For sure there are differences. I've had my windshield replaced through an insurance claim and they replaced the "Shatterprufe" brand with "Fuyao" due to the Chinese glass being the cheapest. I immediately noticed a significantly higher dashboard reflection than with the "Shatterprufe" brand, which is the OEM manufacturer for my car where I live. Long story short - the Fuyao glass reflected so much and the insurance refused to replaced it again - I had to replace the glass again out of my own pocket. It made a HUGE difference in dashboard reflection.

We call Fuyao " Fuck you guy glass".
As when they first came out, they sucked bad.
They do make good glass, most of the time these days though. The glass company should have done the replacement for free if there was a legit issue.
I recommend not using that Business again if you did talk to them about it, within their warranty of return. Although distribution companies often screw us. Even so, we would just bite the bullet.

    There can be important differences:
The UV resistance can be much less than original leading to more heat more reflection on the inside, the tint of the screen can be slightly different which can be a problem for the rain - light sensors- I replaced a windshield on an old car and got the cheapest since the car wasn't worth much.. the rain sensor worked all the time after the change.

I have a Fuyao windshield on my Subaru. It cracks constantly, from different directions even when parked and not in use. It lasted about 4 months. It never had any rock impacts or anything. The optical quality was poor compared with stock Subaru windshield. No noticable UV protection like stock windshield. I regret replacing the stock windshield that had tiny rock chips. It was still much better than a new Fuyao windshield. I've owned 6 car. Fuyao is the first windshield that cracked. I'm always careful with my windshield.

I also did not like the lighter tint on a new fuyao windshield, also it had two optical distortions. Got it replaced with Original windshield Part (which is also not perfekt and unlike the original from band)

    Update:
    20-year glass vet here now.
I install ADAS glass all the time.
Right now the only vehicle having issues with aftermarket is GM.
Editing this because there are now many good aftermarket options for the GM LDWS issue. However, I do not recommend Pilkington at this point in time if you have LDWS.

Those glass companies that don't make good glass rarely make it to the big US distributors.

I have a Jeep Wrangler Sport and the OEM has the decal, aftermarket doesn't. And insurance companies outside of Texas are a rip off. Full coverage in Arizona vs Texas resulted in 'Pay More Get Less' ... Premium went up by $400.00 and coverage amounts have been lowered on occurrence. To add insult to injury, windshield coverage cost extra, and you still have to pay for OEM. They only cover 1/2 the cost unless I go with aftermarket. I miss my 🏡 country!

The quality / durability of the OE glass far surpasses that of the OEM. The OE has to withstand all damage during test drives as the vehicle cannot be sold as “new” with a damaged or replaced windshield. The vehicle manufacturer will have to pay the dealer for glass replacement until the new vehicle is sold, therefore slicing already thin margins made on vehicle sales. That is why glass manufacturers have to guarantee the vehicle manufacture the windshield will last until vehicle is sold, and the oem glass does not have the same requirements. The baking time of the OE glass manufacturing process is twice that of the OEM time. Same safety standards are met but durability of glass is less on the OEM parts.

      That's not true whatsoever.
I replace glass on vehicles that have literally just come off the truck.
80% of new vehicles have some kind of repairs done to them before they are even sold.
You would be amazed the see how common damage happens in transit.
Also, aftermarket glass is far better than OE, or OEM. If you say otherwise then you have been fooled by salesmen looking to charge you more.
Very rarely have I ever seen an OE part for any product be better than a good aftermarket part.
No matter if we are talking about parts for cars, computers, or tools. I'm not sure why Aftermarket has such a bad rep in glass replacement.?
I would take the cheapest glass installed by a great tech over a great glass installed by a bad tech every time.
When you upgrade a car for anything, may it be racing. They use Aftermarket, not OE or OEM.
Also, the only difference between OE and OEM is that OE is the part that came on that car stock.
So if you take an OE part from one car and put it on another car. That part by definition becomes an OEM part.
      Original Equipment = OE
      Original Equipment Manufacture = OEM
All OE and OEM parts are made by aftermarket companies.

I have been installing windshields over 14yrs now and i dont recommend oem glass waste of money. Best advice is get a installer that has great reviews. You shouldn't hear any noises after u get a new windshield installed if u do it wasnt done right. Never go with cheapest guy in town most likely u will end up having a leak and cost u hundreds or thousands from water damage. Only reason you would go oem is if u have extra money or u have a luxurious car that has many sensors on it.

Well, thats Not from the Glas, the Sound Comedy From the Installation. ASK for improvement By the installer

    • @glassdotcom
      @glassdotcom  Рік тому

Sometimes wind noise will sound "different" after an installation. Not necessarily better or worse, but different because the car is now slightly different. However, if you're experiencing excessive wind noise, this is typically caused by a molding/trim issue. Mouldings that are removed and reinstalled might lose their original shape. This can be a cost savings to the customer. However, smetimes a new moulding is necessary. Wind noise is rarely due to a bad seal by the installer.
