I had this polisher and it was terrible for corrections got a griots garage g9 and that blew it out of the water. I would recommend people to save up for the dewalt DA or milwaukee if you want quality cordless corrections.
Difficulty I have is having previously broken a mid thumb joint are those awful top switches, much prefer trigger soft starts. In particular the ShineMate is the only dedicated 3" I've found with a proper trigger similar to 5" polishers. For those with an injury who prefer trigger control as oppose to lock and free running, for me the SM range is the only interchangable cordless units out there.
@@13pcbs I agree that's my only complaint with the g9 I also have a g8 to go with it and it's so good. But it seems like griots polishers at least the newer ones have cheap triggers. The milwaukee m18 rotary has a really good trigger.
Hey Brian I had the chance to help them redesign this tool but the marketing manager was lazy and didn’t want to make the effort, I’ve actually still got the prototype
Another great review Brian. I noticed the backing plate already had heat damage right in the middle opposite the spindle. That coupled with the heat reading you got off of the motor, I would have too pass on this one. The ergonomics are not good and the absence of a soft start outweigh the attractive price point.
I’ve owned this polisher for over a year and quickly realised its not for heavy correction work. I now only use it as the final stage or a quick once over polish. The larger 5amp battery will complete a full car in my experience. Great and honest review thanks. 👍🏼
I like it. Have mine for 2 years now. Only used it on a few cars, but great value for money. Got two batteries and that’s a must. Best regards Kenneth from Norway
I only use this to bring gloss after my final step or final wax. Very good price. It is very light. I use gloss pads. I bought two more batteries. Not for correction.
Thanks for taking the time to review this, Brian. I have been considering this very polisher. I already have some Ryobi tools, batteries and a couple of chargers. The lightness of the unit sounds appealing, also would be nice to ditch the cord which my current Simoniz polisher has. Think this would work well for my needs (hobbyist, light enhancements and minimize love marks on my own vehicles). Think I might just go for it come spring. Appreciate you taking the time to make this review.
Been looking at it also, as I'm also looking at getting into the Ryobi line of other tools, I have the G8/G9 kit now but have been looking at this for a cordless DA
I picked one of these up last week because of the price. Yeah same here, weak on lower speeds but fine above 4k and got very warm even after grease swap. I got for laying/removing wax. I already have chargers/batts otherwise I would’ve recommend. Very lite and strong enough for lite duty work. The pads included were even very decent. Keep up the good work love the videos.
I so admire that you take a new machine apart and make it better. That is really bespoke. Always wonder does your experience choose that pad and compound or do you test with other combinations? Your videos are always appreciated
I’ve been using this polisher about 6 months. Stalls easily unless running full speed. Requires large batteries 4Ah or5 Ah for good productivity. I’m still a fan of corded machines.
I have this polisher and many others. I like it is there better yes but the price is good. I have a lot of batteries 🔋 because I have the tools. Was waiting for this review. Thanks and enjoy your 4th 🧨🚀👊🏼
I like the size and weight of the polisher but it needs more power to get my money. The heat build up is also a big concern. Thank you as always for the video.
I have been using it for a couple years. I'm deep in the ryobi brand anyway. 20 plus batteries. I Manly use it for motorcycles and light enhancement. I do wish the battery was sideways but been good thus far .
Brian, do you recommend swapping out the grease on all polishers? I remember the HFT 20mm review and I can see why, but I have the G8/G9 kit and wonder if I should RedWolf those?
I have several "6 pads that I have never used. Would you still recommend a 5" D/A vs. a 6" D/A because of the throw? I was told that the 5" is better. Thnx.
I’ll stick with my DeWalt polisher. Besides being a fan boy of their power tools, I have many high amp batteries. I’m just a weekend warrior with my wife’s Ford Ecosport (small) and my Ford F-350 4X4. So it works for me. I spend my money on quality products. My summer project is doing a frame restoration of my F350. Prepping for the POR-15 paint I feel is very important & time consuming! So once I put the truck back together a 2 step process will complete the project. Thanks Brian for another great informative video!
Avoid this tool. They break the internal battery contacts due to vibration. The Vibration pad compresses leaving it susceptible to vibration. All 3 I bought failed the same and Ryobi refused to warrant them.
Brian, I'm a "home gamer" with both corded Griots polishers (G8 and G9). I'm a tool guy first and a car detail guy second. I'm currently bought into Dewalt and Milwaukee lines. My question is, does this lower throw polisher actually have a place in your professional setting? I'm very much on the fence about the Milwaukee battery unit, the dewalt seems too bulky for me. I'm just curious if from a professional standpoint you see a use for these polishers with a shorter throw as opposed to reaching for something with a longer throw? If so, when would you opt to go that direction and why?
It need a bigger battery to pull the amps maybe that is why it gets hot Many other cordless needs bigger battery to get full potential! Like a torque gun
This would be fine for enhancements....maybe one steps. Anything beyond that I could not recommend this polisher.

I have a 40V weed whacker / edger and also a leaf blower that I love. I affectionately call them Ryobi One Kenobi.

Did you buy it?
You like it?
You are absolutely correct…this is for finish work only.👍🏻

What grease did you use?
How’d you get the back platypus off, I took off the three screws but could it pull it off
@@kevin_ramirez2529 apex has another video that he mentions showing how to get into the tool if that helps cheers
@@caseG80 thanks, I gotta check it out

I think it need larger battery to deliver power...
Small battery nor enough
I must be honest I wasn't sure I saw the need for a cordless but stayed for that big ol' handsome dog of yours.

I got it at HD today , thanks

Really good review, Brian. Very through, and I liked at the end your suggestion for whom this Ryobi may be a good fit.
Great polisher review...as usual.
Now if Milwaukee would come out with one, that would be great! Awesome video Brian
They just did.
They have had one out before this one
Another great video and review Brian , hope you have a Happy 4th .
Hey Brian, what do you think of using this polisher with a 3 inch backing plate for smaller areas where a micro polisher would be too small?
The Makita 18 volt can turn forced rotation on and off. Its magic.
cool little tool to finish up! like You said, Light !!!! Happy 4th from Canada by the Way! ;-)
I have been using it for a couple years. I'm deep in the ryobi brand anyway. 20 plus batteries. I Manly use it for motorcycles and light enhancement. I do wish the battery was sideways but been good thus far .
Hey can you go over in more detail how to change the grease on the Ryobi?
Thanks
Apex, what would’ve your favorite go to polisher ? Thanks for good honest reviews as always.
Brian, do you recommend swapping out the grease on all polishers? I remember the HFT 20mm review and I can see why, but I have the G8/G9 kit and wonder if I should RedWolf those?
Please tell me why do you switch the grease
Thanks very much for your video. Does this perform better than ryobi random orbit buffer?
I guess it would have cost them too much money to turn the battery sideways? I'm sure it polishes as well. Thanks Brian!
I have this polisher, I’m interested in changing the grease complete video, thanks👍🇺🇸💋
Yea me too, he cut it off right before, bummer.
Yes Please !
im between this and the griot g9, DIY'er who would only use one a year. What would you recommend? No power cord would be nice but not a deal breaker
Thank you Brian, is the thread 5/16 on plate
Really appreciate your chanel

Nice review, thanks
Hi! can it remove deep scratches? 1000 or 1500?
where did you get the pads you used in this video and can you spell it?
This can be had open box or lightly used for $100. I say its a no brainer IF you have ryobi batteries already.
is the SPTA cordless better for paint correction
Did you figure this out? I'm on the fence between the SPTA and this Ryobi cordless and I don't have Ryobi tools to sway me that way either.
@@reyesmaria323 no ma’am but from what I’ve seen there is a few that love the SPTA
@Cody McDonald I'm seeing that too, thanks!
One important difference is the throw - the SPTA has a 15mm throw, vs 8mm for the Ryobi. If I had to guess, that would make the SPTA superior
Yes better
Which pad did you use for the demo?
pricing wise how much did you charge for the outside polishing job how long did the outside job take trying to get my pricing together
$300
Wow the dewalt is a brute compared to the ryobi I’d still go with the dewalt

Not having to deal with a cord is amazing; however, having a nice stack of batteries can be pricey.
How does it compare with the Milwaukee M18 version?
What would you recommend for a beginner who needs to do a one step?
Sounds like this one Amazon has it took only 125$ right now
Happy 4th!
Can I use my 6 inch pads with this polisher?
What are your thoughts about this vs a flex?
Like a Chevrolet vs Rolls-Royce 😁
Avoid this tool. They break the internal battery contacts due to vibration. The Vibration pad compresses leaving it susceptible to vibration. All 3 I bought failed the same and Ryobi refused to warrant them.
Seems like you liked it while it worked since you bought 3. If I don't use it often and it will last me years is it worth it to get for about $100?

I have the same two Griots polishers. Just ordered the Milwaukee M18 to compliment them. Looking forward to giving it a try.
Seems more powerful with 6ah and 9ah batteries.
It need a bigger battery to pull the amps maybe that is why it gets hot

I think all the Ryobi tools in this range are just handyman tools. No serious tradesman would use them.
Paid $83 dollars today at direct tools
awesome video and product review good friend. not terrible 4 it's price point
U weighed it with different batteries
Happy 4th of July!
🎉🎆🇺🇸
Great vid but wrong comparison.
If a DA can’t do heavy polishing then it’s just not worth my monies.
The shop manager did not have to dodge the power cord once. That is a big plus.
Your camera and video quality is so bad that we can't see any difference LOLL

Its pure garbage no grunt...wax application thats it. Go with Milwaukee if you want pro level machine
I think it needs a bigger battery like a 4 amp to pull power many tools do this
shop Mgr doesn't looked impressed at all.shes keeping her eyes out 4 people not carrying the shops work load..😆😆😆😆
