The day has finally come to hack an Xbox 360. After being interested in the idea for a while I was finally convinced it was time with the list of Xbox Live Arcade games that have been delisted to open up a 360 and set out to hardmod the system with the Reset Glitch method.
Good tutorial for how to do this: • How to RGH3 a Xbox 360...

I love how these kinds of videos start off with … “oh this is incredibly simple to do” proceeds with an incredibly difficult set of instructions in the video.
Yes I am wanting to mod my WiiU but I just haven’t the time or energy to do it right now 😂
They seem to think that anything short of manufacturing your own silicon is easy 😂
Easy is hit these three buttons and unplug this, and bam there you go. Or just plug in this USB and watch it go lol
8:24 He said“I made that sound easier than it is” bro I couldn’t even keep up with that 😂
He's flexing on us forsure 😂
@@sandman8920WiiU is soooo easy tho
@@isaacddestroy3674so og xbox endgame softmod
The lack of a softmod really meant the homebrew scene would never get very large for the 360
For what it’s worth, getting one that’s already modded costs about as much as a refurbished unit.
Yeah. Honestly, I wish there was a softmod for the Xbox 360. I would do it in a heartbeat if there was some kind of exploit software wise so there's no need to open it up and do anything.

I have a modded 360 and just recently modded my OG Xbox for playing Halo 2 online and man it has been a blast this week!
How’s the Halo 2 scene? I have a modded Xbox but I haven’t checked out anything online yet. I used to play it all the time back then but don’t play online anymore since last gen. It’d be cool to check it out back on og Xbox, I figured the people there are people who actually want to have fun.
@@systematicallyshocked it’s been a ton of fun on Halo 2. Feels like a crazy bit of nostalgia and me and my buddy found matches on Team Slayer consistently. We won about 2 matches and some people you can tell have been playing non stop since it’s online again. It’s free to play and the process is relatively simple to play on live through insignia. Adding friends works again as well as sending voice messages and voice chat it’s been a chill experience and no cheaters of course just people wanting to relive the glory days of Halo and Xbox. I highly recommend it as it’s the main reason I’m playing my OG Xbox right now
@@systematicallyshockedjust last week the xbox halo 2 multiplayer servers have been rebooted by a 3rd party tho I think u need to set it up somehow Generalkidd made a video on it
@@systematicallyshocked On the OG Xbox: Insignia just came out which plays the same as the original Xbox Live. Unfortunately it doesn't work on 360/Xbone/Series S/X. But Insignia also works for other games there's just a small population.
@@hamcheese3532 thanks! I’ll check it out.
I did this exact mod back in Oct last year. Its totally worth it if use a 2Tb drive cause you'll be able to put 250-400 games on it.
Is the 2tb drive compatible with the old Jasper models...?
@@ahsanvirk130I’d assume so because the operating system (software) would be the one reading it. But yeah it’s always good to double check.
I have 2tb with Aurora and have about 800 xboxlive arcade games
its available on ebay.. ?
I attempted it and ruined the motherboard. I’m jealous of people who can do it successfully.
Soldering is definitely where I checked out
Soldering is actually a good thing to practice. You get better with time and when you can get better tools you can get to do many difficult things.
I manage to install an X-Station on a PSX, and believe me, it's not easy AT ALL.
It’s a pricey in terms of mistakes but very worth it
I suggest taking a board from like an old remote or something and practicing on that. Also not sure what you’re into as far as games go, but I cut my teeth on a custom hitbox style controller for fighting games a learned a lot from that experience.
I opened a never before used xbox 360 last year and it was so cool unboxing an older console. It was also my first time seeing the blade menu
That’s amazing
My first 360 had the blade menu and I got that in I believe 08 or 09? Was a great dash but I prefer NXE
I have a Phat Falcon that I RGH3'ed for my kids and for nostalgia purposes. Reliability on boot can be hit or miss, but I find that when the TV is on and set to the correct input before powering on the 360, it seems to work more often.
I have their TV set up to allow HDMI CEC so that they don't have to search for inputs using the remote. So they typically turn on a console, then the TV just comes on and goes to the correct input automatically.
360 doesn't support CEC. Xbox One doesn't support CEC. Xbox One X doesn't support CEC. Series S and X didn't support CEC when first released. HDMI handshake might be the issue you're seeing.
"I used a cliché video title format in the current year. Here's why."
I just picked up Dante's Inferno for my X360 its such a underrated game.
That Super Bowl trailer for Dante's Inferno is still in the back of my head all these years later lol
Dantes Inferno is masterpiece series.
@@XBX1MASTERseries? It's a single game
@@randybobandy9828 I meant it belongs in a group of masterpiece titles. I have more than 1 game I consider a masterpiece.
Great game even if it is a God of War clone.
I have one of these with a 2TB SSD filled with 500+ games and I still use it every week. I love it!
You did this mod?
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e No, it was modded when I bought it. I updated it to the latest dashboard, I installed the hacked OG Xbox compatibility, I upgraded to SSD and I configured it all from scratch myself though.
I'll tell you, transferring over 500+ games was a pain in the ass and took its sweet time.
I doubt it. They probably bought a modded 360.
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e It was RGH-modded before I bought it but I did buy the SSD separately and I configured it all myself though. Transferring all those games and ripping 100+ of my own game discs was a chore I hope to avoid ever doing again. It took forever.
Looks awesome. Thanks for the appetizer. 😊 I’ve also been wanting to do this mod for a long time. So far, I have only non-slim 360s. Maybe, now is a good time to get a slim 360 and try out this mod. 🙃
Modded 360's were always so fascinating to me, I had like 3 friends growing up around 2008-2010 that had modded Xboxes and I remember seeing their custom interfaces and thinking "man, I want one of these". The hardware modifications is what always held me back though. 😅 I have a bit more experience now with hardware mods though! I might have to give this a shot eventually.
Back in 2008 you couldn't mod an Xbox if it was updated past the blades dashboard. So anyone who went on Xbox live made it impossible to mod it ever again until many years later when they found a new method to mod them.
I wish I had the skills to do this. I love my 360 and have been interested in this for years.
Just buy one that's modded.
You have the ability. You lack the confidence. Soldering is super simple all things considered
@@WeneedaplagueExactly, you dont get pushed out the womb with these skills. I was selling 10-15 jtagged Xbox’s a month (before slim model came out)before that I was hosting 10th prestige lobbies. I learnt how to tag an Xbox when I was 12 cuz I wanted to be in 10th prestige lobbies but said hey let me learn It myself.
If you love your 360, you'd keep it stock. Enjoy it's limitations, if you had a device that could do anything, where is the fun in that
It’s also dependent on how much you think it’s worth doing. Meaning what will you actually do and play? If there is a large library you’d want to get to then go for it, why not? Don’t look back later and say “man I wish I…”, but if there isn’t a ton and you’re happy stock, that’s also cool. Lots of 360 games are still inexpensive. I buy physically still for 360.
But if you’re too worried best bet would to find a cheap 360 somewhere and work on that so you feel more comfortable not messing up your own. Trust me, I don’t have steady hands worth a heck, but I was able to solder (a different console). It’s not as worrisome as you might think, and once you get the hang of it, it becomes more natural.
I did this mod specifically to play DLC that’s already been taken down years ago. Really worth it for me in that regard.
Love your channel.. awesome work.
One of my favorite things from X360 was the indie game section. Games like Castle Miner Z and Murder Miners was xbox 360 for a lot of us
Any chance you do a video on must download 360 games that are not BC before the store gets shutdown in June?
Taping very precisely around PLL before trying to expose it can save you if you were to slip as it might save you from cutting through the trace that is right next to it. If you cut that trace it's all over and the system is dead unless you do a trace repair.
Also advisable to heat shrink around the resistor in case of shorting against the shield.
If you destroy post 1 you can recover by tapping in on the otherside of the board with a postfix adaptor.
I don't think there are alternative points for the other three unfortunately.
Trinity is the easiest install, early corona not too bad either.
I've been thinking of doing this for awhile and the Pico flash method you did with pins is actually very smart. I may have to try that!
I kinda want to buy a second 360 to mod it and keep one "legit". Still have an account with tons of delisted games (I even have Simpsons Arcade demo on my account, which can still be redownloaded, all those files are still on Xbox servers. I regret never buying the full version, didn't expect it to get delisted so quickly), NFS MW 2005 probably the most rare digital game I own, and other valuable stuff that I don't want to lose access to, as well as an option to earn achievements and play online. With store closing in July, I'm planning to buy a lot of digital-only titles and move to retails discs.
Nice video! I want to mod mine too now! Is it straight away replace the lens with exact same one or does it needs calibration? Never tried it before 😁
Great TechWave Video Jon(SW).
Defo too much for me too do lol.
Definitely a brilliant Mod, especially for the Xbox Arcade Games alone.
i really wish i could do this myself now, there are alot of games you just can't get anymore and id love to play them again the way i did back in the day, even some that weren't released in Australia properly would be nice to get too
Didn’t realize the pico was able to do this now. Appreciate videos like this, got a new project now!
I missed the boat on getting a lot of legacy Xbox 360 Arcade games before they were delisted because of licensing issues like the TMNT arcade game, the remade Turtles in Time and The Simpsons Arcade game so I would love this.
I just re-did mine a few weeks ago as well. I hadn’t touched it in years and decided to format and start from scratch. A lot of the DLCs are hard to find now. But yes, XBLA is the main highlight of hacking it
@@AndyTolly123 You have to find and download DLC packs separately, transfer them over and then activate them using homebrew software (can't remember what the specific software is called).
Yes @@AndyTolly123
Used this exact mod method myself a month ago with my Corona and added a 2tb internal drive, so much content to go through after the mod not just games but collecting all Avatar items and gamer pics as well as each games DLC and title updates 😅.
Also @ 10:37 ripping discs is alot easier when you use Auroras GOD disc extract script found within Auroras script install section.
Freestyle Dash has an option to insert the disc & start copying the disc contents without highlighting all files, it's an older custom dash I personally think it looks nicer than Aurora.
I picked up a RGH back in January of this year and I've been having a blast playing games from my childhood and games I never got to play. It's been a fun couple of months!
You can absolutely dump the discs like normal. You go into the plugins section, I think, then you download the app for dumping 360 games.
I'd love some clean install kits for the 360 like Project Stellar for the OG Xbox
I modded mine a few years ago. Hardest part was the NAND read/write. Installed a RGH chip and works great, boot cycle is low as well.
7:34 I used a fibreglass pen to remove the silk screen on mine. I was paranoid I was going to slip with the exacto knife and cut other traces or knock small components off the board if I did slip
Aurora has scripts in the menu to rip games, you don't have to do all that manually. You also don't have to have all your xbla and og Xbox games showing with your 360 games. Using the bumpers on the controller can switch what types of games you want to play. You also can setup title updates if you want to get online with it.
Can you still take it online? How about local system link with XB1 or XSX?
The phats are just as good. It depends on which motherboard revision you get. Ideally you get a tonasket, not a xenon/zephyre. As you said though, RGH 3 is extremely hit or miss on phats, so you want to do RGH 1.2 using a mod chip. I've used coolrunners on both my tonasket and xenon (xenon got all new capacitors and is the good gpu). You can also use dirtypico to flash the mod chip timings. The trinity slims are the easiest to RGH tbh.
I don't remember having to use a chip when jailbreak the Xbox 360 and I did a bunch of them. It was just wires and resistors. Sure, there were manufacturered ribbion type circuit boards that you could buy, but that was just to make it easier. I always used cat 5 cable wire and resistors on all different versions of the Xbox 360.
Incoming Microsoft Ninjas.. Oh wait they arent Nintendo
But Nintendo still pay decently high yearly dividends. I condone Nintendo’s actions so long as they continue to enrich me.
A bonus thing is, it triggers people like you. 🤣😂
The only people having any issue with Nintendo Ninjas are the people doing problematic things.
Nintendo doesn't harass people over Wii or Wii U hacking lol. The 360 is the same age as the Wii, older, even.
@@cbgg1585 "Like you"!?
Lol!😂
If there were any softmods for the Xbox 360 that DIDN’T require physical modification, I would do so in a heartbeat. Granted, soldering isn’t THAT difficult but you REALLY need to know what you’re doing. Half-assing it isn’t an option, it has to be on point
Had one of these back in the day, wish I never sold it. If I can find my old harddrive I might need to pick another one up
I want to mod mine just to play Shoalin Monks. That is one of the best beat em ups ever. It's sad that it's not on backwards compatibility in an official capacity
Great stuff i want to see more like this
It transcribes as him saying "hit" that like button, but I only hear... that like button.. 😂
I'm not sure if I missed it, but did you mention that once you mod your xbox like this, it can never go back online, or it will get console banned? Not really even sure if that matters anymore...
Pretty sure you wouldn’t get banned unless you cheated/hacked online yet
@@itselijah535 My modded 360 got banned and I never played online with it, let alone cheat or do any hacking.
Yes the console can get perma banned but there are ways around that
It's a concern but much like the PS3, not much you'll miss out on
Just don't use your main account.
I might pick one up for all the rpgs I missed in the xbox era
Stupid question but I was wondering why haven't they done this with the newer Xboxes yet by putting the music player that was on the 360 the new Xboxes the one where you can rip music on your 360 and then it would be installed on your Xbox 360 so if I insert a disc I can rip the music onto it and it would show all the names on there of each song that's one thing that I don't understand why they don't have that on the newer consoles for the series X because honestly I thought that was the coolest feature for Xbox 360
It’s pretty amazing that Microsoft has basically gone 2 generations at this point without their console getting exploited. There was a time when it seemed like every console would be hacked eventually.
So little reason to. No real big exclusives, there's Dev mode to put on homebrew and emulation already. Microsoft won by giving everyone what they wanted
@@redmage08Exactly. You can easily mod everything
There's no point at having an xbox, so there's no point modding one.
It's great that they give people ways to run homebrew.
Though I wonder how Xbox One and Xbox Series will be emulated in the future. How will we dump our games, DLC, and title updates?
@@nkjellmanit's called PC gaming lol
Damn bro almost a mil. I was your 14th sub 😂
I have 2 RGH Xbox 360 slim both with 2tb hdd. I bought the first one for $350 and the second one for $100 Canadian.
Easiest Mod I found and done personally was to flash the disc drive, and then download ISO files and then patch the games, and finally burn via ISO Burn on DL discs. Definitely a good mod which was also simple by probing the drive.
For those new to board level work, a little hot glue is great on wires left in place. Hot glue comes off with isopropyl too
My fave was a free dash with onboard temps and ram speeds jtag and more solid state if you could get it to emulate a hdd
I remember getting console-banned for doing something similar to this when the 360 was current, but I don’t recall there being a custom os at the time. This looks amazing; I kinda wanna pick up a 360 now.
It all depends. I had 2 modded Xbox 360s back in 2008. First one was just a DVD mod that made it possible to play burned games, that you could play online with. The second was a jtag modded Xbox and it had custom backgrounds, homebrew games, the ability to have all the Xbl arcade games for free and you could also run all your disc games off of a external hdd. This was NOT ok to go online because you risked it getting banned and if you updated the system it would unmod your Xbox because you needed a Xbox that still had the blades dashboard since the firmware updated a patch to stop xboxs from being jtag modded. Unfortunately it got RROD and I havent bothered to fix it but I want to at some point.
buy a modded one. it sounds like it needs to stay offline though.
Hate to break it to you but Ninja Blade was released on PC for a while on steam before it got pulled from the store
i got two my self but man it takes forever to download and transfer games to them
Man this reminds me of the darknet diaries podcast. The 'xbox underground'. They just got lucky with DEV kits haha!
Did I just see the "Spawn MicroWave......" in the sponsored video part?
Would this work on a Xbox 360 E? I bought the e 500 gb as it was it great condition and was manufactured in 2015 .
No, Those had the Winchester motherboards which cannot be hard modded. You will need another earlier console if you want to hard mod a 360.
@@brettanderson6743 thanks man it is what is i enjoy the look of the e 360
Could you still earn achievements on an xbox live account? Or do you risk getting banned for being online on a modded console?
if you go online on a modded console without a stealth server it gets insta console banned
You can still earn achievements on a modded console. Yes you will get banned, even as soon as using the network test
Doing the RGH 3 mod is the ultimate way to preserve and play xbox 360 titles. With subscription services and streaming being the norm, soon you won't be able to purchase/own games, only rent them indefinitely. I for one, want to own my games FOREVER. As it should be. Mark my words, the gaming industry as a whole is trying to create a monopoly. They're already a good chunk of the way there by making the Series S and PS5 digital.
The trend is everything being released for Windows. PS and XBOX are PCs. There's little to nothing custom about them other than security so Sony and MS don't lose their shirts selling the hardware below cost.
I want to do this specifically for goldeneye xbla I wish they just officially launched that version 😢
there's so many games that i never got to experience because they were delisted eons ago, i feel like doing this would be good so i can access those and a lot of dlc that was also delisted
I did this to my 360 elite and never looked back
I've had a jtag 360 for years now, best way to play games from that generation
There’s a way you can run and install an emulator on the newer gen xbox ( series s / x ) for those that dont wanna solder a pico chip to their 360 motherboard ( you have to pay a fee to run your console on dev mode though )
mine got RDOD yesterday, so i bought a new one... im pissed off.... the code was E79 and then no video and the lights said 4141. if anyone can help me with a fix let me know please

Actually, the last revisions of the original models, Jasper and Tonasket have proven to be the most reliable Xbox 360s you can get. They are more reliable than Slims. I have seen many Slims fail recently while I have yet to see a Jasper or Tonasket suffer a GPU failure.
I just found out that i have a jasper model but thing is, i dont know how to solder :( really wanna do this tho
I need someone to do this for my Xbox 360 slim. I I do it, I know it'll never work again.
wise choice. I have already ruined two trying this mod out.
I have mine softmodded and with the xexmenu and dashboards installed. It worked fine for me. I’ve not used it for while now as I’ve been more interested in Original Xbox
Having marble blast ultra back on 360 would be sweet
I wish the xbox one would have some kind of breakthrough in the modding scene.
I knew many guys who were buying them and having no understanding how to update them.
The Slims are reliable, but they aren't as reliable as late Falcon/Jasper/Tonasket fat revisions and those are just the coolest
I had my white Falcon RGH'd awhile back and love it. But now regret sending in a 320gb drive instead of a 1 or 2 tb drive.
Is Shaolin Monks compatible now?
It wouldn't let you do the first fatality.
I considered buying one but i already bought all the games that are of interest to me either physically or digitally . Maybe later on for a few Japanese exclusive shumps . If only the modding procedure was easy to do .
This is awesome. While we like the news stuff....this is what the channel use to be....you need to get back to more hands on stuff.

Guys give me advice. I have a rog ally. But i was gonna buy retro consoles. I want to condense my set up. I already have xbox sx and ps5. I was gonna buy a wii, wii u. Gamecube. Ps2, ps3, psp, ps vita, 2dsxl 3dsxl, xbox 360. And og xbox. Which consoles can i skip? Me and my wife are into gaming and really love the classics all offer
I prefer original hardware too, and using mods to load backups of games to play them. I’ve had too many problems with emulation so I stopped even trying that!
I considered doing this but then I looked over the games and realised I could just play them all on PC, so didn't bother.
I was out once he started soldering. I’m ok with discrete components, but when I get near a circuit board I destroy it.
Me too, 94 games on a 1tb ssd mostly £2-6.
With FSD homebrew it makes a folder auto names and sorts it and rips all files of the disc
So does Aurora just need to install the GOD script within Aurora.
I did this 3 months ago because as a kid I had a ps3 so I didn't get to play games like halo and gears, It was the hardest soldering project I've finished but worth it. also its great because I get free games lol
Question please! Does Wrestlemania 21 run on your 360?
No, don't think so
Seems the Xbox 360 is still one of the most complicated consoles to mod.
Ninja Blade is a fun game. Definitely comes across as a Ninja Gaiden clone, but not quite as good. Better than NG3 though.
Came to listen about Xbox live arcade. I didn't have it back in the day and just recently realized it has some really cool games.. a South Park one for instance.
Do i have to mod it this way iam only new to doing cfw or software modding
I'm hoping that eventually, a soft mod method is discovered
I feel if there was a way of soft modding the 360 it would have been discovered long before now. considering we have had 2 gens release after this, it would have been out already. I do have my og Xbox soft modded and it's great. Would def love to be able to do it with my 360 but I don't have any tech knowledge to solder etc
@@Klynch111 you're probably right, but I'll hold out hope
Interestingly, I just got myself a 360 slim with a Kinect for $20 at a local thrift store, did the RGH3 mod, and while inside, discovered it was eerily clean !!
IMO it's worth it 😊
Can you Please tell me how do I get a 3.6V battery For my ps vita 2000 ?
Where can I just buy it already modded
I REALLY want to do this but yeah I have essentially zero solder experience so I can't do it
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats an RGH XBOX 360.
I'm not up to the mod so I just bought a jtag modded one for like $150ish USD on eBay. Well worth it. So awesome. Aurora is super clean and easy to use. Awesome system.
I'd love to hack my 360, but I have no experience with soldering. Even just taking it apart looks scary.
I did 2 rgh3 mods and absolutely enjoy the setup.
How safe is this? I'd like to do this to pick up delisted games but don't want my account banned.
Don't go online using stock dashboard with a modded console, console with be instantly banned. Other than that its all good
TLDR: I recommend the Xbox 360 Elite over the Slim.
In terms of which 360 model is best for modification, here's my experience for what it's worth. I've modded two 360's, a Slim and an Elite. The fat elite has a Jasper mobo and the Slim is Trinity. I tried to set them up as similar as possible and from my experience the fat old girl is better than the slim. It runs far cooler (I changed the thermal paste in both), and therefore quieter. Although the slim has quieter fans than the fat, they obviously need to run faster to keep it cool. Aurora dash loads faster and runs more smoothly on the fat, and I also had some difficulty getting some XBLA games running on the slim due to security checks. This might vary for other people and perhaps I set things up wrong on the slim, or maybe that matches other people's experience.
Jaspers have actually proven to be more reliable than slims in more recent years. afaik the eDRAM wasn't made as well and is starting to go bad on some of them, which causes E82 (E74 for slims).
I recently got all the parts for this mod including the Post Fix Adapter for safeties sake. Seeing that you didn't even need the PFA gives me much more hope for success once I get another hard drive to work with since my stock drive is full and I don't want to wipe it. A question I do have is whether or not the console is still safe to take online after this mod. Information is scattered/dated/fuzzy on that subject.
Yeah the OG Xbox and the Wii are the two kings of the homebrew scene.
