The Launch Series with only 20" wheels is more premium price than the regular 19" wheel price which is meant to be similar to the old version, once the zero-day buyers have had their fill.
I bought one of the last pre-highland Model 3 in September 2023 when I saw they got rid of the indicator stalk on the refresh Model 3. It was such a dumb move 🤦
I got the 3 refresh and I have a Y. I now prefer no stalks and it feels so archaic when I get back in the Y. Double tap the pedal to reverse or go forward.
Finally, good video ryan. It was really getting old watching MY juniper speculation videos. I do wish Tesla would have done more after 4 years, like 800 volt architecture, PowerShare, drive by wire, etc
Did I hear correctly and this guy said the difference in width and height between this and its predecessor is ONE MILLIMETER? That’s nice, but i’m hoping that the max range is at least two millimeters further than the previous model.
VERY happy to see the indicator stalk! Would prefer to retain the drive selector one as well, but could live without that much more easily. Indicator stalk here in the UK is a must!
I'd love to see that steering wheel and stalk be compatible with existing model 3 highlands. I've gotten used to my buttons, but would still definitely prefer a stalk
The Model X has a bigger battery pack. No need the Model Y to have a bigger battery pack, that would make it more expensive… and compete with the Model X.
In China there are also not many models going over... Nio has the swappable big battery, I think maybe one or another car too, but still not putting in huge batteries
Sounds like great upgrades! Only thing I would have wanted is ceiling handles, so that older people can get in and out of the car easier! Not a deal breaker for sure, but pretty much all cars has this.
Love the new look and Turn Signal stalk!!! I’m a Model 3 guy that might consider the Y for the new design details!?!? Might wait to see if those come to the 3 though too?
I like the new Model Y much more than the old one. Great improvements and I'm glad that they are keeping the stalks. Only disappointment is that there is now new platform or at least a bigger battery. 75 kWh capacity is just not enough for me personally. At higher highway speeds (Germany) the current Model Y is too inefficient compared to the Model 3 which brings the range down to about 300 kilometers in my experience.
My first impressions are that I really like this car because it is different. I can order from Australian website, but it is the more expensive model, will wait until they release the standard model Y as is already a stretch price wise.
“Some customers still like a stalk” This should be “some markets need stalks” I have lived in Dubai where they use the US road system, so I can see how indicator buttons are easy to adapt to. But I’m from the U.K. where many junctions have a roundabout, some are very small “mini roundabouts” So picture the situation where you want to take an exit off the roundabout and need to indicate but the steering wheel is upside down, this throws muscle memory out the window and makes you use thought “wheel is upside down so buttons on the other side and the top button is now the bottom button” may only take a couple of seconds but you just missed your exit! Try it on a future video in your Highland, find a small roundabout or go to a carpark and try the indicators whilst the wheel is upside down 🤯 lol
I just picked up a 2025 Model 3 a couple weeks ago and love it! My two gripes are the lack of a turn signal stalk and the lack of a nose camera (I have a very snug garage). It's funny those are the two new main features they added beyond mirroring the Model 3 changes.
Hoping it would have had more range. Oh well.. Will wait until they give a free FSD transfer before I update to this new version. Usually the incentives come at the end of the year if sales are slow.
Yes, I have patiently been waiting for this car since first hearing about it. The first day that I had my 2021 model Y my big complaint was the ride discomfort and road noise!
10:24 think about the cost of minor parking collision if you would have to replace the whole bar and both DRLs... car would be totalled :) I am so happy to see indicators stalk, overall - great update.
I would have loved to see Vehicle to load type charging functionality…Glad to see the stalks are back. There was zero chance of me changing my current Model Y if I had to have no stalks. Oh, softer suspension is a must for UK roads.
I wonder if they will do a mid life refresh of the 3 with stalks. Whether or nit stalks / no stalks is actually better In practice , its clear that many are just put off by lack of stalks and wont try. Also, in environments with lots of roundabouts (aka circles) stalks are more practical even if you can "get usedl to their absence. As a shareholder i welcome anything that removes a barrier to sales
Hi Ryan, I just checked the Australian Tesla website and it is available to order here. Estimated delivery May. LR (551 km WLTP) @ AUD79,452 drive away (in Victoria), RWD (466 km WLTP) @ AUD69,032 drive away.
@@gregb1599the price increase is probably Tesla expecting an order rush. This would limit it somewhat and increase profit. Prices will likely go down during the next 12 months.
The back light bar not being a direct LED strip but rather the reflection of a hidden LED strip is actually kinda cool. Gives it a more futuristic look.
I ordered today in Australia with the website saying deliveries starting in May. Love the new features but I was hoping for a 240v outlet in the trunk and vehicle to home but oh well. Damned if I’ll buy a powerwall when there’s 140kWh of batteries in the garage.
If it matches the Model 3 Performance it will have adjustable suspension that you can set to be softer when not hustling the car. That along with better seats and slightly faster by .2 seconds.
After owning and driving Model Y for two years, I sincerely believe it did not justify the premium label, there's significant room for improvement and I see, it can’t catch up with minor changes.
I'm not impressed enough to dump my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD which I'm enjoy tremendously and the ongoing FSD updates adding to so much more of the vehicle's function and safety. Additionally, the loss of the $7,500 Point of Sale discount scheduled to end on 1/20/25 only justfies my decision NOT to buy the Juniper along with the depreciation hit I would be taking. So I'll wait for the next major revision on the Model Y in 4+ years. I truly enjoy my 2023.
The ride update is key. Honestly, I'm sort of surprised that Tesla is taking so long to dramatically increase battery technology. :( I bought the model S in 2013 with 259 miles range. 12 years later...maybe 350 ish??? That's one hundred miles of range increase over 12 years (keep in mind the 100D was close to 300 back then). The cost of the battery has come down but the lack of breakthroughs in EV range is sort of shocking.
Yeah, I’m not feeling the front light bar. I was kinda hoping they did steer by wire and faster charging. I am also hoping/think it’ll be cool if they launch the performance model first in the US.
Hi Ryan, Great Commentary. The lack of interior stacks, buttons and nobs is a big no go for many consumers who are very traditional drivers. The Styling of the New Model Y is fantastic but the concern is the illumination provided by the front light bar. It would have been great to see tiny rectangular pop up headlights on this vehicle. Tesla needs to refresh the Models S & X to mirror the styling of the Cybertruck and this new Model Y. I would love to see a van version of the Model X for those customers with mobility issues and or those customers who just need more interior space - Model T = Transport or W = Wagon.
I handed my leased Model 3 back to Tesla last August in the anticipation for this refreshed Model Y. I'm really eager to see a release date here in the UK, as from April this year the UK government are introducing an "Expensive Car Supplement" on EV's. This tax will apply to EVs over £40,000GBP. It's been around for a while for ICE cars, but is coming for EV's. I was hoping this refresh would be released prior to this change, but looking at the Asia release dates I'm no longer hopeful! This new tax, with the introduction of what we call 'road tax' here in the UK, will make owning/running an EV even more expensive. Other than this, I like the look of this refresh. I just don't know I'd be able to justify one if it comes too late in the year.
This is it? It is just a minor facelift. This will not be enough to bring Tesla Model Y sales back to old highs for very long. Expect price cuts to come.
Available for order in Australia as well. Glad I didn’t wait and grabbed the previous model y a few months ago. I was worried they’d remove the stalks, glad they didn’t. The rear screen really didn’t interest me enough to wait longer plus the cars significantly more expensive, another $10,000 AUD 😮
@@electrolysethat's would be stupid for Europe. USA can get away without it but Europe is like China. Most people I know here see the lack of stalk as a complete show stopper. I fully expect this stalk on the Berlin version too. It would be a stupid move not to include it. We have tons of roundabouts in Europe.
Glad to see that Europeans requirement for indicator stalks was listened to. If you live in a Country where there are millions of roundabouts, you need indicator stalks, not buttons that are in a different place every time you have to signal to leave a roundabout. Sadly it's going to be too expensive for most of us. Hopefully the cheaper versions coming soon will be on a newer 800V platform with faster charging.
Was hoping for a drivetrain upgrade. 800V and bigger battery and range. This is the car they hope to be the sales king for the next 5 years. From the drivetrain standpoint it will be good for couple years but At some point it will be behind the curve. Maybe a platform overhaul in 2-3 years as R2.

The Launch Series with only 20" wheels is more premium price than the regular 19" wheel price which is meant to be similar to the old version, once the zero-day buyers have had their fill.
All the costs have been added already, this is a lot more expensive than the old model, so the all colours are just included in the high extra cost.
Well the price has been increased by $7,500, so don't feel like you're getting a good deal with simple things like that included..
The glacier color is sick 🔥🔥
Was on the fence, but the turn signal stalk being kept has made my decision much easier.
Yes, same here. The indicators get used all the time in city driving. Glad they listened.

Seems like Tesla acknowledged that. Hopefully they return it to the M3 and other models.
Absence of the physical turn signals was the biggest deal for me. Glad to see them back off, but would love to see more physical controls anyways.
Thats not going to happen but IMO stalks was a step too far.
So far your video is the most detail i saw on the refresh

Finally a real video! Very close to what I thought it would look like. The news about the stalks is huge. Now, bring on the PERFORMANCE model!
Very disappointed not to see a larger battery pack!!
Where would they put it lol
I commented on this. It's really surprising to see Telsa stuck on that 300 - 340 range on their EVS for the last decade or so. :(
