I’m grateful that you gave brief plot synopsis of the good movies since it’s likely people who haven’t seen it yet not the film spoiled, but still want to hear your input
Being a wrestling fan, I was overall very happy with The Iron Claw, especially how the British actor who portrayed David Von Erich, sounded and looked just like him. It was eerie. I went to their graves in Texas, and growing up watching them wrestle, and die, was heavy-hearted for sure. For years I told my friends their story would make a great Hollywood film. I'm glad it was.
My top 20: - John Wick 4 - The Iron Claw - Oppenheimer - Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning - Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse - Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret - The Holdovers - Killers of the Flower Moon - Godzilla: Minus One - Suzume - Nimona - The Creator - Air - Sisu - Anatomy of a Fall - Talk to Me - No One Will Save You - Still - How to Blow Up a Pipeline - Missing
Happy new year Sir! Always fun to see your best/worst lists; though your long 'worst-of' discussions are a favorite, I understand that events can intervene. Haven't quite decided on my own #1 pick, but am leaning towards yours. I'm a big Payne fan and this could be his best movie since Sideways. Interesting to see a big-budget, somewhat-mainstream release take the booby prize; it's been a long time since that's happened (since the last Die Hard film, to be exact). My wife and I have been getting into Indian films for the last 2 years. Pathan rules but did you see Jawan or Dunki? Some of SRK’s best work and this was his comeback year. Great time to be a fan
I honestly would have done Sisu over mission impossible. The action was great but they did quite a bit of paint by numbers. I knew way in advance that **small spoiler alert** someone specific was going to die. Plus that train scene at the end? What a rip off of uncharted 2.
I'm glad he got kicked to the curb. His worst list being entirely made up of blockbusters was getting obnoxious, especially when most of them weren't that bad.
I had a gut feeling Brad was going to have at least three religious movies as his worst movies and bonus points for at least one of them starring Kevin Sorbo. Another Bonus, I also hated "Knights of the Zodiac" too.
The Devil Conspiracy almost feels like it took some ideas from the final evil plot of the villain in a series that had at least 2 anime seasons, Qwaser of Stigmata. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ They want to, as I recall, take what is a copy of Jesus' soul that's in an artifact and put it into a clone they'll make and then, because Jesus' powers are essentially global scale manipulation of Iron, enhanced by a substance called Soma that is produced by women partnered with the Qwasers (manipulators of elements like Iron on the periodic table), who, no joke, drink it from their breasts like Jesus nursed on Mary as a baby. And the ultimate goal is to cause a polar shift and basically kill everyone on the planet
I actually saw three movies this year i thought were WORSE than Knights of the Zodiac, although I'm pretty sure you'll disagree with my pick for the worst. Yes, I did see KotZ, and the effects are so bad I honestly thought it was animated The Spirits Within style until I got home. Just this awful CG filter over everything. I just honestly was more pissed off by the following three. #3. Zombie Town Based on an RL Stine book, a plot point involves the lead being afraid to pee outside, and not because of the zombies. Has both Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd, with a post credit bit where Dan says a quick thanks to the crew and just hightails it off set leaving Chevy just looking confused. 2. Meg 2: The Trench Shocked this wasn't on your list. Completely unbelievable, especially so shortly after Titan. The first was decent, but this was just awful and contrived. 1. 65 They not only made Kylo Ren fighting dinosaurs boring, but somehow made a worse version of After Earth by removing the colour and unintentional humour. What was the point of setting this in our past on Earth when it had absolutely no impact on the plot?
Man, I felt so lied to with Nefarious. Was digging the campy delivery and the villain dude gave one hell of a performance. Bout half way thru finally clicked with me the preachy nature of it! Silly liberal atheist is silly. The Glen Beck reveal at the end felt like seeing Palpatine at the end of The Rise Of Skywaker, but in reverse. Evil Palpatine is back? Cool! Evil Beck is still around? Booooo!
Yeah, I started getting vague Force Tremors of Knights of the Zodiac like I did with Power Rangers a few years ago, but cranked up. Like the Power Rangers movie was 'A presence I haven't felt since...' vs Knights being 'Billions of voices crying out at once...' I wonder, do the Satanists in the movie realize that, really, in order to have it be the ULTIMATE sacrifice, you'd have to raise Jesus to be good and holy? Like it'd be funny, summon Satan, prepare the sacrifice, and clone Jesus is acting like Kevin Sorbo and Satan k!lls the cult like 'You wasted my time with THIS asshole?'
The fact they had to cut out two deaths from the final cut of the iron claw show how tragic the Von Erich curse was
I’m grateful that you gave brief plot synopsis of the good movies since it’s likely people who haven’t seen it yet not the film spoiled, but still want to hear your input
I remember seeing the poster for Mafia Momma and it looked like a poster for a fake movie that would have been In Tropic Thunder

It may just be me, but Suzume isn't talked about enough for last year.
Here's hoping some of the worst movies get made into Snob episodes, in particular, the Children of the Corn movie or the Left Behind one.
The Devil Conspiracy almost feels like it took some ideas from the final evil plot of the villain in a series that had at least 2 anime seasons, Qwaser of Stigmata.

They want to, as I recall, take what is a copy of Jesus' soul that's in an artifact and put it into a clone they'll make and then, because Jesus' powers are essentially global scale manipulation of Iron, enhanced by a substance called Soma that is produced by women partnered with the Qwasers (manipulators of elements like Iron on the periodic table), who, no joke, drink it from their breasts like Jesus nursed on Mary as a baby. And the ultimate goal is to cause a polar shift and basically kill everyone on the planet

Godzilla and AIR didn't see yet but I want and gonna do
I actually saw three movies this year i thought were WORSE than Knights of the Zodiac, although I'm pretty sure you'll disagree with my pick for the worst.
Yes, I did see KotZ, and the effects are so bad I honestly thought it was animated The Spirits Within style until I got home. Just this awful CG filter over everything. I just honestly was more pissed off by the following three.
#3. Zombie Town
Based on an RL Stine book, a plot point involves the lead being afraid to pee outside, and not because of the zombies. Has both Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd, with a post credit bit where Dan says a quick thanks to the crew and just hightails it off set leaving Chevy just looking confused.
2. Meg 2: The Trench
Shocked this wasn't on your list. Completely unbelievable, especially so shortly after Titan. The first was decent, but this was just awful and contrived.

They not only made Kylo Ren fighting dinosaurs boring, but somehow made a worse version of After Earth by removing the colour and unintentional humour. What was the point of setting this in our past on Earth when it had absolutely no impact on the plot?
I hope Poor get a physical media release in my country.
Godzilla minus one was a delight

Man, I felt so lied to with Nefarious. Was digging the campy delivery and the villain dude gave one hell of a performance. Bout half way thru finally clicked with me the preachy nature of it! Silly liberal atheist is silly. The Glen Beck reveal at the end felt like seeing Palpatine at the end of The Rise Of Skywaker, but in reverse. Evil Palpatine is back? Cool! Evil Beck is still around? Booooo!
Godzilla Minus One is best film of 2023.
Yeah, I started getting vague Force Tremors of Knights of the Zodiac like I did with Power Rangers a few years ago, but cranked up. Like the Power Rangers movie was 'A presence I haven't felt since...' vs Knights being 'Billions of voices crying out at once...'
I wonder, do the Satanists in the movie realize that, really, in order to have it be the ULTIMATE sacrifice, you'd have to raise Jesus to be good and holy? Like it'd be funny, summon Satan, prepare the sacrifice, and clone Jesus is acting like Kevin Sorbo and Satan k!lls the cult like 'You wasted my time with THIS asshole?'
My best film of 2023: Red Rooms (Les chambres rouges)
The Holdovers is a excellent
I love holdovers
No Doge? That makes me a sad panda
well, 2023 is in the books
True.
Definitely putting a check on that
A shame, since Knights of the Zodiac actually looks like there’s decent VFX. Better than what I’d expect, anyway
Yeah Left Behind is in the Top 10
I hoped it happend and now it happend
okay I will give The Devil Conspiracy a shot
On my list of over 100 movies from 2023 I saw, Infinity Pool is in my five worst list.
