    I have a 150 watt Eheim running for 4 years on my 46 bowfront. It’s a solid work horse……I agree with your comments on the economics. This has lasted twice as long as the brand I had previous. In essence the Eheim has paid for itself.

    Ever since I've started running sponge filters on my tanks, I like having my heaters towards the bottom of the tank sideways. Now I can do water water changes and leave everything running. No messing with power strips or having to unplug anything. It's really nice when doing tank maintenance on multiple tanks in one day.

    some heaters temp gauge are at the top that's why its usually recommended to have the heater at an angle or horizontal due to heat rising and possibly giving the wrong temp reading because the heater is set vertically.

    Excellent point about the heater calibration ring. To get my 75 gallon mbuna tank at 77-78°F, I need to turn down my Eheim heater to around 73. Once it's dialed in, the water temp stays 77.5-77.8.

    I believed the calibration radial serves a different purpose than you described (in a good way)! If one puts a given sized heater in a tank slightly larger/ smaller than the explicit listed size, the resulting temperature will differ from the blue radial. That's where the red "calibration" radial comes into play as an amazing feature. You can mark a given +/- as long as you know the ultimate result in the specific tank the heater is in. It's awesome. Eheim provides quality that should be viewed by every other company as a standard needing to be met.

    • @raziel8321
      @raziel8321 Рік тому +1

      The size of the aquarium has no effect. temperature is temperature. No matter how many W a heater has, or how many liters a tank. The internal control ensures the set temperature and heats until it is reached. However, measuring the temperature can be inaccurate, especially with heaters with such simple technology as the eheim. Wrong measurement is pretty much standard. That's why you can use the ring to shift the scale to compensate for the wrong measurement.

    • @ranger178
      @ranger178 Рік тому

      the thermostat inside wears over time so you can adjust the dial to set what temp is your tank gets to and depending on location of heater in tank and position it can vary so you can set it to what your tank achieves.

    I can’t agree more. Skip the calibration, and just gradually dial up or down the temperature setting, in conjunction with a separate thermometer. I always though reading a tank thermometer should be considered along the same lines, as watching a temperature gauge on a car.

    I've been quite impressed with the new Eheim Thermocontrol-e series heater. It’s very similar in appearance and operation to the Eheim Jager heaters you’re using now, but it’s electronically controlled for greater accuracy than the bimetallic thermostat in the older model.
    On the USA version, the dial is only marked at 68, 72, 75, 79, 82, 86, and 90 degrees Fahrenheit (corresponding to 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, and 32 Celsius), so it takes some trial and error to get it exactly where you want, but once you do, it maintains the set temperature very accurately. Testing with a high-quality Thermapen kitchen thermometer, I’ve found it to maintain temperature at +/- 0.3 degrees Fahrenheit, which is better than advertised.
    It has a single LED on the front that is red when the unit is actively heating, and green when the set temperature has been reached. It’s fairly unobtrusive.
    The USA version comes in nine sizes, from 25 to 300 watts (the Euro versions go up to 400 watts).
    They’re still hard to find, so the price might be artificially a bit high, but I recommend it over the older unit.

    Have been using the Eheim heaters for two years now.
    Also always had Juwel heaters, honestly I think the juwel heaters cost less to run.
    They both the same watt usage but the Juwel heater heats the water faster.

    • @PakPhotog
      @PakPhotog 2 роки тому

      The amount of energy to heat your tank some number of degrees uses the same amount of energy regardless of what wattage heater you use. Higher wattage heaters will just get there a little faster (one if your Juwels is likely a bit higher in actually wattage than the other). So for the same size tanks and in the same conditions (same ambient temp, same tank dimensions tank, both made of the same material, etc.) the cost to heat them will be the same even if one heater gets to temp a little faster than the other.

    Sadly I cannot say the same about the Ehiem Thermopreset heaters. I haven't had much luck with the Ehiem heaters at all. I have had 2 go bad inside a year. Both went out with the same faults. I had the 150w heaters rated for 200-300l installed on a 200l aquarium. The temp reached 27c and the heaters wouldn't shut off. These heaters are preset to 25c so I assume should shut off at 25.5c and back on at 24.5c, or close to those temps 🤔

    I had issues with the first heater from eheim I bought, they replaced it easily and quickly. Second one is working flawless, things I have found out, if temp is at 80 and I want to lower it to 79, can't just turn it down one click and wait to see if it lowers, it didn't, temp actually went up. What I figured out is I look at where its set, say its at 80 on dial, I have to turn it way lower, down into the 60s and then turn it pack to desired setting of 79 and it works perfectly. If I don't do it this way, temp will not budge or even go higher then before.

    got 4 of them going strong, 25w in the 5 gallon, 75w in the fluval flex and the 20 long and 125w in the 40gal breeder, all hooked to external inkbird thermostat. They're reliable, but the inkbird gives me a second layer of security! In the unliekly event that the eheims would get stuck, the inkbirds will shut down the electricty supply when the water reaches a temp threshold (I set it to 76-79F, with shut down threshold of 82F), and it will even sound a loud alarm to alert you the water is overheating! It will also alert you of cold water threshold in case the heater does not turn on (my cold water threshold/alarm is at 73F) Everyone should have an inkbird, especially if they have lesser heaters.

    I don’t trust the heater temperature either. I got 2 heaters in my 110 gallon tank. I just bought a new Eheim 300w and I have another 250w . The new Eheim was already set at 78 degrees. And I checked the temperature with outside temperature gauge it was almost 83 degrees. What is the */- with Eheim heater and what should I set it at. I know you have to also consider your room temperature too

      The best way to do that is to get a separate thermometer that controls them both and turns them on and off at the same time. Short of that you want to try and have them set to the same temps.

    Temp is up to 10 degrees off. So it reads 72 but heats to 82. This happened to a couole of my 3 yr old heaters. Needless to say i cooked some of my fish because the thermometer also was defective. Im so dissapointed because they can only be caliberated 4 degrees in either direction. Ive bought 7 heaters in the past yr. Only 2 could be caliberated. The others were so off i couldnt trust them.

    Great Review. I am starting to look for a heater for my recent addition of this 55G Aquarium as a room-divider in my living space.
    I just picked up this used Eheim 125W. I misread the post. I saw 50 and thought that it was a 50W, but instead it is for 40G to 53G. I do have an adjustable that I recently bought to heat up the change water before using. I'll use the one that I have been using to warm up the change-water for a 20G Long that I will be setting up next to move my Betta and his Clean-up Crew into. Being that I still need a heater for this 55G, what size should I get? The box says 150W for the 55G. I read that some say that I should get a 200W, and some say 250W to 300W.
    I admit, being new, I am confused on what to buy.
    Thanks in advance
    Much Appreciated.

      Are you sure? No heater last 5+ years the company’s that make these will tell you to throw those hazards out, buy new ones every year. Make sure you have a backup Along with this heater. I’ve used 20 heater brands In the last 15years of fish keeping. All heater loose power and don’t heat up as much, or will get stuck on. No heater is invincible stop spreading miss information with this claim you have made about your heaters. I bet if I check your tank you will be fluctuating temp and you don’t even know it. Use a digital thermometer 🌡 not glass or a temp gun. Only to verify your digital reading use glass or temp gun to verify that number: also your tanks are colder in the winter so your heaters are running 2x in the winter. So think about what your saying and that kids look to this channel for accurate information not misleading claims.

    Hey @Prime Time Aquatics. I just bought 3 new eheims as I was tired of the cheap preset heaters. I used your method of just turning the blue dial instead of trying to calibrate it. I found one of them was off by several degrees so far. It was set to 79 and had heated past 81 degrees and was still on. So I turned the temp back until the heater cut off and it didn't cut off until I got to 68. As long as it mantains around 80 I'll be fine with it. Just wondering if this is the norm for these heaters? The other two seem to be off by a few degrees but not nearly as far as that one.

I'd just done a water change a few hours ago & it was around 77F. Came home from a movie date with hubby & saw that it had gone up to 80F. I can't have this happen, especially with this tank, it contains my white cloud minnows, a betta & some otos. This isn't the first Eheim heater that has been like this. Meanwhile, my Fluval in my other tank is consistent in keeping my tank at 77F.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics

      If it has a light that turns on when it is heating I would start by setting it to that number. Once the tank temp has stabilized after 24 hours you can gradually turn it up until you hit the desired temp. That is essentially what I do on any adjustable heater since I don't rely on the temp settings the heater indicates.
