Thanks a bunch. I tried this a year ago, and my fiance used the screws and the old band. I'm glad I kept the new parts. I'm going to try this again. Thanks a bunch! You saved my green egg also!!
Green Egg owner for 10 years. I have changed bands a few times and always wondered if doing things correctly. Awesome video with practical instructions. Thanks
I just upgraded my large BGE to the new band system following your method and the supplied instructions. It was a huge help being able to watch your video before attempting it. Great job.
Thank you very much. The new bands finally came back in stock this week and your excellent step-by-step tutorial will all the insights of someone that has done it before was of great assistance to me. I wish I could hit 'like' more than once!
Jay - you are the man. This saved me a lot of time rather than trying to follow the confusing instructions that came with the new band hinge assembly. Thanks so much for the video.
Great video and great camera work by your young cameraman! This video was very detailed and you took the time to explain EACH step! I will be using this video today as I replace the old box hinge assembly to hopefully correct this ongoing overbite issue. Thanks again.
Watched a few vids while I hunted down a large hinge kit, not easy...Came back to this one as my install guide. Simple, direct, well explained. Thanks, Jay.
Thanks ordered a new hinge assembly for my XL. Will be replacing the gasket and installing the new hinge and bands the next day or two. Video is a big help.
Great tips. When the kit came it looked overwhelming. Your video allowed me to remove the old one (which broke in the middle of cooking 2 Boston butts) and replace in about 1 hour. And I did not have to repeat any steps. Thank you.
Watched it twice, watch as I assembled… it took me more then 28 minutes but great video to follow…no more gaps…fairly straightforward and far superior then the instructions in the box! Thank You!
All I can say is thank you!! Your step by step instructions are excellent and I rewound the video or stopped it many times throughout the installation process. If BGE is going to write instructions with an “Ikea” style photo, they need to hire a better artist. Without this video I would have stared at it with zero success.
Nice job! The only thing missing from the video was a cold beer! I too appreciated the step-by-step instructions with insights where the written instructions failed to clarify. Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for the instructional vid. Just brought home a BGE that belonged to my wife's family from decades ago. Trying to refurbish it...this helps a lot!
Excellent video. I plan to go buy new bands tomorrow and install them on my 20 year old large Big Green Egg. I am sure I will come back to this video for help! Thanks very much.
Installed new bands this morning….with your video close by. Everything worked as you demonstrated. Replaced the gasket and nest as part of the project. My 20 year old Big Green Egg is like new again!
Thank you. Seeing it done is very helpful.. No directions in my box with new bands..Bought a new gasket also. I’ll be changing that first while top is off. Than installing new style bands/hinge.
Hey Jay. Just want to say thanks for your video and how you explained every step. I just got the bands for my 21 year old egg to replace the old, old style bands! I put the bands on using the instructions, but it didn't seem quite right. I didn't use the spacers correctly and left those extra fasteners that go on the front of the bottom band off completely, so that may have been why it leaked smoke. I came to UA-cam and found your video and have completely re-installed, so fingers crossed, no leaks when I fire it up. Oh, those dimple markers on the top and bottom, I had no idea that was to line the top and bottom half, so I didn't bother lining them up the first time. Thanks again!
This was an outstanding and very helpful video! I followed your presentation step by step and replaced the bands on a LARGE and and X-LARGE BGE this past weekend and your approach was simple, straightforward, and easy to follow. Thanks... the instructions were basically duty paper and it would have been a struggle without this video. #ApplauseAndManyThanks
Thanks for the great video! You probably saved me 2 hours plus a trip to confession for all swear words I would have said trying to figure this out on my own.
Purchased band assembly yesterday from our local dealer. Not happy w the price, but oh well what can we do. Turned it into a project with son and I and got to spend some quality time w him on the installation of the band. We went ahead and and replaced the gaskets due to overbite/underbite being so bad. Used your video as a quick reference guide and it was a breeze. Appreciate your video sir!!
Great video. Made the hinge / band replacement super easy. Two things. First, you don't need to remove the top. Just slide both bands over the top into place. Second, I'll buy you a set of sockets if you promise to use them. I can't watch that open-face wrench any more.
Thanks for the video, it helped when I changed my Large BGE over to the new set but I'm trying to work out why there are aligment holes when first placing the lid back on. If I line mine up, the temp gauge is off centre and it doesn't look right.
Great video...Why you put the springs in upside down? If you put them in the other way, they fall out when there is no tension on them. Thanks for the video.
Dude, thank you so much for this video. Extremely informative and helpful. I'm about to tackle this on my 12 year old XL this weekend and I desperately wanted to see someone do it. Again, thanks for sharing this.
I had to redo mine earlier today, somehow when the store assembled it the hinges were not on correctly, this video would have been helpful. When all the way open do your top gasket touch the hinges?
My Egg turn 17. I replaced the old style hinge and bands with the new assembly. The lid no longer opens completely as it did with the old hinge. I guess I’ll get use to it. I replaced the Nomex while I was doing this.
Thank you fir the video, I need to replace the bands on my BGE. The video will help. Only question I had is.... if BGE doesn’t send the spacers, how did you get them?
The spacers should be included but if they’re not your dealer should have some. When I was working at Ace we always had a few extra sets just in case someone needed them.
I bought the new assembly for my 1999 large bge. Your video is very helpful, thank you. Will the old style wood slat table mate attach to the new band?
The spacers... I've searched numerous websites for the spacers. Are these free at BGE dealers or can they be purchased most places? Thanks and I will referring back to your detailed video once my band arrives.
Jay, which thermometer do you have on your set-up? That thing is huge! My Egg is about 20 years old, small thermometer, and so clouded I can barely read it anymore.
It was the first thing I upgraded! A few years ago Egg’s started coming with the 3”. Here’s a link to them. biggreenegg.com/product/oversized-temp-gauge/
Before you loosen the bolts open the lid, this removes the spring tension. The springs should be easy to remove now. Gently close the lid and loosen the bolts to remove the old bands. Be careful lowering the lid it’s heavy without the springs!
Wish I would have watched your video. I was given a big green egg and readjusted the bands to correct the underbite. The first time I opened it...the top went crashing to the floor. 😔
Thanks a bunch. I tried this a year ago, and my fiance used the screws and the old band. I'm glad I kept the new parts. I'm going to try this again. Thanks a bunch! You saved my green egg also!!

Glad I could help you out!
Great demonstration and explanation on using the spacers and installation.
Mate, I’m sending you profound thanks from Australia. That video on the BGE site was worse than hopeless. You saved my Egg.
Those egg videos are useless! Glad I was able to keep you rolling smoke!
Great video and great camera work by your young cameraman! This video was very detailed and you took the time to explain EACH step! I will be using this video today as I replace the old box hinge assembly to hopefully correct this ongoing overbite issue. Thanks again.
Glad to help! I’ll pass the kind words along to my cameraman!

Just finished replacing the band on my large egg. Your video made it so much easier...thank you!

Jay, you are the man! I wasted two hours until I found your video. Thanks so much.
Glad I could help!
I am a newbee to the "Egg" universe and your tutorial on installing the new style band saved me so much time. Thank you so much.
Glad to help!

You, Sir, are a great teacher. Your instructions and approach helped me perform this task right, the first time. Thank you very much
Thank you very much!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time. I'm ready to do mine now!!
You’re welcome!
Nice job! The only thing missing from the video was a cold beer! I too appreciated the step-by-step instructions with insights where the written instructions failed to clarify. Thank you for making this video!

Great job on your step by step video
I installed a new hinge on a 6 yr old BGE just now, watching the video as I assembled mine,Thank you
Very helpful video, thank you for posting. The new style band is WAY better than the old which was much more difficult to work with.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. After 10 years of using my BGE I need to replace the hinge and this video is very helpful.
Thank you!
Thanks for a great video. I just changed my old set up bands to the new set up on my 15 year old egg and it took about 2 1/2 hours. I feel great.
Thanks for the detailed video! I replaced mine today and watching this first was a major help.
Hope it helped!
Really, really well done tutorial of the entire process.
Thanks!
Excellent video. I plan to go buy new bands tomorrow and install them on my 20 year old large Big Green Egg. I am sure I will come back to this video for help! Thanks very much.
Glad to help out!!

Outstanding! I’m going to make a gasket replacement video one of these days.
Thanks for the tutorial. I finally upgraded to the new hinge and zero underbite is a beautiful thing.
Really wished I had watched this first. The instructions are vague at best. We now have it sealed and it works great. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Replaced mine yesterday. Your video was extremely helpful. Thanks.
Many thanks for your video. I watched it today and it made replacing the hinge and bands on my 8 year old large BGE much easier!
Thank you. Seeing it done is very helpful.. No directions in my box with new bands..Bought a new gasket also. I’ll be changing that first while top is off. Than installing new style bands/hinge.
Thank you so much. Great video and good angles to see every step.
Thank you very much!
Great video. appreciate that you filmed the entire process
Thanks, hope it helps!

Best explanation of how to change and align the band. This has been a struggle of mine for almost 10 years. This video made it simple. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
I’m changing my band to the new one, but I need to do my gasket too. Should I change my gasket before my band assembly ?
I would. Much easier to change when it’s completely disabled.
thanks Jay !!
great video it helped with the upgrade to my 22 year old large BGE
Awesome glad to help! Egg on!

Thank you Jay! I've been trying to get my new bands adjusted properly for a few months. I "get" how the new bands work now thanks to you.
Glad to help!
Thanks for the great video! You probably saved me 2 hours plus a trip to confession for all swear words I would have said trying to figure this out on my own.
You’re welcome!
Followed your video step by step. Install came out perfect! Thx Jay!

Happy Holidays! I know your comment was 2yrs ago, but how much did the new style band assembly kit cost?
My memory is not the greatest, but I'd say around $125 roughly. I've had zero issues since installing it. @@mikeymike9616

Thank you Jay. Following your video made this very straight forward.
BGE should hire you to do their installation videos 😁
Got it done but don’t think I coulda done it without this video ….Thanks
Glad to help!!!
Pretty helpful, got mine done today. Instructions are crap. If you leave the band screws off, you don’t need to remove the top.
My hero! I just put on the new band and handle and this wss really helpful! Thank you!
Thanks!
Good job. I just followed along this morning and it looks great.
Glad I could help!
Excellent video sir! Just got done with my new band install and your video was a big help.
Glad I could help!
Great video! This retooled my 13-year-old egg.
Great video! Thank-you for sharing. A ratchet spanner would have saved you a great deal of time.
Thanks for the positive comment. I don’t mind how long it take as I’m retired. Plus they tend to get hung up as the bolt bends.
Great video, I was about doing this and you made the step by step process easy to follow
Thanks!
Great video. Replacing mine this afternoon!
Hope it helped make the process easier!
Great video. It would have been very tough without it. Thanks!
Thanks, Jay! Replaced the bands on my 16 year old egg this morning. Your video was great. Happy thanksgiving!
You’re welcome! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the video. My kit did not have instructions, so, this was a great instructional video.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the detailed instructions. Very helpful!
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the video. I had my hinges upside down. Probably should've started BEFORE Friday afternoon and 2 beers.
Nice hat, by the way.
Thanks! Love Joe!!!
Very well done and extremely helpful. Thank you for doing!
Thank you!
This video was very helpful, appreciate it. As a gift, can I send you a 7/16 socket set? 🤣
Thanks! The reason I use a wrench and not a socket is as the bolt bends it can catch the socket and make it nearly impossible to remove.
Ratchet wrench
Great video. So much better than instructions for BGE.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video, it helped when I changed my Large BGE over to the new set but I'm trying to work out why there are aligment holes when first placing the lid back on. If I line mine up, the temp gauge is off centre and it doesn't look right.
I would align the temp gauge hole with the mark on the bottom.
Great video...thank you....I watched it and then went step by step with you as I did mine.
Thank you! Was struggling and you were most helpful
Good work man! This was very helpful. I love my BGE but they need to work on instructions. This is great!
Glad I could help!
So incredibly helpful! Thank you!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Thank you for the tutorial Especially the extra screw. Was pulling my hair out..
You’re welcome!
Great video...Why you put the springs in upside down? If you put them in the other way, they fall out when there is no tension on them. Thanks for the video.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time for all the explanations
Glad to help!
Hello Jay, if I have the side tables, at what point should I place them?
Thank you!! Worked perfect
Dude, thank you so much for this video. Extremely informative and helpful. I'm about to tackle this on my 12 year old XL this weekend and I desperately wanted to see someone do it. Again, thanks for sharing this.
Glad to help! Let me know if you have any questions.
A really useful instructional video in 'real-time'. Thanks v much
Hope it helped!
Jay…. Where did you get that nice grill grate on your green egg. Seems wider than anything I’ve seen?!
Thanks Ted
It’s the Big Green Egg cast iron grate.
I had to redo mine earlier today, somehow when the store assembled it the hinges were not on correctly, this video would have been helpful. When all the way open do your top gasket touch the hinges?
LBeckons no they should not. I think you might ave the bands to close together. However that is a guess without pics.
Thank you for this video! It helped me a lot!
Glad it helped!
Ridiculously informative. Thanks!
Hope it makes it easy!
I was just opening my egg to remove my Easter brisket and the hinge fell apart, what a predicament lol, where can I get the new style hinge? XL egg
Ace hardware is my go to.
Excellent video!
Good video. There's no reason to remove the dome though. The new assembled bands will slip right over the top.
Thank you!! Great video...so easy to follow along!!
Glad I could help!
After using it a few times we have gaps again in the back. How should we try to correct this? Thanks for any help.
Loosen the upper band and use the spacers to readjust the top. MAKE SURE to remove the springs prior to any adjustments.
Great job!!! I know it's asking the impossible and I know most dont have one but torque specks on those bolt would be nice🔧🔧🔧🔧
I asked egg about that. Their reply way to make sure the bolts are bent. I agree with you but that’s the answer I got…
My Egg turn 17. I replaced the old style hinge and bands with the new assembly. The lid no longer opens completely as it did with the old hinge. I guess I’ll get use to it. I replaced the Nomex while I was doing this.
That’s part of the redesign. Keeps the lid from falling out if the bands aren’t tight enough.
Helped me out a lot.
Yes the only change they made was the slats.
The spacers... I've searched numerous websites for the spacers. Are these free at BGE dealers or can they be purchased most places? Thanks and I will referring back to your detailed video once my band arrives.
Good news your new band will have spacers with it. Hope your replacement goes well!
Like freak'n brand new...Thank you
Awesome! Now you have a new egg again! Enjoy!
Thank you! Very helpful
Glad it helped you!
is there such a thing as over tightened back screws. Seems like my bottom band keep riding up in the front would slip off the egg.
I’ve never seen this one! Is it riding up as you’re tightening of after all is done?
@@adventureswithjayusa9570 yes. When i tried to open, the lid and the whole band assembly would come off.
Wow I would have to say you need to see your dealer. Unfortunately trying to figure this one out over the internet might not work.
I’m buying you a ratchet for Christmas
I wish I had seen your video before I put mine together. I would have saved a lot of aggravation and uncertainty.
Thank you! Very helpful...
good video, thanks!

You’re welcome!
My egg will not stay up when I open for first time - what am I doing wrong?
You skipped the part that is the reason that I even clicked on this. How do I loosen the existing bands without the springs flying open?
Before you loosen the bolts open the lid, this removes the spring tension. The springs should be easy to remove now. Gently close the lid and loosen the bolts to remove the old bands. Be careful lowering the lid it’s heavy without the springs!
@@adventureswithjayusa9570 Thanks. That is what I figured, but did not want to chance it without hearing if anyone else did it that way.
Wish I would have watched your video. I was given a big green egg and readjusted the bands to correct the underbite. The first time I opened it...the top went crashing to the floor. 😔
Sorry to hear that! I hope you were able to get a replacement lid and new style band.
