Hack your Xbox360 and play any game you want
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 чер 2024
- The Xbox 360 is a great console with a fantastic library of games. You can pick one up for around £50 complete with controllers and even the Kinect sensor.
But hacking the console lets you load games from backup ISO files. This means that you can very easily get hold of any game you ever wanted and play it on your hacked Xbox.
In this video I'll take you from your untouched retail Xbox through to a fully modded RGH3 console playing games from any ISO backup file.
Don't forget to check out the project page for better images and extra links.

Great video! You took me from zero knowledge to dangerously incompetent in my confidence to attempt doing this :) I just discovered thanks to YT that the XBOX would be a great gamer machine. Your video answered all the questions I had and questions I didn't know I needed to ask. Good job, ordered up the tools and now scouring Ebay for the proper candidate for this mod. :)
Great. Give it a go. Hope you have fun with your modded console.
nice work. video and audio was well put together thanks. 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I watched this from start to finish although I have no intension of doing it. it's simply because it was a great tutorial and very interesting to see the work that's gone into this project to make it posable. Top stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it! Keep an eye put for a few more console mods coming soon.
Thanks for such a thorough guide. This is a mod I've been wanting to do for a while, and feel pretty confident to give it a go. Looking forward to any follow-up vid(s) you make that look at getting more out of a hacked 360.
Great. Definitely get yourself one. Just uploaded a more in depth game install video.
@@BytesNBits Everything's up and running. 2TB SSD installed, just prepping to load it up with games. I had one scary moment where I damaged a trace removing the x-clamp. My eyesight is poor so I didn't notice the notches on the x-clamp (need to look from the side) and put the tool underneath! Fortunately I have a microscope so was able to fix my mistake, and after that soldering the wires was relatively easy.
How you can instal games
Fantastic tutorial, really indepth, absolutely loved it.
Glad you liked it!
Fantastic, the most clear tutorial I have seen on youtube, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Big comprehensive guide great work sir!
Thanks. Great fun to make as well!
Came back after following a successful guide to jailbreak my console with one more thing, special thanks for saying that we need to save backup of nand files, I had parental control turned on, and once I saw process to remove it I start panicking little bit because there is no way that Im gonna disassemble my console and solder pico again just to read my reset code... Thank you man
Glad I could help
Very comprehensive tutorial, thank you.
You're very welcome!
excellent video-you have a very professor-like quality. this is maybe the clearest guide I've ever seen on this site, for anything.
Glad it was helpful!
@@BytesNBits Just did it tonight and everything went smoothly :)
This is really great tutorial. Thanks for making this excellent video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
U have done a great video
Been diong xboxes since rgh 2 with modchips and rgh 3 makes it more accessible to more people
Thanks. I'd always shied away from hard modding as the parts you needed just pushed the cost up too much. This one, especially with the Pi Pico programmer is great.
This is a great tutorial. You’ve taken a lot of highly detailed information and explained it in a way that an intermediate PC enthusiast can understand. I hope everyone who tries this has a great result. I will certainly give it a go when I find the time. I will probably give careful consideration to using a pre-made nand flash card or making one from a Pico. The later maybe riskier for my hardware, but you have explained it very well and I would be comfortable doing it this way. Many thanks.
You're very welcome! Hope you get a chance to make one.
hello mate, Thank you for the video its great and easy to follow, just one quick question what gauge wire did you use for the two permanent connections??
I use 30AWG. But anything fine will do.
Finally did this myself, not gonna lie it certainly is a tad challenging soldering some of those points without disturbing the surroundings. Managed to get it though and I was very surprised when it actually worked. Using this as the main unit for a racing arcade cabinet. Mostly for daytona usa but also have every racing game the steering wheel supports also.
Sounds like a great setup.
Extracting the ISOs is also a saving space measure. Not all games had the same size so MS did put a lot of bloat so all of them were either XGD2 (7 Gb) or XGD3 (8 Gb)
Thanks for the tip.
Great video 😀Very informative and looks far easier now .. Ive still got all my orginal modding tool . As i repaired and modded a lot of them back in the day .. Am liking the RGH3 . Ive a Starwar Ltd im thinking of doing 😉
Thanks. Definitely give it a go.
RGH3 mod was a bit too beyond my abilities and I didnt want to brick it so I sent mine off to be modded last year and I wish i'd done it sooner, its absolutely brilliant. Mine is mainly full of japanese shmups that werent released over here. And Aurora is much nicer than that awful ad filled metro interface they switched to.
It's a great console, especially after it's modded. Hope you're enjoying it. Have a go with a second one yourself. It's not too hard. Just take it slow and check your work.
How did you find someone to mod your system?
@@Cueiljust did a google search for a service nearby. In my case, UK. There were a couple still doing them
I was able to rgh3 5 consoles and I was 16 at the time "a year ago" if anything it isn't difficult it's expensive to buy good enough equipment to not kill the console with cheap garbage + no skill
Tbf unless you plan on doing it on a large scale or on different consoles like gba or switch I'd recommend just buying a pre modded console

Great Work! Thanks for that! I have a question, is it possible to take the micro computer of the elegoo r3 startet set instead of the raspb pico? Thank you
Thanks. You'd need to rewrite some of the code and recompile it. I'd stick with the Raspberry Pi Pico.
@@BytesNBits Thanks again. Alright - so i will buy a Pico , just in case 🙂
Rewatching as I've ordered a PICO, was curious about the board holder you had, do you have a link for it ?
Is this the white breadboard I plugged it into? If you look online for solderless breadboard it should pop up.
@@BytesNBits it was the board holder you had holding the xbox motherboard
the torx you need are t6 and t8, from memory.
also, if you're using a phat, save your effort and get an opener tool, which usually comes with a t6/t8 in the same form factor as an allen key.
Thanks for the tips. I did actually buy an Xbox opener tool. I was wondering what to do with it.
I used to have a JTAG X360 that I water-cooled and had some fun with but at this point I pretty much have every X360 game I would be interested in playing on Disc or Digital, so this is interesting but not something I would do today. I hope this increases the resale price of the Xbox 360 Slim though!
There are lots of ways to enjoy the games so whatever way suits you best is the way to go.
You should have gone a bit further and recased it with better cooling solutions. Will it have problems running if you completely remove the drive bay since it useless if you're playing with digital games?
Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure about removing the DVD. I guess there's only one way to find out.
Thanks for this thorough guide! Just got a 360 Slim with Kinect for $30 and was looking at what I could do with it!
Definitely hack it!
Thank you so much!!

Some early E models I heard can be RGH3'd.... Will you be covering XBLA and XBLI games?
Yes you're right. Unfortunately you have to take the Xbox apart to find out which one you've got.
@@BytesNBits I believe there is a updated power chart you can follow to see which one you have.... I have a copy somewhere.
@@BytesNBits What else on the 360 RGH3 will you be covering in future videos?
great detailed video, so much so I've taken the plunge to do one of these boxes.

have done all the soldering, connected to pico board, flashed it, run j-runner but is not detecting console
resoldered all joints twice, have also reverted to using solder points on the underside of the board, still not recognising console
any advice?
ps, console was working before starting project, ty
Is j Runner talking to the Pico Flasher - does the icon appear in the j Runner app window? Have you got the power brick attached to the console and power turned on so the console has standby power? Check all your wiring and look for any places where your wires might have touched another pad or component. Especially check the connection where you had to scrape away the solder mask.
If all else fails desolder the mod and try the console to make sure it's all still working as a retail machine. If that's all OK try modding again. Hope you get it going.
took your advice, stripped back to retail console and it still worked perfectly. Resoldered wires back on and it talked to xbox, Now have a hacked xbox, slowly loading games into it now, huge thanks
for people that dont no how to solder please use Xkey and jungle flasher read out the drive key wright it down or make a screen shot and backup the firmware on it. when ur in B mode of the drives and have the new firmware do the kamikaze mode and the drive is flashed. With the X key u dont realy have to do this but yoou do need the drive key for the external HD.
Thanks.
I finally did this today and man are those points on the motherboard tiny, thanks to this guide I was able to do it and everything went as smoothly as it could be, I also upgraded the hard drive to a 2 TB hard drive and I'll be installing games in the next few days until is full, thanks again for the guide.👍👍
Great. Glad to hear you managed to hack it. Have fun!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial I successfully managed to mod my console thank you so much as you included the xex menu and aurora setup guide as well.. also your soldering tutorial helped a lot. Subbed
Glad I could help. Have fun with your XBox
You will also need iso2god as some games wont work in extracted format. A 4tb or 5tb hd is large enough to store all of the games made including xbla. The multi disk games are easy to figure out how to install in correct order in order to play right
Thanks for the info.
Great video. I'll stick to my ps3 soft mod though, too advanced for me 🤣
It looks hard but is fine if you take it slow. Oddly enough I've just ordered a PS3 to have a go with that mod.
I got my modded 360 I didn't do it myself A friend of a friend did it for me.
75% of the complete library of games but there was some that are missing. And a couple of others didn't work properly sound but no picture.😩 I'm not good at adding games to stuff like this....
Somehow I always mess up even with step by steps. I just wanted to know is it still safe to just play the games off the disc. Only reason why I say that is cuz I tried it since I had it. We're bioshock 3 I was Playing it on the the disc but Aurora act a little funky after trying to go back to the Aurora home screen. But everything was fine afterwards but it just had me thinking is it's safe to do that?
I mean by your videos I'm pretty sure I could probably do it but it's only a handful of games that I would be playing on discs anyways. Cuz I pretty much have all the games that I want on the hard drive to begin with.
Disks should be fine on a modded XBox. Just play them as normal.
@@BytesNBits Thanks for answering. Definitely have the best step-by-step videos when it comes to this on UA-cam.
I might do this to my slim. I wonder if there's a good media player for the 360 with DLNA media support. I have a lot of standard def anime I'd like to watch on my CRT, but it's not easy finding a player with analog video output.
I'm not sure, it's not an area I've looked into.
Show us how to add OG xbox games aswell bro. Subbed!
I'll probably cover OG games in a later video.
You dropped 🫳🏻 this 👑
. . . What about a scary game like Microsoft Windows GUI? . . .
I have a question is it possible I can play The Scarface The world is yours game on the Xbox 360 ? I have the 250 GB one and wondering what exactly I need or to do to play it on my Xbox 360?
Yes, but you'll need to add original XBox support to your 360 which I haven't covered yet. There are other tutorials online that will show you how.
Im saving thismvid for the future
Great. Definitely give it a go.
it seems like the retrohaked website got taken down. ist there any other option for the tool? i am just plannin of doing the but this tool is unavailable . :(
try digiex.net/threads/xbox-360-mp-gui-download-title-update-media-id-manager-create-extract-iso.11142/
I would have re-installed the CPU before soldering those leads from the PICO. It would be safer to do that so you don't rip a Pad off the MB!
FileZilla is good, but I prefer WinSCP.
Thanks for the tips. Good advice.
Thanks your vid inspired me to dust off my xbox 360 and rgh it. Month later and I'm still adding 360 and OG xbox games, xbla titles, avatar items, gamer pics ect to my 2tb internal drive 😅.
Fantastic. Have fun!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks
You're welcome!
Brilliant! You know how to organize info clearly and teach coherently! The RGH is up and fully functioning!
Just one glitch I am hoping someone here has a link for:
Does anyone know the cause and fix for games that don't play, and instead they hang on a black-screen for a bit until Aurora reboots? Using Bioshock 2 as an example: I copy-installed it and downloaded and enabled the Title Update with the 'highest number', but upon running it - just black screen and nothing. Does Bytes N Bits or anyone else have a great vid like this that shows the solution? Thanks all!
I don't know about that specific game but I think some just don't work on the hacked XBox.
@@BytesNBits Seems so. Call of Duty 2 won’t install on my RGH either. It copies files slower than an Egyptian scribe with a chisel, then shuts down after 1/2 hour!
I found a solution to try for anyone running into games that really should play after a standard file copy , but won’t: (360 and back compatibility originals)
From Aurora main screen, click BACK for the menu. Go down to SCRIPTS, and run Aurora Disc to GOD installer. Try installing the game files in GOD format in your Content folder. (Remember you will need to set up your content folder as a new path to scan.)
For specific step-by-step, Mr. Mario explains the process in “How to install Multi-Disc Games on a JTAG/RGH”. Hope that helps on some.
How about goldeneye 007. Arcade never leash
Xbox 360E is also eligible for hacking if manufactured before mid-2014. These consoles have the same Corona motherboard installed in the slim models.
Thanks for the info. I felt advising people who where buying one for the project to stick to the S models just removed any confusion.
RGH 360's are THE GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do I have to buy the breadboard if I'm doing the file part on a laptop. I don't know what the breadboard is
The breadboard just makes it easy for me to plug wires into the Pi Pico. As long as you get the wires connected it doesn't mattter.
Is it necessary to use a harddrive or can i use a normal flash drive instead?
Any USB drive / stick / flash will work.
Everything worked even up until the create xell but when I turned on my Xbox the Red dot of death appeared. Sad day for my second xbox 360 that was collecting dust anyways.
Check your wiring and soldering. You might have a bad connection or solder bridge.
Can I also do this with a Zephyr model or do I also need a glitch chip ?
I think the RGH3 mod is a bit hit and miss on this model. You might be better off with the RGH2 mod which I think uses the glitch chip.
@@BytesNBits I recently received a 360 as a gift. It's really complicated with the different versions. I think the ext_clk is for the Glitcher and rgh2 for the 360
I used iso2god and 10tb hard drive i have sid patches on with bigger external hard drive. Can you make a video on how to install All Xbox 360 Avatar Items if you like can send you link to were i got my one.
That's not something I've had a look at. I tend to just use a stock avatar and leave it at that.
hey im having problems with the Xell write, it say its writing it and give a sound effect. however it doesnt show it has completeted. idk how to fix this
Does it give the write successful message. If so that step should be all OK.
@@BytesNBits it does not
I want to do this so i can play cursed loot again. When they de listed it i couldnt play it anymore. My first taste of drm
Great. Give it a go.
Could someone help me please? I‘ve got a slim with corona mainboard, 16mb flash and a post out adapter (got no traces on mainboard), did everything right with soldering, read and flashed with pico, no problems and both reads were the same.
At the step when xell should boot up, the console boots like normal and i got no video, no matter if hdmi or component cables, but when i reflash the original nand file it boots normal
I had a quick look at someone had the same issue. They solved it by updating the console firmware before installing the mod...
It seems firmware was the issue. I supposed it was already updated to 17559 since console was in use. But it turns out it wasn't. I updated it online and, resoldered wires back and now Xell booted fine and procedure went without any glitches.
@@BytesNBits Got the problem today, the post out adapter wasn't seated properly, it now works fine, thanks for your suggestion and help =)
Hey go me one of those r2d2 xbox. Am I good to use that one?
If it's an Xbox 360 S then you're fine. Phat models can be modded this way but a bit hot and miss sometimes. 360E some are not moddable.
yeah that is insane to have to go through all that when you could easily build an old PC into the same thing
To be fair it's about the same amount of work but you get a £40 machine that plays every game at full speed.
Watching this avidly, then all of a sudden a 10k resistor is added from nowhere, with no prior warning? That's not even in the list of components required above? Confused
Sorry. I guess I forgot not everyone has a supply of general electronic components on hand. They are very easy and cheap to get hold of though. You only need the one.
@@BytesNBits no worries, still a great video.
This video said that it will allow any HDD up to 2tb, but has that been changed? I see people online that are running anywhere from 4tb (what I will attempt to do) all the way up to 16tb!
From what I can gather the internal drive size limit for an RGH3 Xbox is 2TB. If you can use a bigger one that's great but it's not something I've tested. Do check that they are not using larger external drives rather than internal ones slotted into the Xbox.
@@BytesNBits Oh, got it! the 2tb is the internal drive. I don't think there are any limitations to the external ones because I don't see any tutorials on how to get >2tb. Thank you for clarifying! I'll test and report back when I mod my x360 to see if any additional work has to be done and then you can pin the comment.
@Scout339th How did your mod go, were you able to use the full 4tb internally? 🤔
Great tutorial but I'm having a bit of a problem ,my j-runner with extras doesn't see my xbox ,any one have any ideas why.
Check your wiring. It's usually an issue there. Check for dry joints and /or solder bridges.
really great guide - but still needs a lot that I don't have to hand :)
I don't suppose you would be interested in providing a service?
Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have enough time to do this for other people. There are a number of people out there who do though.
So, it's not gonna work for fat version of xbox 360?
You can mod the phat version with RGH3 but it might not always boot correctly. I think it's hard to say if it will work before you mod it. You might then need to fall back to an earlier RGH version perhaps with a glitch chip.
My windows doesn’t have the option to do all the iso stuff. What must I uninstall to get the option to extract?
In the video I install a couple of apps to work with the iso files. You need these before you can get the files.
How do you convert the files to iso instead of 7z
hi
Actually
I have Xbox 360 S already modded 6 years, can you tell me how to know which kit installed and version, also the important is now it as for update also kinect update!
Please help me to fix it
Because a unknown person done that molded
If the mod is installed and working you don't really need to update that end of the hack. The software you're running on it should be OK to update in the normal way. To find out what hack you've got I think you'd need to look inside to see what hardware is attached.
Could you please send me the why to updated and also kinect required update, from where to get the files.
In case Rgh or jtag older version then how to upgrade the software not the hardware
I need help with putting it back to factory ….idk how I missed it up
There are some great tutorials online on how to remove the hacks. Please have a look at these as it will depend on where you got to and what you've done.
Can you use a SSD instead of a 2tb spinner HDD?
Yes. I think most drives are compatible, at least if you go for a branded model. I'm not sure if the SSD will make much speed difference though.
I tried it last week bricked it solder wouldn’t flow clumped all the time bought 2 irons tinned it still same
Try it with some flux paste and make sure you use a pointed soldering iron tip. The last section in my soldering tutorial will help as well - ua-cam.com/video/rk1WvobNlwU/v-deo.html
How much do you charge to mod game systems?
Sorry. I don't offer that as a service. There are a number of people who do. Just have a look online.
is there any way to mod xbox and still get achievements playing these old games on console??
You can log in to Xbox live but I think you need to set up ghost servers and such like. I'd avoid it so you don;t get your account banned.
still have the original xbox 360 - but with not many games kept in bedroom - so was looking for ideas in what to do with it rather collection dust - im in uk - im not tech minded so warey on how to do this
It's not too hard if you take your time. Practice the soldering on any scrap circuit board if you can before trying it on the real motherboard. Make sure you have a look at the soldering tutorial.
@@BytesNBits no chance in hell
@@pattttttttt ☹
Can be pc professor I just need sale mine get house or tower idk
hi friend. Isn't there an easier way to jailbroke the xbox 360?
Unfortunately this is the easier hack. It used to involve extra circuit boards etc.
I'm planning to do this to one of my 360's in the next few days, but I have a question about 360 games and most of the answers I've found online are very vague, it's almost as if people don't know or don't want to take the time to answer questions for someone who is hacking a 360 for the first time, or maybe is just me.
My question is, why would you choose to download games on the ISO format if/when the same games are available in the Jtag/RGH format and the file sizes are usually smaller than the same games in ISO format?
I downloaded a game on both formats, the ISO file was 7.29 GB and the Jtag/RGH was 605 MB, after extracting the ISO with 360mpGui the extracted files were the same size and the same files I got with the Jtag/RGH version, also the Jtag/RGH files are already extracted once is uncompressed so you don't have to extract them with 360mpGui.
I know in some cases the difference between ISO and Jtag/RGH files is not so big, but still the Jtag/RGH files are always smaller and end up being the same files you get after extracting the ISO files.
I guess RGH files are probably exactly as you've discovered. I have to admit though that I too prefer to download the iso versions to make sure I've got the original disk and do the conversion myself. I guess whatever works best for you!
@@BytesNBits I understand why you prefer ISO, I used to get untouched PS3 1 to 1 ISOs, get the encryptions keys and unencrypt them myself, even when scene versions ready to use were available.
Thanks for the video and your response to my question.
You need to get this allows you to install games and software straight to your hdd
Thanks.
any link of where we can download these iso games?
If you do a search for vimms lair you'll find some useful information there that will help.
We use any resistors?
The resistor needs to be around 10K. Try to keep within 1 to 2K of that value. The closer the better.
Can you still use this mod if the drive has been flashed
I don't know for sure, but I suspect it will.
do yoy have a video on how they get offline games onto xbox one consoles?
I don't think the XBox 1 can be hacked.
I dont think they hack it. I think they buy accounts on the black market, load the games on the unit and they play offline. Some1 did it for me but dsnt wanna share how they do it. At a cost though.
Can i access the online and still earning the trophys ?
Unfortunately not. If Microsoft sees you connecting to the live servers it will block your account. That's why in the video we turn on the live blocker. There are stealth servers you can use but I wouldn't recommend that route.
Great tutorial but cod bo3 doesn't work it asks me every time that i need to connect to xbox live and accept an update pls help
I'm not sure what to do if it insists on being signed in to Xbox Live. Are you using the right version of the game. Some have a single player mode and a multiplayer online mode. With the hack in place the online version is sort of out of bounds. I think there are ways around it with stealth servers etc. but not one I would recommend.
@@BytesNBits yeah im using the right version of the game Wenn i use aurora or even freestyle the game gives me the same thing game says that (You must be signed in to Xbox live and accept the update to play Call of Duty Black ops 3)But also i dont have an Xbox live account.

can this be done with the xbox series s?
I think it can but I haven't really looked into it.
I bought an Xbox 360 online no HD cable ? My luck is unbelievably bad lol, can’t play it on my Tv lol.
Your bad luck continues! Go for the slim model. They all have HDMI and can be hacked.
I gotta admit there is nothing like the rush of seeing thar you didnt fucked it up while soldering.
I feel exactly the same way.
Apparently it is only possible with RGH and I don't have that, much less the materials 😔
This RHG3 is a bit picky about which models you can hack.

Not worth hacking if you can’t unlock achievements on your account I can just see my account getting banned they can see I hacked the console I’m staying away this isn’t like the PS2 original Xbox where nobody was watching us
There are ways around it but I just keep mine away from Microsoft Live. Still lots of games to play and Live Arcade titles are available elsewhere.
Questions, would it still let me play online?
no it would not most jail broken consoles wont let you play online but i dont know why you’d want to most servers have been discountinued
You can't really use your Microsoft Live account with these machines. Microsoft will detect the hack and block your account. As part of the setup we use DashLaunch to block communication with the servers specifically to stop this happening. Some people do set up ghost servers which is a sort of a solution but not one I use or plan to use.
@@BytesNBits hey i kinda know this is a bit off topic from this but if i use my raspberry pi pico as a pico flash i can remove it and use it for something else in the future right?
I’ve had a Jtag 360 for years
Great console to have. I've just started messing with the Xbox.
i don’t have resistor do i need it?
Yes. You will probably damage the motherboard if you leave it out.
Omg free minecraft ahhhh thank you soooooooo much I don't have to send 19 dollers💝💝💝💝💝
Great! Have fun!
i need this console only for just dance and dance evolution ..
Go get one.
You forgot to hide the serial numbers on folder names at 57:47 :)
Thanks for spotting that and letting me know. All blurred out now (or at least when UA-cam processes it!)
Hi how do I get 360mpgui? Link is not working
digiex.net/threads/xbox-360-mp-gui-download-title-update-media-id-manager-create-extract-iso.11142/
online compatible?
No. You'll get your account blocked if you try to use Microsoft Live. There are ways around it but I'd advise against it. I always leave the block live settings turned on in DashLaunch.
Why did you hide your cpu key surly no one can use it
I'm not sure what you can do with the values but it seems like a good idea to hide them. I know the serial number lets you register a console as yours in the Microsoft Live system.
theres an rgh 3.0 no need for an s model i hate that touch trash i would buy an e modle
It does get a bit confusing about the models. I just stick to S so I know it's OK.
Looks to complicated to do, put mines up on sale with a few classic games
If you're ok with soldering it's fairly straightforward.
@@BytesNBits eye sight not good as what is used 2 be , don't have any of the kit,
