Doug is always worth listening to.
I love that man ,lots of down to earth common sense and a true old school gentleman, not many like him left.
I was just thinking the exact same thing ! Happy New Year to you.
Yes absolutely!
Thank you, Doug. Terrific advice, as ever!
What a lovely talk from this guy... I could talk with him for hours
He is right i have my over/unders but my side by side will always be my favorite just for the nostalgia of it
Side by sides are much easier to load in a hurry... seriously worth owning both rather than choosing between the 2
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing his insights.
What a wonderful gentleman, I had a Spanish Umbe sxs with a Prince Albert stock and 25 inch barrels, I'm tall and thin and used 2.5 English cartridges as this chap recommended in a 2. 3/4 chamber, I used it for rough shooting pheasant with good results and yes after two years the right main spring went, I got it replaced for €20! The gun cost €150, I really liked it 😊
Low pressure 2 3/4" should work well, too. Unfortunately it can be difficult to determine the pressure characteristics of many commercial shells. Low brass does not necessarily mean low pressure at all.
I absolutely love your videos. Thanks.
Thanks for clearing that up.
That is knowledge and expert advice! Excellent!
The answer to "how many guns should one own" has a simple formula in nature:
G = N + 1
Where G is the total number of guns to be owned and N is the Number of Guns I currently own today. This formula resets itself every day.
So yes, nature dictates you should add a Side by Side to the collection
I love this!
Your algebraic formula is spot-on!
What a lovely video doug really enjoyed listening to your wealth of knowledge
If you can get passed the small finishing errors in a Brno ZP-149, they're an excellent gun for the money. Its also a sidelock. A cheap 3 pin with coil spring sidelock but its still a sidelock! So from a distance it looks like you have a pretty nice gun! Especially if you have the one with the game scene. Then you get up close and can see some odd grinding marks on the trigger guard that someone blued over and that the checkering isn't straight.
I love my older and under but the sense of achievement I get from hitting with my side by side is much much greater. Love my little aya
wonderful! wish i had the resources to come to your shop and pick up one of these fine memory makers...
i was in london in the early seventies courtesy of the us navy and of all the places in the world i've been, this was the most enjoyable. i am a little too old for travel now but i sure love listening and watching these high quality videos.
Thanks Greg, glad you're enjoying our channel
I'm tall and lean. My preference has always been for the older British stock design with a fair amount of drop at the comb and heel.
The shooting stance is much more comfortable. I don't have to contort my body to "fit" the stock and the gun tends to point where I'm looking. It's difficult for me to understand why shooters seem to be content with poorly fitting stocks. I see that many trap shooters now use guns with ridiculously high ribs. Aren't they, in great part, an effort to overcome the handicap of stocks that are just too straight?
More great advice from a very knowledgeable man.
Glad you enjoyed it
Old school Gentleman 👍👍
Thanks!
They're such beautiful guns
This man has a lot of wisdom.
I love my little W&S 2020K. Its got single trigger, fixed chokes, 3" chambers and 26" barrels, ejectors, case hardening and only weighs 2.8kg. It is a sweet little gun and cost only 550 quid new last year!!!
@soupertrooper Yes.
@soupertrooper I believe they are made at the same factory. I'm thinking the model name is the boxlock estate model.
Hi can you make a video to show as top 3 or top 5 budget side by side guns ?
Thank you 🤗
I still use Dad's AYA No.2, bought new for £87s15. in 1962. He used Impax 28g. No.6 and I never saw him disadvantaged!
What a great video . Thanks so much. Great host.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent information, I’m selling some guns I don’t use for a new AYA.
English side by sides are pretty guns. Only thing I got against them is that they are so expensive. I can only speak for me, but I don’t see where a shotgun is worth over $100,000. I mean I can buy a house and land for that price. I happy with my American made LC Smith by Hunter Arms manufactured I think in the 40’s. It’s a Field Grade. I thank my God for blessing me with it.
YES!!!!!
sXs means great shooting !
Still shoot my 1890 Geo. Fuller hammers with Damascus barrels. 2 1/2 " cartridges, light load, as the maestro says. It will never have steel shot put through it, an absolute no for Damascus barrels !. Different technique from my Browning 525, but so is my intent when game shooting ... I am there for the company, the fresh air and the food, not a score.
Im looking to by a side-by-side. What would you recon of a Webley & Scott 700 series? 12 guage.
Fantastic gun, not exotic, but good looking, reliable and they handle well. You can't go wrong with one.
I may have an opportunity to pick up a Ugartechea side by side later this year. What's your experience been like with them and are they worth owning?
He didn't answer you but I have owned an Ugartechea 12 gauge side-by-side for 6 years now and it's (by far) my favorite shotgun to take on upland game bird hunts. I've yet to have a problem with that shotgun and I bought second hand (25 years after it was built).
I don't recall making this comment but as an update if you're interested, I did buy the Ugartechea :) It's been a lovely gun and I'm enjoying shooting it on the rare occasions I'm able to have a few shots. The tip of the left firing pin was detached so I had a gunsmith make me a new pin last October.
For the money (sub £100), I don't think you can get a much better gun.
You know hes an expert i cant understand a word hes saying haha!
Jacob Davis don’t be a dick
Captions would help tremendously for non native speakers out there.
I was just thinking the same thing. This video would be great with English subtitles………LOL
👍👍👍👍👍
I use for what fits me and that is a side by side . If a gun looks good and fits good in your hands then that's the one for you and don't let anyone tell you different ..... Period ....
I would rather have a good spain made double.
👍👍👍😍😍😍😎😎😎
This would be so much easier with subtitles.
What language does he speak?
Am I the only one who cannot understand a d
amn word he is saying?
Use subtitles
WTF is he saying?!! Can't understand a word!!
I have trouble understanding him sometimes as well.
