Just a follow up on this (many) years old video. - I got two more of these after this video and neither worked as well as this one. I honestly think I just got lucky and wouldn't recommend it over cheaper options. I still use it today but I got rid of the other two. I hope that helps. It doesn't mean they didn't work, they did. But not as well. Just wanted to drop this in.

I am buying this mainly for one of the reasons you said, my Oscar got some serious burn on the side because of staying next to the heater. Thanks for the review.
PkDz I know this is an old video, but the reason your Oscar got burned is because your water temperature was to low and the fish was hugging the heater to keep from freezing to death. You should always have/ check your water temp with an accurate thermometer.
Im setting up a 75 gallon tank and want to know if I should get one heater rated for the size of my tank or two heaters rated for half the size of my tank. Ive heard plenty of horror stories where the heater fails in the middle of the night and the fish go into shock. I was wondering if having two working would be a good idea.
Did you ever come across a heater like a large square wooden case that the tank stands on? There was one at my school in the Science Lab and it was so weird. You turned a knob at the front to change the heat setting, and it was slow! I was trying to find a picture of those ancient heaters, but no luck so far. How times have changed : )
Nice review. Definitely a lot of nice features. Only thing that worries me, is more things to go wrong. I kind of like the KISS method myself. But I think plastic shell of some kind is a must. Keep up the good work.
HI there thanks for the review I got mine today e300 but when I set it to 30 degree now more than five hours did not reach 30 degree c so I reset it to 32 degree and after 30 mints it is raised to 30 C so is this problem with my heater or it is always like that have to set it 1 or 2 degree higher... Please advise . Thank you
What about the LF code and the demand for high flow with this heater? I'm planning on using this in a 20H with an Eheim 2213 classic canister paired with a ATI LvL2 sponge filter. Will the unit remember temperature settings and calibrations? It will be plugged into an Inkbird ITC-308.
@pecktec Thanks for your informative videos. New fishowner here (Betta) and already made tons of (costly) mistakes. Bought a 1 gall bowl, decided it was too small, then bought a 12" cube, Hubby doesn't like it and I think the reflection from the glass is making our Betta flare a lot. As a result of your Fluval Edge 6 gallon vid, we now want one of those! Love this heater u just reviewed and I know it's too long for the 6 gall, can you place it diagonally?
You can place it diagonally. But you may want a smaller one for the six gallon. I can tell you also the 12 gallon edge seems to be a lot easier to keep than the six.
How do you think it compares to the Chinese ceramic 1000W+ heaters? They just shut off when the water gets too hot instead of cooking your fish and turning red telling you it is doing this (usually when you are away).
The snark is palatable but unnecessary. This also turns off but the color indicator lets you know its getting warm. There are other things besides the heater that can make your water warm or cold ( like during a water change) and its an indicator for that as well. That being said I got two more of these after this video and neither worked as well as this one. I honestly think I just got lucky and wouldn't recommend it over cheaper options. I still use it today but I got rid of the other two.
Thank you for your reply. I do not use bulb heaters only Eheim integrated. One which killed my fish whilst I was away. (Dovii) During a water change I switch everything off which should have negated this. ON or OFF is bad for a life expectancy for a convectional heater.
@@pecktec Well I just bought two 300 watts of these after my Chinese 1000 watt died after a couple of months. Maybe I was unlucky and I think it was the Chinese to UK adaptor plug, because they trust them in their Arowana tanks. My Eheim 1200 XLT died shortly after and then I got a strange bacterial problem that is wiping out the 220 gallon tank as we speak. My response to this is to maybe go for a Golden Cobra Snakehead with full planting that does not care about heaters breaking of filters stopping. Should be a lot less stress! AM I WRONG?? LOL. Been keeping fish all my adult life.
I own the Fluval e series 100 watts i have it set 78 it was solid green llast night today it was solid blue at 74 now its at 73.5 is this normal ?? its not flashing blue should i get temp controller for this heater
Hi can you do a video where you place the heater in the fluval tank correctly? I'm confused as of where it should stand, too low or two deep are my doubts in regards of this particular heater Thank you
sasha billie Well the most important thing is that it is in a place the has good flow over the heater. vertically seems to work best. I normally submerge it near an intake of the filter.
Thanks for this video! I just picked up a used 30 gallon tank that has a Fluvaaaal heater in it and I have never had one, so the review you did helped me a lot to understand its operation features. I'll google the heaters for a manual in a second. Anyhow, always love your videos but haven't watched all of them yet, apparently. I hope you keep making them! :)
how long it would take to set the time in fluval heater. I set up 27 degree Celsius, then it gone down to 21 and blue light is blinking . sometime it shows LF and 24 degree celsius. randomly. is it okay ?
And what's the ideal temperature for a fluval edge 6 gallon? Mine is at 24 C and it's in blue which means it's too cold. But what the right warm temperature to set up? I have not a clue Thank you for your valuable help ;)
Nice video! So I've had my fluvale edge 12g for about over a month now. It was doing well in the beginning, I started off with 3 fish (2 tetras/ gold molly) and a few ghost shrimp. The other day I added a (pleco/ retail shark/ red swordtail/ cherry barb/ 2 damanatian mollies/ and 2 japanese algae shrimp). Everything seemed fine they all got along. The next morning I noticed one of my mollies and algae shrimp died. Now it seems like all the fish just stay at the opening of the tank. Do you know why that is? I checked the pH and ammonia levels and everything is normal, I even did a 10 percent water change.. Do you have any advice?
Yea sound like to much of a bio load. Also so of those fish you mentioned get really really big. Did you go through the whole Nitrogen cycle? Even if you do you still need to add fish slowly. Really any tank under 30 gallons id a delicate balancing act. Fish at the surface normally means they cant breath well so they come to the top where there is more oxygen.
You're very lucky, others can't see the temp because it's constantly showing LF. The "not heating" part is a standard feature on these heaters. The internal temperature sensor is too close to the heating element, so it thinks your water is too hot and stops heating. A minute later is cools down and starts again, some seconds later the sensor is heated again, and so on. So it doesn't matter if you set it to 25oC (77oF) or 30oC (86oF), it will always think that your water is heated, while only the sensor is actually heated. Try removing the guard, or placing it in front of your water filter outlet, or returning it.
That's a great heater and all but will never go back to those heaters again when it can use a hydor external heater ,never see a ugly and bulky heater in the tank again.
These are the most temperamental and unreliable heaters I’ve ever bought. They just can’t maintain a set temperature. Just take a look at the forums and Amazon reviews- even a $10 budget Chinese heater would work better than these.
@@Jorven-w1z i’m actually surprised these are still around. I had one that worked great. The other one didn’t work so great. but then they sort of disappeared from retail and I assumed they were all gone.

If I'm able, I use two heaters of appropriate size ,in case one fails. I also notice them being on less ,if that helps.

What size do you use in your Edge
Any suggestions for a fluval heater to pair with a 15g flex? Hard to know what’s best between the e50 m50 and p50

Good review. I am starting to like the inline heaters lately, for larger tanks of course :)
My fluval has been showing the LF message, I dont know if its starting to fail because its being in the same spot since the beginning.
I'd like to know if this fits in the Fluval Flex series tanks.
Best Review i saw so far, about this heater, i'm waiting mine, Nice one friend ;)
Thanks!
Hey Shaun you don't have this heater in your Amazon store?

sasha billie that mostly depends on the fish you keep. google up a care sheet for the fish you have. Most do ok around 75 degrees F.

Sorry for all the dang typos!
Hi, for a 5g should I get a 50w or a 100w? I have heard the unit its quite big and with a small aquarium I have very limited space!… Thank you
Claudia Penaranda a 20/25w is more than enough for a 5g
Can we use this heater horizontally for our water turtle tank? The water level is only 6.5" in our aquarium.
