I have never tried rice syrup and I'm not sure what types of sugar are found in that, but honey does have properties similar to golden syrup, so you can try that.

Wait you only boiled the adzuki beans right?
They get boiled(pressure cooked) then mashed and then sugar is added and you might also have to cook it off on the stove to dry it out a little.
