Big Green Egg Overhaul after 15 years of use

- My Big Green Egg was the most expensive grill I've ever purchased, but since it's lasted so long, the cost of replacing cheap grills every few years has easily paid for it. However, the last few years it's starting to show it's age. So I decided to overhaul it with all new parts after 15 years.

Thanks for this video. It's great to see how you upgraded your old BGE so easily. Looks like it's ready for another 15 years of service.
Thank you, that's the plan!
Just got a green egg. Great to see how well these Grills hold up, even with little maintenance. Thanks for the entertainment.
Hehe, enjoy!
Overhauled my egg after 15 yrs about 6 months ago. I normally use acetate for gasket removal but the goof-off works well. The lid/handle assembly is much better than what we had. I think you’ll like it thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Ya it's a lot better than the first generation handle, but I think the wood will still rot in the sun in a few years.
Just picked up an older model large BGE in good condition. Just needs the same updates you just did. Thanks for the vid.
Good luck!
Gasket replacement goes more smoothly using acetone with a plastic putty knife. The acetone dissolves the adhesive, and the plastic putty knife is less likely to damage the ceramic.
I'll keep that in mind for next time!
Why did you not do a burn off before placing new parts on? You still have a dirty smoker.
Did you watch to the end??
I’m about to do this to my XL bge. Thanks for the vid. Takes some of the apprehension away.
Glad to help, as long as you don't drop it, it should last forever.
Looks like new. I just got the Large Egg but I'm afraid to take apart. Feels like like I'm break it 😂.
It will only break if you drop it, but other than that it's actually very rugged
@@CarolinaCowboys Oh ok haha. Thanks for the video.
This vidja was super titz. Thanks for posting. I just picked up a 15 year old BGE large with composite wheelie cart for $250usd. I’m gonna do exactly what you done here to mine. Best regardzzz
Nice! I put links to everything in the video description. Good luck with the rebuild!
I would of done a clean burn a night before
It can help
Why didn’t you do a burn off before starting this?
And I think the gasket would be easier to remove too.
I had done that not too long ago, I made a video about it, but since it was pretty clean I didn't need to do it again.
The majority of the gasket is easy to remove, but the glue can be difficult to get completely off
Your cast iron grid is upside down :)
It's reversable!
You should get the ash basket and bucket...
That would make cleanup a little better
