New Rossier R5 Exhaust for my Raptor 700 and YFZ450R

- Today's video shares upgrading my Rossier R4 full exhaust to the new Rossier R5 full exhaust on both my Yamaha Raptor 700 and YFZ450R. I brought both machines to my trusted builder/tuner Jay Jahns of Illinois Powersports for the swap and dyno tuning. I also share before and after exhausts notes on both the machines. Overall I'm definitely impressed with the fit and finish of these new pipes. I also really like the new, quieter exhaust notes as well! Major props to Rossier and Illinois Powersports!

One comment I would like to correct ithat I said was that in our findings over the years a motor will make peak power for about 2 to 3 hours after break in in our opinion,not peak power at 2 1/2 hours. That being said the loss thereafter is so gradual over a period of time that it really isn't noticed.

@@ilpwrsprts oh i thought it was related to the performance gains of the exhaust as the packing blows out.

Fairly same performance but I would go with the r4 because it looks sick and it louder. Look like a canon. 💥

I’m really happy with it! The packing on my old R4 was due to be replaced but the new 5 definitely has a cleaner exhaust note that’s not quite as peaky 😊
Wow i gotta say the new pipes sound waaay better. When i was shopping for a pipe for my Raptor how loud the original pipe was is what steered me away from it. That and the lack of spark arrestor. The new pipe sounds very nice. Much improved imo. I still love my Yoshimura pipe but if i was in the market for a new one would consider the r5 for sure. I wish I had a good tuner near me like that, really would love to get mine dyno tuned some day.

i just got a raptor 700R it came with a aftermarket exhaust boy they sound sweet. but the exhaust you are rocking is top notch i want one lol
Love my r5 and the video sound does not do justice. Have to hear it in person. Definitely more throatier and I believe it’s all in the tip vs a straight through flowing exh like the r4 and monster. Personal preference and will choose the r5 all day.

Had a rossier built motor in my ds 450 mx bike loved the motor that rossier exhaust was so loud though near impossible to pass sound check had to baffle it for sound check and pull it out for motos

I miss riding sport quads I had a 2005 honda 450 and a ltr450 I bough both brand new. I had a white Brothers pipe on my Honda and a trinity racing pipe on my ltr450 with there fuel controller and a set of hot cams boy would that thing run.

Im all for aftermarket and would love one of those fancy mufflers but honestly, you can get the same sound from stock. Remove baffling and tweak to your desire. Great video though! Keep up the content 👌

i’ve got a kfx 400 and i’m looking to get a bunch of power and amazing sound from an exhaust but don’t know which one to go with. i’m looking for something decently loud but also gives a lot of power at the same time. i was thinking about getting a rossier r5 so if anybody has one on there 400 lmk how you like it. anybody have any advice?

I never adjusted my vortex and had Jay do a fully custom tune. I would check Facebook ride groups for your machine for recommended settings for your set up 😊👍

When the yfz popped flames when you were revving was sick, I’m looking for a sport quad right now, what would you recommend?
Hey James, I'd say it comes down to your experience and where you'll be riding. If your new to riding then starting with something like a 400 and upgrading down the road would be good. The Honda 400ex is super popular with tons of aftermarket available, it's also an air cooled machine. Otherwise the Suzuki Z400 is another great option and is liquid cooled. I've never had an issue with our 400ex overheating, just letting you know some differences! I tend to advise people lean towards Honda or Yamaha because they have the most aftermarket support available and customizing your machine is half the fun! For big bore If your strictly going to be trail riding/free riding then it's hard to beat the Raptor 700. It's happy going slow or fast and has all the torque you would ever need. The main draw back would be its higher center of gravity which can make it a bit dicy if your jumping or riding really aggressively. If your leaning more towards a 450 then I would go for the Honda TRX450R or the Yamaha YFZ450R. The Honda is a great platform to upgrade and is carbureted. The YFZR being fuel injected is pretty nice and they come a bit more set up with nicer shocks and a wider stance. Yamaha also made the YFZ450 which was also carbureted before the YFZR. That machine is more comparable to the Honda TRX450R in its stock form. 450's are very on/off with the way the power comes on, they don't like to be lugged around and need to be up in the R's to build power. If your going to be jumping regularly I would recommend a 450👍

Not sure if any mechanics are in here but my raptor 700 keeps turning off on cold starts but is fine after it’s warmed up. Please HELP
I have a similar issue with my honda 250ex but what I do is hold the throttle very lightly for a few seconds with choke on. You can also hold a steady throttle while slowly turning the choke off too but I'm no mechanic for small engines but this is what I do and it doesn't appear to hurt the machine.

The Rossier would definitely be sick on the KFX! I’m sure it’ll be a bit louder then the Yoshimura if your looking for a solid exhaust note. everyone thinks an aftermarket exhaust is always better. not necessarily the case. just watched a full xr650 build done at Kaplan cycles and the stock header on that bike made more power than a super nice aftermarket
I don't know of anyone making a multi step pipe for that dinosaur, performance Oriented machines are all going to see great gains from a pipe and more fuel
@@teamwoodswarriorsracing2004 dinosaur lol. Dated for sure but why fix what ain't broke. One of the most reliable bikes still made. It will clock km circles around any new 450. They can be built to be quite spicy as well while still retaining reliability

Hi Pete what motor mods are done to your raptor piston cam head porting TB ?
It has a 10:1 piston, +2 valves, their CNC drag port, bored throttle body, and a Stage 3 hotcam. It’s also running an FCI intake to go with the exhaust and PC5 👍
@@PeteHager awesome build I want to do a similar build but with either a 11.1 or 14.1 piston. How much of a difference is the quad from typical the big 3 power wise
@@jeffaquilino1806 that would definitely be an awesome set up. We went with the piston we did since I wanted to retain the ability to run pump gas. Most big 3 raptors will make in the low 50’s for horsepower. It’s definitely possible to get my level of performance with less modification. Being around 60 has been a lot of fun but is actually kinda overkill for dirt riding. It’s a blast to hold onto but struggles to find traction in the lower gears. In the sand dunes it’s absolutely awesome though! Totally offsets the power loss the sand causes 👌🤘

What size wheel spacers are you running on your raptor and do you have any problems with them
I have 1 inch spacers on the front. Spacers are known to increase bump steer but I’ve mitigated that by running a steering stabilizer. The other draw backs are the extra leverage the spacers puts on the shock components. If you have a wreck or hard impact you increase your chsnces of bending parts that could’ve been okay without the spacers. I’ve also gone through wheel bearings faster because of the extra strain they cause. That being said for the money they’re a solid budget fix to add a little stability. I don’t jump the machine much so as long as your not track riding and buy a quality set you should be safe. I wouldn’t advise going wider than an inch on each side though otherwise those problems I listed will be magnified even more 👍

I’ve only had experience with HMF exhausts on the 400ex in the past. There isn’t a lot of full system options so it’s hard to say. The Curtis sparks full systems are super cool but I’ve also heard they’re designed for more of a built engine. I’m very eager to see how Rossier R4 sounds and performs on our 400 🤘

@@75hours14 I think that’s a pretty rare system for them isn’t it? I’m not sure how they would compare. Dyno numbers vary from dyno to dyno since there’s too many variables that effect the final outcome. The only way to know for sure which is better is to do all the testing on the same quad in the same place 😊👍
@@PeteHager yea my buddy that I bought it from said they were discontinued so I think they are pretty rare. My buddy said he saw one for sale for like 800 or 900 with a rusty pipe so
Sparks x6 and the ct sonic, the empire of probably up there too on a built engine but realistically nobody is building and dyno tuning them enough to see any real numbers

It depends on my surface time. With the 15 tooth front project I leave in 1st on the sand but normally 2nd on harder surfaces

I got the Urmosi in blue, such an awesome piece
I have Urmosi throttles on both Yamahas. The 450 has his blue factory throttle and the Raptor has the red original throttle. Both are great, the factory edition is made from a higher grade aluminum, has extra locking screws on the thumb shaft and comes with a lifetime warranty. I’ve had no issues with my original throttle on the raptor the last several seasons! Thanks for all the support in the previous comments! 👌🤘😁
So you did this using a Pc5 and stock air filter ? You Should try it with a vortex and FCI and see what the dump says then. I bet you get near 50

The YFZR has an FCI, Vortex, and the full exhaust. The Raptor has an FCI, PC5, and a built top end to go with the exhaust 👍
@@PeteHager Sorry dump was suppose to be dyno lol. So my 14 yfzr has a full fmf system with a mega bomb, vortex and no FCI. I got 46hp! Weird huh?

It has a lot of hours in it so I’m probably gonna hold onto it. We may want to use it for potential testing in the future as well

I think they’re great ATV’s! I love mine but if I could only have one quad I’ve always said I would probably lean towards the Raptor. I will say my least favorite thing to do with the Raptor is jump it though so if your planning on doing any track riding or bigger sends I would say the 450 is a much safer machine for it!

The 400ex is pretty legendary and I really wanted to get another manufacturer in the garage. When it comes to a super bullet proof more entry level quad it’s pretty impossible to beat the practicality of the 400ex. Plus there’s a lot more aftermarket available for them 👍

r4 sounds better on the 450 but the r5 sounds better on the raptor
