+Mireille Liong Hi Mireille, this is so sad. Isabella is very beautiful and she did not need to have anything done to her hair. I am an attorney with a civil litigation background based in Canada but with a cross-border practice. After reading your background story, I can confirm that Isabella did not get very good legal advice. Unless she could prove that other users of the product had suffered similar or identical injury to hers, the party to sue was *not* L'Oréal, but rather the *hair salon*. Unless she was made to sign a waiver before the stylist put the product in her hair, she could have recovered significant damages from the hair salon, including a judgment that forced the salon to pay for her hair replacement treatments. She could also have gotten a court order to liquidate the salon's assets to satisfy the court judgment. The common law tort of civil liability/duty of care applies to things such as wilful negligence, which is referred to in the U.S. as "reckless endangerment".
+Drogyne I agree. Isabella should have sued the stylist because he/she obviously ignored Isabella's discomfort and told her to wait a few minutes more before washing out the perm. All chemical hair products come with a legal disclaimer against improper use so I don't understand why her lawyers told her to sue the company instead of the stylist. Whatever the case, this is a very sad story. I hope Isabella can overcome her depression and financial troubles one day. Cheers.
jm Smith my thoughts exactly and this is exactly why black women should learn to love their natural hair texture and how to properly take care of it themselves instead of wasting their money on these crooket stylist!
This is truly sad. I've been a hair designer for 30 years, and I can't speak for everyone but when I was learning my craft, cosmetology books tell hair dressers before applying if there are no visible signs of scalp abrasions or redness conduct a allergy patch test to determine if the client has any allergic reactions to the chemical. I conduct one especially on a virgin head of hair. Most stylist think that basing the scalp alone will prevent the effects of an allergic reaction, well IT DOESN'T! All basing does is slows the process of relaxers from irratating the scalp. Most stylist think I don't have time, well that's the biggest self dillusional way of thinking. Also a lot of stylists as well as boot leg do it yourselfers don't have complete knowledge and technical skill when it comes to proper hair and scalp analysis and chemical application. When it boils down to it ,it's not the chemical that does the damage is the INDIVIDUAL whom applied it that is to blame.
I experienced hair loss due to chemicals my self! Fortunately I woke up and decided to never perm or wear weaves again. I let my hair grow out and locked it FOREVER! It gives you a sense of pride you embrace your natural beauty!
+Amy Falconer Well I guess your dumbass will have to find out the hard way. Guess the fact that you could get WORM'S from it doesn't matter. Might wanna make sure the hair you get isn't from a CORPSE!
I am so sad about this. I don't feel my scalp has ever been the same since relaxing my hair many many years ago. After my final bad experience in the 90s I stopped relaxing and grew dreadlocks for 6 years. My hair was healthy again and longer than it had ever been. Today I am natural (no dreadlocks) and I am determined to grow long healthy natural hair. I wear a wig while I grow my fine hair as I want to avoid combing it every day. When I went to college to become a hair stylist a long time ago, In the class we were all told that the relaxer we use on our hair we would not put it in our toilet. That stayed with me for a long time. At this point in my life I would rather deal with my natural hair than be bald. I learnt my lesson a long time ago.
I really feel so bad for her, this is terrible. I have been a Cosmetologist for 17 years and have never seen or heard of anything this tragic. I love African American hair, I find it easy to work with and extremely beautiful just to leave it in curls.
+Alex Redwine That is the first thing I thought. You dont get damage like that from leaving a relaxer on the scalp for a couple extra minutes. No I guarantee you that the stylist was a woman and she was jealous. The woman (victim)was quite stunning, actively pursuing a successful modelling career, in numerous newspaper articles and she was rocking her own HAIR... oh no, she couldn't have that!
I wont even go to a salon. I had a bad experience once.. it wasn't too bad, but still. I don't like trusting people with my hair or my skin or anything...
I feel either natural or relaxed ..your hair can still be healthy. It's how you take care of your hair. Anyone's hair can be beautiful if they'd take the time out to care for it & learn their hair. There is no such thing as "good" hair. What exactly defines good hair.
Infiniti Williams My husband was in the military and I have learned much, and that statement is true, there is no good hair, because life is not perfect like that, I have met white woman who relaxed their hair, who’s hair would not grow, who’s hair was dry etc.. when you learn and see more you think different and you are able to get rid of that slave man mentality way of thinking.
PandasDontShare Then why is Oprah’s hair healthy?? People need to watch what they put in their mouths , How about eating natural and getting rid of that processed foods
Personally I think she was sabotaged..jus saying...She was on her way up.. but as the saying goes, u got to take the good out the bad. #peace #love and #light
I've heard so many stories of jealous stylists that it terrifies me. I noticed my (former) stylist was REALLY rough with my natural hair, I wonder if she was angry because she's bald...
+Morris Wilburn What a confusing statement. You note a strange concept of beauty in this video. But then you say you liked her hair the way it looked WITH the chemical process that scarred her so horribly and irrevocably--as it's clear she wasn't going in for new treatment, but merely for maintenance of the relaxer she ALREADY had in hair when it appeared healthy. Seems like you're damning her for something which you admire?! But, I may not be understanding you correctly, so I apologize in advance, if I've got the wrong end of the proverbial stick...
***** Thank you for your kind, sweet, and thoughtful help. As I'm sure you saw in my comment, I apologized in advance because I was very concerned that I had misinterpreted the OP's comment. I was concerned that the OP actually meant the reverse (a point you so graciously noted in your own comment), of what I worried he/she meant. I knew it was a rather low probability that the OP intended this negative meaning. But, I felt that the mere possibility that the OP intended this negative meaning, around such an important and delicate issue, required a thoughtful, measured response. And, I didn't care one jot, if that meant I might receive a bit of online censure and ridicule. SO, I wrote my response, making sure to include an apology in advance--so that I'd covered EVERY base/eventuality. Again, thanks for your kindness. Cheers =)
Remember now black lives matter. Now that couldn't be you all love each other so much. See I'm making a point this is why the black lives matter movement is hard to take seriously!
Sheila Grover your point is irrelevant and nonsensical. we don't even know if the person who permed her hair was black first and foremost. secondly black lives matters movement came about, and has to do with the injustice towards black people of all ages being targeted, shot, murdered, and still being lynched till this day in this country. the context in which you are using the term is fallacious and not relevant to the video.
I was unaware there was a problem like this. Thank you for being brave enough to share your story. This woman is gorgeous regardless of her hair. I pray God helps her reach her goals of getting her hair back but regardless, I pray even harder she can see the beauty I see when I look at her.
I did relaxers for 9 years. As a result, there are a few permanent bald spots throughout my scalp where hair won't grow. I'm not a natural nazi who yells at people that use weaves and heat tools, but this is the one thing I encourage African American women not to do. I know the thick, course texture of natural hair can be high maintenance, but that is so much better to deal with than damaged, thin hair that breaks off. Relaxers go all the way back to when there was extreme discrimination against blacks. They were made so black women could have white women hair, plain and simple. Kinda gross that they're still so popular today, especially since they are so strong they can burn through plastic. If you still think relaxers are okay, you should watch Chris Rock's documentary "Good Hair." HUGE eye opener.
personally I think if perms were invented in this day. they would not be sold over the shelf. perms are highly corrosive creams that burn through your scalp. I cant think of any other hair treatment used by others with such harsh chemicals. of course perm can burn through many things, the reason it doesn't burn all of our scalp off is we stop the reaction by washing it off with water. we try to avoid the perm touching our scalp but you know how that goes. Don't compromise Sarah, you are correct with your assessment.
Honestly, people just have to be smart with relaxer chemicals. A relaxer is supposed to do just that, RELAX the curl. Not beat it to the ground so it's limp and bone straight and completely lifeless. Some people call it tex lax but in my opinion that's the only way relaxers should be used; mix an oil and conditioner into the chemical, apply it to the hair so it break downs your curls slightly, and rinse it out. That way you can still have body and volume, but it's easier to manage.
Even after watching Chris rock's movie I still put on relaxer,I've used relaxer for years and just minor horror stories of having to take out bloody scabs on my scalp, THANK GOD I have no permanent hair loss in those areas,I support both sides relaxed & natural hair,I personally fell in love with my recently natural hair.
Blunt.Beautiful, relaxer can burn your skin if you leave it there for more than 20 minutes. I'd know, because it has happened to people I know. And, you completely missed the premise of the argument. Straight hair is *not* seen on black people, unless they have some type of non-Sub-Saharan admixture. Black people straighten their hair to fit into Eurocentric beauty ideals. Simple as. Having your hair pin straight is *not* to make it "more manageable". Yes, there are texturisers that can do that, but I personally don't use any of those, because it simply isn't good for your hair. Also, that's not why they're using it. They're making their hair straight, not "more manageable". There are lots of people who have their hair natural, and have no problems with their hair being unmanageable. Flat irons also cause your hair to break if you're not careful. Especially if it's straightened extensively. I used to use the straighteners and hot combs on my hair a few years ago, and it ruined my hair. Claiming that the majority do it out of necessity is disingenuous.
OMG! That has to be the worse case that I have ever seen. I am not a pusher for either ( relaxed or natural ) but I will say this, as a person that relaxes my hair, I keep to the same stylist, don't scratch, wash, flat iron my hair for 3 days before getting a relaxer and I also wait 2 1/2 - 3 months before touch up's and I have never experienced a problem. Tip: ladies, don't let your stylist have you sitting in the chair with relaxer on your head talking about " let me know when it starts to burn! " which I have seen some stylist do.There is a process timing for a reason.
This is so sad. this should be a message to all girls, to love yourself the way you are. Manipulation of natural hair is alright to a certain degree. Remember the consequences that can happen if you want to go too far permanently. You are beautiful the way you are (:
It was painful for me to watch this video. I grew up with having a jheri curl to relaxed hair for twenty years. I finally went natural, turns out my hair texture is a mix of 3c/4a soft kinky coily strands. I said to myself, "why did I ever get processed chemicals in my hair?" Oh I know why...having straight hair means that your hair is not nappy, gotta be like everybody else. Glad to say I've been natural for one year and two months and my hair healthy and thick. I will never ever go back. 😀
It is because we as black people have been brainwashed to believe that everything white people have is better than what we have. We have to learn to love ourselves for who we are. It shouldn't take chemicals to straighten out the kinks in our hair, which was once a trait to be proud of. We are beautiful so beautiful as we are, with out kinky hair and brown skin. This beautiful woman didn't need straight hair to model or be perceived as beautiful, we must not bend to societies idea of who we should be and what we should look like! It is okay to be different! Love one another!! Love yourself!! Selah!
I agree but honestly, it's just hair. White people damage the hell out of their hair trying to be something they're not too. I love my natural afro. I love rocking my puff and have no problem doing that. I'd go back to relaxers and big chop when I'm feeling a little daring if I wanna.
Wow. I'M glad I went back to natural. I never used readers but I had something really close to it. I know one thing for sure......after seeing this I'M gonna die with my Afro.
sad it happened but it only happens if not done right.there are permed girls with long locs.I think the lady did it on purpose bc she was a model..just jealous
coco chanel Ikr. I had very long hair while I was getting perms. What got me was a sew in from someone who had no idea what they were doing. I recently went back to perms because my hair is too thick to properly moisturize daily and got too big to easily do my job. I also suck at styling my own hair. Her stylist could have saved her from all this pain.
coco chanel ....my thoughts exactly. No way that kind of damage is from a relaxer. I been getting relaxers for over 25 yrs and my hair is as soft as Halle Berry's. In spring and summer I usually cut out relaxer and let natural curls grow in. She put some kind of chemical in that relaxer or real lye...God knows and she will get hers.
Chessie B just bc your hair is soft when getting relaxers doesn't mean anything. My hair had to be shaved at 15 from perms fucking my hair and scalp up
wow.. God bless her... I stopped getting a relaxer after I saw how thin my hair looked I had thick hair that slowly fell out that's devastating enough.. nothing as severe as this.. the message is powerful here.. love you.. all of you.. you are who you choose to be..
sadly for black women it's a deep reality that has been in planted deep inside us that we are not attractive unless we have long, str8 hair. we use perms and harsh relaxers and wear weaves just to be noticed, i am proud of my natural hair and feel blessed to have it my prayers are to her and Gob bless her for her bravery in sharing her story
People who commented that she got what she deserved are a bunch of assholes. Something like that could easily happen to anyone. So many women dye their hair. Get perms. Etc. This woman did what a vast majority of women do all the time. We never imagine something like this could happen. I'm sure she wouldn't have done it had she known. Most of us never think about this happening because it so rarely does. And when it does we never hear about it. Karmas a bitch. And those who said she got what she deserved better hope and pray this doesn't happen to them. She's absolutely gorgeous with or without hair.
As a cancer survivor, I can relate to being bald. But for me my hair came back. This isn't the case for this very beautiful young woman. She didn't do anything wrong yet she has to pay a life-long price for just getting her hair done. It is shocking that the company responsible for doing this to her doesn't do the right thing and pay her for suffering and life-long disfigurement. Shame on them.
My beautiful women of color, you have good hair. Who can do their hair in so many different styles and look good each and every time. Who can make their hair have that short look when your hair is really long and flowing. Embrace your locs whether tight or nappy or a little softer than others. Wear your hair as a crown of glory, because you are Queens and Princesses. Your Blackness is Beautiful. As the great Malcolm X said, "Who taught you to hate yourself"? There's an old say: God don't make no junk. We are a beautiful black people, with our different shades and different textures of hair and they are all good. Look in the mirror and see and know that you do have good hair.
I gave myself REALLY bad heat damage recently, my hair is 22 inches long and I probably have 18 inches of heat damage; my roots are natural, after about 2 inches my hair is straight down the remainder of the shaft and towards the end has a looser curl. I've been freaking out and stressing about it, but after watching this video I'm realizing it could be worse and I feel a lot better
I want to thank this lady for sharing this story. It took courage and I could only imagine the emotional damage. I believe the same thing happened to Tina Turner just not as extreme. I think the relaxer took her hair out on the first try so she resorted to being a life long wig wearer. As a teenager, I got a relaxer that took all my hair out. This was in the 90s when the closed crop style wasn't popular yet. I was tormented and humiliated by my classmates which led to depression and anxiety. Some years later, I got the courage to go natural and have been happy ever since. I wondered why I didn't do it sooner. My heart goes out to this woman. I was fortunate enough that my hair grew back but she has permanent scalp damage that will not allow her hair to grow back. I'm so very sorry and I hope perhaps there will be some medical breakthrough to help individuals like her. Isabella you are still beautiful no matter what!
She could have used a flat iron and got the same results that a relaxer would have done without the chemical burning and the stinky sulfer smell. A lot of black woman dont like stories like this.
Shut up. You have no place to talk. It’s because of what your ancestors did to our ppl and that’s why these women hate their natural hair which is actuall better these your dog hair btw
I begged my mother for a relaxer due to the teasing and "Soul Glo" heckling of my peers. After coming home crying enought times my mother took me to the "family" salon and I got a relaxer. At first I loved it, my hair was bouncy and my hair came way down my back and I used to pretend I was Pocahontas.... I was ignorant then. By the time I got into the 4th grade so it was a year with relaxed hair i noticed a change in the texture of my hair strands they were not as smooth as they once were. And I'd say about fall of that year is when it happened... my hair fell out. I woke up like any other morning about to get ready for a fun filled weekend and I noticed my head felt light...too light. I got up and looked at my pillow and ALL my hair was on my pillows and the bed!!! I screamed and cried my parents rushed in and saw what had happened and my mother cried. I am now 30years old and to this day my hair has not been the same. the crown of my head must have taken the worse hit because it will get to a certain length and break off. The texture in that area is way more coarse and the scalp is very sensitive and tender. And in some spots I have little feeling to my scalp! I have come to terms that my hair is ruined and it will never be the same. And it is the only thing I turly regret...
Gwen Hawkins I'm so sorry that has happened... but don't give up hope. I have two suggestions. JBCO(Jamaican Black Castor Oil) and The Mane Choice Hair Vitamins?
Some people's hair /scalp can't take perms. We are all different I've only been natural for four months but my Hair grows so fast I can already tell my texture is a lil rough. And my Hair is breaking.... smh. Going back to relaxed... it has never did me wrong.!
Noooo, give it time. You are not yet seeing your natural hair, it took me about eight months to a year before my hair changed. However, you do what is best for you, just letting you know it takes time.
If this woman had a reaction to chemicals let me tell you all, it doesn't have to take long for her scalp to be permanent damage and for her to have long term hair loss. She may have simply felt a mild discomfort or numbness which we all know is fairly common when using relaxers. Did she say she was burning up in an interview or something? Sorry if I missed that part. Also, had she received a relaxer prior to this incident? I had the same results as she had in those modeling photos from my great grandma running a hotcomb through my hair. This women may or may not have been familiar with relaxers. Let me tell you also that I wish I'd never stopped using the hotcomb I grew up with, and started relaxers at 14. My hair is so much thinner and weaker now that I feel as though I ruined all my great grandma's work in helping me to have strong beautiful hair. For all of you leaving nasty comments.. Really?! For real?! This could be any one of us! Grow up!! On a person new to relaxers, I would have done a strand test. I don't know who is truly at fault here, but I know that I'm praying that Allah T'ala never gives me such a test. How could anyone say such nasty things? Nobody is perfect, no matter what religion. We all falter, we all go astray. Only Allah T'ala knows our fate, so be grateful to him for all we have.
+V. Aminah Townsend Thank you. Here is a link to the story: going-natural.com/videos-news-blogs/crinkles-curls/1954-the-story-behind-the-mutilated-scalp-video
I'm white and grewup in NYC.I thought black girls hair was beautiful-so much more interesting than my flat locks! So Sad this poor lady thought she had to have straight hair. But how brave of her to show her scalp.I wish her all the best in future, she deserves it.
they can do soooo much with their hair because of the texture of it... they should appreciate their hair being different , other races TRY to copy their styles.....
Black women..PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop using relaxers, not only are they unhealthy for the hair, they have been linked to uterine fibroids, cancer and other health issues..What you put on your hair does get into your system and this is a greater issue for your daughters because "black" hair care products contain chemicals which have been linked to causing early menstruation and body development, particularly any products that have words like super grow..Go natural, that doesn't mean nappy or unkempt, learn to embrace the crowns you were born with and stop subscribing to the european standard of beauty..Your Black is beautiful babygirl!!
Not just black women, but ALL women with curly hair endanger themselves with use of relaxers and straighteners to reduce frizz and unruly curls. Coloring the hair can do the same. These are toxic chemicals and carcinogens we are applying to our skin, that are readily absorbed into our body system, that is a high price to pay for what our society calls beauty. #beautymadebetter radbathandbody.com
when you buy a relaxer, it SAYS to not put it on your hair until you test it on your hand (or any skin) and watch it for 24 hours, if you get any type of reaction, not to use it.
Hair dyes say the same tho, its only to cover the manufacturers own backs. Im totally grey, i have to dye my roots every 3 weeks, theres nothing to say that just because i ve been fine up till now the next time i will be too...even if i do a patch test. The levels of chemicals that are absorbed into our bloodstreams every time we put this crap on our heads builds up and up. Same thing goes for perms although oddly being white the same chemicals that make black hair stright and looser in texture would make mine curly!
Its more than a reaction its leaving it on for too long or using it for a long period of time that can cause scalp burn (minor or severe as what you see here). Chemicals used in abrasive cleaners are found in relaxer. Its really not OK for people to act like its no big deal and as simple as a standard patch test. Its not. It can cause permanent hair loss, and that's if your lucky.
In 1968 i used curl free. My mom used a comb and irritated my scalp. it was bleeding. for three years i had to see a dermatologist for seborrhea dermatology. It was certainly not worth it.
Not many young women are thankful for the hair they have its plenty of other women who would lucky to have thick kinky curls of a African and African American woman...I myself have even been insecure about my hair but as I get older I'm able to accept and be thankful that I have hair
i have to say tht when i get a perm and it burns just a litlle i go APE SHIT...what i dont understand is how in the helll was she able to sit there to the point tht it burned her 3rd degree burns...i mean OMG!!! I wouldve been slappin bitches down tryin to get to the damn sink...they couldnt have told me shit bought "oh just sit there its fine"...WTH!!!!!!
I am so with you on that! I have had a slight burn and I will literally get up and start walking to the bowl myself. I am paying you so if you think you are going to allow me to burn up I will wash that ish out myself. I have to say there seems to be more to this story than we know, cause I cannot fathom the pain she must have sat through and not once thought - "hey my hair is on fire".
This is what happens when u try to fix what isnt broken. African hair is gorgeous. Dark skin is hella gorgeous. ya'll gotta love urselves. this is so sad. curls and kinks are pretty
desperate housewives fanpage ...Stfu...my hair is beautiful and I relax mines because I want something different. I hear how beautiful my hair is all the time. How much can you really do with curls? Everyone have options and one mines is liking straight hair that I can style.
relaxers arent healthy regardless if its done at a salon or frm home its best to go natural and stay natural ❤️ I use to use relaxers and it took all my hair out in 2010 smh I had to transition and been natural for 7yrs and 9mnths my hair is now boob length after learnin how to manage my natural hair 😍 Im never goin bck to chemicals 👎🏽
This is why I don't perm my hair anymore. The last perm I had the stylist put me under the hair dryer to accelerate the curly perm. My scalp was burning. Every time I turned it down she turned it up. I just got up and started washing the perm out. I told her to neutralize it I didn't care how it looked....I just wanted to grow it out. Its been a good 15 years I've been natural.
I don't get the title all she wanted was good hair. meaning what? her hair was beautiful, so with a perm her hair will be good? society had it made where long straight hair is the best. they do not admire natural hair anymore. I feel sorry for her loss of hair.
A lot of times, people want what they don't have cause it's different. When I was a teenager, I would go to the salon to get my thick, bushy, curly hair straightened. All the old white ladies were telling me "Why are you getting rid of those curls? I would kill for curls like that!" Now,at 48,I miss the thickness but I like my curls.
MakeupByAdorion Not a perm, a relaxer which many, many black women did, just like Oprah. We all do things to our hair that harm it. Hot blow dryers burn hair, curling irons & flat irons scorch hair, coloring, high lighting. low lighting all burn the hair to a degree. We wear chemical filled make up on our face. Unless you never use make up or never do anything but comb your hair, you are also participating what kost women in the western culture & beyond do. She just had a rare bad reaction.
Absolutely disgusted that she was unable to get compensated, firstly by the salon “professional” who didn’t listen or the company, L’Oréal, who’s product caused the damage.
Very unfortunate. Hats off to her for sharing her story. Relaxed or Natural is a personal choice. If you dont take care of your hair, either way your can end up with damaged hair and scalp. We should ALL educate ourselves and make the wisest choice and then rock it beautiful regardless of which way we go!!! That way its not out of fear of what could happen, but out of a greater acceptance of out own self image as African Americans.
FIRST PLACE: When she got that RELAXER in her hair that was common place for us BLACK FOLKS.... Many many many years ago. I myself haven't had a relaxer sense January 2006.... I've talked so many of my color cleints out of relaxers. Because you don't need both... Well at least if im doing your hair.... But RELAXERS(is a straightener meaning correct term) WERE A SIGN OF THE TIMES JUST LIKE PRESS AND CURL WAS, JUST AS THE JERRY CURL( is a perm(correct term)which is a curl). And yes for some getting relaxer made you look more excepted... Going natural can be a great choice if you or your stylist knows what they are doing..... BLESSINGS....
All I can say is that if someone did this on purpose they are very sick. Too bad it can't be proved because that person needs to be called out. Yes identified and prosecuted so they can't do it to anyone else!
As a person with fine, stick straight, dark blonde hair, between bleaching, coloring, perming, blow drying, flat ironing, I've certainly done my fair share of damage to my hair and scalp. We could ALL benefit from ignoring current standards of beauty, and being more accepting of what we were born with. We're all beautiful, just the way we are.
Stop saying things like you should not leave it in too long, or use a kiddy relaxer, or don't use this type of relaxer. The point is that they're all bad and you should embrace your kinks!
This breaks my heart. She is a beautiful woman. I suffered from chemical burns so harsh my head would bleed. I am a white woman with curly hair. In college I began to chemically relax my hair until one day I just said, "NO MORE!". It was the best choice I ever made. Embrace your natural hair. Keep it clean and healthy. Escape the madness!
I have worn a perm for years and yes I have gotten scalp lesions several occasions I have worn weaves braids but always kept a perm lye and no lye....BUT I JUST GOT TIRED OF THE CHEMICALS !!!!!! It feels so good to feel my hair in its natural state I feel SO FREE...!!! No was knocking sisters that still wear relaxers ...trust its work just give yourself a chance for me it was a personal decision for me It just felt like I was misrepresenting myself with weaves
I stopped getting relaxers for 2 reasons: The scalp burns and it has some of the same chemicals in Draino. Chris Rock did a little documentary called Good Hair that shows the time changes of hair trends, the flat iron, and hair products.

She is still beautiful! She should be compensated for the hell she's going through. I wish her all the best!
she tried, see: going-natural.com/news/my-blog/1954-the-story-behind-the-mutilated-scalp-video
I think African American women have lovely natural hair. I'm so sorry this lady went through so much. She is still really beautiful.
Thanks love..❤❤❤😍😘.
Heather Gray too black African American women believe they have the ugliest hair on the planet. that's y so many will do wat this lady did
According to the video she is neither African nor American but Hollander
I experienced hair loss due to chemicals my self! Fortunately I woke up and decided to never perm or wear weaves again. I let my hair grow out and locked it FOREVER! It gives you a sense of pride you embrace your natural beauty!
What's wrong with weaves?
Wonderful!
+Amy Falconer Well I guess your dumbass will have to find out the hard way. Guess the fact that you could get WORM'S from it doesn't matter. Might wanna make sure the hair you get isn't from a CORPSE!
Sheila Grover You sound very positive and interested in teaching instead of judging. Thank you for your time.
Your hair is so pretty.
What a truly brave woman for sharing her store. Thank you!
WTF is this music?
lol I know. right?
Bryan Tee really...i was falling to sleep! Zzzzzz

How sad. No one deserves to end up looking like this poor woman. God bless her
I agree. Here is more about the story: going-natural.com/news/my-blog/1954-the-story-behind-the-mutilated-scalp-video
Nappy is happy yall! We were born this way, embrace it!
I really feel so bad for her, this is terrible. I have been a Cosmetologist for 17 years and have never seen or heard of anything this tragic. I love African American hair, I find it easy to work with and extremely beautiful just to leave it in curls.
Absolutely heartbreaking. I gave up relaxers weaves and wigs over a year ago. I couldn't be happier
She needed to sue the stylist. Seriously.
Is it just me who thinks this may have not been an accident or.. no?
That is exactly what came to my mind! Sabotage!
That's why I only go to to male stylists unless it's a girl I really trust.
I wont even go to a salon. I had a bad experience once.. it wasn't too bad, but still. I don't like trusting people with my hair or my skin or anything...
I was thinking that too....
A jealous person did that to her on purpose. So tremendously sad.
She already had good hair, she just didn't know it.
Sad world, sad people...
Ayesha King word. ...
Ooh boy, I am sorry to tell you this but that is the worst you can do to your hair. Your edges are most vulnerable.
Ayesha King lol
Ayesha King she knew it..it is said she wanted straight hair
Personally I think she was sabotaged..jus saying...She was on her way up..
but as the saying goes, u got to take the good out the bad.
#peace #love and #light
I think so, too. somebody was jealous.
+Beutodafull Ramsey Sadly that could very well be true. If this is a licensed stylist she should have known how to apply the relaxer.
I've heard so many stories of jealous stylists that it terrifies me. I noticed my (former) stylist was REALLY rough with my natural hair, I wonder if she was angry because she's bald...
I doubt it but y'all extra
Beutodafull Ramsey yeah I think so too
I'm so sorry for what she went through and what she lost. She is still a beautiful woman!
Thank you.
She is still gorgeous to me even with her scalp burned................... I can look past that when I look at her. Hope she's doing alright.
Oh this poor woman my heart goes out to her.
Strange concept of beauty. Her hair looked nice the way it was.
+MissJessyeNorman I dont think he meant it like that... lol
Alex Redwine Thanks for the heads up =)
***** Thank you for your kind, sweet, and thoughtful help.
Cheers =)
Very sad. She's very courageous to share her story with us, and she's very beautiful.
Someone had to do that on purpose. Bless her heart. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Country Girl STFU and crawl back under your rock asshat! The world will not miss you!
I had very long hair and let a friend do it and she tried to leave the perm on extra long and my hair fell out. My hair did grow back, thank God.
Her hair was already perfect and beautiful, I never trusted hair relaxers natural is better
I was unaware there was a problem like this. Thank you for being brave enough to share your story. This woman is gorgeous regardless of her hair. I pray God helps her reach her goals of getting her hair back but regardless, I pray even harder she can see the beauty I see when I look at her.
Thank you.
That way you can still have body and volume, but it's easier to manage.
cassiemichelle03 EXACTLY!! PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE COMMON SENSE!!
Claiming that the majority do it out of necessity is disingenuous.
sad but true. sisters embrace your natural hair, and wear it proudly.
+May June ???
+May June lol
Why is that sad?
cutflower I will never date a black woman who wear weave
cutflower ✊
She was and still is such a beautiful black woman. She should of just flat ironed it..
Silly Me she wouldn't have gotten that modeling job
That's why you have to watch what salons you go to.. Every "professional" is not really a professional. Smh, I hope things work out in her favor.
I am so sorry this happened to her. I am praying that she gets compensated and her life back!!
So sorry it happened to you!!!
You are still a beautiful girl!!!!!
and this is why I rock my natural hair it's not hard to maintain African American/ black hair period so easy
Harlem sista soul for you
For you though. I rock my natural hair too, but in my case, it is very hard to maintain.
There's nothing more beautiful than a sister with natural hair...why straighten something that was meant to be beautifully curly?
It is because we as black people have been brainwashed to believe that everything white people have is better than what we have. We have to learn to love ourselves for who we are. It shouldn't take chemicals to straighten out the kinks in our hair, which was once a trait to be proud of. We are beautiful so beautiful as we are, with out kinky hair and brown skin. This beautiful woman didn't need straight hair to model or be perceived as beautiful, we must not bend to societies idea of who we should be and what we should look like! It is okay to be different! Love one another!! Love yourself!! Selah!
amen! i been there and i hated getting relaxers i went natural and never looked back
I agree but honestly, it's just hair. White people damage the hell out of their hair trying to be something they're not too. I love my natural afro. I love rocking my puff and have no problem doing that. I'd go back to relaxers and big chop when I'm feeling a little daring if I wanna.
She’s a beautiful woman with and without her hair. So sad this happened to her.
Wow. I'M glad I went back to natural. I never used readers but I had something really close to it. I know one thing for sure......after seeing this I'M gonna die with my Afro.
DaiDai I was thinking about going back to relaxers but after this story I think not...so sorry for her!!!
Ladies, let your hair grow healthy lush and unaided by extensions I believe you will see the industry copying your style. Healthy hair is lovely hair.
sad it happened but it only happens if not done right.there are permed girls with long locs.I think the lady did it on purpose bc she was a model..just jealous
coco chanel Ikr. I had very long hair while I was getting perms. What got me was a sew in from someone who had no idea what they were doing. I recently went back to perms because my hair is too thick to properly moisturize daily and got too big to easily do my job. I also suck at styling my own hair. Her stylist could have saved her from all this pain.
coco chanel sometimes some peoples hair can't take certain perms soo
Najayla Thomason I'm aware but this much damage isn't from a simple perm.you can tell extreme improper care of her scalp.
coco chanel ....my thoughts exactly.
My hair had to be shaved at 15 from perms fucking my hair and scalp up
I am so sorry this happened to her. She is so Beautiful and I hope she realizes her beauty is not bound in her hair.
Good for you..no brain wahsing accepted ;)
That's terrible I feel bad for her
People who commented that she got what she deserved are a bunch of assholes.
She did have good hair tho to begin with, it was beautiful.
Totally agree. Thank you.
Omg I'm cutting off the relaxer ends and go natural
laceanna burns you made a smart choice, never forget that.
I know it's been a year but I hope everything is better now
Abiola Adebanjo A lot better!
+cassiemichelle03 Great to hear. Keep it up!
I guess u like the stories like this
Shut up. You have no place to talk. It’s because of what your ancestors did to our ppl and that’s why these women hate their natural hair which is actuall better these your dog hair btw
She is still absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing your story.
Wow, you had it bad. *hugs*
Wait...so were you like bald!? And it ALL fell out at once??? That's crazy!
Yes it broke off at the root! Totally traumatized
Gwen Hawkins I'm so sorry that has happened... but don't give up hope. I have two suggestions. JBCO(Jamaican Black Castor Oil) and The Mane Choice Hair Vitamins?
Thanks you think that will work with my crown? That part of head has NEVER recovered!
There's just no winning :(
I feel so bad for you.
What a horrific experience you endured.
God bless you.
Janet Jane Seek and ye shall find..
Never again!!! Fuck that I’ll wear my kinky natural and you all will deal!!!
Damn and all these hair dyes eventually lead us to the same direction
Not just black women, but ALL women with curly hair endanger themselves with use of relaxers and straighteners to reduce frizz and unruly curls. Coloring the hair can do the same. These are toxic chemicals and carcinogens we are applying to our skin, that are readily absorbed into our body system, that is a high price to pay for what our society calls beauty. #beautymadebetter radbathandbody.com
Whisper McGaughy I want my hair permed but I keep it in a bun so much it's starting to strip my hair so I'm scared my whole scalp is gonna fall out 😥
when you buy a relaxer, it SAYS to not put it on your hair until you test it on your hand (or any skin) and watch it for 24 hours, if you get any type of reaction, not to use it.
Wow, I am sorry that happened to you. It is certainly not worth it.
Not many young women are thankful for the hair they have its plenty of other women who would lucky to have thick kinky curls of a African and African American woman...I myself have even been insecure about my hair but as I get older I'm able to accept and be thankful that I have hair
I feel bad for her she's beautiful
never ever getin a perm ever again
U ain't the only one I got braids in my hair now going natural now fuck perms
I love natural hair. I was raised in the 70s, so maybe I'm biased, but to me, it's the most beautiful.
i have to say tht when i get a perm and it burns just a litlle i go APE SHIT...what i dont understand is how in the helll was she able to sit there to the point tht it burned her 3rd degree burns...i mean OMG!!!
Still super beautiful!! Hope you got justice!
Thank you. You can read more at going-natural.com/news/my-blog/1954-the-story-behind-the-mutilated-scalp-video
If you kick others when they are down, then be ready to face the consequences 7 fold.
Chessie B chill
Chessie B stfu chill
Chessie B well you're not a beautiful person. you deserve that damaged shit
Chessie B tell me when your hair start falling out so I can get a good laugh.
Women, curly hair is beautiful and an important part of your genetic. ¡BE PROUD! Stop horrible relaxer, come on curly african hair!!!
And this is why I don't use perm or relaxer in my hair anymore it's been 12 years since the last time I had my hair straight
if I thought I wanted a relaxer I definitely don't want one now.
Very strong for showing us all of what u went through. Thank you. Stay strong.
relaxers arent healthy regardless if its done at a salon or frm home its best to go natural and stay natural ❤️ I use to use relaxers and it took all my hair out in 2010 smh I had to transition and been natural for 7yrs and 9mnths my hair is now boob length after learnin how to manage my natural hair 😍 Im never goin bck to chemicals 👎🏽
Please Join the #BlackPanther #WakandaHairstyle Challenge going-natural.com/my-blog/2265-the-blackpanther-wakandahairstyles-is-worth-the-challenge

Roseanna Martin believe me, you don't want it. It's a pain in the ass.
I feel sorry for people who blame others for there poor decisions, yes its messed up about her hair but cant blame anyone but herself
I don't think the relaxer is suppose to touch the scalp. Sad story. My heart breaks for her.
urggghhh I hate the music
inside out bing bong😂😂😂 I hate the music too... what makes it so funny is just as I was saying it I came across your comment😂
Oh my God, bless that lady...
You are still the same beautiful woman. Those people who did that to you should pay! So sorry for your troubles that nightmare.
Abiola lmao no kiddie perms are bad too
May June What is so hard about just embracing and taking care of the hair that grows out of your scalp, no matter the hair texture?
This breaks my heart. She is a beautiful woman. I suffered from chemical burns so harsh my head would bleed. I am a white woman with curly hair. In college I began to chemically relax my hair until one day I just said, "NO MORE!". It was the best choice I ever made. Embrace your natural hair. Keep it clean and healthy. Escape the madness!
did she sue the perm company? or did they say it was her fault for not following the guidelines on how long to leave in ?

I am so very sorry that this happened to her
Yes, it's a sad story. You can read more at going-natural.com/11-news-blogs/natural-celebrities/52-isabella-broekhuizen
I am horrified at the end result of a botched beautification experience!!
Hair is not just beauty but our frequency to the message given to us by the universe. Keeping natural is how we receive inner wisdoms
This sad for she is a very attractive woman.
No was knocking sisters that still wear relaxers ...trust its work just give yourself a chance for me it was a personal decision for me It just felt like I was misrepresenting myself with weaves
can't even with this music
I stopped getting relaxers for 2 reasons: The scalp burns and it has some of the same chemicals in Draino. Chris Rock did a little documentary called Good Hair that shows the time changes of hair trends, the flat iron, and hair products.

Natural hair is not a problem for African American hair. As long as you know what to do with it.
Even with no hair now, woman is beautiful!
Please please women learn your own hair don't be ashamed of what GOD gave you.
Your beautiful with your GOD given hair. Curly, wavey, course, thick, full thin or short and long your hair is yours love it and learn it.
Black women have the best hair. It's the most versatile and the most beautiful!
Why couldn't she have still modeled and worn wigs? Lots of models wear wigs, weaves, and hairpieces in addition to their own hair.
yeah
like bold ass Neomi?
Uhm...naw, I don't think so. it's over for her...
Next thing you know she's at an after party and some douche bag snatches it off lol!
