    I am American and hunt with a SxS. The guy teaching tiny John how to use it is spot on. A SxS is about the gun being an appendix of your body. There is no controlling. There is only a natural bond. SxS needs a come back asap!

    I love the English style of trap/skeet shooting. Living in the USA, I would love to see more of this style of shooting. I am a big fan of the SxS shotgun. I really wish I had access to some of these wonderful, vintage classics found in the UK.

    Man, coming from an American, I am very jealous of the elegant and gentleman like shotgun shooting culture in the UK. These types of firearms are often dismissed as fudd junk in the US but I think they are actually quite beautiful and an art. This video just confirmed my decision to buy a side by side soon ;)

    When I was a student in the early ‘90s I used to call into John Dickson gun shop on rose street..... well on the corner and stare at the Dickson Round actions they had in there...... in those days £20k would get you a good one ( still untouchable as a debt ridden student) but it was nice to dream......

    Slightly bias because a lifetime friend sadly no longer with us owned a 30' Damascus barrelled Round Action Dixon.I shot the gun now some 40 years ago.It was I recall to use a more modern analogy like ''skywalkers light sabre''. I have been saying for years that the SXS is the forgotten gun. How many times have you been in a gunshop and there are basically no side by sides on the racks ? They are dismissed as being old fashioned and fuddy-duddy, when they are a design designed and refined in the extremely competitive world of the British guntrade in Victorian times. I have a couple and love them. An OU feels heavy and cumbersome to me now.

      @ramiklaib4501 3 роки тому +2

      yes its a very good point , SxS are very good in hunting fields especially and more relay-able but i think people likes the OU mire than a SxS because of the chokes that can be attached to an OU

    The Brits tend to shoot guns with barrels that are too long. Part of the Dixon's revelation for you was its 28" barrels. I'm almost your height and remember well my first day with 28 inchers and then began to wonder what one of Mr. Churchill's 25"s felt like. I still don't know despite sitting here in my den looking at 5 SXS's and knowing that there are 6 or 7 more in the safe. Very good video. It's fun to see the enthusiasm of young people.

    I always enjoy seeing the British side-by-sides in action. I recently migrated away from my 12 and 16 gauge Browning BPS guns for Rizzini and Beretta side-by-sides in 16 and 12 gauges, respectively. They just seem to point themselves. Can't wait to try them out on our Grouse here in northeast Wyoming. Thanks for sharing the video with us.

      @purtnearperkins Рік тому

      So, how did you like the Beretta’s during grouse season in WY? I’m debating whether to splurge on a Beretta 486 in 20 gauge or pick up a good used Browning BSS in 20. I used my 12 ga BSS last season in UT but it’s a big lunker to carry around chasing grouse.

    I shoot game with a 25” sxs, clays with a 26” ou and enjoy considerable success with both. Friends are shooting clays with 30 and 32’ barrels and mercilessly mocked my 26” until my shot to kill ratio wiped the smile away. The 25” will bring down a 40 yard plus pheasant equally as well as any other gun, providing the barrels are pointing in the right direction and that is the key.
    To fund my shooting I won’t use anything longer than a 14” ou for post offices, banks and security vans.

    Lovely guns and a great video. I have a number of older English side by sides and can look at them for hours appreciating that they were made by men using hand tools...files, draw knives etc.. To top it off, they still work very well, including an 1863 Damascus barrelled hammer gun converted from pin fire to centre fire in 1875.

    Your love is understanding a fine shotgun . I've had over and under shotguns ,but then I quit listening to the people with one eye on their forehead and one eye on their chin . The big difference that I noticed right away is they crack open shorter and load easier. . A nice practical vintage gun is an LC Smith. It's a work horse . My boy almost took state in trap competition and was our top gun but only after stopping with an over under . If you can find a Barretta 626 onyx buy it . It's again a work horse and it throws slugs very nice. Right on at 30 yards and 4" easy at about 60 yards . Mine is 26" barrels . The LC is 30" with full and full . It would've helped my boy to open it but he loved it so much he didn't want to touch it ,I have the same love. 😎

    I love rough hunting my Webley and Scott 2020K 26". I saw you guys had a 3020K in the shop, I know its not a Miroku but its too bad you never did a review on it.

    Hi I would love a English side by side for this level of value, I’m a retired American Soldier with 5x combat tours who can’t afford the big names. I have so much respect for British shooting sports. I’d be so grateful for links to places that sold side by sides like this that would import to my state. Thank you

    I enjoyed the story on the Dickson shotgun. I note that you mention it is a Damascus barrelled gun and am curious to know your thoughts on shooting damascus guns with modern cartridges. My family owns a Henry Atkin ejector from late 19th century that is in nice condition with 2 1/2 in chambers. It's an heirloom but I believe guns were built to shoot not to look at. 65mm shells are not all that common "down under"

    Got this old Husqvarna 1310 Deluxe. Fits me beautifully, however, we are only allowed steel shot on the range.. Been considering boring it up to 76mm and let it live on the trapper range for the rest of its days.
    Neithless to say me and the gunsmith will have to have a discussion whether it will take trap steel shot or not..

    I don't often care about the appearance of a gun, I'm much more focused on function over form, but good lord that is a pretty gun.

    Fantastic video guys - your presentation styles really complement each other. Out of interest, what was the barrel length of the Dickson? Thanks!

    Unfortunately, (or fortunately?) SXS's are becoming more popular in the US. I would see maybe 1 a week come through the trap range, but now there's at least 10 a week. The prices in Pawnshops/Gun stores/GunBroker have doubled.
