A suggestion: pour some oil into the filter before you install it. Not so much there's oil on the floor before you get it snug on the engine, but enough to get oil pressure before a dry filter fills up.
Great trick with the 5mm and 6mm allen key to check belt tension. Thanks for that. When you said full DESMO, I thought you were going to do valves. :D That's what I came here for but good to learn that allen key trick.
Good video, just few notes if I may: - I would lock the valve pulleys with the appropriate tool before removing the belts - I would measure the chain tension with bike on side stand as per manual. - 15w50 oil is a better option for these engines, less strain on gears.
Tips, pre set the belts then just rotate a few times to bed in and recheck. Next, you set the chain whilst on the stand, this doesn’t allow for for sag and travel. Do it on the side stand and set slightly slacker than you’d think, makes getting neutral easier.
Thanks for simply demystifying the process. I just trades for a 2015 in the same boat. It had the belts and valves done at 10k miles but it's been sitting for four years with no use, so I want to put fresh belts on it just to cover myself.
Great video man. Always wanted a ducati scrambler but was intimidated by timing belt and fear of tough maintenance but this doesn't look too difficult actually as for the timing belts and oil change.
Looks like maintaining it is straight forward. I don't know much about Ducati motorcycles. I wondered what those belts were for. I have a Yamaha 1100 V Star. Changing the oil filter on that bike requires the removal of the front exhaust pipe and muffler. The only thing I don't like about my bike. I use Amsoil 10w40. I'm getting older and don't put many miles on it like I used to. I wish you nothing but safe travels on your bike.

sparks plugs don't need replacement at 2000 ml, your airfilter is like new, but ok, it's not expensive. on a bike, brake fluid need replacement each year.
Just arrived on your channel, super cool! I have a Scrambler 1100 2018 and also like to do the services on my own, at home. Do you know how to reset the maintenance miles counter?
Hey so I’m having a little trouble we’re my bike isn’t going into nutral , could you give me some pointers or tell me where to look for answers of what I can try , it’s a new Ducati scrambler nightshirt with 800 miles
I had the same issue with my nightshift. The clutch lever can be adjusted. I had it adjusted so that I could no longer pull the lever far enough and therefore no longer came into neutral. So simply turn the cog on the lever.
Did you use a camshaft locking tool ?? I have read you can cause serious damage if they shift and you do not have the belts lined up correctly ? Thanks
Can you be more specific about the use of the 5&6mm Allen key to check tension and where u where using them..also is there a way to switch off the Desmo service indicator
They don’t recommend doing it that way anymore that I know of, recommended to tune the belt to a frequency when you pluck it like a guitar. Models vary but 140-145hz. Just get a tuner app to check.
The sticker by the oil plug says "Shell"..........but it was filled with Motul. I'm sure it will be alright but Ducati put that sticker there for a reason....
and this was every 2 year no matter the millage....i think they change it to every 5 now.....$$$$ just to sell part.... maybe the ducati brand belt is garbage quality and ducati dont trust them
Probably nothing. In my opinion Ducati does a good job of scaring people into having unnecessary and extremely expensive maintenance done to their bikes.
@@Jerod_Helt I recently bought 2017 Scrambler Icon in Thailand with total run about 1200 km. The seller told me to change oil at 3000km. A few days ago I visited official service and asked them about oil change. They offerd me a service for about 500$, which includes: annual service(35$), SMARTservice 30000km-01(278$), drive tooth belt (122$), filter air (25$), brake and engine liquid (32$). There is also a list of materials: oil shell 15W-50, oil filter, oil gasket (1), open shim valve (4), close shim valve (4), c-ring (8). The bike is really like new (though it's 2017 year model). I usually drive 60-80 kmph, and I never drive faster than 90 kmph What kind of service is really reasonable to do now when the total run is 3000 kilometers? Will appreciate any advice very much, that's my first motorcycle and I don't know much about them:(
I don't have enough experience with these bikes to say what the maintenance requirements should be, but there is a lot of information from experienced people online if you do some research. I feel like they charge very high prices for very basic maintenance and they have convinced people that "special" tools are required to do these basic tasks. This scares people into paying the high prices rather than doing the work themselves, or going to a cheaper mechanic. They also make it impossible for anyone but a dealer to clear the maintenance light on the dash, so even if you do the work yourself you still have that stupid light on.

Hi, I love Ducati, in '92 I had a Ducati pass 750, greetings from Rubí, Barcelona

Some air cooled biked call for the spark plugs to be changed every two years
Hola!!! por que 10w 40 y no 15w 50 que es lo que recomienda Ducati???
It depends on your climate. I used what was recommended for my area

Try adjusting / replacing your clutch.
Am at less then 500kms and haven't done 1st service. But yes getting neutral is an issue and even quick down shifting.

you change it every 2 year or 5?
Hey, thanks for the video! Which mirrors you have mounted?
I’m pretty sure they’re stock mirrors. They came on the bike
Great video! What is the make of the rear fender extension, or is that original equipment for that model and year?
It’s original
I‘m more into classic BMWs, but wow that Duc is a beauty! 👍🏻 Oh, btw: where is Walter…?!
What kind of helmet are you wearing?
Is this all that is done in a desmo service? With the right tool can I do it myself?
I don’t remember everything in the desmo service… I sold this bike a few years ago.
How do you remove the service sign on the panel ?? Seems easy enough to do a service for sure.
Unfortunately only the dealer can remove the service light
@@Jerod_Helt OK great. Thank you for the reply. My ocd kicks in when that's on even though the service is done haha.
Have you figured out how to get rid of the oil light? Does the desmo notification on the dash go away when I do this. I have to do mine
Only the dealer can reset the notifications and oil light
Curious, did you bike come with the timing marks or did you make them?
I sold the bike a few years ago… but I believe the marks were already there
@@Jerod_Helt Okay thanks for letting me know.
Nice job!
No Walter cameo ?
Es la 400 cc ?
I had no idea the belts were so easy! BTW my desert sled use's 15W50, why 10W40?
15w50 is much better for these engines.
What about the valve clearances?
They didn’t need to be done on this bike yet
Nice!
no music, great info', sub'd.
The sticker by the oil plug says "Shell"..........but it was filled with Motul. I'm sure it will be alright but Ducati put that sticker there for a reason....
They probably get kickbacks from Shell😃
bike still going or?
I sold it a while back
How much Nm torque for the belt tensor ?
27.12 nm
👍👍✌️
I don't know what it would be called in the US, sorry.
New belts at 7000 miles and a car will do 60,000 miles on a belt. Something seriously wrong .
It's actually 15,000 miles. Think about the revs of a bike compared to car?
it's a ducati
According to the User Manual, the change of belts is at 12000 miles
and this was every 2 year no matter the millage....i think they change it to every 5 now.....$$$$ just to sell part.... maybe the ducati brand belt is garbage quality and ducati dont trust them
What are the consequences of not changing timing belts?
Probably nothing. In my opinion Ducati does a good job of scaring people into having unnecessary and extremely expensive maintenance done to their bikes.
