It’s pretty amazing that Microsoft has basically gone 2 generations at this point without their console getting exploited. There was a time when it seemed like every console would be hacked eventually.
So little reason to. No real big exclusives, there's Dev mode to put on homebrew and emulation already. Microsoft won by giving everyone what they wanted
It's great that they give people ways to run homebrew. Though I wonder how Xbox One and Xbox Series will be emulated in the future. How will we dump our games, DLC, and title updates?
Easiest Mod I found and done personally was to flash the disc drive, and then download ISO files and then patch the games, and finally burn via ISO Burn on DL discs. Definitely a good mod which was also simple by probing the drive.
Used this exact mod method myself a month ago with my Corona and added a 2tb internal drive, so much content to go through after the mod not just games but collecting all Avatar items and gamer pics as well as each games DLC and title updates 😅. Also @ 10:37 ripping discs is alot easier when you use Auroras GOD disc extract script found within Auroras script install section.

I picked up a RGH back in January of this year and I've been having a blast playing games from my childhood and games I never got to play. It's been a fun couple of months!
I missed the boat on getting a lot of legacy Xbox 360 Arcade games before they were delisted because of licensing issues like the TMNT arcade game, the remade Turtles in Time and The Simpsons Arcade game so I would love this.
mine got RDOD yesterday, so i bought a new one... im pissed off.... the code was E79 and then no video and the lights said 4141. if anyone can help me with a fix let me know please
Hey mate. The E79 error code indicates that your Xbox 360 has either a corrupted file system or a hard drive problem. Seeing as you have checked the HDD and confirmed it is functional, I'm thinking it might be a software/NAND chip based problem. Two questions; Have you installed any system updates recently? And is E79, the only error code that is showing up? Two possible solutions that I have found, in regards to software are; Clearing any failed system updates that could have caused the error: To do this, simply press and hold the sync up button, when the console is switched off (on the 360 S, it is the button, next to the USB ports). Then, turn on then console while holding that button. Continue holding it until the console has completely booted up and the dashboard appears. The console would've automatically cleared any failed system updates during the boot process. Or, if you can get to the dashboard (try doing so without the HDD) try re installing the System Update (if you have recently done one) that possibly might have caused this: To do this, go into System Settings > Memory > then hit in this order: Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X > Yes. If this doesn't fix it, I'll have a larger dig around for a solution, hopefully after some sleep. Non the less, I do hope it helps you.
Doing the RGH 3 mod is the ultimate way to preserve and play xbox 360 titles. With subscription services and streaming being the norm, soon you won't be able to purchase/own games, only rent them indefinitely. I for one, want to own my games FOREVER. As it should be. Mark my words, the gaming industry as a whole is trying to create a monopoly. They're already a good chunk of the way there by making the Series S and PS5 digital.
The trend is everything being released for Windows. PS and XBOX are PCs. There's little to nothing custom about them other than security so Sony and MS don't lose their shirts selling the hardware below cost.
10:45 pure nonsense, you can rip the disc in the original dashboard and it's all automatic and it's then also accessible in both dashes then as well, the way you're showing is long-winded and then won't be accessible in the original dash
I may be a bit late to this, but just fyi for those that want to do this but are not able to solder, check any retro game shop or electronics repair store. The game shops will more than likely have skilled modders available that would normallyvjust be tapped to restore and refresh older beat up consoles.
I don't remember having to use a chip when jailbreak the Xbox 360 and I did a bunch of them. It was just wires and resistors. Sure, there were manufacturered ribbion type circuit boards that you could buy, but that was just to make it easier. I always used cat 5 cable wire and resistors on all different versions of the Xbox 360.
I thinks it better modifying a PS3 than a Xbox 360. Mann that's a whole lot of hassle to get to the point of having it modified. Thanks for your commitment in showing us how you made it tho!
I know of a couple but I'm trying to see what people consider the best send-in service company! What company provides the best send-in service for 360 modding?
There’s a way you can run and install an emulator on the newer gen xbox ( series s / x ) for those that dont wanna solder a pico chip to their 360 motherboard ( you have to pay a fee to run your console on dev mode though )
I did this 3 months ago because as a kid I had a ps3 so I didn't get to play games like halo and gears, It was the hardest soldering project I've finished but worth it. also its great because I get free games lol
The phats are just as good. It depends on which motherboard revision you get. Ideally you get a tonasket, not a xenon/zephyre. As you said though, RGH 3 is extremely hit or miss on phats, so you want to do RGH 1.2 using a mod chip. I've used coolrunners on both my tonasket and xenon (xenon got all new capacitors and is the good gpu). You can also use dirtypico to flash the mod chip timings. The trinity slims are the easiest to RGH tbh.
Aurora has scripts in the menu to rip games, you don't have to do all that manually. You also don't have to have all your xbla and og Xbox games showing with your 360 games. Using the bumpers on the controller can switch what types of games you want to play. You also can setup title updates if you want to get online with it.
Sadly... i "bricked" my Xbox 360, and it gives me error code 0010 which needs the console to be resoldered (basically solder joints are bad ((and maybe i shorted the f___ out of the xbox)) And i basically feel bad..
I remember getting console-banned for doing something similar to this when the 360 was current, but I don’t recall there being a custom os at the time. This looks amazing; I kinda wanna pick up a 360 now.
It all depends. I had 2 modded Xbox 360s back in 2008. First one was just a DVD mod that made it possible to play burned games, that you could play online with. The second was a jtag modded Xbox and it had custom backgrounds, homebrew games, the ability to have all the Xbl arcade games for free and you could also run all your disc games off of a external hdd. This was NOT ok to go online because you risked it getting banned and if you updated the system it would unmod your Xbox because you needed a Xbox that still had the blades dashboard since the firmware updated a patch to stop xboxs from being jtag modded. Unfortunately it got RROD and I havent bothered to fix it but I want to at some point.
with a stealth server yes you can get online with xbox live. but there are paid stealth servers that require a subscription with many great addon features. and there are free stealths aswell but one i would recommend (proto)
Guys give me advice. I have a rog ally. But i was gonna buy retro consoles. I want to condense my set up. I already have xbox sx and ps5. I was gonna buy a wii, wii u. Gamecube. Ps2, ps3, psp, ps vita, 2dsxl 3dsxl, xbox 360. And og xbox. Which consoles can i skip? Me and my wife are into gaming and really love the classics all offer
I prefer original hardware too, and using mods to load backups of games to play them. I’ve had too many problems with emulation so I stopped even trying that!
I found my old Xbox 360 in my storage room. Was thinking of just repairing the cd reader (doesn’t read any cds) and buying some second hand cds. Is it more worth it to just jtag the console itself from my local game store and install the games myself?
Stupid question but I was wondering why haven't they done this with the newer Xboxes yet by putting the music player that was on the 360 the new Xboxes the one where you can rip music on your 360 and then it would be installed on your Xbox 360 so if I insert a disc I can rip the music onto it and it would show all the names on there of each song that's one thing that I don't understand why they don't have that on the newer consoles for the series X because honestly I thought that was the coolest feature for Xbox 360
doing RGH3 was my first hardmod and also first time soldering, i had nothing but wires, pi pico and pinecil soldering iron, and did all of it in 3 hours, i always hear that it's suppose to be really not beginner friendly but it really wasn't that hard, and i also forgot to but flux so it was all done "dry"
I was never really able to prioritize gaming and getting the latest console or playing the coolest new online games with my friends, i was still on the ps2 and Xbox 360 up till 2018. I basically played three or four games and that’s it, like tony hawk underground, ratchet and clank, and assassins creed. So it’s really cool to be able to grab these older consoles and get all the games i never got to play and go through them with my kids now. My first mod was a psp1000, always wanted a psp and never had one so i grabbed one when i found out i could mod it and get pretty much every game i ever wanted for it for free. Thinking I’m gonna have to do this to my old 360 that i gave my son a couple years ago
hey im very late but with the mod menu or whatever shown in this video, can i obtain gamerscore from games (not spawning it, but actually getting achievements) when its modded?
I want to mod mine just to play Shoalin Monks. That is one of the best beat em ups ever. It's sad that it's not on backwards compatibility in an official capacity

For those new to board level work, a little hot glue is great on wires left in place. Hot glue comes off with isopropyl too
Would this work on a Xbox 360 E? I bought the e 500 gb as it was it great condition and was manufactured in 2015 .
No, Those had the Winchester motherboards which cannot be hard modded. You will need another earlier console if you want to hard mod a 360.
@@brettanderson6743 thanks man it is what is i enjoy the look of the e 360
Model Es are only moddable if made in 2013 (corona motherboard) the end of 2013 (iirc november?) and on were winchesters and unmoddable
@@redmage08Exactly. You can easily mod everything
There's no point at having an xbox, so there's no point modding one.
It's great that they give people ways to run homebrew.
Though I wonder how Xbox One and Xbox Series will be emulated in the future. How will we dump our games, DLC, and title updates?
@@nkjellmanit's called PC gaming lol
Easiest Mod I found and done personally was to flash the disc drive, and then download ISO files and then patch the games, and finally burn via ISO Burn on DL discs. Definitely a good mod which was also simple by probing the drive.
Used this exact mod method myself a month ago with my Corona and added a 2tb internal drive, so much content to go through after the mod not just games but collecting all Avatar items and gamer pics as well as each games DLC and title updates 😅.
Also @ 10:37 ripping discs is alot easier when you use Auroras GOD disc extract script found within Auroras script install section.
7:34 I used a fibreglass pen to remove the silk screen on mine. I was paranoid I was going to slip with the exacto knife and cut other traces or knock small components off the board if I did slip
Might try this. Thanks for the suggestion!
i got two my self but man it takes forever to download and transfer games to them
I picked up a RGH back in January of this year and I've been having a blast playing games from my childhood and games I never got to play. It's been a fun couple of months!
I missed the boat on getting a lot of legacy Xbox 360 Arcade games before they were delisted because of licensing issues like the TMNT arcade game, the remade Turtles in Time and The Simpsons Arcade game so I would love this.
Any chance you do a video on must download 360 games that are not BC before the store gets shutdown in June?
*BC ? WHAT DO YOU MEAN*
trueachievements dude.
His 'must play' does not necessarily mean your 'must play'.
mine got RDOD yesterday, so i bought a new one... im pissed off.... the code was E79 and then no video and the lights said 4141. if anyone can help me with a fix let me know please
Two possible solutions that I have found, in regards to software are;
Clearing any failed system updates that could have caused the error:
To do this, simply press and hold the sync up button, when the console is switched off (on the 360 S, it is the button, next to the USB ports). Then, turn on then console while holding that button. Continue holding it until the console has completely booted up and the dashboard appears. The console would've automatically cleared any failed system updates during the boot process.
Or, if you can get to the dashboard (try doing so without the HDD) try re installing the System Update (if you have recently done one) that possibly might have caused this:
To do this, go into System Settings > Memory > then hit in this order: Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X > Yes.
I'd love some clean install kits for the 360 like Project Stellar for the OG Xbox
I may be a bit late to this, but just fyi for those that want to do this but are not able to solder, check any retro game shop or electronics repair store. The game shops will more than likely have skilled modders available that would normallyvjust be tapped to restore and refresh older beat up consoles.
I modded mine a few years ago. Hardest part was the NAND read/write. Installed a RGH chip and works great, boot cycle is low as well.
I have 2 RGH Xbox 360 slim both with 2tb hdd. I bought the first one for $350 and the second one for $100 Canadian.
I thinks it better modifying a PS3 than a Xbox 360. Mann that's a whole lot of hassle to get to the point of having it modified. Thanks for your commitment in showing us how you made it tho!
I knew many guys who were buying them and having no understanding how to update them.
I know of a couple but I'm trying to see what people consider the best send-in service company! What company provides the best send-in service for 360 modding?
That would be be.
World class designer now making arcades.
I'm making 4 player units right now.
Ghostbusters led console theme
The Raspberry Pico is like a swiss army knife. I just soldered some pins to the thing and use wires with male/female dupont connectors.
I considered doing this but then I looked over the games and realised I could just play them all on PC, so didn't bother.
Hate to break it to you but Ninja Blade was released on PC for a while on steam before it got pulled from the store
There’s a way you can run and install an emulator on the newer gen xbox ( series s / x ) for those that dont wanna solder a pico chip to their 360 motherboard ( you have to pay a fee to run your console on dev mode though )
Dev mode is amazing!
Great video! I've been trying to rip my og xbox Games disc to the hdd, but I can't figure out how?
Had one of these back in the day, wish I never sold it. If I can find my old harddrive I might need to pick another one up
Aurora has scripts in the menu to rip games, you don't have to do all that manually. You also don't have to have all your xbla and og Xbox games showing with your 360 games. Using the bumpers on the controller can switch what types of games you want to play. You also can setup title updates if you want to get online with it.
Nice video! I want to mod mine too now! Is it straight away replace the lens with exact same one or does it needs calibration? Never tried it before 😁
Sadly... i "bricked" my Xbox 360, and it gives me error code 0010 which needs the console to be resoldered (basically solder joints are bad ((and maybe i shorted the f___ out of the xbox))
And i basically feel bad..
I need someone to do this for my Xbox 360 slim. I I do it, I know it'll never work again.
wise choice. I have already ruined two trying this mod out.
It transcribes as him saying "hit" that like button, but I only hear... that like button.. 😂
Unfortunately it got RROD and I havent bothered to fix it but I want to at some point.
buy a modded one. it sounds like it needs to stay offline though.
@@majorgear1021it doesn't. You can use a modded 360 online no problem using a stealth server
Love your channel.. awesome work.. Soldering is definitely where I checked out.
Can you still take it online? How about local system link with XB1 or XSX?
Local YES - MP no
with a stealth server yes you can get online with xbox live. but there are paid stealth servers that require a subscription with many great addon features. and there are free stealths aswell but one i would recommend (proto)
New to the modding scene all you gotta do is click and download all the games??
Love your channel.. awesome work.
Where can I just buy it already modded
does it matter if you use PAL or NTSC backups for a modded Xbox 360?
No depends how you get the file iso or disc?
Wait a second, you can use the Pico to flash it? Do you still need the glitch chip?
All you need is a pico you don't need a flasher.also It's cheaper to purchase a pico
The pico will flash it
hey im very late but with the mod menu or whatever shown in this video, can i obtain gamerscore from games (not spawning it, but actually getting achievements) when its modded?
What game is being played at 12:52? Thanks!
Is there a way to back up games so you don't need the disk ?
Video starts at 2:25
I want to mod mine just to play Shoalin Monks. That is one of the best beat em ups ever. It's sad that it's not on backwards compatibility in an official capacity
I want to do this specifically for goldeneye xbla I wish they just officially launched that version 😢
I've been thinking of doing this for awhile and the Pico flash method you did with pins is actually very smart. I may have to try that!
The Slims are reliable, but they aren't as reliable as late Falcon/Jasper/Tonasket fat revisions and those are just the coolest
I had my white Falcon RGH'd awhile back and love it. But now regret sending in a 320gb drive instead of a 1 or 2 tb drive.
I wish the xbox one would have some kind of breakthrough in the modding scene.
My fave was a free dash with onboard temps and ram speeds jtag and more solid state if you could get it to emulate a hdd
I was out once he started soldering. I’m ok with discrete components, but when I get near a circuit board I destroy it.
Great TechWave Video Jon(SW).
Defo too much for me too do lol.
Definitely a brilliant Mod, especially for the Xbox Arcade Games alone.
Could you still earn achievements on an xbox live account? Or do you risk getting banned for being online on a modded console?
if you go online on a modded console without a stealth server it gets insta console banned
You can still earn achievements on a modded console. Yes you will get banned, even as soon as using the network test
I did this to my 360 elite and never looked back
Links to your downloads for the Emulators, and Xbox OG tools would be great
With FSD homebrew it makes a folder auto names and sorts it and rips all files of the disc
So does Aurora just need to install the GOD script within Aurora.
i'm in the middle of doing this and i have to say the smallness of the scraping is microscopic and i wish i still had my eyes from my twenties.
Can you Install a larger than 2TB hard drive?
Usb storage I think
I've had a jtag 360 for years now, best way to play games from that generation
How safe is this? I'd like to do this to pick up delisted games but don't want my account banned.
Don't go online using stock dashboard with a modded console, console with be instantly banned. Other than that its all good
Can you Please tell me how do I get a 3.6V battery For my ps vita 2000 ?
there's so many games that i never got to experience because they were delisted eons ago, i feel like doing this would be good so i can access those and a lot of dlc that was also delisted
Seems the Xbox 360 is still one of the most complicated consoles to mod.
Ninja Blade is a fun game. Definitely comes across as a Ninja Gaiden clone, but not quite as good. Better than NG3 though.
Is Shaolin Monks compatible now?
It wouldn't let you do the first fatality.
This is awesome. While we like the news stuff....this is what the channel use to be....you need to get back to more hands on stuff.
All the white 360's didn't have issues. The Jasper version of the white Xbox 360 was very reliable.
