Only got into lawncare since I started watching your videos about 8mths ago, as I was so impressed with the lawns you do, I decided it is time to get my own lawns looking beautiful. I have been working on my back lawn all day today, and certainly feeling the aches and pains now. I have a manual cheap push along scarifier on wheels, that I push and pull using the long handle, hard work, would be so much easier with a petrol or electric one, but funny thing you mentioning yarrow, I found out today my back lawn is covered with it, it really is invasive, some of the roots are so deep, and then the rhizones spread right across my lawn. Started digging some of the deep roots up in places from the yarrow, but found some go down as deep as about 8". I plan on reseeding my back and front lawns, but worried now that when I do, this yarrow is going to come back, as there is no way I can get every root up. I sprayed the whole lawn with strong glyphosate concentrate also about a month ago (360g/l), it made the leaves of the yarrow go a little paler, but has done nothing to the deep roots. I honestly think this yarrow in lawns is a nightmare, my own fault for neglect over the years of just mowing it, and not acting back then to try and control it, and stop it spreading, so I would advise anyone that gets yarrow in their lawns, act quickly to get rid of it, if you dont, it will spread like crazy and be a nightmare to then try and dig up due to the length and depth of the roots😥

In 1988 I suffered a severe beating where both offenders were arrested for attempted murder. I thought I had put this all behind me until recently when I had what I would call a minor nervous breakdown which sadly led to other things. I was recently diagnosed with Complex PTSD as a result of the assault and this includes all manner of issues one of them being severe depression and in my case very poor memory retention. I love gardening and especially the care of lawns which you would not think if you looked at mine. It cheers me up and helps me relax, so when I get a reply like that you can imagine how much it sets me back. I have watched all your videos from start to finish and loved them all up till now, yours being my favourite channel. So again apologies for upsetting you and i will never bother you again.
Going to use my recently purchased Aldi scarifier, is it ok just to go straight on with it, or should I cut abit of grass height off first. Many thanks 👍
Hi Dan, I’ve reseeded my lawn 2 weeks ago. Some of the grass seeds are a good 3 inches high, some of still coming through. Should I cut the lawn? Or wait till all the seeds are fully grown? Thanks

Hi Dan I verti cut mine last week and granular fed after. It looked very much like this lawn - so did you put seed on ? Only I am concerned that some areas might not grow back 🙈

Why is it always recommended to go diagonal on the second scarify instead of perpendicular? I find perpendicular easier for my shape of lawn and I don't see how it could make any difference.

@@Chris-hw3yy all in jest mate dont take it to heart
Great channel just wondering why you don’t use a blower when clearing up after scarifying
Too heavy today so wouldnt of worked
Class as usual pal👌
Going to use my recently purchased Aldi scarifier, is it ok just to go straight on with it, or should I cut abit of grass height off first. Many thanks 👍
Cut grass first
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thank you 👍🏻
always a good laugh and im not even british :) 'i hope they let me go home one day' 🤣
Did you ever do a follow up video on this one?
No not yet going to do one soon
Hi Dan, I’ve reseeded my lawn 2 weeks ago. Some of the grass seeds are a good 3 inches high, some of still coming through. Should I cut the lawn? Or wait till all the seeds are fully grown? Thanks
Cut for sure , never let the grass that has come through suffer because the others ain’t come through
What’s happened to the Allett scarifier ?
Is the Autumn punch available on your website?
Is it worth power raking more frequently between scarifying?
Should I buy a power raker?
Is this irfan near the airport?
Is it bad to scarifier perpendicular to the previous pass? I notice you always go like a 45 degree instead of 90 degree
When mixing sand soil for leveling 70/30 is it by volume or weight?
Weight
If I did this to my lawn, could I change the grass type. Or would I need to do it a few times before it took over
In a lawn like this grass seed would never take over
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert if you scarified it alot harder could a new grass type be applied?
"Number 2" seems to be your favoured setting for the rotary. Do you reckon this setting gives the optimum height for most rye grass lawns?
At the beginning yes but you will always up on 3, they need a 2.5
Thanks. In your experience, are most lawn mower manufacturer's settings very similar? In other words, a 2 on a Hayter is equivalent to a 2 on a Honda or Mountfield etc?@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
@@Abbytaz1 god knows mate

Hi Dan. What nozzle do you use on you backpack sprayer?
Its a white flat fan, (DO NOT BUY OFF EBAY)
Thanks!
Hi Dan, love the info about the weeds. Out of interest why did you not cut first before scarifying would that not have made the scarifying more effective and easier to clean up?
Coz it was bit wet so would of clogged up the mower cutting it short to much bulk, it did cross my mind though
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert and that's why your the pro and I am a layman, thanks for the reply Dan!
@@gwarski normally your right i do but just not today
Question for you Dan, I have a bluebird aerator that has the option for delta blades. Can I use the delta blades in the middle of summer to pull out the old growth to let the lawn breath?
Did you see my segment on aeration?
Not familiar with delta blades? Are they like mine?
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert yes spaced about two and half centimetres apart and angled down like a triangle but without tip .
Will watch the aeration video.
@daniel have you got any barenburg extreme in stock yet?
Yeah its in mate
Hi Dan
I verti cut mine last week and granular fed after. It looked very much like this lawn - so did you put seed on ? Only I am concerned that some areas might not grow back 🙈
No i didnt in the end will see in a few week if i should of done but im convinced it will come back this year no problem
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert will it be watered ? If so how often ?
@@ianreader4919 just by rain, in the 20 seasons i been there it has never been watered with a hose
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert ok however I live in London and we have a long warm dry spell, so would you water ?
Dan . What happens if you use weedol lawn weed killer on your lawn more than once in a year
Nothing to the plants, its just not allowed as it bad for the ground
Do you sell the autumn punch as can’t see any on your shop?
Not yet middle of next week
I'm sure you say why in some of your videos but I am wondering why you don't cut the grass before scarifying?
Not that important on jobs like this it will get mowed once and thats enough ,
Very impressive memory that Dan lol
Ask me what i had for breakfast, useless lol
Was lesser trefoil one of the weeds on the 10 list?
No but 2 more have come to me since . clover . trifolium repens and greater plantain, plantago major

Well done with the long drive 👍🏻, you could have dropped your car it mine to walk down to the ground. Have a much deserved Holiday, enjoy 😎☀️🍹 🍺
Oh right didnt know you was that way? Pulled up at club car park with my mate in the van and said i was chief scout for bolton wanderers and he said to his colleague cheif scout bolton wanderers and he starts checking his sheets lol i couldnt keep straight face so had to come clean
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I live over the back ( behind the Arnold Clark garage, you most likely would have passed.
@@leefenton9477 yes we saw that as commented on it
Why is it always recommended to go diagonal on the second scarify instead of perpendicular? I find perpendicular easier for my shape of lawn and I don't see how it could make any difference.
Gwyn williams at mysercough said if you go square then you will get the lawn coming up , i guess a diamond has more surface area than a square? Maybe wrong?
I copied your scarifying techniques and did two passes. Couldn't believe what came out, and cant believe what is still in there.
Hi Dan, long time watcher. My new build lawn is full of clover patches…. Help!
Just need a weedkiller for lawns
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert did that, inhibits then comes back 😥 maybe being to restricted with how much, many thanks for the reply Sir!

I was right though wasnt i??
Omg yes. Absolutely crazy. Sellers who didn’t want to sell 😂😂😂😂
I'm always unsure how deep to scarify once the lawns established

Why do you not like aeration or don’t value it?
What is a caper Dan ?😂
Is it a caber? I thought wen i said it lol
Looks like Poa Trivialis in that yard. Guessing that’s why you’re not concerned with it coming back. I call it nightmare grass.
Came to say same... haven't heard Dan talk about that before but does have that nasty branchy sideways laying over look. The more you rake, the more there is... nightmare.
That loss to Spain still hurts. It would have been Korea in the quarter finals. 🇮🇪
Ah well 😎
Damian duff kicked butt that day
Post a new video post more!!!
One coming today hopefully been on holiday
fix it by stop adding chemicals onto lawn and leave earthworms est all old grass and fertilize it
At least your team didn’t throw away A 1-0 lead against 10 men in the dying minutes , and have to face Juergen Klopp grinning through his diamond white veneers
You didn’t throw it away - it was took from you.😂
😂😂😂
2 excellent goals but nufc we’re hopeless against 10- zero intensity
Oh dont mention that grin i had this out earlier with my mate i used to love klopp but now he stands there grinning like the world against him if a player gets sent off or a goal is disallowed!!
