I did the shaving cream last week(1-12-19), works amazingly well! Thanks brother, your videos are great for us regular folks living on a budget!👍👏😎 EDIT* I used regular old shaving cream not the gel kind. So both types work.
How is using an item that is more expensive than anti fog living on a budget? Walmart sells it by the gallon for just a few dollars, which is far cheaper than using shaving cream.
@@Lordwerwulf That tiny bottle of RainX interior fog treatment is most certainly not a gallon. You're confusing that with windshield washer fluid. It's also living on a budget because you're going to use that shaving cream for shaving, and use a little bit for your windows too. Buying one thing that has multiple uses instead of buying a specialized product that does only one thing saves money which is great when living on a budget.
@C W you hit the nail on the head. I keep telling my son money doesn't grow on trees. I bought anti fog from AutoZone for my inside windshield. Today I'm a put some on my driver's side door window. It's a spray bottle it works good.
Kinda sad the hand sanitizer didn't work, because that's the one thing of these I always have in my car :D Very informative video though, UA-cam only recommended it 7 years later, but still. Thank you! :)
I am not surprised that sanitizer didn't work. Its primarily Isopropyl Alcohol, so it does an excellent job of cleaning the glass, so there's nothing there to stop the fogging.
Great video! I drive Uber and whenever a passenger gets in the car it changes the temperature in the car and it always fogs, I think rain x is the best bang for your buck and effort. Great video!
@@reyariass yes it isn't. The rainX also tried. It lasted 10 seconds only before you need to apply it again. C'mon within 1 minute you need to apply 6 times.
To prevent moisture from fogging the glass, a lubricating agent is needed. This is also the common ingredient of the materials used. The hand sanitizer failed completely, because it contains some kind of alcohol, which is an excellent fat-dissolving agent. So instead of adding any oil, it removes it.
Super useful video, love the fact that you sectioned it off to show how well each one worked. I bought the first products. Ive used shaving foam in my bathroom mirror but it does take ages to buff away. I also got one of those moisture absorbing packs will see how the combo goes

Hey Chris, when I used to scuba dive, I used to use my spit in my mask and then rinse it out in the water and she stayed pretty clean all the time was diving. Thank you for your comments. I’ll try them on my windows probably the shaving cream thank you for the tips again.
Fun fact: Anti fog you can get at walmart is cheap. So just go get the stuff that is made to keep your glass from fogging. I got a big bottle for $4 and it lasts longer than all this stuff
Shaving cream appears to work well, but I would get frustrated with all of that extra buffing. I've used Rain-X for decades on my ski goggles and it lasts a long time, plus it's quick and easy to apply. Great video, though. Thank you for the experiment.
All to demonstrate why the product that was created to fix the problem is usually your best bet. 😀 No, everyone doesn't have shaving cream in their home. We sure don't. Never have. My husband has a beard. I've known him 42 years and he's always had a beard. Not a can of shaving cream in sight! 😂 However, we HAVE and DO buy products for our cars. Rain-x is one of them. I love Rain-x windshield cleaner, as well their windshield wiper fluid. Have not used the indoor defogger yet, but thanks to your video, I might have to now!😀
Basically the best thing that works is making your window hydrophobic, (which is what rainx does) shaving cream is also partly hydrophobic, which is why it works so well. You can buy hydrophobic sprays (mostly for clothing), which work way better then both shaving cream and rain x. It's also the same as what wax does on the outside of the car when you apply. It creates a barrier for water to repel. I have special windscreen wipers that apply that constantly and god does it make driving good.
Lets fight the disease, not the symptoms. Before doing this check and clean all the ventilation holes in your car. Car ventilation system is designed to move air from the front to rear, then exhaust it from rear holes in car body, exhaust holes are under rear bumper, so almost nobody checks and cleans them, also check air filters and replace it if needed, do it regularly, for example once a year or with every oil change. Some cars have two air filters - one inside and one outside the car, usually in area above windscreen, under plastic cover. Also A/C not only cools incoming air, it dries it, so it helps to get rid of moisture so use it.
VERY GOOOOD but I have my own tested tip: Use the car's air condition, heat or cool, to do the work for you, anytime you want. Point the air blowing to the glass you want and keep it open.
but if you want to not damage the AC you should use it after engine warms up. Before that time you could have premature AC problems. If I want to defog my windows fast and at the same time keep my car in good condition (parts damage), thats the way to go. Hope it helped :)
Maybe you’re unsafe driver. Did you pass driving test first time or after many tries. Please keep within the speed limits at most times and especially if there’s kids and single moms taking their loved ones to school. Thanks.
Try overlaying the glass with wood. Will stop the moisture getting to the glass. Even better, while not fogged up, take a photo out of each window. Print them out, glue them onto the wood. Because wood alone would look silly. If the photos fog up, add a second layer of wood.
In winter turning on Ac about 5 minutes before reaching your destination also helps. AC dries the air so there is no much humidity to fog your windows.
Thanks for this…love when folks do a real life comparison of products that are useful! My concern using any anti-fog recipe is streaking that might start to show when the sun hits the window…..guess I’ll steal hubby’s shave cream (gel??) and give it a flutter on my Frontier!
Another tip, if you're windows are fogged up, open your drivers side window an inch, after a few minutes of driving the windows should defog. Downside of course is you drive with fogged up windows for a little bit, so I'd only recommend if you live on a quiet street and can semi see through the fog.
What works well for me is to simply keep my interior as dry as possible in the winter. If you have access to a heated garage in the evening, ( or occasionally ) always leave a couple of windows down overnight, and dump snow or water out of floor mats. Constantly dry out the interior at any opportunity. When warming up the vehicle, keep a window near any occupant down a crack. Also try not to let snow into your air intake grill when parked outside...after you drive a bit with the heat on, and that moisture hits your warm heater coil, you got fog.
Just as an aside....I read some years back to keep a (felt) chalkboard eraser in your car for the times when your windows DO fog up, and have found it to be invaluable! I think it would be great to use in applying the RainX or the shaving cream, too. My Toyotas' windows clear really quickly when I turn on the compressor with the defroster, but I'm going to try the shaving cream trick, tho--and thanks!
I use shaving gel, but I'm going to my local lidl now to get a tin of shaving foam to try it on my car windscreen. Thanks for the video, really helpful.
I learned this in kindergarten. My teacher had a thing for shaving cream. We would do our math in shaving cream on our desk and wipe it up for a nice shine. Works great on your bathroom mirror!
Basically, if you have a clear substance on your windows that has hydrophobic regions, the water vapor (H2O) will not make 'hydrogen bonds' and therefore will not fog up the windows. Also the reason why the hand sanitizer (with an alcohol substance, hydroxyl -OH group) fogged up - because the water in the steam made hydrogen bonds with the alcohol. Science.
hey dude :D today i went to gass station to buy some antifog, and the girl there told about your video :D let me tell ya that 2 days ago i was here on this video but i desided to buy antifog anyway. Just let me tell ya that i come from a litlle country Slovenia and i was like what the ... , i am not the only one in Slovenia that comes to your channel full suprised. anyway nice work man i like your channel alot :) Grets from Slovenia
A simpler fix is to make sure your car's ventilation controls are set to bring fresh air into the car. In other words, turn OFF the recirc control. As the humid air comes through the system, it will be heated by your car's heating system, thereby dropping the relative humidity in it and eliminating fogged windows. It helps if the defrost setting is used to direct the warm air onto the glass. ALSO, if the windows do get fogged, TURN ON your AC. That also serves to drop the relative humidity in the air. Read your owner's manual and it will point this out to you. No special window treatments are needed!
@@DivineLightPaladin It's in winter when it works best! I'll bet the inside-air quality in your car is worse than the air that you are bringing in from outside. If it's not, then, well, you need to move because it's unhealthy to live where you do.
I've done all this except the ac, cause you can't turn on what you don't have, but my windows still fog up like crazy every winter. I'll try the shaving cream before my night shift tonight. Anything is better than what I currently have.
Great demonstration but what's wrong with using the car's ventilation system ? Set the flaps on the dashboard vents to direct warm air onto the windscreen and windows.
I tried it and it worked, been having this problem alot this month with the cold, and so far so good! You have to spend more time rubbing the s. cream into the glass so it doesnt show up, but it works.
+ChrisFix How many hours in advance can you do the top 2 fixes. Can I do it at 9pm at night and come outside at 7am and it work just like it did for you on your 30 minute test ?
Wow! Thank you so much for this video!! You put so much detail in time into this, greatly appreciated! I needed something done before winter arrives, I will definitely be trying this out today 😊
The obvious omission was how long each of shaving foam and rain X lasts. Given the active component of shaving foam in this context is basically glycerin, I’ll give you one guess. Hint: sunlight breaks down most chemicals. Also, shaving foam contains potassium hydroxide; I wonder what that might do to door rubber seals over time... (No I dont work for Rain X, but nor do I use dish washing detergent for washing car bodywork, coz, urm, I like it to continue to protect my car AND look good). There are cheap ways, and there are good ways.
Try a bead of shower gel on a slightly damp sponge. Just wipe it all over and allow it to dry. This works very well on shower room and bathroom windows. They do not steam up.
Look at me. Now back at your car. Now back at me. Now back at your car. Sadly, your car doesn't look like me. But if you switched to cleaning your windows with shaving cream, your car could smell like me. I'm on a road.
make sure to turn off you recirculation on ur AC so it pulls air from the outside. this does mean it will heat a little less effectively, but it will remove the moisture from the air in ur car, same thing from preventing the inside of your windows from frosting over with ice.
The first way to avoid fogging is to actually clean and decontaminate (from stuck in dirt & grime) the glass. Having dirt particles, or the off gassing residue from all the interior components, on the glass will make it fog waaaaay quicker. The moisture has something to cling to, so fog forms faster.
Thank you, this video was very helpful. I live in a rainy winter climate and my car does a terrible job of defogging the windows, especially the side windows that get more and more fogged up especially if there are a bunch of people in the car. I tried an experiment - I put shaving cream on half the windshield and the 2 windows on the driver's side of the car. The next few times I drove around, those 2 windows stayed fairly clear while passenger windows on the other side fogged up! Clearly it worked. However, the windshield was smudged and affected my night vision and I just couldn't rub in the shaving cream enough so I ended up having to windex it away. Today I put shaving cream on the other 2 passenger windows, having those 4 windows remain fog-free will be a relief. I hope I don't have to reapply often before winter ends.

Thank you so much for this video. I used the shaving cream and it works perfectly. I bought it for $1 and used microfiber cloths to apply and remove the shaving cream. I used it first on the windshield and all my windows except the windshield fogged up the next morning. I've since used it on the rest of my windows, including my bathroom mirror. EDIT* I used regular old shaving cream not the gel kind. So both types work.
For how many days it work ?
How is using an item that is more expensive than anti fog living on a budget? Walmart sells it by the gallon for just a few dollars, which is far cheaper than using shaving cream.
clayton stutler prob because 90 percent of what walmart sells for cheap ruins what it’s suppose to fix

I am not surprised that sanitizer didn't work. Its primarily Isopropyl Alcohol, so it does an excellent job of cleaning the glass, so there's nothing there to stop the fogging.

To prevent moisture from fogging the glass, a lubricating agent is needed. This is also the common ingredient of the materials used.
The hand sanitizer failed completely, because it contains some kind of alcohol, which is an excellent fat-dissolving agent. So instead of adding any oil, it removes it.
As water is soluble in alcohol, it just sticks to it. No wonders when you look at it from a chemist's perspective

No, everyone doesn't have shaving cream in their home. We sure don't. Never have. My husband has a beard. I've known him 42 years and he's always had a beard. Not a can of shaving cream in sight! 😂
However, we HAVE and DO buy products for our cars. Rain-x is one of them. I love Rain-x windshield cleaner, as well their windshield wiper fluid. Have not used the indoor defogger yet, but thanks to your video, I might have to now!😀
Make sure to use double-edged wipes for outstanding close clarity.
Thanks for sharing!

Winter is coming...
Me too like wtf is wrong with UA-cam lol
VERY GOOOOD but I have my own tested tip:
Use the car's air condition, heat or cool, to do the work for you, anytime you want.
Using shaving foam can be dangerous.I tried it once, went out on the road and within minutes had a close shave with another vehicle.
Good try grandpa, that was just your terrible driving skills.
Maybe you’re unsafe driver. Did you pass driving test first time or after many tries. Please keep within the speed limits at most times and especially if there’s kids and single moms taking their loved ones to school. Thanks.

I don't have shaving cream, I use electric shaver... Can I use electric shaver to prevent fogging?
hahahaa
😆👍👍
Yes but it's a different application method. Hit the window very hard with the shaver. You won't have to worry about fog in said window ever again.
Homme Des Cavernes wait, won't that scratch the window?
Not if your window has whiskers.
your video probably saved me, since i've been driving with mildly foggy glass for the past week. Love the shaving cream method👌
Glad the video could help!
Try overlaying the glass with wood. Will stop the moisture getting to the glass.
Even better, while not fogged up, take a photo out of each window. Print them out, glue them onto the wood. Because wood alone would look silly.
If the photos fog up, add a second layer of wood.
Ridiculous idea
Weight of the wood reduces handling and performance, use carbon fibre or aluminium instead
In winter turning on Ac about 5 minutes before reaching your destination also helps. AC dries the air so there is no much humidity to fog your windows.
Thanks for the tip!!!
Thanks for this…love when folks do a real life comparison of products that are useful! My concern using any anti-fog recipe is streaking that might start to show when the sun hits the window…..guess I’ll steal hubby’s shave cream (gel??) and give it a flutter on my Frontier!
UA-cam must’ve recommended me this video 9 years back
Thanks a lot for the best video
Another tip, if you're windows are fogged up, open your drivers side window an inch, after a few minutes of driving the windows should defog. Downside of course is you drive with fogged up windows for a little bit, so I'd only recommend if you live on a quiet street and can semi see through the fog.
Well, thats the best tip to become a murderer. thanks man. Very wise

Science.

No you are not the only one :D
Thats why he wanted the anti fog.
Wow. You must be a genius
How to do this in winter when you want to run heat and not pull in dirty coal rolling air? 😝
@@DivineLightPaladin It's in winter when it works best! I'll bet the inside-air quality in your car is worse than the air that you are bringing in from outside. If it's not, then, well, you need to move because it's unhealthy to live where you do.
Lmao recirc is what keeps my windows from fogging.
Nothing is wrong. You can do that if that works for you!

Thanks for sharing!
I found the BEST way. Simply uninstall windows in November for winter. Then re-install in April. No more foggy windows guaranteed *chefs kiss*

make sure to turn off you recirculation on ur AC so it pulls air from the outside. this does mean it will heat a little less effectively, but it will remove the moisture from the air in ur car, same thing from preventing the inside of your windows from frosting over with ice.
The first way to avoid fogging is to actually clean and decontaminate (from stuck in dirt & grime) the glass. Having dirt particles, or the off gassing residue from all the interior components, on the glass will make it fog waaaaay quicker. The moisture has something to cling to, so fog forms faster.
You are so right. I did this and it really makes a difference. Significantly less fog
