My sister found a pkg of Christmas cards years ago - on the front it said "Christmas presents wrapped in pretty paper and topped with shiny bows,". The inside said "...but the greatest gift we ever received was wrapped in swaddling clothes."

My Mom and I used to make this at Christmas and pack on top of a bushel of our oranges, grapefruit and other fruits that we grew. We would make about 1,000 of these along with 30 pounds of homemade peanut brittle and other candies. This is definitely a delicious recipe for Christmas. Thank you so much! 🙏❤🎄💝

This does go back to the kitchen of Martha Washington. My father was taking down an old farmhouse that was built during the civil war and in the attic was a cookbook from the kitchen of The President’s wife it was written not typed. Before I say more no we didn’t keep it but we did keep copies of recipes we thought we would love for ourselves. This was my favorite to try to create because back in the day everything was done by hand not found in cans. Just to confirm I am 67 and was with my father when he found it I was 15. Been making these every year sense. My favorite. The original recipe in the book makes 250 candies. It also called for cooking wax that you melt in with the chocolate. Lovely video.

My momma made this candy, along with a lot of other kinds of candy, cookies, pies, and loaf cakes for the holidays beginning the first of November or before. No one ever left our home empty handed. I have early memories of her making Aunt Bills Candy by hand. The Texas Panhandle must truly be part of the South. We used pecans in everything. Appreciate your good memory stirring tutorials. Amen to our most precious Gift!

After watching it she said you really did a good job explaining everything and she made other comments as she watched. She also said how much she liked the nativity behind you 💙. My favorite candy of all time! A co-worker made some for the office and I was surprised by the number of people who didn't know what they were. She told them and several people turned up their nose at the ingredients. As we were getting ready to go home, the sweet girl came by and handed me a huge tin--nearly full! She had made a double batch and thought that might not be enough. So I cried when she gave me half and took the other half home. Best gift EVER from a co-worker! I had done the same thing a few years before that, but had tripled the recipe to give as gifts, so I know how much work she'd put into this. Thanks for the tips on using the crock pot and cookie scoop. That would've made the job so much easier! 😊

My grandmother made candy every Christmas and this is one of them and she just called them bon bons. She did the coconut, and just pecans, then cherries, and made chocolate, peanut butter and coconut fudge, divinity, I think it was called aunt bills, peanut and pecans brittle, rocky road, and pralines. She gave as gifts and sold them by the pound. She had a great following of return customers and some new. She had a pretty good business going on. I'm so glad you showed this candy recipe because my grandmother did not leave a recipe so I'm ecstatic to see you sharing this. I will be so glad to make this. Thanks so much for sharing 😊

Well it's Christmas Day and I woke up this morning thinking about you. I've been watching your video's for about a month or so and really love everything about your presentation. I'm an old country gal myself and started cooking some 50 years ago and in every cooking show I've watched I had yet to see anyone that has that same ol' Southern style. At my age I still love to cook, but with age things slip from your mind in a recipe or two :o) Now I have a great "go to" that kicks that memory in. That place is you. I'm feeling like we're kindred spirits :o) You keep me in touch with my Lord and Savior, and God has surely blessed you for helping those who sometimes let him slip away. You're an all 'round wonderful person with all the things you do. Anyhoo, I just wanted to wish you and your family a beautiful and blessed Christmas. Happy Birthday Jesus!

I’ve been making this type of candy for at least 36 years and my recipe is the same except it calls for wax in the chocolate. It doesn’t affect the taste and it helps keep the form and from them melting together. I’ve always known these candies simply as “Dipped Candy”. It’s nice to learn the actual name.

If you freeze the candy before dipping it makes it alot easier...and place dipped piece back on cold tray...they set up a little...then keep in freezer until ready to serve

It's not even near Christmas and I am watching. Just subscribed thought I had but now I know for sure I did. It is nice to remember older things that folks use to do and some of us still do. Refresh the ideas of giving of course. Plus listening to you and hearing your faith is a great way to relax and let the craziness of the world just fade for a little bit and get back to loving each other. Thank you so much.

Love the candy, I used to make something similar, when I was younger used to make breads, cookies, fudge and jellies make up boxes and send to family and friends for Christmas, used 50 lbs flour, white sugar, 10 dozen eggs, 20 lbs powdered sugar, 10 lbs nuts, etc then shipping all in all thought it was a great gift especially if the person that received it was working and didn't have time to cook. Thank you for sharing will have to try this recipe love coconut, and as always love and laughter, and God Bless.

I used to make several batches at Christmas way back in the 80's. I wish that I had known about the scoop technique then. I rolled every one of them and then chilled them and dipped them the next day. I gave them to people that I didn't buy gifts for (neighbors, mailman, etc), plus each of my siblings families got a container that included fudge, coconut strawberries, pralines, and MW candy. Most people had never heard of MW candy and loved it. I chopped my pecans a lot smaller, it made it easier to roll. I may make some. My family still asks every year if I'm ever gonna make it again.Thank you.

Martha Washington was gifted a handwritten cookbook when she married her first husband Custise. She added to it during her life and was kept for years at Mount Vernon. It has been recently been published. "Martha Washingtons Booke of Cookery and Booke of Sweetmeats," by Martha Washington was transcribed by a historian who is very knowledgeable about historic cooking methods. It has George on the cover eating cherry pie! Its a great book and very interesting!

I learned this year, to use my insta pot as a double boiler. You put 2 cups of water in the pan. (That water level never changed, cover the three days I turned it on and off, for my multiple projects). You put it on saute. Place a bowl over it, that is big enough to fit in the top f the pot, but never have it touch the water. As soon as you see steam, and hear it bubbling, turn it to warm, and keep it on warm the entire time. I loved the convenience of this method, with no chance to burn the chocolate.

Oh my goodness Becky I will make these with my granddaughter next holiday season. We always bake cut out sugar cookies and decorate them. It is a family tradition going back to my grandmother. These are so simple and those kiddos love chocolate. We can put my grandson on sprinkle duty. I always hit the stores for the decorations when they are on sale because we go through a lot of them. Thank you so much for sharing all of your recipes and may God bless you and your family now and in the new year.

My Mother always made Fudge every year and I also make that…only thing though! I make them the ‘easy way’ with the “Two Ingredient Fudge” like you made a tutorial on! That’s really good fudge and it’s so easy!! Thank you Becky! Merry Christmas to you and your kids and your grandkids, and hoping and praying that you guys have a Happy And Blessed New Year!!
