Hello, i'm a Dominican from the Dominican Republic. The managers at resorts in La Romana (also known as Punta Cana) for big brand hotels like Hard Rock Hotel and Grand Bahia Principe have been recently trying to pocket more money by buying cheap alcohol and replacing it for higher end brands. My family relies on tourism, so they spoke to employees across many popular hotels to find this out. The employees are upset about it too, but they remain powerless and risk losing their already low paying jobs. I went to Hard Rock Hotel around the time this video was uploaded, and there were signs suggesting people not to overly drink alcohol, whether they had other underlying health risks or not. There is no serial killer targeting popular hotels. There is no hate for tourists (we depend on you). There's only greed from some higher ups. I posted this on another video with the same topic.

But when I was 3 I heard gun shots from my house and my family where hiding in our basement, my uncle ended up dying trying to get to the house, and a lot of things happens over there, it is very rough, and most people from the DR are crazy and they have it rough, and plus we are very poor, which means our alcohol could contain food poisoning. Unlike America, we don't really check our drinks.

Estrelleta you just validated my point once again. It’s obvious you are inept and incapable of identifying suspicious patterns. Perhaps you should stop leaving cringey comments because you are making a fool out of yourself. Im so sorry you lack certain basic concepts.
Estrelleta you’re 100% right. with millions of tourists, 11 people dying is nothing. People are going to die, whether it be in their home town or on vacation. The people could have all died from drinking the tap water, for all we know. And more people died in the same timeframe in the previous year, but no one mentioned that because there’s no “pattern” people just want something to criticize or care about. I’ve gone to Dominican Republic almost every year I’ve been alive, and I’ve never seen or heard of anyone having a problem. People looking for a trend that’s not there is going to hurt a third world country’s main income, and all the people that live there are going to be affected because of our need to look way to far into things. It’s sad, really.
@@troll8963 XO My mums cousin was a poor Dominican- he saved up for 20 years to buy a motorcycle. He died riding it a week later. It wasn't said to be a heart attack luckily. 💖 Love to you from a poor Canadian. XO
It's always deemed a heart attack or pulmonary adema, even if they have no heart problems and were perfectly healthy. They always die in the night and it's usually after having one drink.
No *reported* heart problems. You'd be suprised how many minor heart attacks go unnoticed or unreported. Not saying that's what happens, but medically it is not weird. Often times the heart attack that kills is the "straw that breaks the camel's back" so to speak.
If anything, I'd think a place that has such a large tourism industry would want to cover up the fact that people died on vacation, not kill them on purpose. Unless you mean the heart attack thing specifically, because that does sound like a doctor covering the fact that they weren't sure of the cause of death and had to put something down on the form.
I think they'll survive just fine as long as they don't drink the alcohol. Seems like this is the case of alcohol poisoning (or poisoning from something else that the alcohol was contaminated by) caused by low quality/dangerous booze
This definitely freaks me out. My wife and I went to the Punta Cana resorts for our honeymoon in March of 2018. One night we decided to try and go for a walk on the beach to enjoy the clear sky covered in stars. We made sure to walk not too far from our place and remain in the resort area of the beach. However, during our walk we were approached 3 different times each by a different person. They would suddenly appear from the darkness out of nowhere. Each time the person asked us if we were interested in purchasing anything (drugs) from them which we declined each time. Unfortunately, we decided to cut our walk short and just turn around to go back to the resort after feeling really sketchy by the whole situation. It's crazy to hear these stories occurred around the same place and time that we were there! Definitely be careful if anyone ever decides to go!
I want someone to go and get a sample of the shit they're serving Americans at those minibars and pouring in the showers, bring it back to the US, and have it analyzed by a private facility. I'd love to know what the results would be.

When I was 18 we went to the Dominican Republic in 2014 and I was able to drink alcohol. On one day I got super sick, close to food poisoning severity. The thing that stuck out to me was that I had 2 Glasses of whiskey on the rocks of the Same brand. The glass I drank at another bar tasted a lot worse than the first. Could it have actually been bootleg liquor?

I’m thinking it’s some kind of waterborne sickness that’s killing them. The Dominican Republic is not the best in terms of human development, and countries with little development often have poor water quality. In places like Cambodia, Laos, and various other poorer countries, drinking tap is ill advised for those reasons. Even putting ice in your alcoholic drink has the potential to poison you. They might even dilute liquor with water to make up for the demand. This is just my theory though.
This makes the most sense, and explains why they would be so quick to declare things heart attacks- if the risk of food and water bourn illness and death was widely known that would hurt the county's tourism industry.
Duane Bollig Your country is basically doing that itself. I get that the income of tourism is important, but it’s best to actually solve the issue instead of covering it up. Good luck & hopefully everything clears up.
@@teukufayzal9998 The higher ups might not do that, the same can't be said to the lower employees like bartenders. If the hotel have no old bottle for new bottle exchange policy, they can easily send purchase order, refill the old bottle with cheap liquor and resell the new unopened bottle.
I’ve been to the hotel, they are very rigorous with security and quality check, they do thorough background checks on employees, I doubt that this is the case. The bottles in the minibar are always sealed when you first get the room, so they couldn’t be tampered with. Also keep in mind if it were this, then a lot more dead people would be appearing, not just 11 out of the whole 6 million tourists.
Also school nurses: Just lay down over here and try to sleep it off. I totally won't forget that you're here. _Seriously tho, there were times in primary school that the nurse would have me lay down to rest, and next thing I knew half the day had gone by and no one had bothered to wake me. Needless to say, I began to use this to my advantage._
I was also a victim of these strange illnesses. Back in late 2017, my in-laws and our family of 3 stayed at the Hard Rock Punta Cana for a week. I am the only one out of the group who actually partakes in drinking alcohol. Very rarely does anyone on our vacations join me for a drink. 3 days into the trip, I started feeling very ill with many of the symptoms that are being described in this report. The illness really did come out of nowhere. I am a fit 5ft 10 in, 185 lbs, clean bill of health, fit, 40 yo who exercises heavily 4x - 5x a week, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. It almost felt like the flu and a hangover combined and at times I swear I was hallucinating. Luckily after 2 days I was better. I thought at first it was a mosquito bite, but everyone got bitten in my group and I was the only one who got sick. The only thing that I did different than the rest of the group, is drink the booze. If it walks like a duck, and it talks like a duck...... is it really a heart attack?!?!?!? Or could it possibly be a freakin' duck (aka Booze).

I have been to the Dominican Republic twice. On my second visit, I had to be hospitalised. I had never ever felt so sick in my life, I generally thought I was going to die. I sometimes think it’s not always the drinks, but the food too. The majority of places over there are ‘all you can eat’, so there are so many people using their dirty hands!

Moral of the story, stay home and watch Netflix or Hulu and never go on vacation.
Sirspookyface15 You’re correct, thanks for not shining a bad light on our country 👍
Duane Bollig Your country is basically doing that itself. I get that the income of tourism is important, but it’s best to actually solve the issue instead of covering it up. Good luck & hopefully everything clears up.

Yeah, methanol poisoning might be the cause. Maybe these hotels refilled their bottles with some cheap moonshine to cut cost.
Hard Rock hotel is a very famous luxury and expensive hotel, they wouldn't do that.
@@teukufayzal9998 The higher ups might not do that, the same can't be said to the lower employees like bartenders. If the hotel have no old bottle for new bottle exchange policy, they can easily send purchase order, refill the old bottle with cheap liquor and resell the new unopened bottle.
@@babablacksheep3950 Good thinking
I’ve been to the hotel, they are very rigorous with security and quality check, they do thorough background checks on employees, I doubt that this is the case. The bottles in the minibar are always sealed when you first get the room, so they couldn’t be tampered with. Also keep in mind if it were this, then a lot more dead people would be appearing, not just 11 out of the whole 6 million tourists.
Doesn't methanol make you go blind?

That could hardly be the only reason, there are many places like that elsewhere.
