I just wanted to see what was up and they made me watch a video about being able to find happiness and peace through their teachings. They then tried to manipulate me into spending money that I didn’t have. When that didn’t work the lady brought in her higher up who also tried to convince me...they all dressed very nicely with black suits that had gold trimmings. I eventually got to the point where I wasn’t really learning anything else about the place, so I left. I got a couple of texts after that, they asked if I was still interested but I didn’t respond. I feel lucky that they have not pursued me further.
There's an investigative journalist podcast I listen to called Oh No Ross and Carrie where two friends go undercover to be in scientology and study it... Spoilers, they end up getting kicked out and banned for asking too many questions. They were being respectfully inquisitive, not rude, but still Scientology just didn't want to tangle with them. In some cases, it seems it's not hard to get them off your back!
My aunts neighbor was a member. He was excommunicated from the church, and now he rarely leaves his house. He got in trouble for publishing documents that showed the church in a negative light and exposed them.
My dad tried getting my mom to go to couples therapy at a Scientology center, I think she went once then skipped their second appointment and when she skipped the “therapist” showed up at her house yelling at her to come out and that she HAD to go.
