I wish I had found your video before going around in circles with the supplied instructions, it would have saved me so much time. I was able to update my map in my 2019 Grand Caravan. Thank you!
Outstanding "How To" video. Never mind all those confusing and conflicting step by steps instructions by Chrysler/UCONNECT. Now... On January 16, 2023 I get this; The map update for this navigation system is discontinued and is no longer available for purchase through this site or at dealerships. Please note: Map updates are typically offered for approximately 5 years after the last year the system was sold on new vehicles. Thank you.
Thanks Ben! Sorry to hear there are no more updates available for your vehicle. In all honesty, after using the NAV with the upgrade, in our opinion, it's not worth it anyway!
I bought a map update for my 2017 Jeep. The instructions that came with the update were worthless. The instructions did not mention some of the necessary steps like making a Garmin subdirectory and garmin text file on the memory stick. Your video's step by step instructions were perfect and I got the map update installed!!
Thank you for the video. It was very good. What is missing though is all the things I (and most likely a number of others) have to figure out before the unit accepted the MAP update. This is nothing short of ridiculous and took me 5+ hours of trials and errors. Update the radio software once with a download from Chrysler, then with the stick that came with the MAP update. Next, update with Garmin Express the Garmin software, I was not as lucky as you with my 2015 Wrangler. Last and finally the Garmin MAP update went through. It helps to be sane before starting and having some time to burn. For a while I was worried :) The instructions are rather poorly written. Anyway, done! Thanks for your help, what your video shows is all correct.
Great video! It makes sense but I think after watching this I am going to install my Tom Tom and not deal with it. It's actually cheaper to buy a new GPS with maps than it is to buy updates. Thanks again for the video!
Thank you for explaining everything as i am completely lost on how to do the update. Lol. My screen keeps telling my map is more than a 1year old to check with Garmin for possible update or dealership and I have to press remind me in 28 days or 1 year all the time. My jeep is 2018 JK and I called At Garmin they were trying to make me a factory reset by pressing temperature up/down and defrost button same time and nothing works. Dealership is telling I have no update to do also! I’m confuse.
You are welcome Caroline. Even after doing the update, our radio still popped up the message the other day. This is about the time of year it always pops up. We just hit the remind in a year and will do the same thing next year. lol I think it must be programed to do that and has no idea if you have done the update. I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure some people update every year thinking they have to. 🙂
Holy cow. Who created that system and process? Since my Jeep is a 2011 and never did this I plan to watch this video multiple times over the next month before I give it a try. Great info I would have never figured all this out. I will let you know how it goes when I get the nerve to try it.
Thank you for producing such an in depth video. I encountered a problem with my Navigation back in 2017 that I could never resolve over a 3 hour phone call with Uconnect. I have a message that reads something like locked maps. I randomly came across your video and I have followed it step for step till 4:22 into the video. I got a red banner that reads, "Sorry, we are having a problem communicating with our servers". Since I did not get an "up to date" message on the radio, I have stopped to write you. Have you or anyone else encountered this? How would you proceed?
Have you heard of hardware corruption with these radios and could this be the cause of my Navigation not functioning and giving me the error message "Cant Unlock Maps"?
HI Milo. Sorry to hear you are having issues with the install. There should be an easier way to do map updates. 🙄🤔Did you try to have Garmin Express find it again? Maybe the website was down? If it still doesn't work, call HERE Maps Support Center at 1-866-422-8182. We did have to call about a question we had and they were great. Hope this helps. Good Luck! 🙂
@@GetGonewithUS Well I was able to learn through Garmins FAQ that it could be a problem with my internet connection or firewalls in my laptop. Basically, I had your video running in the background as I was doing things step by step as your video progressed. Apparently playing your video and down loading material from gamin at the same time is too much for my internet. I closed the video and was able to get the navigation maps to update. Once I updated my radio with the maps I went to Garmin website to order the $150 update. Well apparently they’re out of stock and won’t be in stock until November 2021. And at that time it will be a brand new version. When I spoke to Uconnect, Garmin, and Here’s they all told me this update will not fix my problem because it’s all hardware corruption which makes no sense because I didn’t do anything to bring that on. I guess I will take that $150.00 chance bc I have read many times it worked for other people and some tried 5 times before it worked. What was your motivation to get the update?
@@miloo318 Wow Milo, I hope everything works out for you. The reason for the update was that we live and travel in our RV and we noticed some roads and highway exits no longer exist. Points of interest are no longer where they once were either. We figured an update was probably called for.
@@miloo318 Hardware problems are not necessarily brought on by the user or any human action. Hardware "corruption" can be due to many things, including stray cosmic ray cascades that flip bits in the data and software stored in your electronics. Hello guys , thanks for the video much many info and clever, been saying that, so I have purchase something, do I have to pay for the update for the radio on jeep?
Thanks for the great video! I was a bit confused at first as I thought your 'Software Version: 7.09 was up to date message' meant your maps were also update to date but apparently that's incorrect. LOL....So, I can't seem to find a definitive time to update the map to ensure operation on the most current. A brief message suggests if an update is not made within a year then to go ahead and proceed with an update. I purchased a 2018 wrangler (used) at the beginning of 2021 so it's unclear if the previous owner updated the maps and if so, when. Do you know of a way to determine which map version is the most current and which is loaded to the vehicle? You also made mention of waiting to the end of the year as it was cheaper but are you able to clarify which version you're on? Thank you!
Hi Michael. Accord to our map update, ours is 2020. You can call HERE Maps Support Center at 1-866-422-8182, you should be able to help you get the answer you are looking for.
Video is great and clear but I tried this method on my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Overland and it would not do anything once I clicked/tapped on 'download system information' prompt on the screen. Kept asking to plug in USB, but I tried plugging into the Media cluster port, and inside the center arm rest console. No dice! Which sucks because my NAV has been acting up since I purchased this vehicle. Its my second 2020 Gladiator, but not a Rubicon. I NEVER had issues with the Rubi Nav/GPS. This one, says to turn at places that do not exist or the back-up camera stays on the screen for 15 seconds before resetting back to media display. So frustrated.
I keep getting the "Sorry, wer're having trouble communicating with our servers" prompt :( Any help? It's right when I hit the circular arrow that says "refresh to check for updates". thusly, I'm in limbo here I guess :( Thanks.
