    It's amazing in all these videos that they all jump past the part on how to line up the hole through the roof

    • @SkinnersOffGrid
      @SkinnersOffGrid  2 роки тому +1

      Just cut your hole in the ceiling where you want your chimney..Then use a plumb bob up in the attic to find centre of your hole, then drill a small hole up through the roof.. then go up on to the roof and cut your hole. Cheers!

    Ok Mr. This is how I do things, congratulations you are the first one to put the damper in the proper place that I have seen in almost 45 years. I helped my Dad put up a small stove in our house and as we got to the pipe placement he put the first section together I asked him how do we make the round pipe fit the oval outlet from the stove. before a blink of an eye he grabbed the section of pipe, slammed it on the kitchen table, held it up for me to see and there it was oval at one end round at the other. When that pipe hit the table I liked to jumped out of my skin. He two put the damper in the middle of the second section of the pipe.Good job. Yikes that deck looks great!

    The deck looks really nice after it's stained. Now I suppose you will have to build a railing for it. Take care my friend 's and don't work too hard!!😁😁Talk to you soon!!
    Your friend Al.

    shouldent you use some high temp silicone calking around that storm collar and the flu pipe up top?

    Good thing you secured sheet metal to the wall behind the pipe with the damper that high! ...stove pipe is only 24 gauge so I'm sure she gets HOT!
    Having to replace a damper is rare as they're made to get hot. If you want heat from the pipe, I recommend a fan or a Magic Heat. =]

    In the stove pipe for a friend's high-efficiency wood stove, they had a dampener. It ran the stove pipe too cold and the creosote buildup was terrible. They had to take it out.

    • @SkinnersOffGrid
      @SkinnersOffGrid  6 років тому +1

      Yes I have seen that before when the people used too large of a pipe going up from the stove... This is a six inch all the way up, also their stove probably had a baffle inside it, This stove does not have one Jeffrey, Apples to Oranges 🙄

      The cottage is just actually getting finished, they were just too busy to get to it, they own and run a hunting fishing camp in the summer plus prospect lots, also they were still finishing up small projects in their new house.

    So thats the way you flash

    • @joequillun7790
      @joequillun7790 4 роки тому +3

      Not really. The chimney flashing on the roof should be slid under the shingles about 1/2 way down the thimble, if not more. That way you're not relying on the glue on the sides as the sealer, but the shingles themselves. But I guess this method will work, for a while, until the tar starts cracking.

    • @billyboots3730
      @billyboots3730 3 роки тому

      @@joequillun7790 i guess you can always just check the tar and repair as needed, it only takes 5 minutes, once a year to check up on it

      He built and wired the house..... I think he knows where the wires are. Plus he said in the video that he had removed the insulation. Hence he was up there and knew no wires.

    • @SkinnersOffGrid
      @SkinnersOffGrid  6 років тому

      Thanks JC, Yes you are right, I went up in the attic first... And I knew there would be no reason for wires being in that corner, no lights or light switch over there and the electrical panel is on the other side of the house... Thanks again my friend, cheers 🌞

      He doesn’t care,he didn’t even checked for the layout of roof trusses before cutting the hole,plumbing and wiring is optional for him as well
