeth ' after one and half year and my Doctor it is best possible situation in my case . Don't know, what to do ?
It took two years for my teeth to be completely straightened.
@@robinpatrick7862do your lips stay closed now?
Im a 21yo, could i use an expander for my upper jaw and will it work?
I dont want to do a jaw surgery 🥲 is there any other solution ?
Hey Dr. Nate
I’m getting braces soon but the dentist recommended I extract my wisdom teeth top and bottom-The bottom one was impacted-which I have already done.
I have been seeing a lot of articles that say extracting your teeth and having braces on after will cause the patient to have a double chin in the long run. I wanna know if in my case I’d fall into that category of double chin.
I had all of my wisdom teeth extracted and I never got a double chin. In fact my teeth look great. It’s incredible what the dentist did for my teeth.
i got my two upper teeth extracted, does it change your face shape? im act 7mm overjet@@robinpatrick7862
I had a crossbite. I had that little torture box in my mouth. It gave me the worst headaches everytime I turned it. 😅
I was silly looking before treatment. I am silly looking after treatment.
Just got braces at 24, started treatment but I’ll be getting teeth removed because of my crowding. Was sad to get rid of healthy teeth but if it looks better than we good
From what people are saying here, tooth extraction might not be a good idea as it could flatten your cheeks.
Rather consider Expanders.
Where are you located please?🙏
I have a question please if my wifi she removes her teeth and the teeth are a little bit forward they move and push them back? Is it not going to affect the tongue
Am 32 n i cant wait to get my braces in my own mouth
Kabhi kabhi lagta hai braces ki treatment bahar hi kr lete to acha rehta 😅
I have class 3, overjet, and profusion but at 37 years old nothing can be about it. I was told at 12 years old by my dentist to get it fixed but my dad said no because I also needed a back brace for scoliosis so he chose to do back braces instead. Even at 18 years old, I was told it was too late to fix my underbite because they can't expand my jaw. I would require surgery.
Why cant you get braces
@@NourTheDreamerbraces are expensive. Especially if your kid has other medical issues that are more serious, I completely understand why a parent would prioritize that.
I was told the same thing as a teen. I'm 50 now and in braces bc orthodontics have changed a lot. Book a consultation with an orthodontist. You might be surprised!
They changed my face 😢 my lips more flat. 10 months brackets.
Less sharp chin-neck angle
Higher cheekbones
More empty eyes, different charism
I felt like I lost my round sweet face.
Smile looks bit weird.
I am still being called beautiful but I see neg effect.
In 3rd month of braces I already saw lines appear beside my mouth.
I had braces at age 40. The lines came Right after brackets. Almost instantly.
i thought higher cheekbone and a longer face were conventionally more attractive than a round ace
@Random-si5fg Well let's hope so lol
In my case it looks less attractive but I also know that others see us differently than we see ourselves.
@@Sunshine55550 It sucks and it's confronting when you read other's comments confirming reality.
I always looked 1p years younger l. It's definately not ageing bc that gpes gradually.
I really want to deny it but I see another face in the mirror since then. I got used to it and I feel pretty on some days but sometimes I worry about how I will grow old. I still have almost no wrinkles but these lines and chin went bavkward plus looks shorter.
Tests showed no disease.
My wisdom teeth were extracted. I regret it bc my 2 front teeth were bit forward and my botton teeth a little crooked but nobody saw it bc when women smile you generally don't see their bottom teeth different from men.
Anyway Let's just believe it will go back to before our faces lol to survive mentally.
I'm considering to remove my fixed retainer to make my mouth feel and look more relaxed bc the mouth area looks tight. I also feel like my face became less feminine and cute:(
@@peaceofmindofpeace1650 Thank you for reply, its good to know that I am not going crazy. When I read your comment I see myself in it. I was always kind of pretty, chubby cheeks, nice smile and my teeth no one even noticed they were crooked on the bottom and a bit more on the top but no really. Everyone was surprised about my decision about the braces. After 1,5 half I started wearing elastics, as the doctor wanted to wider my jaw so all of them can fit. Never had extraction done luckily. I have al my teeth and small jaw and wide smile. Well result is, I have straight teeth but my nice smile is gone now. I was looking at the mirror and I see myself but I can see something is different about my face and I don't know exactly what. I have been asking people, do they see what I see, but they just say oh well is your age. I always looked much younger and always had nice smile even with no prefect straight teeth. Now my teeth are straight but my nice smile is kind of gone. Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy in my head about it as I try to deny it. But then I thought it must be the effect of the braces. I wish my doctor told me about it, that my face can change with elastics and drop. I wish a Dr Nathan could just confirm is that correct that face can change after elastics. I didn't have extraction done. Its good to know I am not alone and I am not going weird.
You never mention "Open-bite" in your videos. A lot of people are dealing with Openbite including me, just started my treatment few months ago, had 4 teeth extraction.
Thank you for the reminder. Open bite is a big one.
I’m also someone who needed 2 bottom teeth extractions for an open bite braces treatment. I’m on day 5 and wondering how long will it take for the extraction hope to close and how long will it take for the space between my teeth to come together
@runforrestrun2428 Had 4 teeth extractions as treatment for open-bite, which is still ongoing. My open-bite has close, now the 4 extraction sites are gradually closing up....still a long journey. I will do a video about my braces and open-bite in a couple of months after my exams. Very few videos out there about open-bite Orthodontist treatment, 4 teeth extractions and the healing process.
Edit: what food you can eat after 4 teeth extraction, being able chew food, mouth flossing, rinse e.t.c
my orthodontist told me I needed to have 4 teeth removed because my teeth are crowned I also don’t think my tooth are that crowded, but I'm really worried about my face and my lips changing. I don’t know what to do. Do you have advice?

I got moderate deep bite 😂 n my face looks longer when they put the correction thing on 😂
Same with me. My face got ruined though. I want my old face back
I am 41 years old and I got braces one year ago due to minor crowding at the upper front teeth.
What treatments did you go through. I currently have a bite plate and my face looks longer.
@@dannyarana9082 I only had metal braces and they used the wire to expand my teeth and make space for alignment because I was against extractions. They didn’t use any expanders or other tools. Just the braces.

I’m an adult that’s almost done with braces next appt and I’m sad because my smile didnt broaden as much as I would’ve hoped for and if I wanted a broader smile I would’ve needed jaw surgery + palate expander I guess? Oh well 😢
If you want to expand your smile you can ask your dentist about expanding the maxillary arch and how to do with your buccal corridors.
How to fix the recessive jaw line after braces.I want a sharper jawline 😢
will it change your face for the better? i need people's opinion who has had braces or even Invisalign because im gonna get some this year and my teeth crooked and supposedly your teeth aren't suppose to be touching your teeth all the time you know clenching anyway i want my face shape better
had 4 extractions and braces when i was 16, im 18 now
do not get extractions no matter what its fucked me up properly trust me on this
it makes your face narrower , the ends of your jaw get really narrow and youre gonna regret it sm
Mine changed for the worse without even getting extractions so do not get braces! Sometimes crooked teeth are better than straight teeth and ruined face. I am devastated.
Incredible video Dr. Nathan! Learned that Braces leads to a better-looking and more balanced face. Checked the benefits from Kriss ai as well further enhancing my understanding significantly.
I am after treatment and no person said my teeth look good. They stick out, more than before. So everyone notices this. No extraction done. I was wearing rubbers on the sides. Noticed my face dropped and I got lines so look older. Is it possible? Or is it my age? I was always looked by the guys and now no one even take notice of me.
No. Braces ruin the face and this is exactly what happened to me. I am 1 year and two months into the treatment. I will talk to my orthodontist to see if this facial change is reversible and if it is not I will just take off the braces, not wear retainer and I will wait for my teeth to shift back to where they used to be.
@@myay8340 I have asked my orthodontist and he said it’s because of my age not because of braces. But then saying that I have noticed the difference during wearing braces already. @@Sunshine55550 I think that the orthodontist is lying to you because he doesn’t want you to be upset with him. I don’t know for how long have you had your braces on but I had mine for one year only. I can’t age so much out of nowhere within a year, right? And I am not blind… I can see the difference in the shape of my face and compare the photos. Orthodontics is a money making business and a real sham. The majority of the orthodontic cases don’t have any medical value but just a cosmetic purpose. I regret the day I got my braces on. I want my old face back.
can missing teeth fix by braces?
Yea
Never clicked so fast
My dentist has advised me for extraction of premolars... I'm worried about it because I've heard that it will completely change your face ... Doed it ??
Teeth gives support to your muscles present on face, after premolar extraction that support of premolars goes out. But by using braces the gap gets filled. But the face shape definitely changes while gap filling. You can observe those changes. The face mostly becomes flat after premolar removal. If you love your face and don't have some serious issues with teeth i would suggest don't go for extractions or braces.
Do not agree to extractions!!!! They will ruin your face
Why does look sunken face after teeth extraction
It happened with me too no idea about whether it will come back to normal after removing braces 😭
Hey how are you feeling now.....some changes after teeth extraction and I'm feeling bad about it and how are you feeling better now ....

You can get a palate expander even after it has fused. But in order for it to work you have to get pins in the roof of your mouth
