In this ep, Rhett and Zach sit down with "Danish Pete" Honoré to talk NAMM highlights, geek out on Pete's new Chapman T-style signature guitar-it has a neck profile based on a 3D scan of his favorite-and discuss maintaining integrity in gear review videos.
One of the best parts of NAMM is the industry community it assembles, and in the absence of the full-fledged convention the past few years, that sure has been missed.
Danish Pete's puckish personality adds to the fun as the three guys get into other topics like Zounds Industries' acquirement of Marshall, various amp favorites, and the sea of purple guitars found at the convention. That's all after Pete shares that he no longer cries in the shower over the demands of his 25-year touring career (sometimes, he wishes he played more non-diatonic notes). Stay positive, Pete!

Glad to hear Zack and Mythos will take a chance on NAMM next year! My first show as a guest or "attendee" was in 2019... it was a great show with Gibson back out... and then that thing happened in 2020. Not only did NAMM change forever, but the world and most of retail changed, too! I think it's going to be different, but better in many ways... the smaller makers, creators, musicians and home studio guys with channels like mine can share what's at NAMM with the rest of the world. UA-camr's subscribers buy the gear being shown there, gear they don't usually see at stores... so, is it really that big a deal Gibson, Fender and PRS weren't there when you can see their gear at stores anyway? I think it was a great NAMM and l'm looking forward to more next year! The excitement was definitely back and at NAMM this year... and the channel viewers get to see gear they'll probably never see anywhere in stores... like the T-Rex Binson Echo Rec... up close and even some tones, irregardless of the NAMM noise.

This is why Pete is the man! He gives such an honest and genuine delivery of who he is, or at least it seems that way to me. The fact that he says the ugly and honest details we can believe him when he praises other things. He's also funny and charming which doesn't hurt but I really appreciate his honesty, like there's nothing wrong with saying you're doing something because it's financially beneficial, and anyone who doesn't talk about that stuff to me seems like they're hiding something. We shouldn't want people to do things just for altruistic reasons, we should respect a healthy 50% margin on a lot of things as fair. When we respect the creators in that way then they don't have to worry about cutting corners and are free to be creative. Honesty is the key to building lasting relationships. Pete and obviously you guys too, have done an excellent job at being honest at times to a fault and I'm sure your audience as a whole is drawn to that about you. Great interview, outstanding all around gents!

I think it’s pretty easy to tell when Pete digs something. He’s polite if he doesn’t get on with it, but he’ll say it. I wanted a sunburst Riviera for years and then the video him and Rabea did on the Casino and Riv came out. It was clear they were good, bought one immediately.

Great talk. One thing that I quickly learned during the year I tried doing pedal videos - if you say good thing about something, no matter how objectively bad it is, most people are OK with it. If you say something bad about something, no matter how objectively bad the product is, and you are calling someone's favorite child ugly. I will disagree with Rhett a little, though. I know that some people will only talk about products that they like, but I think it's a much more valuable service to tell people "I don't like this" every once in a while. Besides, I don't think a reviewer's opinion is valuable unless you have both positive and negative opinions from that person to compare.

Great, genuine people are always appealing. That's life as well as UA-cam or sales, etc. Pete is a great, honest guy. Of course he's fun, but he isn't exhaustingly self promoting or slathering on schtick. Zach uses the word, "integrity". That's it. As for pedals, some slots on my own board can be a little like a hot seat; pedals come on and off. Some stay, including the Kingsley Jester, Broadcast, Cali76 and Pet's "The Dane". Both sides sound great across all my guitars and into both of my very different amps. (Mjolnir recently made its own spot.) Integrity just must win in the end.
Zack could lighten up a bit. Amazing how much a sense of humour can attract business.

I have seen the same issues with other shows, like Macworld User Conference (Now defunked).
UA-cam is soooo much better than TV. I was not paid to say that.
Having a booth is really expensive. I've never exhibited at NAMM but at other shows and there's so much expense involved. Hidden expenses too.

Regarding brands paying UA-camrs for reviews, i agree it’s a bad look on the product and the brands, as well as decreases the perceived integrity of the UA-cam creators. Good word Rhett
As a UA-camr myself, I think it's pretty easy to be honest with the audience and say "I was sent this product, I'll do my best not to let that influence me, here's what I think." If you get send a garbage product, you just don't do a video and let the company know why.

Interesting 3 super different characters. Pete is a winner, human, natural and real. Rhett - super pro yet humble and real. Then there's Zach who came as pretty snobish businessman :) interesting to watch

I wonder, if I ordered a Dipped in Tone tee-shirt, would they send it to me? I only ask because I ordered a "Let's Start at 12" tee shirt from the Danish Pete store and although they have my money they've never sent the tee shirt. The store's email keeps coming back to me as invalid, I even wrote to Anderton's and although they said they would help me I'm still sitting here without a shirt, and without the money which they converted to pounds and kept. I suppose he used it to help pay for the flight to NAMM so he could make this video.

I wonder why NAMM wouldn't consist of trailers..or semi-trailers with built in sound proofed booths featuring different companies and products. Solves the noise issue. Each company has their own literal rolling "booth" that gets hauled in.

With the advent of on line sales, who is buying online? Individuals , it’s not like NAMM shows of old where chains and Mom and Pops are looking to stock there stores with the latest.
It was a good interview but the wraparounds were for a different interview. Something weird and unexplained happened here.
