Very good info, didn't think it was possible to germinate in 2 days. I hate the wind too. It comes from working at sea for 45 years
A complete guide to a new lawn, great information and thanks for sharing.
Another great video. Keep up the great work & don’t get disheartened 👍🏻
Hi just found you dug my old lawn up my old one seen better day set my new lawn by seed taken 4 days well seeded and great germination am a florist and gardener xx was great fun watching the grass comin through xx 😘 thinking of doing my back lawn now
"Hi just found you dug my old lawn..." He did?
cracking results Daniel! Thanks for sharing the hard work and knowledge with us.
That moon dust really made you moon walk!😂😂. Giggled to myself most of the way through this video. Great content! 👍👍🥦
I thought that wen i watched the vid whilst editing at the beginning it did look like the character out of hotel translyvania walking but just glides
Amazing results as per usual Danny bhoy 👍
This vid m8 is a great lesson in learning patience… Don’t know to thank you or what! In any event, keep getting along. Good day!

Your 3rd person to say this, what humour??? 😂😂 its a dead serious lawn channel 😂😂

@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Ha.. sorry, just having a laugh with the Karate kid reference!! 'Spreading the word', as in telling folks about your channel mate. And you worked the 'ATB' (all the best) out. Great videos you're banging out chief... keep them coming!!✌
I've seen this process described in old farming books for speeding the sprouting of wheat and barley. They piled it and raked it to monitor the moisture level.
You do have to plant AS SOON AS you start seeing a nub of sprout or you can lose the whole batch of seed.
It works well in the really dry parts of the USA, decreasing the amount of time you need to water many times a day.
I've been doing this for years. Never heard of Moon dust??? I Just dampen the seed mix it in with black dirt and Sand.., put it into a pile and cover it for a couple days minimum.. size depends on how big of an area I do..... I have used Up to 150 pounds of seeds in 2 yards of dirt for 1/2 acre lawns. I prep the area with sand and black dirt mixed well. Fertilize with milarginite... Then I use a good heavy duty broadcast spreader with a metal agitator to spin out the pre germinated mixture.... Spread it heavily as possible rake it in water it down and in three days it's popping up and looking green. But it's really not necessary to go through all that extra work unless you are trying to impress someone??? Because it only takes 7 days for the same thing to happen by just planting the fresh dry seeds in properly prepared ground.... When using fresh dry seed the number one tip I can give you for a beautiful long lasting low maintenance yard is by planting it with a blue bird slit seeder in a criss cross pattern. Use milarginite and keep the soil damp until you see green.....
Planting grass is much more satisfying than laying sod and it's the best lawn you will ever have...
this is fantastic. Im growing grass indoors for rabbits and guinea pigs and was looking for a faster way. Im going to add some of my free fertilizer (rabbit poo) lol.. I could watch /listen to you all day, how funny you are. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the kudos much appreciated
Thanks for the video!
I recommend using a small sheet of chip board as a tamping tool. I did it today and it made the lawn super flat. I did the march of penguins afterward for better compaction but wasnt really necessary
like a big snow shoe
What was the process like? you had one plywood board 2' x 2' stepped on it, moved over and stepped again? I was warned by others that compacting is not good for a new lawn because they saw me using a roller. I hate bumps!
Looks good I’m gonna try to find similar products
You’d be great in Lord of the Dance with that footwork
Pushing the envelope here. Love the humour with it.
What humour lol someone else said this but not sure what i do 😂
this is neat thank you!

Thanks glad you enjoying it,
What you like the most?
I like too see, seed sowing hacks and possibly repairing fertiliser scorched lawns . Cheers.
@@jasonhewlett1283 just water on the patches and it will come back youve killed the foliage not the toot
What is the purpose of the plastic sheet underneath the sand that is left there, does that interfere when heavy rains happen?
Also what type of grass do you usually use for all your clients?
Love the videos by the way !!!
you sir are a wizard
I you can mix wet seed with an organic or biological fertilizer like Milorganite. Mix it right together and the seeds sticks to the Milorganite and it will spread in a spreader.
Thanks for the video. Does it take longer for the seed to germinate without the "moon dust" or did you just add that to make the grass stronger and it will still germinate in the same timescale without it?
No you don't need moon dust if you have a properly prepared surface. Black dirt mixed with sand and milarginite only for fertilizer. If you pre germinate the seed it is green within three days. No need to cover it up with plastic unless it's going to rain hard but most people check the weather forecast before hand? But the pre germinated seeds can be more difficult to spread so you are better off if you are doing a larger area to properly prepare your ground and use fresh dry seed and a broadcast spreader or slit seeder... Keep the soil moist and it will give you the same results in seven days......
Smashing stuff
What sand do people recommend for lawns standard Mason sand or something else ?
One small step to a greener lawn
What does the moon dust do? Does it spike growth. And does the tarp help to create a greenhouse effect to help it sprout? Doesn't it need sunlight to entice it to grow.
Daniel - I soaked some blue coated seeds and the water is so thick with blue polymer along with any biostims that might be there. Can I use this liquid to apply out on the lawn?
Great video as always. Can you please let us know where you buy your fleece from please and how much it cost's.👍
Nice to see he was on cue at the beginning. Although if you use something else to stir it with, you'll be snookered. My Scottish friend enjoyed this video, he's Grasswegian. He once ruined someone's lawn by playing football on it. Nearly got away with it, but someone grassed him up. I'll stop with the jokes now, before I get turfed off.
Best video in a while! Im just confused on the March of penguins…why not use a water roller?
Coz you cant get the same compaction as the weight is spread over a bigger area, i wasnt wearing stilletos but there is a tonne of force at the tip when stood on so my heels can do more compacing than a heavy roller
With this kind of soil preparation even stone will germinate 😂
😂
Can you post a link to the Amazon fleeces ?
you can use whatever you want to stir it but I like a snooker que 😂😂
to much water at the start, probably should have soaked in the water for 2-3 days, then applied topsoil to it, leave it for another 2-3 days and then apply it to the lawn. I wonder if shade clothe can be used to cover the lawn instead of the plastic? still apply the blue tarp initially for warmth but then take the tarp off when green shoots appear but leave the shade clothe on to help protect the new lawn but also allow moisture through? I have a small strip of lawn to do (15m x 2.5m) so I'll try it, cheers mate
I've got a sieve, but it's not our best sieve - at best it's our second best one, and certainly not of the quality used to bake cakes with. Will this be OK?
What should be the temperature? If it’s too hot, it ruins the seeds
hello, great video, could you let me know the white sheet and the purple sheet you used , what are the names of them? and could you give me the amazon links thank you!!
Where do u get the yellow plastic bucket from
What are your views on levelling lutes vs landscape rakes for levelling the lawn?
I was using a landscaper rake so think that answers your question 👍🏻

Hi Daniel. Great video. Can I ask where you got your white grass netting from?
Unfortunately, there is no response
We never seen 👀 the final results 🤷♂️ for all the time ⏲ and care. Will they be a final video to see what it looks like?
i will be doing vids on this, this year , it wasnt about finished result this bid was about getting seed growing
For a fine/luxury seed, can I use a pool cue to stir the seed & hot water, or does it need to be a snooker cue?
Snooker cue works better i find
Yeah don’t forget to caulk the tip.😀
Yea but do they come I. Different sizes and how do you k ow what size to order
Ehat temperature should be water , and what is namr of the Icelandic dust volcano
Any suggestions for brand of snooker cue when it comes to mixing ?

Daniel do you do a video of installing the timber lawn edging as it looks much stronger than the usual edging? Richard
I havent richard its to tricky as so much to it that id be forever moving the camera and i not a trained joiner or anything so not sure i could cope with all the trained ones pulling my work to bits!
Ronnie O’Sullivan recommends stirring for five minutes eight seconds… 😅
Great video!!! Quick question what's the name of your hedge? It is beautiful very green! How high it grows, do you prune it often?
Pleached beech hedge i dont touch it
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thank you so much, keep up the good work Sir!!
Can you put sand in the germinated seeds to dry them. Also can I used sharp sand on my lawn.
I wouldnt use that on your lawn no its not suitable
Just let the seed dry naturally
over the past year I have done extensive reasearch on this subject and found that the snooker cue is integral, no spoons no sticks not even a pool cue works right, it has to be a snooker cue.
Exactly thats what my research let me to believe
Wish I would have watched this 2 weeks ago.
I live in Canada and wanted to know if I can start to overseed and fertilize my lawn now as my lawn is dormant in a few spots from the summer? My temperatures right now is around 25C during the day and 17C during the night? Also if the temperatures reach slightly higher than 25 in the day would they be a problem or would I just have to water a lot more during those more warmer days? I was planning on dethaching those dormant areas putting down some seeds and then Peet moss on top. With some Scott’s winter care lawn fertilizer either before or after the seeds. Please advise Thankyou In advance…
Those temps sound fine for me here but we have cool season grasses do you use warm season grasses?

Daniel have you considered using a landzie to spread the jacks magic? I have one which share between two the mates and it works quite well
Nar dont need one, like the graft
i seed by hand.soak it with the hose on fine,so it sticks, then throw dry kids sand over the top to cover the seed.i throw like im bowling.its up within 4 days and green.poking through on day 3...seed is alot better than it once was.thanks for bending me onto that mm50..cartoon grass lol
I hate the wind too, can’t garden in the wind. Good job done. Do you have a link to the fleece off Amazon?
Ruins my day
Asin code is B08NK1R46G
2:37 So you wrapped up the seed in the fleece and then just squeezed out the water, is that correct? Is there risk of harming the seeds with the pressure?
It grew ok so no probs
Hi. Where do you get the "magic" ingredient? Also. Would this technique work if I left seed in hot water for 8hrs, took out and squeezed any excess water then just scattered on the lawn and covered with horticultural sheeting. Obviously keeping it well watered? Thank you.
No it wouldnt work as the seed would be all stuck together it needs dry out back to how it was before you put it in,
Look up medwyns gold
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Brilliant. Thank you
Grandpa, how many seeds are left?
Great video. Where do get moon dust?
In the vid description
very good information, one question though....
when you say hot water ; should it be boiling hot ?
Nar just hot out the tap
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert perfect thank you
Seed to water ratio?
Why dont you use the roller on your mower to compact the soil?
well the front wheels would dig in no doubt and when you came to turn the roller would just kick up what youve just compacted and soil would get in the diff and damage the mower, plus i love the graft and the leg work out, you cant get the same compaction with a roller as it spreads the weight , there is more force being exerted in a heel in a smaller area than a heavy roller over a bigger one
Seems so much effort for a relatively small space. Turfs about £2.50 sq/m would be better if of thought?
I like to use a «snooker cue» 😅
Ehh, we deep rip our yards, then run the Harley rake over it, then drill our seed. Germination from opening the bag is 3 days and I’m in and out of an acre in 3-3 1/2 hours. No plastic tarp crap or soaking my seed. No straw either. Middle of summer. I just instruct my customers to water 3 times a day for 25-30 minutes per zone and done.
Good stuff
Three days my ass.... Everything else is accurate.
Would using hot water not mess with the enzymes in the seeds?
No as that like saying watering then out in the sun all day would ruin them plus you seen in this vid them actually sprout
What is the seed he's using?
Instead of the blue plastic why not just use the underneath white cloth? Why used the blue plastic that block all the sun?
Is the moon dust essential to this method or just a booster please?
Booster
I used a pool cue abject failure
Manure works also
When would start in spring ? March or April ?
April really but ill be starting mid march as have lots to do
See when you talk about the compost tea is this somthing you personal make?
Yeah i have a xl brewer and by the compost called revitalised from them to brew

Barenbrug

Its gotta be a pool cue for best results
Does stirring the seeds with a snooker cue appose to a normal stick have any bearing on the overall result/health of the lawn?
Absolutely its gotta be a kids snooker cue 😜😜

Fleece lining
And its worked a treat no worm casts

does it work with fescue seeds as they take ages to germinate?
Never tried
Works with fine fescue depending on ambient/water temperature.
what kind of seeds. what region or location are you seeding. i couldnt tell from description. cant tell by your accent
In England in Lancashire not far from Manchester, dwarf rye is the seed
Hi Daniel. I tried this out and it was a massive fail for me. Thankfully I only tried a cup full of seed. So not a big waste. I followed your instructions apart from the "magic" powder stuff. I was hoping it would work without. But so far... Zilch. This was about 8 days ago. So was expecting something to come through by now.
This video was in august so bit cold still at the minute
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I put the seed on a tray indoors. Lightly covered top and bottom with soil . Used the cold water from the previously boiled to water I soaked the seed in and have kept them moist with a gentle spray at least twice a day.
I've obviously cocked up somewhere along the way. But I thought keeping it indoors in moist soil would of had exactly the same effect as it being outdoors in warm weather? Oh well. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the prompt reply 👍

very amateurish, real pros use snooker cues. The very elite pro gardeners use a carbon fibre pole-vaulting pole, available at all good garden centres.
yep the weather forecasters get paid for not getting it right. sick of em .
How did you apply the seeds?
Sprinkled it like chicken feed thought id filmed it but hadnt pressed record
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert 😆 you have green fingers Daniel. Beautiful work. Best wishes.
It took several days to prepare it if you had just laid the seed down on the area you wanted grass to grow from the first day you soaked the seed in water, it would be coming through at around the same time naturally finished much quicker and cost less, it seemed a bit pointless to be honest.
The ground wasnt ready at that point so your comment is abit pointless
It was a CHALLENGE to see how fast he could sprout the lawn.
Also, it shortens the time the seed is lying unsprouted and vulnerable to wind, birds and other damage.

Another expert says the complete opposite. He says you have to rinse it every 12 hours and don’t pour the water you got rid of on the grass as it turns the grass yellow as it’s toxic. And you want to spray it back on your seeds?
