Pretty interesting contrast between yours and MrMattyPlays' review, where he kinda stated that there were tons of conversation and dialogue that he was experiencing. Maybe you were doing too much exploration proportionally to interacting with NPC's and quests?
This game looks solid. Given when it is coming out I am sure I'll enjoy playing it when it is on sale after I finish KCD2, Monster Hunter, Hades 2 full release and probably Slay the Spire beta... and GTA6 if those games keep me busy until it releases. So yeah... looks like a great buy for like $10-$20 in 2026 or 2027, haha.
When you come to terms with the fact that it isn't Skyrim, that it is, it's own game. The graphics style grows on you. Performance issues is a given, considering it's months away from release, and performance tends to be the last thing tackled.
My only concern as you said is the simplification of the combat. They can create some directional combos for melees and some "posture" styles for variety of attacks and animations. Idk if they have time for this but would be VERY nice for the game. Thats could make the difference between the final game score
Problem with that would be the input speed. How fast do you need to input that set of buttons to do said attack? Oni had a bit of this problem with some moves (most notably the throws) being inconsistent if I would do a throw or not
I don't know if it's just me but those npcs you talked to looked stiff and lifeless, almost reminds me of Bethesda games. It's better that they don't do zoom in cutscenes if they're just gonna look like shit.
Funny thing about these long hyped games, it's easy to think we gamers just hate most games and are incredibly picky, but in reality, we just want quality games. If a game is not what I thought it was, but is a great game nonetheless, great. Sadly the budgets of these games have gotten so big, publishers think they need to put them out before they're ready just to help recoup their investment.
Just from the gameplay, it looks interesting. I haven’t noticed too many darker areas. The one thing I’ve been a little tired of lately is overly cartoony and colorful games. But other than that, this game looks pretty cool.
Nah, it's pretty much normal. Could be a host of legit reasons why some areas are embargoed. From marketing to some areas still requiring some work. Least of my worries Obs make amazing games. The performance is an issue though - they have never been known for great performance but hopefully they can do some tweaking till release. And unlike they who shall not be mentioned Obs have been pretty open about this game.
The only subjective gripe I have is that the models do look plastic. Also, perhaps the lighting can add more darkness as things look too bright at times. But then I think this can be a nice substitute to Skyrim or just fill in the gap till we wait for ES6. I can also see some great modding potential here!
Thank you for this nice little preview and your thoughts. I am slightly hopefully optimistic now about the game. One question regarding ranged weapons. Are there more options than pistols and bows? Like crossbows or rifles?
I was worried about the skill trees. The fact that they have AI companions but Rangers don't get pets like in PoE feels pretty bad. The fact that they left out the MAJORITY of classes (Chanter, Monk, Barbarian, Cipher, Druid, Priest, Paladin) is awful, and the spell list for Wizards looks pretty bad too. What was that, two or three fire spells? I'm looking forward to this game, but I was hoping to play as a two-handed barbarian or a fire-themed wizard, but it genuinely doesn't look like I can play something as simple as that. Very disappointed.
I don't know for you guys but I've played Stalker 2 for 3 hours yesterday and didn't think it was pretty at all. I've jump down maybe 15 ft and died on the spot like a dog on easy setting. This game look visually a bit like that. Same stiffness ! Not impresses but if the gameplay fun I'm in
this is the one game I am excited about, bethesda at this point does not exist, from software won't fart another game for a while now and bioware..well..they not bioware no more, they are something different. In my adult life I have rearly thought about this, but..Do games suck? As an art form, as something that I thought was equal to film, to music..Games seem to suck. If obsidian do not save us, I don't know who will
@@theluanvuong5886 I don't think Josh Sawyer is on the Avowed project, though, so it doesn't have all the same director influence. Hopefully it'll still be good, though.
Thanks for the coverage! I don't particularly understand your concerns about performance: you're saying it ran well for your pretty high end PC (and I'm assuming that was on ultra video settings), so lower end PCs will have their video settings lower and that should keep their performance probably on par with yours? Sorry if I missed something, but I'm just not seeing a reason to be concerned about performance, especially since there will still be some optimization work done between now and release.
That art style is a hard sell for me. Also having so many chests to find and open really does kill any immersion when away from the uncanny valley NPCs
It looks insanely dated. I mean pre 2015 level of graphics and animations. This game when it was first shown as a concept trailer was very misleading. It looked cool as hell. This is not even remotely similar to that trailer. It's the typical clownish style look to the game.
I personally just wish they would tone the UI down a bit... I can live with a cartoony high fantasy look, but all the highlighted UI elements together with the damage numbers and effects is too much for me
I think I’m just stuck on the original mood/visual atmosphere of the first time we saw anything about the game. It was dark and forbidding, and now it looks so lively and colorful. Was there any sign of that darkness or feel? And yes I know the original was just a movie style clip. But the atmosphere feel should be about the same.
Man, this game just looks so disappointing. It's like even more streamlined Bethesda. I wish they'd have put the resources into making a PoE3 in the style of BG3 instead.

Hmmm. There's a lot I like and dislike about what you've said. I'm still interested in this title, but with it launching so close to mh wilds, this one will have to live on my wishlist for awhile.
The art style is spot on IMO. It looks like a Pillars game, which it is. Also with such a short amount of time played it seems that you think you know far more about certain aspects of the game than someone would playing that amount of time. Judging combat at level 5 is like judging Diablo 4's gameplay at lvl 15. It makes no sense.

@@ransom-- Most likely gonna be playing Assassin's Creed and KCD2 and get this game on a discount or something
@@pixelcount350you're going to play assassins creed!?!? Bahahahahahahaha
Youre gonna be 70 before gta6 comes out
When you come to terms with the fact that it isn't Skyrim, that it is, it's own game.
No review code for you :P
But i like your take on it, it felt honest at least.
Glad you are positive about it. I prefer Nature Godlike so I'm fine with no race choice.
Also like the Druid. Hopefully can make a fun spellsword.
Lot of red flags with a bunch of specific sections being embargoed. To me, that says that maybe they know these sections will be controversial.
They didn't want us seeing "body type 1, body type 2" pick your pronouns "They, them, this, that "
Nah, it's pretty much normal.
To me, this seems like a game I'd pick up on a sale if it's 15 quid or less. Definitely not a day 1 purchase.
Thank you for this nice little preview and your thoughts. I am slightly hopefully optimistic now about the game. One question regarding ranged weapons. Are there more options than pistols and bows? Like crossbows or rifles?
looks great and i am waiting to see if it expands more in terms of story in later parts in the game or not, if yes than i will buy it
Where's the fantasy. It needs more real time world interactions. It looks 2009 ish.
It looks the same as skyrim . The grapihcs the move sets.. I dont know , it looks very old .
I don't know for you guys but I've played Stalker 2 for 3 hours yesterday and didn't think it was pretty at all. I've jump down maybe 15 ft and died on the spot like a dog on easy setting. This game look visually a bit like that. Same stiffness ! Not impresses but if the gameplay fun I'm in
I dont know, something just feels "off" with this game for at least for me, also can we have wizards not waving wands like harry potter?
I love being a wizard. I will likely purchase this even though i have game pass. I just love obsidian and pillars.
this is the one game I am excited about, bethesda at this point does not exist, from software won't fart another game for a while now and bioware..well..they not bioware no more, they are something different. In my adult life I have rearly thought about this, but..Do games suck? As an art form, as something that I thought was equal to film, to music..Games seem to suck. If obsidian do not save us, I don't know who will
Looks great. Really wish they had not pushed it back. Would love to have played it over the holidays.
Looks like farcry with spells.
The map you speak of reminds me of kingdom of amuler or whatever but i loved that game. This whole game reminds me of that to a degree
Does the game that we shall not mention start with a Dragon and ends with a veilguard? xD
Great approach Cas!
I do have some faith in Obsidian as a developer, so im staying optimistic. They usually craft some pretty great RPGs.
Yeah but their last couple of games haven't been that great.
I would've paid so, so much for Tyranny 2😢
@@pixelcount350 what do you mean "haven's been that great"? Pentiment, PoE 1&2 are fk masterpieces
@@theluanvuong5886 I don't think Josh Sawyer is on the Avowed project, though, so it doesn't have all the same director influence. Hopefully it'll still be good, though.
@@joshuadunham3018Carrie Patel directed murder on eridanos, no need to worry.
You are spot on, looks like Dying Light styled Skyrim and all for that.
I want to play before o have full opinion. But its seems a lil underwhelming
Even tho I want to give it a chance, I'm not paying 60, 70 dollars
Bro, wingardium leviosa gameplay is peak!!
Combat looking amazing!
That art style is a hard sell for me. Also having so many chests to find and open really does kill any immersion when away from the uncanny valley NPCs
Don't know what you expect from the UE5 title? UE5 at this point is always laggy with low optimization quality.
It looks insanely dated. I mean pre 2015 level of graphics and animations.
This game when it was first shown as a concept trailer was very misleading. It looked cool as hell. This is not even remotely similar to that trailer. It's the typical clownish style look to the game.
Definitely gonna keep my eye on this. I'm really hoping Obsidian can slam dunk this one.
umm Oblivion Remake?
I personally just wish they would tone the UI down a bit... I can live with a cartoony high fantasy look, but all the highlighted UI elements together with the damage numbers and effects is too much for me
I watched Mortismal and Mr Matty's videos and you absolutely see your character if you're playing in 3rd person.
great review!
Wtf happened to obsidian man
I was planning to do a spell blade build anyway, so this is right up my alley. I really hope the game is good.
I can't justify the price. Its a wait for a sale for me
Looks fun, hope the next few months they clean up the performance. I plan to play on Xbox so hope it'll be a steady 30 fps.
UE5 strikes again
Way more hyped for this game now than I was before. Personally, I like the art style
the way their hair is swooshed up when u skip dialogue... hilarious and technically immature
This game looks like a far fall from its OG trailer lol
I think I’m just stuck on the original mood/visual atmosphere of the first time we saw anything about the game. It was dark and forbidding, and now it looks so lively and colorful. Was there any sign of that darkness or feel? And yes I know the original was just a movie style clip. But the atmosphere feel should be about the same.
The original reveal CGI trailer likely had little to no input from obsidian themselves
I'm so hyped for this; I'll take more Eora.
Man, this game just looks so disappointing. It's like even more streamlined Bethesda. I wish they'd have put the resources into making a PoE3 in the style of BG3 instead.
It makes sense that there is a focus on magic combat since the reveal was mostly about magic.
Thanks for the Video ,
do you have anything to say about loading screens ?
They seemed fast to me.
@@Fextralife Thanks for the answer ,
i guess im just worried because Obsidians 1st person games are very similar to BGS games , and i really dont want to play another loading screen simulator again.
@@mistressminerva3382 Starfield loading screens are pretty fast man. The problem was there was a lot of it.
Looks good. I'm hoping to see a bit more polish by the time it releases proper and I'm not a huge fan of the ui, but that's subjective. I'm also disappointed at the lack of customizable races. Seems like a strange exclusion, and it really restricts replayability.
Good info Fex .
I think for me, I’m just more interested in my fantasy being dark fantasy. so I am just not drawn to this game anymore than I am Minecraft lol.
To each their own, but I don’t get the sense of immersion here that I am looking for so it’s a pass for me
I love Obsidian, and I want to play this game, but I feel dizzy just watching your video. I hope the third-person view will be enough to fix my motion sickness.
So after playing outer worlds, obsidian lost their quality writing, that during their golden age made their games must plays, have they replaced that must play factor in awoved?
Also how does this compare to tainted grail fall of avalone?
The gear outfitting is being reduced to paid dlc as shown by the outfits you get through pre-ordering. I really hope the gameplay and story/writing make up for the lack of customization that seems to be present
Hmmm. There's a lot I like and dislike about what you've said. I'm still interested in this title, but with it launching so close to mh wilds, this one will have to live on my wishlist for awhile.
The launch timing is def bad with wilds and kingdom come 2 so close
This game looks so good I’m bummed they aren’t planning on doing mod support but it’s still the game I’m looking forward to the most
The art style is spot on IMO. It looks like a Pillars game, which it is. Also with such a short amount of time played it seems that you think you know far more about certain aspects of the game than someone would playing that amount of time. Judging combat at level 5 is like judging Diablo 4's gameplay at lvl 15. It makes no sense.
I just wanna know what the heck they did to that guys arm to make him look like that casting. I think the camera needs to be a little higher and the animations of the arms improved
