Hey, so you know how I said it "shouldn't take another 7 months" to make part 3? Well, I'm still technically right about that, because it'll take a full year. Other things came up, and priorities changed, but part 3 will be out on September 3rd. (By the way, the original 'Tale of Three Kitties' video is in the Old Stuff playlist you can find on the channel)
Hey! Look at you, overcoming your own expectations! I’ve only read Heathcliff from a book, probably 80s or 90s, feels good to know it’s evolved in such a fitting way. You make great videos man, cheers 👍
Heathcliff is perfectly set to be some archeological mystery in 300 years, like naturally some comics, and thus context will be destroyed, plus there’s Garfield for future archeologists to confuse him with.
(the internet talking about the creator of Garfield and John as a different person) Do you expect everything to just implode one day? The internet is gonna be discovered when our successor civilization accidentally makes devices that connect to the one machine that still survives and they're going to melt
It's strangely inspiring that, despite barely being known and having barely any viewers you still make videos of excellent quality. Where others would be disparaged at the low numbers you instead keep making the highest quality videos you can. Truly an admirable feat.
Thank you for the kind words, that means a lot! My philosophy on it is, an audience may or may not come with time. But if it never "takes off," at least we got to make something that's worth watching.
@camwing that's pretty good. I've preferred the "I'm gonna make stuff to show off, and if I don't get a lot of attention quickly I'll be mad" approach myself
The bit about his uncles rejecting his ideas makes me think that, at least on some level, the strip is a meta-joke about the necessarily repetitive nature of humor in a daily comic strip. But it is not a parody, it does not denigrate the medium in any way. Conversely, it revels in it, exalts it. It's a unique comic and I enjoy it every day.
As someone who LOVES absurdist humor, i was WHEASING at all of the heathcliff comics esoechally the "dont buy the ham" one, idk why, it just broke something in me and I had to pause to laugh
Love the video! I found myself I stumbled into Heathposting a little over a year ago with a silly idea (The Heathyorker) and discovered a pure corner of Twitter. The little mental health break of making that edit is always a highlight of my day. So often I'm hitting refresh on The New Yorker website eager to see the second half of the day's absurd puzzle.
I immediately laughed at the first comic. No idea why but the best I could venture was that it’s absurdist nature was much like deep fried memes and other comedic expression that references its genre/format in a way that is simultaneously reductive and insightful. That or my brain is mush and dumb things make me laugh. Either way I’m good with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So I just linked this video on another channel, Captain KRB. He has another fun video on Heathcliff: ua-cam.com/video/5GzmmHf7jYw/v-deo.htmlsi=3Z_hBTXunEVoCBri and although his channel isn't quite "the same" as this one, both his and this channel are fantastic!
UA-cam is a strange beast. I was watching a meme compilation and saw that Joe Biden meme and loved it so much that I had to look it up and save it. I wanted to find the one you posted, but didn’t see it, and it didn’t really matter to me since I just wanted the clip itself. The next day I find your channel through the worst games on steam video, and fall down a heathcliff rabbit hole ending up loving the comic strip before ending up here and finding out through a HEATHCLIFF video that the meme I love so much was pretty much the only meme video you’ve ever made. Life is so weird and wonderful sometimes. I also just realized that you’re past content was deleted I guess which explains why I couldn’t find your clip
aw fuck it’s a heathcliff video ok after watching the video here’s my dumb take on heathcliff: what i like about heathcliff is the simplicity of it. that’s pretty much it, heathcliff being a simple comic. it’s just one panel in a square squiggly box with a line below that briefly “”explains”” what’s going on the image. for the average reader it’ll just be a silly comic with a orange cat doing strange things, but to an observant reader they will carefully analyse the comic and ask themselves “what do they mean by this?”. now some may just brush it off and then carry on their day, but then there are others that want to seek some meaning behind it and go check the other comics. and when they check those comics they will soon find out it’s just the same absurd layout; one panel, one box, one image and one line. just like that, the amount of layers packed into one single panel, for one simple joke is all it needs. sure there’s some running gags there such as the ‘manual’ and the various labeled helmets, but it adds more of the absurdity up into the punchlines. it may not be popular within the masses, but it’s certainly better than a 3 panel copy paste cat smoking a pipe. anyways, all we need to know is that children love the MEAT tank and so should you. PS: thanks for making me obsess with another orange cat
Man your channel is incredible, I love your work and your ways of explaining things a lot. Keep up the good work! Im gonna go read some comics while you do that...
It was when you decided to make the spreadsheet that did ne in. I've also had moments of weird compulsion to catalog to understand something and in hindsight it's the tipping point in a new fixation. I'm really glad I found this series, and Heathcliff is a fair bit more dear to me now because of it.
Very surprised the animated series was barely brought up, loved that as a kid even though I was born two decades after it came out, I had so many DIC cartoon VHS tapes. That’s how I was introduced to Heathcliff.
It's best to think of them as completely separate entities. The DIC series had very little involvement from the Gallagher brothers, and its current author is trying to treat the comic as its own thing. I've been thinking about doing another video on the TV series specifically, maybe someday
Heath cliff, Heath Cliff no one could terrify the neighborhood and heath cliff. Just won’t be undone playing pranks on everyone. I think that’s how this song went,
Imagine if you actually printed all the editing elements onto real paper and figured out how distracting the changing background is when you actually watch the video in an idle state That would be crazy
We're working on it! But it almost certainly won't be the next video. I've actually been working directly with Peter Gallagher on a video project of his, so I'm hoping I can snag him for an interview in part 3. It was originally going to be finished by like, February, but a lot has changed since then. For whatever it's worth, I promise it hasn't been abandoned.
Amazing video, and great explanation. I fully understand the premise of the comic. I still find it amazingly not funny, but maybe that is the charm of it🤔. I have to contemplate about that idee now😅. Anyhow.... amazing work and keep up the quality 😇💪🏻
I don't understand anything of Heathcliff And I'm just laughing at the level of closed jokes because I know WHAT Healthcliff is But I can't find the actual joke so it's just a "What? Hahh?" type of reaction
So is Stage 4 Furry or is it Fear? Either way Stage 4 Begins with an F. Anthropomorphic cats and Mel Blanc. Ick🤢 Don't get me Started on Shag Carpets, Cleo is Hotter than Sonya. Garfield is Cooler than Heathcliff. Oh Stage 4 is Depression.

Run on gages that only make sense if you see them in order. Right?
Let me guess, is the special guest George Gately?
Hey! Look at you, overcoming your own expectations!
I’ve only read Heathcliff from a book, probably 80s or 90s, feels good to know it’s evolved in such a fitting way.
You make great videos man, cheers 👍
I would love to see an archive of all your videos, even the "bad" ones

As a wise man once said "Cats rejoice at the garbage ape's approach"
25 minute video about heathcliff? That’s a sub
Excellent stuff here. Love the way it's edited/animated. Well done!
As someone who LOVES absurdist humor, i was WHEASING at all of the heathcliff comics esoechally the "dont buy the ham" one, idk why, it just broke something in me and I had to pause to laugh
Amazing video, aprecciated the shout out to heath twitter.
Heathcliff Twitter is an integral part of the experience as far as I'm concerned

you can see the evolution of ‘old comic’ style of editing between this video and the next in the heathcliff series
Such a well put together vid (also nice to see heathcliff slowly get some sorta cult following)
"Heathcliff, Heathcliff, no one should terrify the neighborhood!" Love that show, I watched it every early morning in third grade.
This is awesome and so satisfying
I immediately laughed at the first comic. Here because Peter Gallagher tweeted your video!
Did you...put the hex code colours of both orange cats on screen for a literal second? Amazing.
damn, I always thought heathcliff was a nock-off of Garfield. Good video
This is the most unique comedy I've ever seen in a comic.
Underrated video and channel. Needed this lesson on Heathcliff, I completely wrote the comic off when I saw the meat hats.
I used to read this as a kid I loved it to be honest
Here's hoping part 3 has its own thumbnail

Not deleted, just unlisted. You can find all my old stuff in the playlists, including the Biden one.

672 views? This does not feel like a video that should have so few views. What the heck

I didn't know Heathcliff was a psychological horror
You are criminally underrated
I love how he hints a year before about the video comes out, he was going to do satisfactory!
Jesus Christ dude. this is an excellent and polished video essay. why does it barely have any views?
I’m so excited I found your channel!!! I can’t wait to binge all of it and eagerly await your next upload

Wow. Strong work.

Alright, you've piqued my curiosity. My Google search wasn't helpful for those acronyms, what are they?

Maybe it's because I'm high but rhe first strip you showed killed me
Heathcliff out making new breeds 😂
Fun fact: in Spain, the cat had an animated series in which it was called Isidoro.
