The Surprising Truth About Floor Sitting Nobody Tells Us
Sitting on the floor has so many health benefits, and when you do it regularly, it can add years to your life. Not just years, QUALITY years. Reduce your aches and pains by floor sitting and staying sprightly. Don't sleep on this, well actually, yes, sleep on the floor and sit on it. Nobody talks about this, but if you make this one small change in your life, you will notice immense benefits. Thank me later, and yes, it's okay to be weird if it means you stay sprightly.

    that desk is really interesting. i will have to see if i can get one, or something similar in Bangkok when i move to my new studio. my day job is as an art and design teacher for an international school. i built a standing desk in my studio space at school and had the traditional desk removed. This is very timely for me. As my wife and I are about to move into a new building that will be both our home and our studio spaces, we have been discussing how we might transition to working/living from the floor. When my wife was a student at the Royal Academy of Art in Bangkok, she and her classmates would work on the floor all day in a traditional style. As a result, she developed some amazing core strength. We have been discussing this since then, but our current studio spaces design was so well baked in that it didn't make sense to uproot everything and change. Now that we are moving to a new, bigger space, it seems like the right time to make that transition. Both being in our forties, we see a lot of value in that lifestyle shift, for many of the reasons you pointed out, especially mobility, strength and fall prevention.

    Love this. Have you considered also how certain clothing items make sitting on the floor challenging? I got to thank you for this video, it's what convinced me to commit to get a futon. I got mine straight from Japan in a queen size and with sheets and comforter as well. So far it's been two weeks and - oh my god! I'm thirty years old, I've had mattresses my whole life and with my last one I had the tendency to wake up over and over at night to get comfortable again, and it was a twin so it was little space and even more little as my room was so small. Now with my futon, I've slept the entire night! My alarm wakes me up mostly - unless nature calls at night, but even then I fall back asleep so fast! My random aches and pains are gone, and putting my futon away wakes me up in the morning as I move around. I've recently aired it out and sunned it, and it was pretty easy. I've actually starting taking a nap on my floor at times when I'm too lazy to roll out my futon. Speaking of my room, so much more space now! I can move so well! It's great! Thank you for the video again!

I'm 36(its not even old) and I can still easily asiansquat walk under desks,, but I have coworkers who are younger who have trouble just squating. Sitting Seiza style hurts the top bones of my feet, though (I'd need a pillow to sit like that for a long time)

      Nice!!! My son is like that, in regular chairs he always sits on them like as if he's on the floor hahaha. Glad to hear you are staying sprightly! Also, I'm the same with the Seiza, if I sit like that usually I'm on a mat or pillow.

Someone just told me in my latest video comments they had 2 herniated discs and started sleeping on the floor 2 months ago and now their pain is so much lessened so they can work out again! I wish the same for you!!!

    Hey Tasha, you talk a lot of sense - I'm 50, out of condition, need to lose weight & have Type 1 diabetes & other related underlying health conditions which can make things more difficult in general. I just sat on the floor & thought I'm going to get up without relying on my hands & whatever I could grab onto 🤣 I had to use one knee, but I managed to do it 🙌 Hopefully if I can keep doing this I'll be able to do what you do & use no hands to get up. I definitely need to move more though & today is when it starts 😊

    How do you feel and what do you think about sleeping on a hammock? I got rid of my bed and I've been sleeping on a hammock for about a month now. It has taken a little bit to get used to but sometimes I'm also a little concerned that there may be any health implications, what are your thoughts? I know a lot of people in many cultures still sleep in hammocks. The main reason I've done this is to simplify and minimize the items in my house and also for hygiene reasons, one just needs to ask any person when was the last time they washed up their mattress. 🫢🤢

    I’m 41, which doesn’t feel old to me, but it’s surprising how many people my age are struggling with things like getting up from the floor. Often it’s due to a lack of flexibility. I work as a gym instructor (as well as an English teacher!) and I regularly remind clients to stretch for a few minutes every day at home, but hardly anyone does it. It’s sad to see people struggle with mobility when even a small amount of exercise would make a big improvement.

    • @natashatheresa
      @natashatheresa 12 днів тому

      this is so true! i honestly can't say that I stretch regularly myself, but whenever I'm on the floor it usually comes naturally... I feel like many people would either have to make it a part of their checklist, or stack it as a habit on top of something else to make sure it gets done (maybe watching tv at the end of the day), or having it as a part of their nighttime routine and have a checklist. otherwise we just kinda float through our days and dont' have as much intentionality as we should, even though it's those little things that would compound and make a big difference over time. great food for thought, thank you!
