I first seen this movie when I was 19yrs. old. I'm 44 now. I understand the film more now than ever. I liked it when I was younger. I like the idea of a Guerrilla Army that reeks havoc all over the world. This movie should make black people all over the country wanna rise up. It's still not too late. If you are black and from the hood it should wanna be your obligation to help and uplift your people with the knowledge that you incur. We've allowed "The Divide and Conquer" methodology to warp our sense of community. We have to realize that when one wins, we all win. We have being Black in common and nothing should ever change that.✊✊✊✊✊✊✊
This movie was so revolutionary. Unfortunately, ‘The Spook Who Sat By The Door’ was in the shadow of typical blaxploitation movies that gave us the story of pimps (The Mack and Willie Dynamite).
"Comrades who were broken,Psychologically!"That resonates deeply with me.It's a staunch reminder of the price black people play when in opposition to white supremacy and the awakening of the consciousness to its evil ways. Not all of the homeless brothers and sisters are derelicts and outcasts of their own doing, many of them are just fruits from poisoned soils.
That's why we need education and unification now more than ever! We need to learn more about our culture and history because knowledge is power! There are about 3-4 Black History sites on Facebook that Black folks need to sign up for instead of using social media for nonsense! In fact, I just found out that it was an African brother who invented the internet!
Respect if I never make another film look at the one I made . Powerful message that you for the movie thank you for having the courage to put this on the screen I really hope this movie can help our people as a whole .
I'm 37yrs. old and I saw this film when hit theaters and wonder where is went. But the as I watched again this time the riot scene as Robert Townsend describes hit me hard while in the comfort of my home 30 yrs. later, talk about surreal! Ebony magazine front cover photo of the chi-town riots and the child lying in the street after being shot.
amen. 1973, the heart of film breakouts. steelyard blues, woman under the influence, diary of a mad housewife, slither, they might be giants, harod and maude, alice doesn't live here anymore, and finally bringing back "spook". Great!
And to me, I think it's a damn shame because even now after all these years, Black people STILL haven't gotten the message! And younger Black people will see something like "The Spook", and think it's stupid and corny! They would have absolutely no idea of what they are looking at! And that's what's very sad.
I’m from the blackplotation moment but never seen it until the other night blew me away reminded me of the run that Christopher Darner made one man asymmetric warfare
@@sidneycliett9145 Don't even sweat it, dude. That movie was a sleeper that got by a lot of people. And between you & I, in the wake of all this civil unrest due to the George Floyd killing, I say the need has come to adopt the "Spook" type of an attitude. Because all the speech delivering and marching so far hasn't helped! But we need all Black people to stand as one! Ever wonder why we don't hear about cops gunning down any Jews, Hispanics, Bangladeshis and so on? It's because they all have the attitude of "...YOU MESS WITH ONE, YOU MESS WITH ALL US!" Some thought for food, my brother.
Touched a nerve when he said he knows 1's they broke down psychologically personally hard 4 u 2 see the breakdown of ur bro N sis in the struggle n kno wat it wuz n wasnt drugs. Not jus a person brokedown possbly a whole town check how Gary,Ind went down⬇️ after the movie came 2 town
I disagree with him on this, reparations isn’t begging for crumbs that white man’s table, no we build the white man’s table the white man’s house in this country. we need our reparations and that’s the only thing we need from the bastards.
I always thought the most realistic portrayal of how a current day Civil War might start was Euel Arden’s novel, Down Here in the Warmth. Great book. Militia on the streets of NYC.
The managers of the film company gave this story the green light because they thought it was one of those black exploitation movies which were being churned out at the time.
True but there's always ways to do things. We can all do like they did in this movie except that times have changed. Obviously, things are more sophisticated and technology is much more advanced. SOO, we have to adapt with the times. Technology can used both ways. But the biggest thing is that we as Black have to start believing that WE CAN instead of WE CAN'T!! That was really the subtle point in the movie. Why do you think the Jews are able to do what they do,own businesses and be our bosses? Same thing with these people who come here from Pakistan, and Yemen and Bangladesh? First, because they're ALLOWED to and second, because they act as one and support each other! You mess with one, you mess with everybody! That's how we as Black people have to be! And as Dr. Umar Johnson said, we spend the most money in America and DON'T OWN A DAMN THING!!
It's 2025. I first heard about the movie in 1995. I didn't read the book or see the movie until now... I just remembered the title today for some reason.. I'm reminded that no oppressive government has ever voluntarily surrendered its power. I'm reminded that the revolution will not be televised... but perhaps here's a blueprint for change

@@BlackPDigitalMedia you do realize that it takes money to build, right?
Well stated🥂
