    That ten inch chimbley is huge! I wonder where you were able to find it? My stove had an eight inch outlet and all I could find was six inch chimbley so I got an adapter to neck the stove down to six inch. It works great for keeping my little house good and warm.

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Huck! I bought all the parts from www.discountchimneysupply.com I thought about reducing to 8" but ran into the same snags. There wasn't much of a price difference and I wasn't sure about using a reducer. I would have had to go to a 6" to get the metal box cathedral support and rubber boot chimney flashing for the steep metal roof. Did you reduce the pipe near the stove? I knew you could go up but never could get an answer about reducing down. Anyway, I did not feel comfortable about going from a 10 to a 6. Happy your stove works good ...as always appreciate you

    • @huckfinn4260
      @huckfinn4260 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the link Duke. I'll be looking at that as I still need to buy a chimbley for the new house. I'm still trying to decide whether to run it out a wall or through the roof. I have issues with it both ways and I'm still trying to figure out which is least objectionable. When I bought the chimbley for the little house all I did was shop at the building centers and ended up getting it from Home Depot.
      I put the adapter to neck down the stove directly on top of the stove and then I put a stove pipe section with a damper on top of that since the stove didn't have a damper. I went through the wall with it, because it's a flat roof on the container and I thought it would be difficult to keep it from leaking. Doing research when I was designing the new house I ran across a silicone flashing that is good for high temp and has an aluminum collar that is malleable to shape over the ribs on a metal roof. They claim it works very well and you don't have to cut the roofing to tuck the high side in. I think the name of it was Dektite.
      I don't know how necking down the stove from 10" to 6" would affect how the stove performs. It looks like your stove is a fairly big one. I think you have to have a big enough fire in it to get the stove iron hot enough to radiate heat. That might work with a smaller chimney or it might not, but you're probably right to go big rather than small and then maybe find out that small don't work. I found my stove on Craigslist and the seller told me he used a six inch chimbley, so I was fairly certain that 6" would work for me too, and it does.
      I had been toying around with the idea of putting in a rocket mass heater in my basement. For that to work well the chimbley needs to have the same cross section area as the J tube, so a 6" chimbley would make for a very small diameter J tube that I'd only be able to burn small sticks in. That's why I asked where you found your chimbley, because I think I might decide to go with a larger diameter in the new house and then if sometime down the road I want the rocket mass heater I'll be set up for it.

    Mr. Duke forgive me for asking this off subject question. I'm not able to fix up something like this.. I would like to know your opinion of heating my small shop, probably 25x25. With a space heater, torpedo heater, whatever you know it by. Like the 30-60,000 BTU Mr. Heater.

    • @RuffCut

    I'm taking notes here Duke, I'm going to have to do this next spring. Is it a major problem to use a reducer to go from 7" on my stove and use 6" pipe? I know its supposed to be the same as the stove all the way up but can I get away with it? Looks perfect so far.
