What I like best about the way you treat vehicles is you don't "butcher" them. People that make drastic changes from the way a vehicle was originally are only one step away from totally destroying it. I also like that you don't subject me to obnoxious background music the way some sites do. You both present yourselves with dignity and cheerfulness. As I've said before, you make a great couple.
Thank you for the nice comment. We really appreciate the feedback.
I agree, If someone is gonna change a car, they have to really take the car and its era into consideration. Done correctly, you might think it came that way with options from factory.
I'm very pleased to find a channel that's down to earth and really about the love for automobiles that we all share and showing what we too could have someday. Especially without that obnoxious background music, lol!!
Amazing the geo metro has over 200k miles. Somebody took care of it. Most metro’s were shot at 50k. They were considered disposable cars by Gm. Love videos keep them coming.
Legend says it that you can get these to do 90mph, that's if your going down a cliff and there's a 60 mph gust of wind pushing you from behind.
I'm so glad you are appreciating what this car is and not going to butcher it up. There are a ton of people that would love to have a small car that gets 50+ mpg. Those cars are getting as rare as hen's teeth and i'm glad to know this channel respects that and wants to put it back in service. Great job!!
Thanks very much. This car is just too unique to destroy. Now it will last a good while longer.
@@whattherust I was hoping you were going to sell it to someone who's really into those cars. They would cherish it and give a good home rather than trash it.
@@klwthe3rd I hope so as well.
@@whattherust sport up the metro add a turbo
I'm a fan of the stripes because, if nothing else they will distract they eye from the paint defects. You could paint the tops of the bumpers black to cover the damaged blue paint. Overall this came out great and thanks for plugging my channel.
Good idea!
My son had one that had a broken window in the hatch. The bone yard wanted 40 dollars for one and it would have cost another 50 to install it.
They told him if he didn't care about the color he could have the whole hatch for 45. He for a year drove a red car with a blue hatch!LOL
Power tour in a 3 cylinder, Christin has good instincts.
Thats what we call a Beater with a Heater. Makes a great winter car.
My mom had a Geo Metro she loved that car it never gave her any problems.
I drove my 215k mile Mitsubishi to buy one of these. Money in hand, I took it for a spin. The motor felt out of balance…I couldn’t wait to run away in my (extremely balanced) high mileage 2.4L 4 banger Mitsubishi…Could not believe the difference. Cool find, great video. Thanks guys.
Good Job Richard for bringing back this little guy it's so deserving it has been a great reliable car and I think Geo should have been able to grow.
Thanks Robert. It is a neat little car. I am not sure why these did not catch on, perhaps just too basic for the US car buyer?
Great job Richard with help from Christina on the Metro. The original ad from than was funny. What you did reminds me of almost 20 years ago when I had an '86 red Dodge Colt (4-Speed) that I used as my commuter car ( 75 miles round trip to & from work). I bought NOS, 2 front fenders, 2 complete front turn signal assemblies. I primed & rattle spray painted the 2 fenders. They came out pretty good! It was a fun car to drive!
My favorite What The Rust episode! Well done. I really enjoyed the sarcasm of adding the additional horsepower!
Thanks very much, Rob. We had fun with this one. It is good material for sarcasm!
There is no other car I have driven that one can floor after every shift and not go to jail. They are so fun to drive.
Right on, Scott.
I’m going to say that this was a great buy! The price of gas these last 4 years… great buy! Wish I had it!
Perfect for Pizza delivery in the city. All you need is the Domino's light.
That's just a neat little car and you've brought it a long way from what it was. Good job!
Thanks Richard. I am very happy with it now.
It's an XFI, a rare and desirable model. It's the mileage king, taller 5th gear, special cam, two rings instead of three, etc.
XFI is my favorite model. By the way it only came in two colors, white and blue. A/C, automatic transmission were not available. Only ten percent of all Geo Metros were XFI. They are very sought after.
you must live a very secluded life
Sorry Christina, im on Richards team on this one. This car is getting kinda cool at this point😂 55:00
Mr. B. Here ! ☕️👀😎👍. Richard nice job for on the little rat rod ! 👀😎👍
Thanks Mr. B! This one was a lot of fun.
G.M. had a model that had a turbo charger. Quite a little beast.
Hahaha, auctions could hold bottom dollar gems
Nice Job! Nice to see that a person can pick up a car for a few bucks and for a few bucks more you can make it nice-ish and something decent to drive around!
I like the car the way you put the strip on it it looks Kool
When I worked for the Goodyear Proving Grounds back in the 90's we had one of these little Geo's and you could not kill it. Ours had over 130,000 hard miles on it and I don't think I ever once used the clutch to change gears. They also put a set of the spare donut tires on it and put 40,000 mils on the little tires. The grounds had a 8 mile road course for tire testing and I had more fun with that Geo running that course.
That is a cool story! Stories like this are why these cars have such a large following.
And shoot yeah id be all in on taking that car to power tour❤😎👍
That would be a great car to improve your auto painting skills on. A little “Ford blue” tractor paint would make it look amazing!
I had a Ford Fiesta and it was one of the most fun cars I’ve ever driven and I’m a full size truck owner. These small cars are great for around town where parking can be an ordeal. I’d keep it just as a grocery getter. Thanks for entertaining us.👍👍🇨🇦
Great job, Richard, and a smart purchase. Hemmings predicts that the Geo Metro will climb in value as a collector car. They referenced the history Richard had earlier talked about, when the Metro became a hot property during a big jump in gasoline prices. Car & Driver had done a comparison test between the Metro and a Toyota Prius, and the Metro bested the Prius in fuel economy. The Metro also gets points for being very simple and easy to maintain.
Steering wheel looks wonderful
I think there is a Yello Geo convertible up here in Canada still running around, neat little car!
Make it into a Gambler 500 car ! I would add wheel covers. Looks like someone put new pedal pads on it too , hardly any wear on them ! Over all it turned out great !
Those air bubbles in the stickers where not so bad, considering the length of them, placing those is tricky at best.
Richard wonderful work on the Metro. It sure looks like a great first car for a teenager. Or a parent that needs to save some money on fuel. Only thing different I may had done is take the strip over the roof. But, it looks fine the way it is. Thank you and Christina for sharing.
💯👍👏
That's right Terry. Someone is going to get a lot of use out of this car and save a bunch of money doing it. Thanks for the support!
Geo Metro was a pretty good car. We owned one back in the 90’s and used it for a shop car in our truck repair shop. Don’t know why the window trim rusted but most all did. The one you have will clean up and make someone a decent ride. 👍
Little blue is looking good. Racing 😢
A guy I knew had one just like that one and he loved it, thank you for sharing.
You're welcome Dan.
If you decide to sell it, I would be interested. I've been looking for a decent commuter car for work. This would certainly fit the bill. Keep saving the old iron!!
Hi Richard !! Just finished watching your Metro revival video , Sir , you have so much more patience than I ,reworking something like that ! But you know , it would make someone thats economy minded a Great little car ! Sorry to hear that you have had issues with your truck....tell ya what , Id swap you a 1963 Fairlane 500 2dr. All done up in a Thunderbolt scheme...love your truck , and videos !!
That is a tempting trade, but I have so much money into that truck now I need to hold onto it.
Yo. Vinnie from the BRONX still lookin good pizon..Carmine and big A;l said hellow.
Too funny! Mass though, not NY.
I had a 2001 metro with the 4 cylinder. Great car. I put racing numbers on mine instead of the racing stripes. And yes, that geo deserves to flex with the big boys !
Enjoying your videos.
you still live with mom?
What a cool little car. Would be a great daily driver.
That car ROCKS! full restore with some new alloy wheels and big tires!
Awesome car for the price my friend had a red brand new one it was a 92 to 95 it didn't even come with a stereo she had one put in. One of my sisters was driving it and had it on 2 wheels with me and our friends son. A manual at that tooo
Nice job, great tips on sanding and buffing! Thanking you both for a great channel.
You're welcome Roger. Thanks for watching.
Hey guys this was really a lot of fun,I enjoyed the rude
You did a great job with the stripes. I've been decaling my cars for 30 years. Yes, you can add water for larger decals with just a hint of soap. Then you squeegee out everything so there's no bubbles. But as a first timer, you did good. Smaller decals I don't use water and soap, larger ones that are several square feet then I do. And you also had the right idea on how to pop them. You can either use a needle or a razor blade tip, the squeeze out the bubble.
Thanks for the tip!
I had a TC3 I think it was that is very much like that car. Over 40 mpg and served me well and saved me money driving it.
Rims and tires looking good
That was fun to watch.
Richard, get a machine shop to tap larger holes in the case and put the larger size bolts in it. The cow is out of the barn
Turned out good for sure., you should try it wth 15 car battery's laying around you .😊 Talk about under powered.
had one early in my marriage loaded the 2 boys all our camping gear the dog and my wife and i got 50 miles to the gallon. basically pegged it all the way. automatic with A/C
Nice! Not too many people can say they have done that.
I think the metro looks absolutely Smurflety .
Excellent video Christina :) , Richard :) also super work on Blue GEO car and like Stripes too and pretty it up plus paint job together too!
Way to go Richard that was hard work for sure but you made a big difference in the car it looks a lot better and it's much cleaner and what a gas saver great job
Thanks Dale!
At 50 mpg i wouldn't complain it will make a good little car.
Those Vehicles accomplished the goal. Small, great gas mileage, easy to park in the cities, an economical grocery getter, and super easy to maintain. No it didn't go much above 70 miles an hour,( with tail wind) but it didn't need to. I see no reason why somebody who needs cheap economical basic transportation won't grab that car quickly if you put it up for sale tomorrow. I think the stripes look pretty cool!
Well done you two.
You did a great job on her richard great on fuel
I stick the air bubbles with a pin! I find and that it makes them easier to flatten, Richard! Thanks for sharing guys, Kirk from Louisiana sending prayers and positive thoughts to you and your families! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋🏼✌🏻✌🏻
Thank you Kirk!
I love the metro .
You two are brilliant!
Thanks Stephen. Much appreciated.
Diamond brand is a good brand. Probably the best in adjustable wrenches. In business a long time.
Use a straight pin to pop the air bubble.
Just alittle love and it looks better is did before
use a pin to pop the air bubbles in the stripe
Nice job you two are doing.Just keep it up!
Thanks!
My friend owned one of these back in the nineties. These were great cars for the money. I like what you did with it. Hope it finds a home.
Perfect candidate for a two tone paint job with tractor paint or a coating of "shine juice" to preserve the patina. Cool little car.
Interesting video from you two! Cheers! I like that old truck at the end of the video!😀👍🔧
Thanks Billy. A video on that truck will be released soon.
Richard I've put many a decal on all types of cars the best way is spray with soapy water first let dry about 20 minutes then pull the backing close to vehicle not away from decal good luck
With the runaway inflation and higher gas prices this would be a great economical option for someone.
but will you drive it?
Agreed. Now that we live in the country, everything if further away. This car will save us a lot in gas.
Soapy water allows you to position the decal and help squeeze out the air bubbles
That Diamond adjustable wrench can be cleaned up and used. You can find them at tool shows and flea markets for about $5-$15 depending on age and condition. I have one that I disassembled and powder coated. Not terrible tools and certainly not great, but useful. That car would be a good candidate for an Earl Scheib paint job, if any of them still existed!
I'll clean up that wrench and add it to my toolbox. Thanks for the info.
From what I remember the Geo Metro Lxi got like 54 mpg .
I remember that Geo commercial 😅 Cool memories! They were VERY fuel efficient to be sure. It's strange that today everybody talks fuel efficiency but the car makers arent making these types of cars anymore. They could meet the standards and wouldn't have to cut so many models. Great job on the Metro, Richard and Christina!! Thanks for sharing! It looks great!!
I came home from work and a free Geo Metro was parked in my driveway.
I called the police to report illegal dumping.
Funny stuff. These cars are different for sure.
small bubbles hard to get - poke it with a small pin and press toward the hole.
My nephew had the Chevy Sprint version with a 70 hp turbo that he bought new. He liked it, but he didn't keep vehicles more than a couple of years.
Rich, your sense of humor had me rolling on the floor!!! Laughing like a loon! Thanks man! Killer!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!!
Thanks for the feedback Andrew! Glad you liked it. More humor coming.
Heres a trick, use a sharp pin and prick the middle of the bubbles then squeegee them away!--God Bless Youall!
I would proudly drive that little car. You did a great giving some life back to it.
I used to drive a 1.3L Suzuki Swift (that's how this car was branded in europe) in Grece for 150.000 km (almost 94.000 miles) without having ANY trouble at all. I bought it new in July 1992, I used to change the engine oil every 5.000 km and except keeping the manufacturer's service schedule I didn't need even to screw a loose bolt! The only "unexpected" problem was a stuck engine thermostat (after 90.000 km) that didn't let the engine warm up to the normal temperature. It was very fun to drive, very fast for it's engine specifications and had extremely good fuel consumption even if you had a strong foot on the gas pedal!
Good to hear you had a good one. They are neat little cars.
Geo Metros are awesome. My cousin had one and he basically used it as a luxury go cart 😂 he went through clutches like crazy though
Right on!
Sweet puddle jumper . They were in every parking lot ,funny how cars slowly fade away.
Right, it is hard to believe how old these cars are now.
I have a cassette recorder that uses those old cassette tapes
I can bring them over the next time I see you :)
Back in my sisters high school days, she had this same Geo and I remember she drove it forever and she loved the gas mileage and this car always started and ran and never failed her.Thank you for touching a car that that no one else would as it deserves it. She was safe with this car my dad thought. Great video!! Thanks!!!!!
That is a nice comment. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Id be smiling to own that car and take care of it and show it off❤ always liked the chevy geos
When I was working at Napa they bought a new Geo metro 3 banger with automatic transmission, it was my delivery vehicle believe it or not we removed the passenger seat and removed the back part of the rear seat so I could haul exhaust pipes and whatnot I used to carry 10 or twelve car batteries at a time we had several garages that stocked napa batteries not sure but I believe it got some where around 32 mpg that was all in town driving this was in 1991 or so.
These truly are great lil cars! My neighbor had one just like it! We have you beat on small engines though with our 1959 AutoBianchi Bianchina Trasformibile....Its a 2 Cylinder 3 speed.....Gotta love the quirky lil cars..... Enjoy your vids always, Keep up the great work!
Thanks very much. We appreciate your support.
A second channel!? So that means more content from you guys, that is some great news to hear. I hope you guys are doing alright and keep up the amazing content❤
Thanks, we are good! Yes, the second channel provides us a space for more variety of content that doesn't quite fit in with our "rescues" theme here.
Richard put that adjustable wrench in a pan with some Evapo-Rust and it will almost look as good as new
This small kid looks now a whole lot better! If you will not keep it to yourself, you can easily use it as a swap offer for something else more interesting you like.
So true. Sell or swap.
I think the car looks really nice it turned out really really nice
Black restored bumpers looking great!
That engine is smaller then my mom's old Singer sewing machine!!!
You're one lucky couple to have each other
True. We are blessed.
Spray soapy water on the graphics and car that is how to get air bubbles out
On a car with an older finish that is “faded” so to speak, or thinned , I always used linseed oil. That in my opinion, would have been a perfect fit for this car..
The Geo would be a good starter car for a college student! Thanks for saving it! Great job!
