Club Car Precedent Lift Kit | Brake Issues and solutions
In this video, we look at the different potential issues encountered with brakes, when installing a lift kit on a Club Car Precedent.
In my experience, here are a few ways to counter brake issues when installing a 4 leaf set of HD rear springs. Often, the stock brake cables are simply too short. To counter this, we can do a few things:
1) Swap the brake assemblies over to the opposing side of the axle, thus elevating the height of the actuator mechanism, reducing the effect of the added axle drop of the lift process.
2) Install a drivers side brake cable with increased length to enable the installation of the cable without causing undue tension on the mechanism.
This can be achieved by either sourcing an after market cable with increased length on the drivers side assembly (USA Spec cart), or simply installing a passenger side cable (longer cable) on the drivers side.
In this video, we install a passenger side cable onto the drivers side. Ultimately, I will install a metallic 'P Clamp' onto the bottom of the cart to secure the extra length of the longer cable.
The additional length will eliminate the 'piano string' effect which induces pulsations in the brake pedal feel when using an OEM spec length cable in certain lifted conditions.

    I pulled my hub and bearings a few hours ago and learned that I should have tapped the hub with a plastic/ rubber hammer instead of a small steel hammer just like the shop manual said. Even though they were light taps, the cast hub broke. Duh.

    Dave, thanks so much for making this video. I had a 'Custom Cartz' shop do some maintenance recently and it was not done properly (for starters the new axle bearings are totally shot after only 3 months...if they actually replaced them). I tried your link to the rebuild kit in your description but it no longer works. I have a 2005 EZGO TXT PDS cart with the factory Dana rear end. Couple of questions: 1.) Can you provide the link to the bearing seating tool set you used to install the bearings? 2.) Can you provide the link to the bearing puller set you used to remove the bearings from the differential? 3.) Any suggestions on removing the motor which is stuck to the input shaft (motor housing spins freely after the bolts were removed but it will not come off the input shaft? Thanks again for the great content. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

    Nice clear video, but the music was louder than your voice and kinda annoying. After watching this, anyone with basic wrenching experience should be able to tackle the job. Would have been good to hear your impressions of ride quality, steering, etc after the install. Lifted carts can be "tippy" although a 6" isn't too bad. Was the ride more compliant over bumps? I mean, just the bigger diameter tires should help with that. One other observation, the radius of bodywork looks like it was made for those tires

    • @DaveDivesIn
      @DaveDivesIn Рік тому

      Hey Paul, thanks for your feedback. You would have to really try to tip the cart over. Overall I prefer the ride of a lifted cart, you just need to ensure the alignment is on point, then the steering is smooth and compliant. One major advantage is the addition of the HD springs, you can ride with 4 adults easily without the rear squatting. I will work on the audio level going forward!

      @@DaveDivesIn Another question, Dave, which faulty (old) bearings do you suspect were primarily causing the loud running gear / noise? Which of the old bearings seemed to be most worn out / and the least worn out, as well, and where were they located? Thanks again.

      @@DaveDivesIn Is that one of those two biggest bearings in the sides of the differential case that support the large, vertical (pinion?) gear? Thanks much for all your help and your previous, prompt replies! - I'm in the current process of trying to decide how to go about fixing my Mother's exact same model, (a 2009 EZGO TXT.), which has a probable bad bearing caused rear end noise. I'm not sure where exactly the noise is coming from. It seems to be heard best with the motor unloaded / foot off the accelerator, most of the times, while driving it, but not always - it doesn't seem consistent, to me, when I test drove it a couple times, and I can't nail where it's coming from.
