Navigable water way is a place for jet boats , and that’s what the vedder is

Speaking as a person who fishes the Vedder on a regular basis, I think it is completely irresponsible to take such boats up such an environmentally sensitive river. These boats sometimes come up right in the middle of spawning season. In my opinion they should be charged and heavily fined! This is a stupid idea!

It’s a man made river. And speaking as a person who jet boats and fishes the Vedder on a regular basis I think it’s completely arrogant to think you should charge someone for enjoying the outdoors in a way you don’t think is right. I know I’ve seen a lot of fisherman snagging and keeping wild fish aswell as fishing and killing spawned out fish during spawning season. Doesn’t mean we shut down fishing. Everyone needs to quit trying to shut down outdoor activities that they don’t like and come together as an outdoor enthusiast community and stand up for our rights to do all of these things outside that we love to do whether you agree with it or not. Cause once you take away one thing they all get taken away. Also, offer is open anytime to take someone on my jet boat up the Vedder, I guarantee your opinion will change.

@@jetboatingbc6192 what part of the river is manmade? There are lots ofnaviganle waters restricted to powerboatsYour attitude gives legitimate boaters a bad name. Disturbing spawning grounds is illegal and the whole riverbed upstream from highway 1 is used by salmon.

@@mtnphot The whole Vedder river system is a man made system starting in 1882 and finished in 1922 to divert the drainage of chilliwack lake and make sumas/chilliwack a habitable piece of land.
Navigable water ways are not restricted, they are a public waterway where we have the right to navigate the water in a power boat as if it was a highway.
There are speed restrictions where the government and natural resource officials fee the need to slow powerboats in a fragile system.
The only one with a bad attitude in here is you. I know all about salmon using the river to spawn. I worked for freshwater fisheries for 8 years and have been fishing it and almost every other water body in the province for my whole life. I believe that jet boats have an extremely low impact on spawning salmon and salmon stocks in general when compared to all other activities including but not limited to commercial fishing , logging, First Nations gill netting , new construction on river banks, and fishermen wading across salmon reds during steelhead season.
I’m completely open to discussing speed restrictions on parts but I believe they would be thrown out immediately due to the lack of authenticity behind them. Just cause a group of anglers and residents that like to play in the water feel like they don’t like jet boats doesn’t mean we just ban them and charge everyone for using their right to drive them freely.

@@jetboatingbc6192 heavy rains and a log jam caused the chilliwack river to divert into vedder creek and luckackuck creek in 1875. In 1882 the river diverted into vedder creek which then was called the vedder river, exactly the same way the chehalis river has been diverted. It then flowed into sumas lake. The only msnmade part is the canal.whish has become naturalized river bed during the 70's flood events.
On december1 Transport canada prohibited boating on all lower mainland rivers including the chilliwack/vedder. So these guys were running a closed river. More ammunition for the cityof Chilliwack to get restrictions placed on the river and canal.

@@mtnphot Not true, essential travel only was put in place on flooded areas in the lower mainland on Nov 20 to give search and rescue teams more space to navigate. Nothing was prohibited or is prohibited. If every river in the lower mainland was prohibited to boating right now every fishing guide would be out of business on the Fraser. And the Vedder was diverted by MAN MADE log jams.
