One thing I’m trying this year is to add in 5-minute pickups (from Dana K White) a couple times a day, before lunch, before dinner and before bed. For five minutes I go around looking for things that can be put away or thrown out. At first, I could only make it through one area. The more I do this, it seems like I get through more spaces in 5 minutes.
These are great tips! One thing i heard that's really helped me is to "stop holding onto things that belonged to a past version of yourself who no longer exists." I had so much stuff that fit that description and I feel so much lighter having gotten rid of it. That girl is dead, I dont need her stuff!
Quick tip for dry eyes I learned is to palm: as in put the palm of your hands over your eyes (loosely without pressing on your eyeballs at all) blocking out any light and think about something pleasant! This is like a reset for your eyes! I do it all the time and it makes my eyes feel a lot better. Idk if this will be helpful to you, but since you mentioned using eye drops I thought I’d share just in case it could be of use😊 I don’t have dry eyes necessarily, but I palm a lot because I’m curing my myopia and it’s one of the natural things you can do for it. It works for dry eyes too as dry eyes can be a symptom of eye strain and palming relaxes the eyes and reduces strain. Anyways, I’m trying to get more organized as well, so I really appreciated hearing your perspective on it!
Tell me about curing your myopia! I had laser eye surgery a decade ago and im around 20/40 right now. I know there’s natural things you can do to strengthen your eyesight… I have these special pinhole glasses I use on my walks to help me focus better on far away stuff. I’ll try the palming thank youuuuuu
@ you’re so welcome! I honestly love talking about it because it’s been life changing for me! The absolute best way to better your eyesight is the Bates method, I actually found out about it through a yt comment section! Dr. Bate’s book ‘Perfect Eyesight Without Glasses’ is free online and it is, of course, the best way to learn abt it, though Nathan Oxenfeld here on yt makes good videos on it as well. Bates discovered through many years of experiments and working as a clinician that the main cause of eye problems is eye strain. So his methods aim to eliminate strain. Basically, he believed that vision is effortless the same as hearing is, the issue comes because we’re conditioned to believe everything requires effort. Trying to see something causes strain; we need to learn to relax! I’ve been doing the Bates method for a year (I started dec 3 2023) and I have almost perfect vision in full sunlight. I’m still getting to where I can read letters further then six inches, but I see form and color great. My night vision has also improved greatly. ( I was -5, -4 just for reference🙂) One thing Bates taught is that vision is constantly fluctuating, and I’ve absolutely seen that because my vision is better some days than others, but I can tell that it’s slowly getting better bit by bit everyday and it is such a wonderful feeling! I feel it’s taking me longer because I’ve had to get over 12 years of wearing glasses-they made my eyes so numb! My sister has perfect vision and she unconsciously follows all of Bate’s methods! Isn’t that nuts?! I was shocked when I started explaining the book to her and she was like “yeah, I do that.” What happened to me????😂😂😂 Bates book completely changed my understanding of vision. It makes so much SENSE how he explains it and there’s no doom and gloom like most things today about vision. His method also explains why eye exercises help your eyes a little but don’t cure them, which was my experience when I did them. Nathan Oxenfeld has good videos, like I said, but I do not recommend Jake at Endmyopia, he’s turned the Bates method (completely free like I said) into a money-making deal. I hope that makes sense! Like I said, I can talk about this all day, I’m so passionate!😂 I hate the despair eye doctors feed us when it comes to vision and I just really wish everyone could learn the Bates method so they don’t have to feel hopeless as I once did.
What helped me was taking a month and I have to thank the minimalists for this one. So for example for the 1 day of the month you get rid of one item on the second day you get rid of 2 and so on so by the end of it you have gotten rid of a lot of things.. It really helped me plus doing a no buy or low buy year helps too. I have been doing this last one for a long time and it really helps to save money and reduce the clutter in your house. I agree with buying quality items versus low quality items based on what you can afford to buy without going into debt.
It might seem crazy but doing no-buy challenges helps! You start really analyzing what you have, and use, and I always end up donating or selling stuff while I am doing these! So double win: you don't buy and you get rid of extra stuff. It also helps that we live at 4 in a 90m2 appartment in Europe - it seems small by american standards but is regular size here. And you have to keep things to a manageable volume bc you don't have much extra space ad no garage lol!!
Seems like a very complete list to me. I have sentimental items but they don't bother me as clutter, they're are part of my past, childhood stuff and I'm fine with keeping them. I have a bin of my daughters keep sake items also. She knows all about the items and how important they are to me. When she visited the last time, she lives in another state, we actually went through the bins in the storage closet and rehashed all the memories. I did send her home with a few boxes of "her" items!
I love a simpler, less cluttered area but I'm my own worst enemy because I buy a lot of home repair stuff, paint things that I will need. Unfortunately sometimes my projects are sidetracked because of Life's endless circumstances. So then my shop/home gets cluttered w paint cans, brushes, piles of camping/survivalist gear. I learned that unless I'm going to do a project, don't get the stuff till I'm ready. Clutter causes me a lot of stress. I'm at my happiest when I can live lighter. I love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to make such wonderful UA-cam videos. I love your channel. 🙏💗
I appreciate you sharing all this and I'm glad you like the content! This is exactly what is happening to me rn LOL. I was supposed to finish my back unit a while ago but, decided to focus more on UA-cam HAHAHAH. So while I'm glad I came back to UA-cam, I still have to figure out how to finish the back. Hopefully UA-cam can help me just hire someone to finish it, gonna keep saving up LOLLLLLL
For me if it's coffee cups or blouses/tees, my rule is 1 in 2 out. I accumulate A LOT of adorable tops and cups but then later realize it doesn't fit as comfortable as I thought or that coffee cup handle doesn't feel nice in my hand. May sound a bit odd but I'm a texture/sensory kinda gal.
@@natashatheresa read it so not it's a quote but very useful especially for problematic areas. Reduce storage amount you allow yourself will reduce the amount of stuff - definitely helped me.
Souvenir = penny squashing machine. 🙂 I have embossed (smashed) pennies from every trip or vacation and they can all fit in something the size of a ring box.
I wouldnt throw out everything has purely no function, keeping like old toys for kids nostalgic sake would be important for, since im also really nostalgic about some old toys or drawings i have lying around. Add it to the decoration pile. Some people feel depressed if its so extremly minimalistic.
I'm in the market for a new winter jacket and saw you liked yours? Can I ask what brand/model so I can look into it or something similar? Thanks in advance! Haven't been following for too long but appreciate your approach to life, originally found you searching for floor desk info 😊

Amen! This helps me a lot, to just accept that I am no longer a person who uses certain things so I need to just let them go!
Your smile, energy, and laugh bring so much joy!

It's nice to see a decluttering/minimalism video from you again! It's been such a huge key to living well for me too.
Thanks Jenny!!

Also the if your leaving a room take crap or plates with you!
Oh yes that’s a good one!!!
"Tackle the nest before the pest" create specific areas and storage for specific things. If I have more than I can fit in, some of it has to go.
What a catchy saying, thank you for sharing that!!
