  • In this video, we look at the different potential issues encountered with brakes, when installing a lift kit on a Club Car Precedent.
In my experience, here are a few ways to counter brake issues when installing a 4 leaf set of HD rear springs. Often, the stock brake cables are simply too short. To counter this, we can do a few things:
    1) Swap the brake assemblies over to the opposing side of the axle, thus elevating the height of the actuator mechanism, reducing the effect of the added axle drop of the lift process.
    2) Install a drivers side brake cable with increased length to enable the installation of the cable without causing undue tension on the mechanism.
This can be achieved by either sourcing an after market cable with increased length on the drivers side assembly (USA Spec cart), or simply installing a passenger side cable (longer cable) on the drivers side.
In this video, we install a passenger side cable onto the drivers side. Ultimately, I will install a metallic 'P Clamp' onto the bottom of the cart to secure the extra length of the longer cable.
The additional length will eliminate the 'piano string' effect which induces pulsations in the brake pedal feel when using an OEM spec length cable in certain lifted conditions.

Thx Mate for the tip on the longer drivers side brake cable. I had same issue with my lift kit installation.

The correct way to fix that is by swapping the backing plates on the axle drivers to passenger and passenger drivers then it turns the brake assembly on top which gives it a smoother operation instead of the cables routed to the bottom.

Great idea, I will look at doing that. Honestly, as installed the breaks are perfect. If anything I think it would look better the way you describe.

Hi Dave, I’m planning on going to Orlando and buying a golf cart to ship to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and work on it. Can you go over the things you look for on a project cart and where do you get your kits from. I saw that you had issues with one lifting kit, did you order from another company? Will appreciate any info you can help with. Thanks Angel (Rey) Malaret, SSG retired Army and USPS retired
