I love you for this. Kyouka clearly needs to get a boat for the “implication” And also you have the same name as my Dad, I for-see good things for our relationship at least until our legal separation under bird-law.
I watched it when I was Like 16 and I never got why she was into him but I rewatched it the other day excepting once again to not like it especially since I’m in my 20s now and it honestly wasn’t that bad at all, still in saying that when dealing with damaged people they can get like Sata and be resentful of people and the fact that she saw through that and kept pushing him to be better is amazing. There pretty cute in the manga through and especially since they drop the whole starting premise it basically ends up like say I love you
Yes! Everyone loved it when it came out and still love it and I never knew why. I literally thought I was the only person who didn’t like it. It made me feel super uncomfortable. I hated how he treated her and how she kept staying with him. Now I know that he was mentally abusive to her and I hate it. I get that she’s also kind of annoying and awkward but she didn’t deserve to be treated that way by him.
@@helen4361 someone not getting away from abuse doesn't justify abuse, this anime glorifies the idea of "if you're head over heels for someone and they abuse you, you're the stupid one and you don't deserve sympathy"
Overall tho in the beginning ye I thought wtf like why is he being like that like that is toxic but as they finally got into a relationship and when I read the manga there was no toxic relationship and it was good Erika’s lies and kyoya stupid shut had gone and they learnt from their mistake I like this show so ye it’s shit at the beginning but as u watch and read more of it it gets good so it’s fine but that is my opinion yk😁
I think a perfect way to illustrate this is to look at another series that does this better. I almost feel bad even mentioning him here because he is so much better than this, but let's think about Kyo from Fruits Basket for a moment. at first blush, Kyo is the prototypical male tsundere. he acts brash and stand offish, and as you learn more about him, you start to really care about him and understand why he acts that way. but Kyo's backstory actually goes a long way toward explaining how he became a broken person with a flawed outlook on people and relationships. when Kyo was really young, he was very severely rejected by people who were supposed to love and care for him, for reasons that he had absolutely no control over, or ability to fix through effort. naturally, this destroyed his entire sense of security, and led to deeply ingrained trust issues and self loathing. Kyo acts rough and stand offish because it allows him to control how he is perceived by others. he doesn't trust other people's positive emotions... he doesn't know how he lost the love of his family, or what he could've done to prevent that. none of it makes any sense to him, so he sees other people as a total mystery, and getting invested in them feels like a gamble that could get him really hurt all over again. if they hate him because he makes himself a nuisance on purpose... that's predictable, and makes sense, and he feels in control. and he's spent so long like this, that it is honestly painful for him to start trusting someone again, even if it's happening because someone is proving themselves to be trustworthy. the more he loves someone, the more it could potentially hurt to feel rejected by them. he anticipates that immediately, and everything he does is an attempt to defend himself. Kyo is a good example of how you write a character with a bad attitude and a sad backstory, in a way that makes sense and is used effectively within the narrative. Kyo starts out as this prickly, hurt, awkward kid, and he _needs to change._ not just for the sake of those around him, but for the sake of himself. his life will get better if he heals. the story is about repairing the damage that the characters have experienced, and you see Kyo try really hard toward that end. because eventually he realizes that if he isn't careful, he could come off as the one who is rejecting people and hurting them. he knows how that feels. he doesn't want to cause that. so he makes conscious efforts not to act badly toward people who don't deserve it... eventually, he will learn for the sake of others, and it is _not_ smooth watching him try to do this. he's obviously embarrassing himself pretty badly in a lot of cases, which is a high stakes game for someone who fears rejection and reacts really badly to shame. but at the end of the day, Kyo is only hurt so badly by rejection because of how equally badly he wants love and acceptance. this is the core cathartic appeal of characters that have to gain redemption. you cannot just write some blasé, disaffected asshole with a sob story in their past, and handwave abusive behavior because of it. not when there are so many more characters who you can see trying desperately to be good, even if they aren't already good at doing so. when done properly, characters like these are there for people who haven't lived perfect lives, and don't know if they deserve to feel love, or what the road to being loved might look like for them. when a writer tries to use these archetypes without actually putting in the work, it's basically just insulting.
Why does it feel like there isn’t a single writer who understands that bdsm/unusual relationship dynamics are predicated on love and consent??? You can’t just go up to people and treat them like shit and act like it’s hot because it’s an extreme relationship dynamic, there needs to be consent involved, this isn’t a hard concept to grasp! Without mutual consent it’s just abuse!
I think the problem is that most people that are in the position to put "bdsm stories" out there and get big audiences, and are interested in telling those stories, are both *really* vanilla, and pretty damn conservative. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually think they're just supposed to write glorified abuse, and are writing because they find it "weird" and "absurd"
I think most people don't understand the difference between danger and the illusion of danger. When they want a fantasy, they don't want all the actual rules, but the real danger. It's still just a fantasy, which is why people don't usually care that the BDSM elements are all too real.
Rosa Robles i feel like she eventually stands up for herself. And you find out why he’s abusive and she comes out clean to her “friends” and kinda starts being true to herself and the girls decide to accept her for who she is. And he eventually does what she wants. I still think it’s wrong her relationship with him and girls shouldn’t suffer through that till the guy fixes his issues.
Jessica Garcia She’s got low self esteem and a negative body image for herself at one point and this dude made it worst. And it should have never been her job to “fix” him when she herself had emotional problems. Her standing up for herself after words didn’t feel like she truly valued herself because she kept relationships that were obviously toxic. In the end of the story nothing was truly gained.
@@nadyanathania3847 they could still perform due diligence through research, interviewing couples, etc. Similar to how most media portray the wealthy as spending opulently without regard to cost, where most people who spend that way aren't wealthy for long. Most don't get upset because most people aren't wealthy, and that perception of wealth insulates and glorifies the wealthy.
i feel like this anime was the fantasy of some lady who is secretly a sadomasochist, but at the same time has no idea how a healthy relationship works.
Mysticgamer there is a video called “fifty shades of Budda”(not the actual anime’s title, but still it’s a hilarious video) from another channel and it mentions that they apparently changed a law or found a loophole to show Fifty shades in Japan.
Yeah I started watching it thinking “there has to be something more to this... right..? RIGHT?” but it was just one awful, irredeemable thing after another! What do people get out of something like that!?
Oh my gosh, yeah. It’s like, the “romantic” punchline is always slurp kink (I would say bite kink, but it doesn’t focus on that, just something akin to the sound of someone who doesn’t know how to use a straw properly?), insults, or actual sexual assault????
same , I think that anime is terrible. I went in to watching it because' '' ooo cute vampire guys", but the abuse just throws me off and even good looking anime guys can't save it.
I love how the explanation for the plot doesn't sound all that bad. You can see the potential of this fun, back-and-forth secretive romance story where she discovers that social popularity and acceptance isn't what it's cracked up to be. He'd probably show his good sides by trying to help her out and even give advice but she's too wrapped up in trying to impress the unimpressionable. Then the 2:00 mark of the twenty minute video hits.
bryal but why do all shows have to be that way? Why does every show have to be uplifting? The same goal of showing her it’s not worth it can be achieved in the way the show goes about it. It’s not like he even wanted to be in a relationship with her to begin with, so why would he be nice and help her as the most popular dude in school?
@@MessiahBoi I don't think I said it had to be, just that the typical rom/com would go in that direction. The problem with the anime/manga is that it doesn't explore both sides of the coin and shows little to no faults of the male lead. The author does not challenge the idea of his decisions being wrong or incorrect in anyway. If it were to be of a darker tone but still well written, she'd do a 180 and bring it back to him. Even worse, she could devolve into how her "friends" act. I could see a hypothetical plot-arc about a newer student being exploited by Erika. Whether the story takes a positive or negative turn doesn't matter. Wolf Girl and Black Prince is still surface level and poorly written because it doesn't dive into anything about it's theme and doesn't bother trying to challenge ideas on abusive relationships, social popularity, social isolation or the importance of following/not following it.
If he really didn’t want to do it, he could’ve said no? Since he chose to agree, I don’t see that there’s any reason for him to be an asshole other than he is an asshole.
That's actually kind of the startingplot of "Hoshino, close your eyes". The main girl is part of the popular kid, and wants to hide her other side from her friends, so the main guy (who is at the bottom of the school social ladder) ends up doing her make up. (Except her friends are genuine friends, and it's more about our heroes fighting against peer pressure and their social insecurities, with romance slowly developing over time)
Oh no you forgot the actually good love interest who actually sought out to treat erika decently and with respect who she rejected for the guy who abused her🤦🏽♀️ forgot about that part
I've seen that so much in shoujo where the female lead always chooses the bad boy. She gets demeaned and abused by her so called "love interest" daily, though manages to meet a guy she can get along with, treats her with respect, and has romantic interest in her; but no, she ends up with the bad boy cause he was either first guy or there's just something about him that makes him more exotic. That or the make the nicer guy turn a 180, making him a possessive jerk out of nowhere, and bad boy has to come in to save the day, looking better by extension though never changing.
@@trika91 dude truly! I've seen that so many times in so many romances. The one that comes to mind right now is bokura ga ita and itazura na kiss which I just don't understand the fanbase for when the male leads are so obviously abusive smh but that's...appealing? I will say though the thai adaptation of itazura na kiss is the best as it removes the toxic and abusive relationship and is quite enjoyable👌 but like the fact that there's a large fanbase for these abusive relationships is mind boggling
marcelkat The two manga I can think of that were semi-popular with horrible male leads were ‘Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu’ and ‘Hot Gimmick’. The guy in Koi Hajime at least sort of changes, but gave the female lead so much crap before getting to that point (he was only getting good towards the end). The male lead in Hot Gimmick never changes, with it ending on a downer of the female lead “believing” she can change his attitude with marriage. The only manga that I can think of that did the bad boy trope well was ‘Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers’. The females lead took crap from the male lead’s antics, but she gave him crap back. She didn’t fall in love with him instantly, forcing him to jump through hoops and change his attitude just to win her over; and he became a better man in the end, deserving her more than the second male love interest (who was the wishy-washy type).
Ah of course, the guy who treats her nicely is the one she won't choose TT. This is why sometimes i don't invest on reading shoujo mangas cuz I always end up getting hurt since I always root for the second lead....
@@trika91 omg I haven't seen hana yori dango in it's entirety but I have seen meteor garden. I hated it truly and honestly. I can't do abusive leads where their behavior is condoned and rewarded it put me off watching any other adaptations because of how badly he treated the female lead
Wolf girl doesn’t even fit! She’s not a wolf! That would imply that she’s wild, untamable. She is neither of those. The title doesn’t fit, the anime is terrible, and just- it shouldn’t exist!
I forgot the name of this one but I stopped watching after like two episodes cause it was weird to me. It had this school president girl doing a secret job thing at a cafe to pay off bills or something and a dude was blackmailing her because he found out her secret.
@@QuinSkew yeah! I've always felt it was weird and unsettling. In fact, if it happened in real life, Misaki (the maid girl) would probably be very stressed instead of feeling wooed by a very creepy guy who puts her in awkward situations when she's already stressed about her family's financial conditions. Tbh I bet if Usui (male lead) wasn't handsome, it would be a whole other story!
@@QuinSkewI know it probably is super weird and crazy, but I promise you maidsama is rlly good, maybe try picking it back up again? If at least 2 more episodes don’t do it for you then that’s okay! It’s not for everyone! But it really is a good anime, Misaki is a very strong girl!
Thanks god shows like Skip Beat exist and get a better rating than this show. It's the total opposite with strong, female leads that put an end to men abusing them.
THAT WAS MY FAV ANIME! Finally a shoujo lead whose life wasn't dictated by relationships with men! I love how she breaks free from a bad relationship, and discovers herself, and the story actually focuses on her discovering her dreams and healing and becoming her own person! The male lead has to walk at her pace, and when she's ready for a relationship, it's because SHE decided it, and it's HEALTHY for her.
@@bowmanc.7439 I laugh at how badly the comedy was and lame. you can laugh at it but it still not funny at all and bad writing. even 10 years old can write better comedy than this and you found it much more funny.

@@megastormy497, i understand. Its hard pressed to find a good shoujo period. (Especially one that has been animated). Give 'Untouchable' a read, its a manga with unconventional vamps, its more slice of life/ romance/ drama
No one is talking about Itzara na kiss. That shit was sooo toxic it's unreal. Irie was completely verbally and emotionally abusive up until the very end.
The lowest point for me was when, after all the shit he put her through, she finally says she's had enough and she's going to give that dude witha crush on her a chance. And then he slaps her. He. Slaps. Her. I've never wanted to punch a character so much.
I was looking for this comment. Yes, Itazura na Kiss is a realistic portrayal of an abusive relationship. Painfully realistic. Pretty much "circle of abuse" the anime, but painted as "omg he is such a tsundere boy kyaaa"
Aww man, I was hoping from the title it would be some fantasy romance about an actual wolf girl and an actual prince. That would've been right up my alley.
Well it's titled worst shojo, what did you expect? Not anime but you might want to check Blind Prince and Liar Princess game if you like prince x wolf girl dynamic.
In case they didn't already convince you, here's another recommendation for Liar Princess and the Blind Prince. It's sweet, it has some decent puzzle/platforming, the gameplay gimmick doesn't wear thin, and the story is actually kinda charming.
Groom viewers? Oh, sure, because overworked and underpaid mangaka "totally" have the luxury of being able to cook up that kind of crap. The creator wanted to put food on the table, is all.
True and their love relationship is super bad. I see episode by episode, make me angry btw.... Idk why this anime so popular, their love relationship so bad, the story mess up.....
I never watched this anime cause of hearing how unhealthy and abusive the main relationship is, and the fact its targeted towards Teen girls makes that fact even worse as you said. p.s. The opening song is a bop, but ever since reading a comment on a video of the full song, i can't unhear Japanese avril lavigne.
I never watched the anime but for the live action adaptation of wolf girl and black prince, yes, i watched it. I just wanna say... Erika is such a liar who losed her friends by telling them that she has a bf (which in fact, she actually doesn't have one) and even tho kyouya abused her meanly, she still loved kyouya like.... Wtf! I just wanna yell at her
The worst part is that this anime could have been halfway decent as a warning/psychological horror where the girl learns the dangers of tying self worth to relationships, potentially attempts to harm herself out of desperation and misery before learning her lesson and leaving all the shitty and abusive people behind to actually pursue her dreams. But it chose to be shit.
Yeah, I hate sad endings. I like happy endings that are tied up in a nice little bow, but this is one of the few times where I'd actually want a sad ending without a resolution, where the lead girl suffers because of the lead guy and there's no romantic way to spin it. If the story had a bad ending, I'd actually have more respect for it as an art.
When she was in high school in the 1980's (I'm old), my sister tried to get approval of the popular girls and got treated like crap and got an older boyfriend who treated her poorly; it ended badly. Now, older and wiser she laughs at them every time they try to get her to go to a reunion.
As someone who watched this while it was airing (aka while I was in high school), the appeal was mostly the fantasy of having the bad guy change for YOU. That there was something special about you that could fix the guy, and though others had tried, you were the only one to succeed. I was able to recognize the abuse in the relationship, but I overlooked it mostly for the reason mentioned above.
And that's the problem. I painfully know how untrue this is, but how it makes people think this is true. I heard a friend, in an abusive relationship, saying to me "But he's making efforts for me, and I'm the only one who realises it". I heard another one saying that she likes "Boys that she can fix". In real life, it's not how it works. It's not up to a partner to "fix" them, and movies, series, manga and all other thing that gives ideas like that are awfully dangerous for victoms of toxic relationship. I don't want to hear anymore people saying that they can fix their abusive partner. But they're not helping...
theyll never change and its wrong to teach people they will tbh Ive had so many fights with a friend because theyre so certain they can change someone whos just.. not willing to change or doesnt care enough to. :( We all see the appeal but heck we shouldnt mix reality with anime
To sum both comments up “I wanna fix you.” is kinda rude and not the dynamic. Also the whole fix the guy or fix you is kinda degrading. Like the whole “I don’t really love you but I see the potential if you change.” Is a bit odd. It implies your partner is broken, your in a bad relationship or you don’t love them but you’ll shape them to be lovable. Asshole or not you can’t just destroy someone’s entire identity for reason of feeling good or for them to be deserving of love. I saw a relationship break up like this because though the guy had some trauma the whole nurse you better implied he was sick or broken.
I remember watching this a long time ago. I was on a shoujo kick and I had just finished My Love Story and Kimi ni Todoke. This anime was just so jarring. I couldn't see the appeal. The relationships in KnT and MLS were so wholesome and sweet and then I watch this where the romance is so toxic. I don't understand why it's so popular
I'm enjoying these co-op review videos. Just finished JK Haru last week, and it was even better biting-commentary than you made it sound. I think I made it through one and a half episodes of Wolf Girl and Black Prince before I dropped it. My tolerance for anime bullshit is fairly high, but my tolerance for this kind of toxic bullshit is pretty low.
God, I watched a few episodes a while back. Reasons I tried it out was because: 1. I share names with the heroine even though it's a different spelling. 2. I like the bad boy type more often than not. 3. And straight to the point, I'm a romance anime junkie. I thought this was going to be one of my favorites but holy shit was I wrong. There is only one thing I remember from this show and it's the reason I dropped it. It's the scene where Kyoya (not sure how to spell it if that's even his name) starts being nice to Erika for some reason (can't remember) and then when they are in some restaurant, he drops the act and starts saying the meanest shit to her. I just remember being so fucking pissed and just losing any hope I had for the guy. I was so happy when Erika threw the water in his face and walked out, thinking maybe she'll leave him for good and try to turn her life around to send a positive message to the viewers. But nope, they somehow (can't remember) "make-up" and I lose all patience I had for the show. Dropped it soon after with a sour taste in my mouth.
I feel you on 2. and 3. I'm a sucker for anime romance and I often love the bad boy types more often than not, but holy fucking Hades in the Underworld, that is not how you do a bad boy type. You don't make a bad boy likable by just making him the least terrible, because at the end of the day, the heroine's still with him and he's god damn terrible. He has to have redeemable qualities and not be FUCKING TERRIBLE!!
@@JoshtheOverlander Agreed. Bad boy type can be done well, like Usui from Maid Sama series. But when your bad boy character spend most of his time being shitty toward the heroine, that's not a good sign at all.
@@isaacgray2909 I may be wrong since it's being a long long time since I have seen that show but wasn't he like pretty possessive until the end? I remember once he "mark" her body so no one could see her body in the beach? Or the attempt of rape trope, author used to make him look cool? Like the brave strong girl we know could do nothing but being a damsel in distress at that moment, I love Mizuki, just the way author treat her was kind of unfair for her character imo, like, as far as I remember Usui did not change that much in not respecting her boundaries. But I agree, bad boy healthy characters can totally be done right, let that be the golden heart delinquent type or the cold, emotional unavailable that ends up opening for the FL.
@@Cloverfr Usui gave Misuki those marks out of jealousy, and yes Usui is possessive when it comes to dude being interest in her. I agreed that Usui is clearly the wrong here, especially since Misuki has proven she can take care of herself. Not saying Usui is perfect, but I felt that he's one of the few exceptions of the bad boy character can be done right. It's just that for Usui, he rarely treated Misuki like shit and clearly doesn't have a "tragic" backstory for Misuki to"fix" him.
Oh my god, while watching this, I was thinking "Kimi ni Todoke would never stoop to such a terrible level, people should just watch that instead". And then you mentioned it!!
The day before this showed up in my recommendations, I found a review I had written for this anime on Google Docs. When I wrote it, I was in the 8th grade and apparently loved it because I personally related to being treated the way the main character was. In retrospect, that should've been a red flag regarding my current mental state. It hit close to home for me and it makes me sad to think that it probably hit close to home for a lot of other young girls.
DJ Elfin hey, same though. I wasn’t super comfy bringing it up in the video but at the time of me first watching it, I was multiple years into an abusive relationship that I really hadn’t woken up to, and I actually kind of enjoyed watching it.. it was really a wake up call when I went back to finish it and realized how much dangerous stuff I missed. I think that’s one of the reasons I feel this one is more realistically harmful than something crazy like skip beat that involves idols and seems more like a fantasy. -yazy
Agreed! That show was so precious and wholesome and I just felt good watching it! Both leads were actually likeable people who I'd hang out with in real life :)
Oh, I started getting bombarded with Chinese manhua on certain manga sites, and after reading a few, I can say you are absolutely right! Most, if not all, romance manhua starts with the female lead getting raped by the male. She’s usually drugged or drunken, tricked into the male lead’s room (or wanders in by accident), and he has his way with her, cause woman in my bed. The rest of the story is random drama the female lead must face, while the male lead pursues her (forcibly) to make the person he slept with his woman.
a worse shoujo anime that is also under reverse harem genre (& is a popular one sadly) is diabolik lovers. Just the WORST EVER. To be honest many of the relationships in shoujo anime/manga are bad ones for many reasons that needs a lengthy essay to list all. One time I pretty much went through a quest to find a shoujo anime/manga that represents a healthy relationship so I looked through many source materials & the first time I found one, I felt like I wanted to give some kind of prize to the one who made it. So in summary it is rare to find healthy relationships in shoujo. Many times I just wished that the heroine would grow up & realize that she could be in a better relationship a healthy one, but then most of the stories ends with marriage, so I don't know I just hope that the targeted demographic reads & watches those stories just for fun...
‘Kimi no Todoke, My Love Story, High School Debut, and Say I Love You’ are some good shoujos with wholesome/healthy relationships. ‘My Little Monster’ is a cute take on the bad boy formula where the male lead is just extremely wild with limited aggression control, but it very sweet and openly affectionate.
We need more shoujo anime that talk about relational aggression like gaslighting, ultimatums, verbal abuse, isolation, and other forms of manipulation. So many times if a show wants to portray an abusive character, they just have them hit their spouse, but manipulative abuse is usually the red flag that leads to physical abuse.
I’ve only read the manga but I don’t remember it being this bad. In fact it was actually pretty darn good, but this description makes me wonder how much they changed the anime from the manga.
If it was me, I’d rewrite Wolf Girl and Black Prince like this : Our protag is caught up in the lie like before, but when she asks him to help her keep up the lie, he says no, saying that it would only put more eyes on her. She says how that’s all she wants, popularity! He shakes his head, but agrees to help her out, on one condition : he gets to treat her badly in public. They establish a safe word and phrase to tell him to stop berating her when they’re in public together, and they go through with it. This time, her popular friends are concerned for her, and are actually her friends. He treats her like garbage in front of them, and they start to think he may be a shitty guy who doesn’t deserve to be popular. He’s enjoying it, but she doesn’t understand why. She starting to really hate the attention, avoiding hanging out with her popular friends, but she doesn’t know why. She wants to be popular, yet, she has these conflicting feelings. It culminates to the protag having to use her safe word, because she starts to panic and cry. She runs away, and he runs after her, apologizing and wiping her tears. This is where he explains his motives : he hates being popular, and wants desperately to tarnish his reputation. He’s tried getting into fights, doing embarrassing things, and even went as far to stop doing the things he’s passionate about because the attention stresses him out. He grabs her hands, puts his face onto them, and says “You want my life so badly, but I know you now! You would never be happy with it!” She gently pulls his face up to hers, and says “You know what. I think you’ve taught me a lot.” and kisses him. The moment gets a comedic ending by him falling backwards comically, and the final reveal of his character is that he’s never been kissed! Her popular friends were watching from behind the bend, and they hoot and holler for their friend. Both the protag and the guy are embarrassed, yet, they get swept up in kind praise from a few close friends. And that’s all they wanted. His popularity continues to dwindle, and she enjoys the independence of not having the school’s eyes on her. She encourages him to pick up glassblowing with her, to which he shrugs, and ends up really enjoying the sketching and planning process. They go to a college together, he learns how to construct different glass statues and vases, while she learns how to create them. They open a small business together, have two kids, happily ever after.
Bat -chan i think they were just saying that light is a manipulative dick, besides, if he didn't have the death note there would be no reason for his and misa's relationship
I'm pretty sure this anime helped delusion me into romanticizing an unhealthy relationship I was in at like 19 lol. And I don't have any romance animes to reccomend, but you should give Kuma Miko a watch cause that is a dumpster fire of an anime that left me uncomfortable for like a week.
You want to know something sad? I've seen tons of Shoujo manga like this. The "abusive boyfriend with power over girl, but he has a sad past and one time he stopped a rapist and another time showed something almost but entirely unlike graduate so its okay" is basically a genre. Also one that has unfairly used as the "face" of Shoujo mostly I think because it makes it easy to dismiss all things girls like as morally repugnant.
Hello people, I'm happy to say, that this Video gave me enough to think and want to talk about, that I found the motivation to make a comment. Thank you for that, this doesn’t happen often with me. I saw "Wolf Girl and Black Prince" back when it aired which is about a long time ago and I don't really remember too much about it. The thing I recall is hoping for a specific plot point to come true, which never happened. In my mind I hoped he intentionally played to be a bad guy to push her over the edge. Maybe recognizing that having a horrible boyfriend isn't worse keeping some wrong friends. At which point she might break ties with everyone, just for the guy to become apologetic and admitting, to have done bad things to help her make a right decision. Hopefully even accepting that she should not have any romantic feelings for him but proposing that a decent friendship might be better for her. Of course, this never happened. This is a bad show I didn't even rate on MAL because I wasn't sure enough of my opinion to rate it truthfully to my taste. The only Anime I ever watched and considered worse was the Animation for the Visual Novel from Amnesia, spring 2013. I know the Visual Novel is considered to be good, but that Anime didn't translate well. It sits currently on 6.28 with nearly 96,000 users having seen it, which is probably still too high even for MAL standards. So, if you consider making this reaction "style review?" on another Anime I would be happy if this might be considered a contender. Thank you for the good Content.
I almost feel like the idea is the Black Prince is better than most guys, but he's so used to girls begging him to be their boyfriend for shallow reasons, so he's taken to being a shitlord to drive them away. And he happened across the one girl who is willing to be the subject of a shitlord to impress far shittier people, and now he's trying to disabuse her of her idea to impress said crappy people. But they aren't good at conveying anything well because "OHMYGAWDHOTGUYSSOSHREXY! SHE GOT HIT, NOW LAUGH!"
My friend made me watch this when it first aired so that we had something to watch together and the only reason I kept watching every episode is because I wanted to know if he would get better or nicer and there relationship would work out and be a cute couple but no it was just he's a arse he never got better
YES. FINALLY. It's crazy how many people, mostly girls, actually love mangas/animes/webtoons like this one. I never really understood them. Concepts like how the MC bullies the heroine and the heroine just sucks it all up like some dumb bish. It annoys me to no end how they portray girls as if they can't think for themselves, and goddamn I hate how they freakin fall for the MC despite all their bad traits like how??? I'm in need for some good shoujo. Definitely good ones would be Dengeki Daisy and Highschool Debut. Those girls actually have the guts and the brains/heart. I could actually relate to them and they're just... not shallow.
Ik this comment is late but fr I watched it and when I was younger and like for some reason I loved it but like now I'm like a wait a damn minute abt it. I honestly really didn't like the relationship between kaname and yuki at all and I wasn't a big fan of yuki and zeros relationship much either.
Vampire knights was bad bc of the incest and the fact that Yuki got with her BROTHER over Zero who clearly was the better choice, This anime is just….God bro idek anymore..

Oh gosh! I'm not alone is absolutely hating Wolf Girl. I didn't even finish the anime because of the toxic behavior from the male lead. I disliked him so much! No thanks!
This is basically the beginning of Skip Beat x10 the anime. I find it bizarre that no one else made a video about this dumpster fire of a series. For any that looking for a good shojo series check out Skip Beat, Lovely Complex, and Kimi ni Todoke
A few years ago I really enjoyed this anime but when I watched it some time back I couldn't believe the dark place it took me to for quite a while, as it depicted my emotionally abusive relationship with my ex to the tea. I ended up crying and shaking in many parts as the anime went on and couldn't bring myself to finish it. People who have went through such trauma can understand just how dark this anime really is, and it scares me because alot of impressionable girls will watch this thinking this is what an ideal guy is like and get themselves into horrible and traumatic situations that might end up scarring them.
@@LynnHermione look in this section. One of the ladies watched the show thinking relationships like this were normal. Since she was in one just like that. That's not healthy.

ahh, okay but after rewatching the series because i remember liking it, the relationship was really not that toxic. The girl really did love him and didn’t went in with any hero complex wanting to ‘save’ him or anything. Just like how everyone seem to focus on his bad side, she was just caught up by his ‘good’ side. Like at the beginning she did pointed out a lot of time when he was being rude, but just stuck through so she could keep some friends. The guy also isn’t super malicious, at the end his family explains how he just shut off after his parents broke off. Like people just take things differently, and his way was to not trust/love people ig. Not everyone can go through life all happy go lucky, and show their love so carefree like Erika. I thought the anime just showed how there’s 'hope' in life, and you shouldn’t always stay shut off from the world just because you got disappointed by a few things. Like his sister, he was just tired of people being surface level and didn’t really trust Erika at first. Honestly love sometimes just takes effort, just because someone is quiet/cold (or make you act like a dog eh) doesn’t mean they’re truly mean/undeserving of attention. Also, my only explanation for the dog thing is prob his attachment issues and he loves dogs (hopefully meaning he kinda loves Erika too), he was just bored and didn't have any obligation to Erika to act like a sweet love at first sight bf.
In the end, (TLDR) he was kind sometimes. Even if compared to society’s standard it's decent, people are diff and show affections in different ways. Or maybe I just don’t like it when people are so against something when it wasn’t actually horrible. It was kinda just like a slice of life too where not every guy is a perfect Prince Charming that is kind to everyone they meet. I get that it shouldn't show young girls to put in too much effort in an unloving person, but if people aren't willing to put in work in any relationship, the only ones that'll excel are those who will blindly believe everyone has good intentions. As long as the people in the relationship are truly happy and isn't just forcing attraction with people who should be 'good enough'. Also (wow this is v long) that arc w the guy that was pushing him to be w more girls was pretty sweet. *Spoiler?* But he just stood his ground, and basically said you’ll find someone that’s enough (or smt), oh and that a lot of trash is still trash. Um yea sry for the rant but labeling people who have a hard time expressing their feelings (as Erika say, kinda hypocritically tho, he just has a hard time telling the truth) as toxic. Tbh idk what should be considered toxic, but as long as someone understands their own worth, and is willing to put in the effort (even if in comparison it looks weak/not enough) the relationship isn’t completely helpless. Plus he dropped the dog act in a few eps, and instead just using it as an excuse to treat her decently w/o 'hurting his pride'(eh).
As someone who read the entire manga, I think some of its appeal is that they grow up - lots of anime and manga just end at high school, with the characters not really giving much thought to how they’re going to become working adults. The part where Erika has to consider what she wants to do was probably my favourite part. I did not like it though, mostly because Kyouya was so unlovable all throughout, and this is coming from someone who loves tsunderes and cold characters. Definitely also noticed to underlying abuse, but that was not my main reason for my dislike, which is stated above.
First zoom of title - don’t see anything too wrong. Geoff goes off on his rant about the borders. I watch again. AND CAN’T UNSEE IT NOW. That’s not how a paper cutout would act! Ever!
@@averageanimefan519"You're truly happy now right?" It's a question thrown at him by his friends and his own mother. It's a apt question to ask even after marriage and all that, but It's a bit disheartening to wade through these chapters only for him too say "I'm happy??" Or "I practically spoil you now" (like possibly treating her as an equal has risen)
I remember being recommended this show from a top ten romance anime list. Watched an episode and a half and couldn't endure it anymore. Even I with my low confidence back then could see this was toxic and nasty
Itazura na Kiss is on par with Wolf Girl and Black Prince, the girl is desperate for the main guy and the guy treats her either like dirt or a servant. Although I will say I did at least have a few doki doki moments with Itazura na Kiss. It is an older anime though so the production quality is a little janky
I remember my little sister being really into this when it was first airing and she tried summing it up for me once and I just got more and more horrified the longer she went on. I have no idea what was appealing to the audience there, it looked miserable from every angle.
This is why shojo (and maybe josei) titles like "Wolf Girl & Black Prince" infuriate me! If not one of the WORST (modern) embodiments of many shojo cliches, I think the series would fare MUCH better as a deconstruction instead.
i remember when this show was coming out and i saw a lot of posts going around condemning it for condoning abuse and unhealthy relationships, which i guess means i follow the right people! but it honestly disappoints me that content like this runs so rampant with so many people thinking it's okay or even actively enjoying it. it makes me worry about The Youth(tm). like, if you wanna fantasize about being in a relationship that might be less than healthy, okay fine, i get it, i self insert ship with dio brando. but it's super irresponsible to share content supporting that kind of dynamic in a way that makes it seem desirable and healthy. it's not. keep that shit to yourself, in your brain, where you actually know what a healthy relationship looks like and nobody can get hurt. additional note: the relationship dynamic in this show reminds me a lot of the worst manga i've ever read, which was also a shoujo romance in which the guy(s) involved exercises a lot of power over the girl in a pretty alarming way. it's called black bird, and fortunately it never got an anime adaptation! i read part of it when i was 13 and somehow had the worldly awareness to know it was a shitty relationship even back then.
oh my god i didn't recognize Jeff at first, just because it's been a while since I've seen him I guess, and when he started talking I had to do like 3 double-takes to figure out who he was LMAO this channel is so sweet! i love Yazy's(?) hair. y'know what, I'm gonna go ahead and subscribe.

*im looking at you Sangwoo and Yoonbum*

Sunstone, look it up.
@@Vashy434 Holy shit, I just looked at a few pages on Google Images, and their dynamic is really fucking cute! Thank you!

The real pain for me, as a writer, is how close they are to being a good idea.
(Except her friends are genuine friends, and it's more about our heroes fighting against peer pressure and their social insecurities, with romance slowly developing over time)
A more accurate title for this anime would be: “Kicked-Dog and Prince Dog-Kicker”
That actually makes more sense lol

This may very well be the first anime to win the prestigious "Genuinely Not a Better Love Story Than Twilight" award.
That was precisely what I thought while hearing the song...
Japanese Avril is why I love Stereopony
EXACTLYYYYYY
When she was in high school in the 1980's (I'm old), my sister tried to get approval of the popular girls and got treated like crap and got an older boyfriend who treated her poorly; it ended badly. Now, older and wiser she laughs at them every time they try to get her to go to a reunion.
I’m glad your sister is doing better. Sorry she had to go through that. 🙁

Natalie Longmire a male tsundere?
theyll never change and its wrong to teach people they will tbh
Ive had so many fights with a friend because theyre so certain they can change someone whos just.. not willing to change or doesnt care enough to.
Idk man, I feel like this kind of plot requires The Bad Guy™ to actually have any redeeming qualities besides his face?
Its kinda sad that "toxic relationships" stories can be popular specially among girls, that means a lot feels identify with low self esteeme.
"unfortunately enjoyable" is a great phase.
exactly, when I added this to my playlist for the good song, I always immediately go to click off the actual video.

Being in a relationship with Dio from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure seems healthier than this show's "couple".

Yeah, say what you will about Enrico Pucci, but he is DEDICATED.
God, I watched a few episodes a while back.
Reasons I tried it out was because:
@@isaacgray2909 Oh USUI!! That was a good one, man! I friggin love that dude.
Can we talk about how much boys after flowers communicates similarly toxic messages that is ignored to be haled as a classic series for the ages
-yazy

"I don't even know you exist, therefore you want me!"

I can’t believe I enjoyed the show as a 15yo. I think one of the best shoujo relationships is one from Kimi ni todoke. It was slow yet beautiful.
Agreed! That show was so precious and wholesome and I just felt good watching it! Both leads were actually likeable people who I'd hang out with in real life :)
Wolf Girl and Black Prince is the toxic relationship that is literally in every Chinese webtoon.
That why I stopped reading these Chinese romance mahua .
That’s why Chinese BL is better(cough cough) TGCF, MDZS,SVSSS(cough cough)
a worse shoujo anime that is also under reverse harem genre (& is a popular one sadly) is diabolik lovers.
Maybe they love diabolisk lovers or have not yet watched it
@@trika91 don't forget Kamisama Kiss, Yona of the dawn, and the OG OHSHC
When people say Maid sama is problematic l, show them this. I couldn't get past 2 eps of this show. The only good thing about it is the ending theme.
_people call maid sama problematic?_
@Velociraptor516 AKA HJM yeah,,,, the actually makes some sense
Maid sama is problematic for sure, BUT it is NO WHERE near as BAD as this shit💀
We need more shoujo anime that talk about relational aggression like gaslighting, ultimatums, verbal abuse, isolation, and other forms of manipulation. So many times if a show wants to portray an abusive character, they just have them hit their spouse, but manipulative abuse is usually the red flag that leads to physical abuse.
"Look a flying Yorkshire terrier!"
That's it. That's the best part of the anime.
I’ve only read the manga but I don’t remember it being this bad. In fact it was actually pretty darn good, but this description makes me wonder how much they changed the anime from the manga.
I watched the anime and read the manga, manga is better but I think they made him slightly worse in the anime.
It actually wasn’t that bad. If was just kind bland
I also remembered liking the manga when I was younger so I am unsure how the anime got really bad :P
However I agree that it wasn't the best shoujo ou there
If it was me, I’d rewrite Wolf Girl and Black Prince like this :
Our protag is caught up in the lie like before, but when she asks him to help her keep up the lie, he says no, saying that it would only put more eyes on her.
Now that would actually be adorable, if only.
So this is: What if Light from Death Note never found the Death Note
Bat -chan i think they were just saying that light is a manipulative dick, besides, if he didn't have the death note there would be no reason for his and misa's relationship
I'm pretty sure this anime helped delusion me into romanticizing an unhealthy relationship I was in at like 19 lol. And I don't have any romance animes to reccomend, but you should give Kuma Miko a watch cause that is a dumpster fire of an anime that left me uncomfortable for like a week.
This reminds me of a manga called Hot Gimmick. It was equally horrifying.
Omg i remember reading that!
What’s so bad about that manga?
Just putting this out there: Thumbnail Yazy reminds me of Asuka, the pro wrestler.

My friend made me watch this when it first aired so that we had something to watch together and the only reason I kept watching every episode is because I wanted to know if he would get better or nicer and there relationship would work out and be a cute couple but no it was just he's a arse he never got better
i can't believe it took years for someone to talk about how shitty this anime is
The moment that pun sinks in was such a genuine moment, makes these off-script things really fun to watch!
YES.
I recommend watching Kimi ni Todoke and Lovely Complex. The couples there are pure.
I feel like y'all would have some strong words abt vampire knight if you've seen it LmAOOO
Even worse, Diabolik Lovers.
Ik this comment is late but fr I watched it and when I was younger and like for some reason I loved it but like now I'm like a wait a damn minute abt it. I honestly really didn't like the relationship between kaname and yuki at all and I wasn't a big fan of yuki and zeros relationship much either.
Vampire knight wasn’t abusive... WHAT?
Vampire knights was bad bc of the incest and the fact that Yuki got with her BROTHER over Zero who clearly was the better choice, This anime is just….God bro idek anymore..
4:55: So, the asshole treats her like shit and immediately follows it with a kind(ish) gesture? Holy shit, that is literally how abusive relationships work. What is wrong with these people?
Probably for the same reason as 50 shades of grey, people like to portray abusive relationships as common, and now too many people accept it.
People who have went through such trauma can understand just how dark this anime really is, and it scares me because alot of impressionable girls will watch this thinking this is what an ideal guy is like and get themselves into horrible and traumatic situations that might end up scarring them.

ahh, okay but after rewatching the series because i remember liking it, the relationship was really not that toxic.
@@starshine6767 sounds like you have been well groomed...
I think the worst is vampire knight. Not much is worse than having child with your great great etc…grandfather in the body of your biological brother😃
I was hoping for her to leave him. She literally had another cute, not a red flag, guy interested in her

I thought the end of the manga had them having one kid and him debating if he was truly happy?

@@averageanimefan519"You're truly happy now right?" It's a question thrown at him by his friends and his own mother.

I'm glad someone's talking about this, I couldn't finish reading it.
i remember when this show was coming out and i saw a lot of posts going around condemning it for condoning abuse and unhealthy relationships, which i guess means i follow the right people! but it honestly disappoints me that content like this runs so rampant with so many people thinking it's okay or even actively enjoying it. it makes me worry about The Youth(tm). like, if you wanna fantasize about being in a relationship that might be less than healthy, okay fine, i get it, i self insert ship with dio brando. but it's super irresponsible to share content supporting that kind of dynamic in a way that makes it seem desirable and healthy. it's not. keep that shit to yourself, in your brain, where you actually know what a healthy relationship looks like and nobody can get hurt.
additional note: the relationship dynamic in this show reminds me a lot of the worst manga i've ever read, which was also a shoujo romance in which the guy(s) involved exercises a lot of power over the girl in a pretty alarming way. it's called black bird, and fortunately it never got an anime adaptation! i read part of it when i was 13 and somehow had the worldly awareness to know it was a shitty relationship even back then.
