The factor of longer term breastfeeding of infants in jaw and teeth formation is almost always missed out in these discussions. Sometimes because of the mistaken assumption that infants suck breast milk which they don’t, it’s muscular action by a baby’s tongue, but also because we have very few examples of normal breastfeeding continuing to 2-3yrs after children start eating solids in Western societies ie breastfeeding alongside eating solids. We’re lucky if babies get 6 months.

There was a big change in a lot of medical people during the pandemic when they were wearing N95 masks for 12 hours a day and were mouth breathers to get more air. Along with changed facial structures with more thick neck jowls they also had sore jaws from keeping their mouths open for so long at a time! It took a long time to try and get the original shape/form back! I know first hand because I was one of them!
I’ve noticed changes in some of my elders who refuse to get dentures . This is great information thank you! I know there had to be a free & natural way to do something about these things ❤
I love this and think it's a fascinating medical topic, especially as someone who has dealt with a blocked cheek sinus for over a decade. At some point soon I'll get surgery for it, and I'm sure I'll be one of the people to see some positive facial structure change. I'm currently looking into a jawzrsize (level 2) as well.
I had Invisalign for years and got in the habit of using “chewies” to seat my aligners. Basically you chew on a little piece of rubber each time you put your aligners back in (so for people in active treatment, 5-6 times a day or so). The microbiome of our mouths has changed a lot over recent centuries. The bacteria most responsible for our cavities was not present in ancient people.
I've known this since the 1990s, when I was a vain young woman and read that placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth will allow you to take better pictures. I started doing that 24/7, and am now often assumed to be 15 years younger than I actually am. Mewing works.
My husband was associate dean of state dental school this has been known for 45 years and more....to dentists. My daughter now 53 was fitted with an upper palate expander at age 7 at the dental school so she wouldnt need braces later....it worked!!! Saved money and discomfort to her.
It's a structural issue. Theyre suffocating in sleep because of underdeveloped upper palates. Often, dentists with remove teeth due to overcrowding (?!?!) and retract into the spaces, impinging on breathing.
It was discovered two years or so that our brains have enlarged over the last 1000 yrs which in turn has pushed our teeth forward, causing more crooked teeth. Paraphrasing from book Breath by James Nastor. Maybe this is contributing to loss of teeth as well.
We also have teeth designed to chew branches and twigs in the very back (wisdom teeth) that never get stimulated. Muscle/bone (especially jaw bone) need to be stimulated constantly or it will atrophy or break down. It’s why when people have dentures they lose their jaw bone and their face looks sunken in. That’s a big contributing factor for why our face is so misaligned and we have evolved to not have room for our wisdom teeth. Same with breathing issues and sleep apnea totally dostorting our faces.
I learned that our jaws have become smaller from evolution due to the fact that we eat less meat and eat a more varied diet causing some meat cheering specific molars to become obsolete.
This is true and I have pictures that prove it. I got braces to fix my crooked teeth and 4 extractions. I thought my face was gonna lose it's shape but it actually became more defined after I started breathing through my nose and fix tongue posture.
I believe in all these things. If you watch my daily vlogs you'll see my face change day to day depending on levels of water, fruit and care. I always look different, and I'm in my middle years. Chewing gum helps, but how do you explain baseball players? That's what I think works. I might do a video on it.
A tongue tie will also restrict your jaw development. My daughter had hers released at 6 years old and her face changed in a few months as her anatomy allowed for proper development. She stopped mouth breathing and her cheeks and mandible widened and her posture straightened out. Many adults have tongue ties.
Wow! You guys are blowing me away! I used to be a model and was lucky enough to go to a prestigious modeling school. Once, Playboy offered me big bucks to model for them, but I wasn't comfortable with nudes. I am now 70. You are part of the world that tells young women and men that it's important to look pretty. I wish I could reach through my computer and have a face-to-face with you! By the way, I hated modeling because I felt no depth nor purpose, so I started my own marketing communications agency and had it for 45 years. And another thing - I still get told I'm beautiful; I'm a serious mouth breather (can't tolerate CPAP), have EDS, way prematurely wrinkled with baggy skin, live in an electric wheelchair, too thin, all the thick hair fizzled, and I have the kindest, most beautiful boyfriend in the world. Sorry you would puke if you looked at me. I cannot wait until you're my age and you look back at this video. Shame on you!
With all do respect, I think you've completely missed the point. Every technique that is discussed here that can make someone more attractive is something that humans used to do naturally and lost through modern living. Everything that is being discussed in the video and that I've seen discussed in the comments so far is about being healthier by correcting unhealthy habits. Being healthier will make majority of people more attractive. Why should anyone be ashamed here for wanting to be healthier or more attractive? Being both healthier and more attractive can enhance your life dramatically and have a positive impact on those around you; as long as you're not vain about it. We could of course talk about the beauty that comes from someone's personality, their heart and their wisdom but this video is about the power of correcting very unhealthy habits.
@@Siriusly3 It is ironic and highly deceptive how people condemn any topic on improving your appearance and natural looks, while society places premium on appreance and looks. Infection to the heart risk. Also I did try that mouth thing you bite on! Definitely feel the muscles working. I stopped bc I thought I’d break my teeth! God bless
Wow! I had no idea about this but I naturally always breathed through my nose and am a slow eater as I really chew my food thoroughly. My jaw shifted forward in my 40’s. I went from a tiny overbite to an underbite! Why? Will it go back? I am a nose breather. I remember tmj started first. It’s a mystery why.
As someone with tmj also, I think it could be related to the fact that our jaw causes aches and pains as well as clicks and makes noises which can cause us to baby it and not work it out the way that this man is suggesting is best
And until this day no doctors and no teacher will ever educate you on thus but instead perscribe meds and keep you chronically ill. I loved my jawzrsizer BUT It made my facial muscle bite way too strong... I grind my teeth sometimes in my sleep and the jawzrsizer made my grinding of teeth quite dangerous so.... had to stop lol. My ex was a mouth breather. I back this stuff, I think training his jaw and training himself to nasally breath again could've helped the snoring and his face structure quite a lot. Crazy.
or when I involuntarily jaw clenched - once I did it and it and felt my teeth kinda crack... So yeah be careful with it! But it definitely worked in terms of facial structure.
@RespireOfficial TMJ, jaw & ear pain from overworked muscles. I'm a nose breather. I eat meats, veg & fruit-both crisp cooked & raw, whole grains & nuts. Believe me, I chew! Research natural allergy remedies. Examples: nettle tea, or celery juice. I had blocked nose many tines due to allergic rhinitis, and I noticed whenever I drank celery juice, the next morning my nose was not blocked as usual. I noticed this by accident 😂
It can even prevent a cold… I was having symptoms one night and scraped my tongue that night after brushing and then again in the morning after brushing and the symptoms went away

We find people with good teeth from ancient times, because those with wrong teeth died early. Almost everyone was dead very early back then. Before they turned 5. It was only the most amazingly healthy, smart and lucky people that grew to being adults. How come we always forget about it?!
@@sarahflynn5762I understand it doesn't make sense to you. Nothing to worry about. I mean that for everyone who died at age of 5 we don't know what their adult structure would have looked like
As a dental hygienist, the fact we are living longer than ever with much different circumstances means we can look at things differently too. Prevention of problems wasn’t an option back then as our survival was more critical than dental care - and our lifespan was 30-40 at best. It’s like comparing apples to oranges honestly
@@jamiep4644: because it’s all about dental care and has nothing to do with the nutritional building blocks? Many factors have increased lifespan…unfortunately, health span, has in recent years, been rolling backwards…
You're discussing mewing. Between bone loss and a narrowing dental arch, it all contributes to this. But what about people who have dentures? They don't have the ability to chew on tough meat or bite into hard fruit, nor can they use the rubber device for mewing. Combine bone loss with muscle laxity, what are their options?
I was in a car accident at 27, I lost a lot of my teeth, I had to have a partial denture. Six months ago at 42 the top on my mouth had to be bone grafted. It is painful.
@@show_me_your_kitties I understand. It sounds like you have a partial plate. I've had bone grafts done in my upper jaw as well. They used cadaver bone. I've had bone grafts done in my spine and they took bone from my hip. That was incredibly painful. Is that what you're talking about? Did they take bone from another part of your body? Because yes, that's incredibly painful!
I have a slightly deviated septum. My dad had surgery on his nose when he was about 40-42. I remember the bandages on his face. I’m thinking I should get it looked at. I know I have snoring and some sleep apnea issues.
I was born with a cleft palate and cleft lip. I have been a mouth breather since birth. Could being born without a cleft lip and having the ability to nose breath make me more attractive? Sure, but I am NOT ugly, and I am athletic. I'm sure that breathing through my nose would give me an even greater advantage in running and other athletics. However, I had no choice but to adapt to what I was born with, and I could always outperform my peers. Your research is not definitive.
The “WATER PIK”…is better than Flossing.. Water Pik Always Before Brushing.. At least once a day and night time before bed is best Use a Electric Toothbrush.. Oral B Sonicare Go to the dentist a minimum (2) times per year for cleanings and after age (40-50) up to (3 to 4) times per year.. you won’t need “ X-rays” every year, unless you are inclined to decay.. But use the Water Pik and your oral health will change drastically ‼️ People with Braces/ Orthotics MUST get their teeth cleaned **4** times per year‼️ I wish Orthodontist would have their own Hygienist ‼️‼️‼️ If they are truly concerned about their patients oral health they should…. Next one will be about nofap
That seems shitty
I wish my mom sent me this when i was 12, i only found out about it when i was 20 and by then the bones have already grown and strengthened
LMAO. I’m crying laughing…. Sorry dude. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are there any peer reviews studies to prove most of what the panelist are talking about?
It's a structural issue. Theyre suffocating in sleep because of underdeveloped upper palates. Often, dentists with remove teeth due to overcrowding (?!?!) and retract into the spaces, impinging on breathing.
So, what do you do if you can't breath through your nose?
Accept your fate.
Die😂😂 😂 made me laugh your question..😂
I highly recommend you take one capsule of omega 3 FISH OIL daily and experience a miracle. Just check out its benefits on UA-cam and Google.
Research Westin Price (Nourishing diet) and Dr. John Mew ( Orthotropics).
It was discovered two years or so that our brains have enlarged over the last 1000 yrs which in turn has pushed our teeth forward, causing more crooked teeth. Paraphrasing from book Breath by James Nastor. Maybe this is contributing to loss of teeth as well.
Interesting!
I learned that our teeth deformity was due to poor nutrition.
There is a book about with lots of pictures that a dentist wrote. Sorry, I can't remember the name.
I learned that our jaws have become smaller from evolution due to the fact that we eat less meat and eat a more varied diet causing some meat cheering specific molars to become obsolete.
so is clenching your jaw good or bad to do?
This is the most relaxed I've ever seen Huberman. What did these kids do to him?
This is true and I have pictures that prove it. I got braces to fix my crooked teeth and 4 extractions.
I thought my face was gonna lose it's shape but it actually became more defined after I started breathing through my nose and fix tongue posture.
Even after extractions ?
@@MohamedAnis-i1e Yeah.
One does not need to necessarily chew meat to have a nice jaw line, eating any kind of whole foods can help with this.
I always tell young people, enjoy your youth while it lasts because it won't.
@@lastfirst78 What's wrong with enjoying life at every age? Enjoy you toddlers while they're toddlers because that time won't last, for example.
Don't let anyone fool you! It is a normal and sensible thing, to apply conscientious effort in looking your best; not perfect, but your reasonable best. What do you gain from neurotically trying to look and appear in an unflattering version of yourself?
Yeah whatever lady
i love how none of these nerds give credit to weston a price for being the pioneer of this entire topic & the western DIET - not mouth breathing - because the cause of this finding. so fucking annoying I keep hearing this over and over and nobody mentions him
Well thank you for mentioning him. I’m going down the rabbit hole now 😊
Here's how guys can boost their atractiveness:Become clean and hard working and STOP BOSSING PEOPLE AROUND.
Why am I still ugly if I am breathing through my nose all my life already?
Lol!! Awe you’re not ugly. Don’t look at yourself like that because I promise that someone else can look at you and see someone who looks good 😎
We're all a little ugly in our own eyes . But to right people and the people who are genuine to you they will see your beauty x
Cz you Just don't like ur face
😂omg
If you wouldn't do it ,you would be uglier.
I’m interested how this relates to people with TMJ or jaw issues…I eat softer foods because my jaw often hurts and I’m sure I’m not the only one!
I ended up getting a mouth guard to wear at night. It helps.
i also wonder if these exercises are good or bad for TMJers.
Bad
The way Huberman dodges the question of "what are people ingesting that make them lose their teeth now? In comparison to some of our American dead presidents with all wooden teeth and say a caveman who has perfect teeth.."
He is so smooth with the transition of "yeah, flossing is so important because of heart health.
What is your point man
Yeah, you kinda dropped the ball here. We can see where you're going, but then you just lose track.
Lmao. Well, like dentists always say, avoid drinking soda and fruit juices. They are high in sugar and acidity.
Their bones were way stronger than ours
why were their bones stronger? does it have something to do with their diet?@@calimero1868
There's also a "nutritional factor' such as "essential Minerals, Vitamins and Enzyme deficiencies contributing to the Integrity of muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments etc. Birth defects and most diseases can be prevented with consistent use. Thanks Andrew, you are a great speaker! From B.C. Canada.
train yourself to breath through your nose while running. it will be difficult in the beginning but it will help thats my experience
The face will still lose collagen though as we age wont it? That's also a deciding factor
Take in collagen
Yes the tooth infection travels to your heart. Septic can kill you. I worked in a heart hospital for years. Before surgery I’d say at least 5% of patients had a tooth or two pulled. Infection to the heart risk.
Also I did try that mouth thing you bite on! Definitely feel the muscles working. I stopped bc I thought I’d break my teeth!
God bless
my boy huberman going mainstream!
Wow! I had no idea about this but I naturally always breathed through my nose and am a slow eater as I really chew my food thoroughly. I never had braces or wisdom teeth removed and have perfectly straight teeth, and also have very good facial structure. I always thought facial structure was genetic as my whole family have nice facial structure. Interesting to hear about the jaw exerciser…
The anchor has worst body language m he is sitting leg on leg and pointing feet to the sir, such a respectful person.
Everyone are sitting with good manners. Except this one.
Also, his mouth was agape almost the whole time!
Thanks for this info. I nose breath during the day but i have sleep apnea at night as i mouth breath... So i Will try this Technic tonight.
My jaw shifted forward in my 40’s. I went from a tiny overbite to an underbite! Why? Will it go back? I am a nose breather. I remember tmj started first. It’s a mystery why.
You're extremely beautiful want to go out for coffee sometime
@@sayedalazam4228probably not, I think she just wants to get her question answered .
As someone with tmj also, I think it could be related to the fact that our jaw causes aches and pains as well as clicks and makes noises which can cause us to baby it and not work it out the way that this man is suggesting is best
Could be wisdom teeth? My lower ones don’t quite fit so when it gets the gum around it bit sore i tend to get underbite.
All of this was discovered almost 100 years ago by Weston Price.
And until this day no doctors and no teacher will ever educate you on thus but instead perscribe meds and keep you chronically ill. I hope you can go out there abd spreading the helpful information instead of lecturing here. Tell it to everyone, we are not aware of the basics how to be healthy in this toxic society that keeps us addicted, sick and depressed ✊🏻
@@8Freakish8 So true!
I had braces Bc I bit my fingernails as a kid before I had my adult teeth. I developed that habit because I was anxious coming home…. At 5 years old.
all i have to do to impress andrew huberman is brush after lunch. this seems like an achievable goal. and its good for me! lol
@RespireOfficial
TMJ, jaw & ear pain from overworked muscles. I'm a nose breather. I eat meats, veg & fruit-both crisp cooked & raw, whole grains & nuts. Believe me, I chew! My jaw gets exercised sufficiently. If what you state in this video is true, my facial structure should be badass! It's not. I've actually been told NOT to chew gum which I did a lot. I would LOVE an explanation. Seriously.
Love he mentions Laird …his wife Gabby has the same structure just beautiful
Dr. Weston Price is a great resource.
I would say smiling.
Mewing does work for sure
Yes, save some money and eat a big, crunchy salad!! Avoid foods, like dairy, that block your sinuses.
Thank you, it was indeed useful
WOW!! Unbelievable...but so very true.
Read Breath by James Nestor - best book ever
I've seen this man in many videos, he has a doctorate I believe but I just can't take anything he says seriously because he's ridiculously handsome. I want my intellectuals to be normal
Ikr I can’t concentrate when watching Daddy Huberman cause of my constant raging boner…
So chewing on hard food gives you better jaw structure? Or avoid hard food?
Chew hard food. Better yet, chew gum for an hour a day
Total nonsense , your jaw is your jaw .. just like your big toes nose or IQ
WOW😮
THANKS 4 THE ADVICE
I have allergies and my nose is always blocked so I mouth breathe. If I taped my mouth I’d suffocate 😒
In this case, you may want to consult with your doctor before taping your mouth shut. Great point.
Research natural allergy remedies. Examples: nettle tea, or celery juice. I had blocked nose many tines due to allergic rhinitis, and I noticed whenever I drank celery juice, the next morning my nose was not blocked as usual. I noticed this by accident 😂
Same here!

I want to know how this works with a deviated septum and a somewhat collapsed nasal passage! Oh yeah and polyps! Lol
Just beautiful 👏🏻
Everyone forgets to mention: brush/clean your tongue 👅!! As much as you clean your teeth.
(45 and never had a single decay)
It can even prevent a cold… I was having symptoms one night and scraped my tongue that night after brushing and then again in the morning after brushing and the symptoms went away
Dear Andrew, regarding the discussion im mimute six, and most of the video it is essential to read the book nutrition amd physical degwneration by Weston A Price. Best. B
what about the people who have a deviated septum? bcs it makes it hard to breathe through the nose
Been using the mouth tape for 2 years it’s been great however I see no progress when I don’t use it, just wondering how long you should use mouth tape until you don’t have to
Too bad I have a deviated septum and feel congested 90% of the time. This forces me to breathe from my mouth.
Love this
We find people with good teeth from ancient times, because those with wrong teeth died early. Almost everyone was dead very early back then. Before they turned 5. It was only the most amazingly healthy, smart and lucky people that grew to being adults. How come we always forget about it?!
They all died eventually... This comment doesn't make sense
It’s like comparing apples to oranges honestly
never heard someone died before the age of 5 because of bad teeth no logic.
@@jamiep4644: because it’s all about dental care and has nothing to do with the nutritional building blocks? Many factors have increased lifespan…unfortunately, health span, has in recent years, been rolling backwards…

Weston A. Price researched and wrote all about this. Interesting
Mastic gum! That’s a jaw workout!!!! It’s great to stimulate salvia production too!
The exception doesnt make the rule
How is it not definitive ? I fail to see what he's missing
No one said you were ugly
The “WATER PIK”…is better than Flossing..
Water Pik Always Before Brushing..
At least once a day and night time before bed is best
Use a Electric Toothbrush..
Oral B
Sonicare
Go to the dentist a minimum (2) times per year for cleanings and after age (40-50) up to (3 to 4) times per year.. you won’t need “ X-rays” every year, unless you are inclined to decay..
But use the Water Pik and your oral health will change drastically ‼️
People with Braces/ Orthotics MUST get their teeth cleaned **4** times per year‼️
I wish Orthodontist would have their own Hygienist ‼️‼️‼️
If they are truly concerned about their patients oral health they should…. Your not competing with the general dentist. Your working WITH the dentist ‼️
Ok Listening. Thank You Blessings Professor 😊😊😊

I would much appreciate it if someone can answer this quickly: does smoking cigarette or any form of amoking counts as mouth breather?
My father was a Fanatic about breathing thru your nose.
Most people that mouth breathe have a medical condition.... slerp apnea, deviated septum, enlarged adenoids and tonsils. It's not a switch you can just turn off.
Will hard food hard on enamel as well?
I luckily am addicted to shewing gum and people tell me all the times how attractive I am
Waiting for them to say it: Dr Mew…orthotropic treatment, he has been teaching this for decades
