I would add glycine and possibly proline to that stack. They are two amino acids that make up collagen; thus, you can skip the digestive breakdown part of ingested exogenous collagen into its constituent amino acids. 9-12 grams (@3-4 tsp) of glycine per day. As a bonus, it is also a constituent of glutathione, your master oxidant/anti-oxidant balancer, and also mimics methionine restriction, which attenuates homocysteine levels to aid in the protection of DNA integrity.
For those without serious skin conditions (that's my caveat), it's always better to get your nutrients from good, wholesome, organic veges and, if possible, pasture-raised, wild-caught eggs, meat and fish. After all, how do we even know that the supplements in the market are made out of the best-quality ingredients? Supplements are not even regulated by bodies like the FDA, and have the reputation of being very dirty, even harmful, like all other packaged foods. It's good to remember that many famous internet gurus and influencers like Huberman have their own farms and orchards and livestock and whatnot. Even the water that they drink is the best that money can buy, not filtered or plain tap water that the average person drinks. So, for those of us who have at least average health, we can improve it very much by cutting our sugar, carbs and seed oils and we had better rely on the best whole foods that we might be able to access, and believe me, they are waaaay better than any supplement belted out by pharma.

Thinning skin is one cause of dark circles and the skin around our eyes are one of the thinnest already. Retinal/retinol/retinoic acid can help slowly thicken the skin. Skincare containing niacinamide, glutathione, vitamin C, etc can help with reducing the pigmentation in the under eyes. It will take time to see results but if your under eye bags are the result of thinning skin and hyperpigmentation, then this treatment will work. If it’s because of excess orbital fat or fat herniation, then lower eyelid blepharoplasty would be the best option.

This is what I do: I use retinol (not over my eyelids) every second or third evening, and vitamin C, i use red light therapy, micro current (Nuface but zip may be superior) , an amazing neck cream, of course copper serum every few days (very inexpensive, I use the ordinary) also a few serums, and I do consume hydrolyzed collagen, vitamin D , and I try to drink a good amount of water and exercise regularly, and I try to sleep on my back (I have a special pillow to help with this) hyaluronic acid is ok but it will suck the moisture out if u are in a dry climate, so slather moisture on top, also… some people like snail mucin for extra moisture or there are a few other good serums (esp Korean. Finds like beauty of Joseon), I haven’t tried NEWA yet for jaw laxity but I will try soon, laser treatments can be good too like Fraxel esp for under the eyes. For dry eyes, surprisingly, in addition to a heat mask and preservative free eye drops, caster oil, lastly it,if you have quite dry eyes as I do, you can put your eye cream on and then put an ointment on top like aquaphor , Dr Dray recommends this , and it so works ! Is it possible that retinol can somehow dry out your eyes if you use it every night? I had to stop using it for awhile and my eyes got better! I still use the retinol twice a week, and I put a tiny drop of castor oil in my eyes when I do
This video is packed with insights into skin health, shedding light on how supplements like hydrolyzed collagen, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid work together to promote youthful, glowing skin. It’s fascinating how these compounds not only help to retain moisture but also boost collagen production, reduce pore size, and even out pigmentation. The exploration of retinoids, and their potential to influence skin health on a genetic level, is especially intriguing. This piece truly makes complex science accessible, and it’s a must-read for anyone interested in skincare. Thank you for sharing such valuable information!
I’ve been using prescription tretinoin (Retin-a) since I was 18 to treat my acne. I’m 50 now and I think it’s why people think I’m in my early 30s (or maybe it’s genetics). Every now and then some fool will think I’m a grad student 😂
@@mkryu 😂 Too funny! I do think genes has a lot to do with it. I’m mid 40s, haven’t used Retin-A, and people think I’m in my 20s. I haven’t had any work, fillers, etc, not even dermarolling, but people assume I have and one lady even asked what I’ve had done. LOL Though I do moisturize, I don’t plan to do any of that stuff. I just want to be healthy and happy.

I found that extra virgin olive oil on my skin is MIRACULOUS. Sebaceous filaments just melted off. Just using it once had a tremendous impact, currently I'm on day 3 of this new routine I stumbled into by accident.
Diet plays a role too. I use these items on my skin, but have yet to achieve a smooth skin texture. I will admit that I consume more than what is acceptable of sugar. I do love sweets, but I want to reduce my sugar intake. It's a process.
Sugar causes glycation, which definitely shows up as an uneven and irregular and unattractive texture. The jury is still out on whether or not is possible to "cure" glycation, so there's every possibility that you are permanently damaging your skin forever by eating a lot of sugar.
Genes, I come from Spanish Italian Sicilian background, looks like my mother and grandmother had a great skin…I always wondered why. But now in my 55 and counting I rely on sleep, sport, wine in moderation and plenty of creams like tretinoids, and so on… I don’t do Botox or fillers and people think I am 15 years younger 😅
My hairdresser is doing great with retinol and microcurrent treatments. I am very fair and vitamin c cream or retinol irritate my skin. Using sunscreen is also key.
Most brands feature L ascorbic acid as their vitamin C derivative, and yes, this is irritating and causes inflammation etc. Look for the THD l-acorbate version. It's stable, which L ascorbic acid is not, and just as effective, also more expensive, which is why manufacturers don't use it. You will find it in most brands created by dermatologists for this very reason.
Yes, retinol is frequently very irritating to the skin. Instead, look for retinaldehyde, aka retinal. Very stable, oil-based, actually stronger than retinol but without the irritation, dryness, and flaking. More expensive than retinol, which is why so many manufacturers don't use it. However, most skin care brands created by dermatologists do use it for obvious reasons.
I thought taking niacinamide internally could cause facial flushing. I was taking Hyularonic Acid capsules but my dermatologist warned me there were links to these causing cancer so I stopped.
Retinaldehyde is an even better choice because it's stronger than retinol and there are no side effects like inflammation, redness, dryness, and flaking. You will often see it called retinal, also.
Feed yourself nutrient dense foods. i don't know what all I'm doing, but I have good skin especially for my age. I don't take or do anything particular for skin. I just try not to use too many chemicals. I use tallow soap.
okay if i start using B3 niacinamide would that outweighs all the other vitamin B and suppress them? wouldn’t it be better to just take a Vitamin B complex?
Retinaldehyde is stable, actually stronger than retinol, and does not cause redness, irritation, peeling, etc. I personally use Avene. Start out with the .05% and then if you wish, graduate to the 1%.
You seem to be a science enthusiast. Consider this as a much easier, cheaper and side effect free beauty routine, suitable for all, even when they want to have children! 1. Clean the skin with a natural, nutrient packed substance: brown sugar. 2. Apply the top of the milk (boiled and left to cool) and leave it on for 30 minutes. 3. Remove the milk with a cotton pad. 4. Apply an essential oil that is skin regenerating. There are many: carrot seed, rose, palmarosa, even good old lavender is really good. Of course, everything you apply on your skin will be absorbed, so it should be organic - free from pesticides and other harmful substances. Done! Change the essential oil every three months and you have a complete, effective beauty routine for life, that is going to COMPLETELY change the appearance of your skin. I mean, starting with retinol in your 20’s and using it for the rest of your life, except that you can’t get pregnant… Help!
I like him. Probably worth the 8 minutes. But if you want the 2 second summary. I assume you are already taking collagen, that would be my number 1. 2 Niacinamide. When it comes to the various forms of vitamin A or retinol, it might need more individuation as some people might be sensitive. Do what is easy. Dont make it so complicated and or expensive, that you do nothing.
I tried Retinol serum 2% and it motives my skin complexion, but I got irritation in my neck and eyes. Supposedly it could safely be put under the eyes. I read that retinol kills the sebaceous glands in the eyelids for good and also the fat pads in the face and make the mature skin look thinner. For me it did make my face look thinner and skin was peeling of my neck like thin paper. My eyes were dry and red at night while sleeping. So I had to stop it.
NO retinol! It causes redness, flaking, dryness, peeling, etc. Instead, use retinaldehyde. It's stable, non irritating, doesn't make your skin flake and peel and actually stronger than retinol. You will notice that most brands made by dermatologists use retinaldehyde, not retinol. It's more expensive, which is why so many manufacturers don't use it.
@sballantine8127 Good to know 👀 Thx 4 sharing I believe different strokes for different folks. What works best for you may not necessarily work best for the person next to you so having options or the next best alternative is always Appreciated 👌🏼😎 Thank you
It feels like Andrew doesn’t get dermatologists right 😂 I think they mentioned topical ingredients, not supplements. Cause our skin condition depends more on our environment than on our inner health.
Agree. I took oral isotretinoin for acne and had to stop the course. It ruined my health and cost me a cartilage in the knee! All under the supervision of "dermatologist"...
And indeed I achieved a glass skin in the second month of using it. The skin on my face was like a stretched cling film so smooth and shiny. I thought that if I smile it will break! Never again I will swallow any retinoids pills.
The Ordinary makes an excellent niacinamide serum that also has zinc in it. It combats hyperpigmentation as well as enhances collagen production. If you find you get a bit of a reaction to it that you don't like, add ít into your moisturizer instead of applying it directly
Pro Tip : Tried and tested method, for a month don't use any chemicals on face not even facewash. Just hydrate, exercise, sweat, eat healthy, sleep and de stress and see how our biological skin system repair works. Thank me later :)
Only works for the short term but in the long run your skin would need help turning over cells, fighting oxidative stress and retaining moisture. That's why skin without skincare ages with time.

Thank you for sharing this...I started in my 20's also. Retinal etc..😊
Niacinamide might harm the liver, especially when used in high doses.
Retinal (better effectiveness then retinol), all other plus microneedling!
I use it topical and it’s great but now I’ll add supplements
It helps to show ALL young people too.
Feed yourself nutrient dense foods. i don't know what all I'm doing, but I have good skin especially for my age. I don't take or do anything particular for skin. I just try not to use too many chemicals. I use tallow soap.
I need it 😁 can’t wait
I'm using newyou glow collagen working well for anti-aging, skin, bones & joints
Loved this video.. thank you for the info
Thank you but it's more about diet.
Thank you. You are the best!!
Are there any brands reccomended for HA & niacinamide?
Andrew what would you recommend as a product that contains these elements in a supplement? Can these help seb derm?
Retinoids as supplements? Or just topically?
Topical. Try retinaldehyde.
thank you for the info
Fun fact: niacinamide in higher doses has also been shown to decrease symptoms of ADHD.
Memo: Niacidimide can help with hyperpigmentation (melanin removal)
2-10% concentration needed
It also boosts collegen production when used topically.
Number one: basic smooth-skin camera filters
Memo: hydrolized collagen in combination with vitamin c
thanks very much
Is a good quality hyalauronic acid and/or niacinamide supplement safe to take during pregnancy?
Never use hyaluronic acid regardless of your physical health or condition. It sucks the water OUT of your skin if the humidity is less than 40% .
Glutathione orally helps my skin as well as those mentioned.
Thank you🙏
okay if i start using B3 niacinamide would that outweighs all the other vitamin B and suppress them? wouldn’t it be better to just take a Vitamin B complex?
Does retinol works for all skin types?
Do not use retinol, use retinaldehyde, aka retinal.
Retinaldehyde is stable, actually stronger than retinol, and does not cause redness, irritation, peeling, etc. I personally use Avene. Start out with the .05% and then if you wish, graduate to the 1%.
@sballantine8127 which moisture is good for dry skin and which cream is good for dark spots
And what if somone has acne is the top layer of milk is ok to use
Sunscreen was left out.. without it all the mentioned things are worthless.
Collagen is a waste of money. Your stomach acid eats it up.
Memo: REtinol can increase senstivity to light
Niacinamide...you mean take NMN? Although I would actually place sunscreen at n°1.
Curious what Dr. Dray would say 😉 she advocates and debunks all things retinol
Same here I have sensitive skin.. just ignore retinol..
You can use Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Vitamin C serum
@sballantine8127 Good to know 👀 Thx 4 sharing
I believe different strokes for different folks. What works best for you may not necessarily work best for the person next to you so having options or the next best alternative is always Appreciated 👌🏼😎 Thank you
Memo: niacidimide needs to be used 3-6 month to see benefits
People who are addicted to nicotine or vaping are more obvious with time. They get a grey cast to their skin & teeth.
It feels like Andrew doesn’t get dermatologists right 😂 I think they mentioned topical ingredients, not supplements. Cause our skin condition depends more on our environment than on our inner health.
Ingesting synthetic vit A ( retinol)is not recommended so why put on face.
Interesting point 🤔 Skin treatment is topical and by passes the liver
@@MagdaVero That's awful, sorry!

Niacinamide in capsules ?
Niacinamide is Niacin or B3
@@casperinsight3524 taking NMN would be the same?
In the video he also said you can do it topically, in the range of 2%-10%.
The Ordinary makes an excellent niacinamide serum that also has zinc in it. It combats hyperpigmentation as well as enhances collagen production. If you find you get a bit of a reaction to it that you don't like, add ít into your moisturizer instead of applying it directly
@@sballantine8127 Curious what percentage is used in this serum for its effectiveness? Thx 4 sharing
Exactly 💯
Im not anti aging. Showing us young female and comparing, what? I age and if you don’t like it, don’t look at it.
Maybe this video isn’t for you then 😂
Then don’t watch the video.
Good for you
Learn from it or not, it's up to you...😀
You’re out of touch, just don’t watch this video if you prefer looking old.
@@imanieafrica I am not against skin care but using chemical induced products daily in the name of skin care will degrade the skin quality over time ( as cleaning using a clenser will rub off necessary essential oils and make a dry skin more dry and then again use a chemical loaded moisturizer omg! , I'll rather use home made recipies for exfoliating, cleansing moisturising & toning :) - go ayurvedic skin care way (turmeric powder, honey, yogurt, almonds oil, jojoba oil, extra virgin oilve oil, coconut oil etc are few best products nature has given and it's been used since ages by our ancestors to keep their skin healthy from inside.
Also gut health is important for skin quality
Eat berries and gooseberry and a lot of coloured fruits & veggies and anti-inflammatory food items to combat free radicals, eat natural probiotics from foods keep your gut health in check and rest our body takes care of its own
Follow Good Eating ( collagen rich foods alongside Vitamins & minerals, omega 3 sources ) hydration, exercise and Sleeping patters and you will reap the benefits over long term.
It depends on the person, their stressors, their genetics, their detox pathways, their state of health, their diet, their sleep, etc
Sunscreen is necessary. Topical and internal.

vitamin c from foods doess nothing for your face when used topically, you should use skin serum with vit c or niacynamide, rubbing food on your face borderline ussles

Ingesting protein collagen is not suitable for everyone. I love how these UA-camrs just copy other people and then put a bunch of stuff together and sound like they are the expert and know what they are talking about just because they talk with authority as humans we all know what to do and what not to doand it’s not topically applying all this nonsense get back in touch with what you know to be true and focus on that and less dependency on these so-called gurus
👌🏾
I thought niacinamide was only safe in low dosages 20-25mg or else you could get a niacin flush with 400-500mg?🤯🥵?
Love the flush feeling. Flushing now!

I prefer to get my skincare information from a board-certified dermatologist and not a neuroscientist. Huberman has lost he credibility over the past year. He should focus his attention on teaching student about neurobiology rather than trying to become the next big influencer. He's become a jack of all trade and master of none.
He literally says in the video that he interviewed board-certified dermatologists to get this information.
Haha , thats a valid point .
If you don't like it, don't listen to him. Before any video he does he gets information from specialists who know more about whatever it is he's going to be speaking about then he does.

At 55, I am told I look much younger, a student at a class I was teaching said I look 35 😊. This is what I do: I use retinol (not over my eyelids) every second or third evening, and vitamin C, i use red light therapy, micro current (Nuface but zip may be superior) , an amazing neck cream, of course copper serum every few days (very inexpensive, I use the ordinary) also a few serums, and I do consume hydrolyzed collagen, vitamin D , and I try to drink a good amount of water and exercise regularly, and I try to sleep on my back (I have a special pillow to help with this) hyaluronic acid is ok but it will suck the moisture out if u are in a dry climate, so slather moisture on top, also… some people like snail mucin for extra moisture or there are a few other good serums (esp Korean brands like beauty of Joseon), I haven’t tried NEWA yet for jaw laxity but I will try soon, laser treatments can be good too like Fraxel esp for under the eyes. For dry eyes, surprisingly, in addition to a heat mask and preservative free eye drops, caster oil, and the eyelets surprisingly seems to help lastly, I forget the name for it, but if you have quite dry eyes as I do, you can put your eye cream on and then put an ointment on top , Dr Dray recommends this , and it so works ! (Even Vaseline, if u have nothing else, will work). Yours in glass skin, cheers 🥂
