TRAP (2024) Is A Mess - A Review

- It's a difficult case to make that M. Night Shyamalan's Trap - with a budget of $35 million - could be produced on such lazy foundations. At this point in his career, it genuinely does feel like the writer/director has stopped taking notes or redrafting his screenplays at all, once his evidently self-assured ideas have been printed.
There are so many fundamental improvements that could have been made during the pre-production stage, whether it's more closely aligning the structure and beats of the story arcs with their associated themes, or placing more emphasis on the protagonist’s thought process when tackling key escalations in conflict so their solution doesn't always feel so effortless. Significant reworking of the script would have at least allowed Trap to begin production from a point of competence, but obviously would have stripped the film of all charm and ironic entertainment value.
Given Shyamalan's propensity for bizarre characterisation and convoluted justification of plot-holes, I couldn't possibly write off every fundamental issue with the script as examples of legitimate satire, but the film is hilarious and worth a watch for anyone that enjoys this kind of thing.
3/10.
Dude. I loved this review. You didn't spoil anything and nailed pretty much most of it's shortcomings. Gj.
I wanted to like to this movie because it’s an interesting concept. It felt like I was watching Saleka’s concert and the killer awkwardly vibing through the music. Josh was still excellent, though, and I hope to see him portray more villains!
great review. Especially the point about how convenient everything is, and that the script/dialogue needed smoothing over. I found it to be full of awkward exposition, and wooden.
Why do they keep giving him chances and money to make movies?
Great question
Exactly
Simple. A lot of people go to see them. Thus his films make back their budget and are profitable
he finances all his own movies, also people actually want to have fun watching movies and not spend their time thinking about plot holes
Accurate review. Intelligent. In the film’s defence at least it’s not getting slagged off for being a ‘woke’ driven mess. Shyamalan’s daughter’s gig may have upstaged the plot… which is saying something.
Ha ha ha I enjoyed how casually he shoved that young lady down the steps, also.
Probably one of the few actually entertaining moments making the movie worth the watch. Noping out after it ends won’t cause you to miss out on anything else, btw. It’s that bad a movie.
It's pure shit.
The plot doesn't make any kind of sense.
To make a movie like this, it needed:
- to explain to the audience why the protagonist gets so anxious and acts like an idiot
- to have a good plot twist
- to have a believable ending
Logically, it fails miserably in all three cases (except maybe the ending scene with the shop assistant, the real one is laughable) because the director is pure shit.
who the fuck keeps giving this guy money....
They've been in the news lately.
This movie started out so good and it was straight trash by the end.
just watched this another shyamalan movie and as expected, it's a bore fest cringe lame choreography SUPER UNREALISTIC pipedream story circumstances in a film 2/10 wasted my time
when will shyamalan ever learn, seriously wake up dude. you have good ideas but your execution always fall too short!!!
my honest brutal suggestion to shyamalan is keep the fresh IDEAS coming BUT PLEASE give the director role to someone else!!!
the only bright side is this is not worse than madame web
M. needs an intervention.
MF Doom!!
m. night and tyler perry seem to get away with mediocre on the regular
I watched this movie last night and soley IMO this movie is amazing top notch entertainment well worth your time. hartnett was great
I thought it was good so this is a odd opinion to me
Betrayed by his wife smh 🤦🏾♂️
I agree that in the end the movie took a bad path, but all stadium movie was nice, i liked, good movie.
Malisima!!!!!!!! bad ,
a waste of time,
-acting is just BAD,
the story doesn't make any sense AT ALL
Dont waste your time, this is just another BAD MOVIE, a very common thing these days...
Were is the Director of The Sixth Sense?
Just...what the hell is this
Josh Hartness was brilliant, nd Sakela was phenomenal. She is a very talented musician, songwriter, singer and performer. And, she is an excellent actress who all but stole the show when she appeared on screen. Overall this is a thoroughly bone-chilling, spine-tingling, edge of your seat scary movie, on par with PSYCHO which I saw when it first came out. You as shallow as a pizza dish and you just don't get it. Go back to your video games, sonny.
TRASH MOVIE
Sh*t review. It was a good movie.
A *good* movie?
It completely fell apart when they left the stadium. The shift to focus on M.Nigh's annoying daughter.
And the movie wasn't great prior to that.
I liked it a lot. this guy is just a hater with a platform to push hate
"film" is atrocious
