What happened to you is a disgrace to the science of dentistry. I retired from dentistry after 3 years of practice because I could not align the archaic style of dentistry with my morals. I knew something was amiss during my training when I found that my dental professors were using the same lectures over decades of teaching. The institutions of dentistry are so resistant to change and seem only concerned with making as much as money as humanly possible at the cost of human health. It really is a shame as the demand from patients is changing and they don't want what conventional dentists are selling. Dr. Mew, please know that you stand on the right side of history.
Sherry I want to study dentistry, if I want to follow spread info about orthothropics what should I do?
Thank you for being brave enough to say that
OH MY GOD. IT IS OVER, ORTHODONTICS, REMOVING TEETH, FORCING EXTERNAL MACHINERY ON THE BODY, CUTTING THE JAW, MUST END. THAT BEFORE AND AFTER IS HEARTBREAKING.
Truly a gift to the world Prof John Mew
This is blowing up trust me you hard work will get some recognition
SlicedBanana 12 what?
John Mew is a hero.
It is criminal what the orthodontist are doing to people and what they did to John.
My Orthodontist ruined my face.
How did he ruin your face? I'm thinking the same about my dentist. I notice adverse changed in my face. Please share your experience.
Manuel Rosales Basically everything that John Mew said in this video is accurate about how Orthodontists can ruin your face.
I had a small jaw so my Orthodontist pulled my upper jaw back to match it, this required extractions. This gave me a longer face with a dorsal hump nose. The gum on one of my teeth recessed while I was still in braces so my smile looks uneven.
The best solution would have been to have Orthotropics as a child, but I didn’t know about that treatment back then, so the next best solution would have been to have jaw surgery to make my lower jaw bigger. I know surgery sounds extreme but it would have been a better solution because Im very unhappy with how my face looks.
@@bellam31 in the same shoes as you were. did you go for the surgery? ps: i am researching my options and everything seems very scary to me
Thank you for telling the truth. You are so knowledgeable and I can't believe the British Dental society would treat you so terrible. Shame on them!! Appreciate your presence on UA-cam.
Very commendable Professor Dew. This is a disgracefully hidden side effect of orthodontics they don't want people to know about. Well done.
I am so glad I found this before deciding on treatment. Thank you so much

Dude, just get braces. You can have straight teeth as that is important as well. You can also mew with braces.
@@AnAdorableWombat no you can't
@@99waterblade well I have braces and my face has gotten better looking and my teeth are straight. Yall can mew all day but keep crooked teeth if you want lmaooooo
Brilliant. And heroic on your part.
i would like to die and get a new life and start mewing LMAO
LOL and chew alot of hard gum
keep this forever in your memory when you are reborn as a baby you know what to do ;)

Same :'( I don't plan to have kids so no living vicariously either. Guess I'll just have to live like this.
Thank you so much for sharing all this Prof. Mew. I also had a bad treatment with orthodontics. When I was a child I had a very narrow palate (I still have it). I started wearing braces at around 9 years old and when I was like 11 two of my premolars were taken out because there were no space for all my teeth. I always hated that because since I was very little my child teeth didn't fall so they were almost all extracted.
Anyway now I know that instead of extracting my premolars, my palatal should have had been expanded and also I should have worked very hard with my tongue posture, swallow, nasal breathing, etc. I know that is not that easy but I think it would have solve lots of problems. Now I do have almost the same face as this girl 🥺 and pain in my shoulders because of my bad posture.
I've been following your content and working very hard with mewing, nasal breathing, lips closed, posture, swallow and more, for many months. I'm 23 and I hope one day I could solve all this.
Thank you so much for all your hard work and videos!!
You can of you keep going.. im 3 times your age and im getting improvements. 👍🏻
I'm crying now. I still have my braces on my lower teeth to correct an underbite but I saw my face grew longer within just two years
David Gaveston mine within 4 months lol
Same here!!!!!
How old?
How old?

Thank you Dr. MEW for putting this out there... Im working hard to key my tongue up teeth together and good posture... keep strong
Although the risk is always present, if you are desperate, self-ligating braces, without ANY tooth extraction, hardly damages the face aesthetics.
Braces messed up my face shape. I looked more attractive before I had them.
How so?
@@hamtzy6303 my lips were more pouty buy my teeth were pushed back too much and they weren't pouty anymore. I put them back on to move them forward a bit more.
u look good
i feel it's good to stay away from xtraction & removement of precious body parts but look for a solution more friendly w/ human's bodies, regardless of the circumstances, specially when improvement is a must🙏
many thanks for sound ethical and honest advice in an industry which clearly does not.
I do noticed this damn I regret getting my treatment. After 4 years of braces. I noticed that my face did changed to really weird long position. Now I decided to stop wearing my retainer. And dump all that. It's been at least 2 days now but I feel the affects come faster than I thought. My face slightly look different.
how old are you , ?
Update?
You may be ignoring that pulling the lower jaw forward is also used in Orthodontics, that's the treatment I received.
Myles Dunne thats my case too, how is your face now?
@@Mo-fd7qd this is my case too. Now I look horrible. I mean it. I used to look beautiful. I had a beautiful face structure but after putting this bloody braces on.. It has literally changed my life. It sucks.
mariya nodo Hey, i’m still in braces treatment I dont exactly look horrible because ive been mewing the whole time, i gotta say my cheekbones did go down but my cheeks hollowed and my jaw is sharp with slight aaaymetry
@@Mo-fd7qd does it work?? Can you explain how mewing works
@@Mo-fd7qd mewing with braces?
I wish my orthodontist would have told me before I got my braces! That should be required.
Did you get extractions Tiffiney?
Angelina Jolie, Whitney Houston, Calista Flockhart are the few women who had the widest pallette making them outstand others in the room!
I wore braces for more than 2 years to correct the overcrowding of lower set. After removing the braces I noticed visible Asymmetry of my face, and while smiling both halves of lips looks different. I regret going to that specific doctor who was least bothered about even correcting the overcrowding properly.
Did you fix it?
I feel sorry for you man but keep your head up king

Does anyone know if this can be reversed? I just got my braces off and am now horrified with my face when I was younger people would always comment on how pretty I was and how I had a great smile... now my moms friends don’t even recognize me and my chin is weak, my nose has a lump my palate is narrow and my two front teeth are HUGE is there anyway I can reverse this before it’s too late? Please HELP!
Start mewing and also no more retainers, but only if you can keep mewing
If your nose has a lump it had a lump before dude there’s no way braces suddenly changed the bone structure in your nose lmao
Killua i beg to differ lol i literally used to model when i was a kid *no nasal hump*, anyways i got a rhinoplasty, (which the doctor said was caused from the top of the mouth turning into into a weird shape and pushed the nasal hump up) started modeling again and got invisalign so i’m good now btw the first comment was 16 yo me and my self conscious self lmao i’m much more confident now i was pretty over dramatic the only thing that was really a problem was my short palate and my nose as a product of it😂 (also braces literally change your bone structure and the palate is the base of the face bc everything rests on it so it can change the face and nose by changing angles so basically my mouth made a rlly weird angle and pushed my nose out weird😳 *learned that from new orthodontist so it’s actual facts*)
Isabella Marino girl hey I’m literally in your boat I noticed a hump on my nose from braces and literally how smooshed in my upper jaw is now I’m 22 and not attractive at all but I took my braces off in hopes to keep and reverse the damage the thing is I have a gap in between my two front teeth but I feel like forward growth is much more important than a gap what should I do? Should I continue with braces treatment or mew??
@@melioras_pheonoraptor8936 my nose hump has lessened after mewing for a little over a month
Great information & thanks for sharing! I wish I would've known this earlier.
So would expanding the dental arch with no extractions lead to a better lower profile
Expanding the Maxilla will let your mandible grow forward

@@Noname-ii6coCan I maybe get in contact with you? Like instagram perhaps, I am also Muslim too, but I’m wondering? Where are you from? And how was your face flatten?
hey doctor
i have a question
i notice on a digram u shared on one of your videos
about the growth of the jaws
whether horizontally or vertically
i noticed on the vertical growth
your body produce some layer of bones on your chin, making it longer, and at the lower back of your lower jaw
it happened to mine and my jawline is not straight
is there a way to get rid of those bones without surgery
So is there any way for me to prevent this bxz my upper teeth were very protruding and my treatment just started toady and i have extractions week later.
i don't know about any other group stand up against prof john mew but i do believe in natural growth. i've been wearing brace the whole time, i agree they do make me less uglier, but that just all about it. i just got to know and practice this method for a few month, it sooner became my resting posture even in my sleep. i can feel my face is changing with every small effort i put into it, i do take myself timelapse picture to suport the theory, peope who used to call me ugly now do the opposite. so i guess there's pretty much something is happening here.
thanh nguyen are you wearing retainers after taking off your braces? as I'm wondering whether retainers will stop change in the face from mewing
ishy yes retainer's can stop any progress from tongue posture
Kraft Punk, where do you base that assumption on?
Update
How does Invisalign change your face shape?
conrad gah jwkje same like braces.
Thanks professor for sharing this. I'm 27 and had been wearing braces for two years and recently got them removed. Now my dentist asked me to wear retainers for at least 5 years. I'm just wondering if wearing retainers also has an effect on the shape of the face?
Retainers will keep your face in the shape it has been pushed into by the braces. It's also logical to conclude that wearing retainers will work against any efforts you make to change your face for the better using oral posture changes. I'm no doctor, but that's how it looks to me.
+Gray I new to this but what do you mean by changing face with "oral posture changes"?
Your jaw bones are affected by the posture of your tongue, teeth and lips. The whole idea of orthotropics is that your jaw bones will change shape over time depending on the forces acting on them, and in faces that are well grown, the tongue, teeth and lips are in an ideal position which is what causes the face to grow so well.
The tongue should be on the roof of the mouth, the lips firmly shut but not strained, and the teeth in very light contact. Having braces or retainers will affect the growth of the face, but not in a good way because they will literally pull the jaws back and down, which is not a good direction for the jaws to grow in. That's what orthotropics claims anyway, but it seems logical enough if you read through their research.
I hope this helps.
+Gray Since braces affect negatively what other alternative does orthotropics suggest for fixing messed up teeth?
Depends on how the teeth are messed up, but from what I can see of it, orthotropics recommends expansion devices to expand the pallate to make room for all of the teeth. If your teeth are crooked, it's because the jaws aren't big enough to fit them all, and once they've been expanded they will naturally sort themselves.
Orthotropics is very big on oral posture affecting the position of the teeth, and mine have moved a small but significant amount since I started working on my tongue position. In theory we don't need any device to fix our teeth and jaw issues, just posture changes and chewing more to strengthen the jaw muscles, but it will take a long time and a lot of consistent effort to change our faces that much with this approach.
What about damon braces?
Based Doctor John.
how can i do to stop mouth breathing at night? i only mouth breath at night due to having my teeth pulled, i only developed a narrow arch after having extractions, i never had overcrowding, but still had extractions because my older sister had extractions
It's a long process of recovery based on how affected your face is, but the basic idea is the longer you can hold the correct posture with your tongue, teeth and lips during the day, and the more natural that becomes, the more chance you will have of your mouth breathing reducing at night. Overtime your face will change and it will become easier and more natural for you to hold the correct posture, and eventually it will become so natural that you'll do it even at rest while sleeping.
Basically just keep up with the posture and over time you'll get good at it. I hope this helps.
andi plus was it the premolars extracted ? And how many teeth was extracted ? Also did u have an overbite before the Braces
You could also try taping you mouth at night.
can i use the orthotropics appliance as a retainer when i get my braces off?, i'm a 16 year old female.
BellicaTV I think yes.
I am not a doctor.
But then I believe doctor do on us trial and error they actually do experiment on us they use us for their researcher.
If your case is not of permanent retainer then you can go with these traditional thing,,,but it’s always your own personal choice and gut instinct
I got braces around the age of 16 along with four teeth extracted, two from the bottom and two from the top. Apparently i had a crowded overbite. Im now 20 and have noticed I have a recessed lower jaw which looks fine from the front but rather unaesthetic from the side, which in comparison to my father is night and day (his jaw is very prominent). Im very disappointed with my orthodontic clinic. Has anyone had this experience and took action? I would love to know what to do.

So how do these kids got treated to get their jaw forward?
their upper teeth got moved forward, so the jaw can extend i believe. Either that or a surgery.

How much does it take🙂?
Did he do any mewing? Or have an appliance? He kinda has a long face.
lool he is very old, is very common to look that way when you are 70....
@@noraridell1470 I don't think so, not if he had a decent shape before
i don't think he has the energy to do mewing anymore, but look at his son, clearly it works on him
I didn't mean any disrespect. I also have a kinda long thin face.
How do you explain unilateral crossbite with your theory of low tongue posture?
And how do you explain this case: ua-cam.com/video/2pb2QLQWQ-k/v-deo.html
His upper jaw is small but his face does not look too long(downswing).
I don’t believe this to be entirely true, especially because most orthodontists have 3D technology that helps guide the process. At least for me I just had a minor overbite with some overcrowding and fixed it with Invisalign.
U must believe
@@prestige_man1531 Believe what? there is no real proof behind what these guys are saying. On top of that different people have different circumstances they are speaking based on what they’ve come across.
Somebody plz change your teeth with me
Orthodontics definitely improves the face. Maybe not as ideal as being born with perfect teeth. Case 1, the kid with buck teeth, after braces there is marked improvement. Or the bulldog (underbite). Thinking that the position of the tongue dictates everything in life and what food we are eating is hypothetical at best. We find ourselves with the chicken or egg principle. I say genetics is the predominant determinant of everything, but that doesn't mean environmental stresses don't have their part. Your camp thinks it is entirely environmental. IF that is the case then the mouth is the exception to almost everything geneticists have learned and found to be factual over the past 50 years.
Why haven't you fixed your face?
This is pseudoscience
