Welcome to GDL. I came to visit 3 years ago and haven’t left. After staying in Americana and Providencia, I chose to buy a place in Valle Real, which is in Zapopan. If you decide to stay I think that eventually you will want a car. If I had one suggestion it would be to try to live above the 9th or 10th floor, not only for the incredible city views but to greatly reduce the flying insects (dengue fever area), I leave my patio sliding door partially open (for my dog) 24/7 and never ever have an issue with mosquitos. I think I heard you briefly mention pizza.....in my experience this area is not great for pizza, they just can’t make good crust. Shockingly, my favorite, and I’ve tried many is.....Little Caesar’s, I kid you not. Thanks for your comment! We actually checked out Valle Real, really love the area - we love Zapopan. Having a great view is high on our list for an apartment as well. Once we saw the topography, we were hooked! We were in Merida for a year also and understand the battle against mosquitos quite well. And the weather is definitely a big draw for us. You're absolutely right with the best pizza comment, the best truly is little caesars in here, I've heard people in the U.S. consider little caesars a not so good pizza when put against dominos or other chains? Maybe the ingredients or preparation is different here? Cause dominos and all other chains simply don't match to little caesars in flavor and taste here, they're really amazing, and cheap too!

And you won’t be disappointed! I suggest you to go to “hospicio cabañas”, and while you are there, visit the historic centre, (don’t be afraid of trying street food, it’s super safe, but be sure to wash your hands first) go to Tlaquepaque and hang around there for a while, again, try food you’ll see there, go to museums, there are tons of beautiful ones!, and for another day, I’ll highly suggest you to go to “Andares mall”, trust me, it won’t disappoint you!. And if you like nature, don’t hesitate visiting the biggest park on the planet, “Bosque de la primavera”
All folks north of the border who are without appreciation of the historical wealth of culture among Mexican folks should be sent to Guadalajara. There is so much beauty and diversity that collides in that city to spark even the coolest of appreciative attitudes. Sweet.
If you have a chance, visit Tonala, you'll see some of the most amazing crafts. Spend a few hours there, eat, walk, and enjoy. Many public buses take you there and that's usually their final destination. Tonala is a small city (or big town?) near Guadalajara. It's insane! If you go there, arrive early as it gets packed. The open market or swap meet takes place Sundays and Thursdays from about 8-5. Also, try the birria, a meat kind of soup and (hopefully) served with hand-made tortillas. Enjoy your new temporary home, and WELCOME!
I love Mexico and I use to have a house in Tlestan, Zapopan , Guadalajara. I miss my beautiful city, the wonderful people, and the good life there. Enjoy Guadalajara! Congrats !
Great video and great couple here. I been to mio amor city Guadalajara many, many times everything great there around. Whe we are talking music, so when you sit down at any place and those mariachi people come around ask them to play Juan Gabriel song's like Amor eterno, costumbre and even Asi fue wow, you guys will melt. Juan Gabriel was like another Elvis in the Latina world wow, what a man. I was in Guadalajara then that day when we all heard that he died back in August of 2016. I right away went and had a shirt made in memory of him. After that day when I always went to Mexico I put it on so when the people saw me in the plane everybody clapped. Rest in peace mio man Juanka and thank you for your time and life you shared with us. TCB from Finland.

Guadalajara Jalisco Mx. is the BEST place to live. There is SO much to do and the weather and the short distance of things reminds me of southern California (expect for the occasional rain). I lived there for 3 years 💝 LOVE IT
Go to my homestate Oaxaca you guys will fall in love with the city right away, I migth will invite you guys to my tiny town of Santa Ana del Valle 30 minutes drive from Oaxaca city.
It’s so cool to see a couple do something like this instead of the more traditional route of trying to impress everyone with cars and things they can’t afford. To many of those couples end up stressed and not in a good place. Contrast that to the lifestyle y’all are doing and…..well the smiles say it all. Such a cool way to enjoy each other. Also in this situation you both become more dependent on one another and working as a team. That alone will make your love deeper and stronger. Wow I really dig what you guys are doing. So cool!

Mr. Puertas, how is Guadalajara for kids? I am a recent widow, my late husband Tomas died of Corona virus here in USA. Our four kids dont speak Spanish even though we both native speakers. Do you know if they have schools where they teach in English? I want them to understand the language and my husband's culture because my husband was Mexican. Thank you. Gracias por cualquier información

@@Tomas-ql9yo Hi, and sorry for you loss, Certainly there are bilingual (private) schools so children can adapt to spanish. and kids adapt fast!, however, most schools are taking classes online, as there aren't any schools open, with an uncertain future. public schools teach spanish only classes, so it has to be a private school; tuition fees, per kid, may range from 3,000 to 8,000 Pesos monthly. As for the city environment, it is a big (huge) city with it's ups and downs. But I guess it leans more to the good side.

Welcome to Guadalajara I have been here for 5 years and emergently from Seattle Washington just a word of advice if you don't have a vehicle I would not recommend Levine in the outskirts I lived in the outskirts for a little while and I did not enjoy it because mainly I would have to pay for an Uber or taxi to basically go anywhere I needed to go which ended up kind of getting expensive so I would suggest maybe living in a more Central Area if you're not going to have a vehicle you can take the bus but that can end up taking a lot longer and it's not very comfortable either a lot of times you don't get a place to sit and if it's in the summertime it gets very very hot on the bus
@Shalea Vanderwaal (or @Sergio Rios) I would love to hear more since you have lived in Guadalajara for five years. Did it become more dangerous in 2016/2017? What are some things one can do to be more safe? Don't go out at night. Go with someone else if possible. Look to see if someone is watching before using an ATM. Don't use a phone in public Thanks in advance for any advice you have :)
@@LoveFinds I don't travel alone in the city I've always gone with other people I personally would feel safe if I went by myself but my husband doesn't really like me going alone since we do not want a vehicle I have to take the bus

I'm moving to Mexico in 2021, Now that my online company is taking off. I'm sooooo excited!!!! I'm over the U.S!!!! It's not a place for African Americans to thrive Period with police brutality, and being treated less than human, in being targeted. I'm beyond sick of it. I suggest African Americans expand their horizons to different possibilities. Awesome Channel New sub.
Been living here for 8 years now, no regrets at all! You’ll might enjoy going to Bosque de la Primavera or Ixcatan which are near Guadalajara. There are cool museums in the hearth of the city at Downtown area and some cool restaurants at Colonia Moderna. If you want to try some killer tacos head at Taco Fish La Paz, or La Choza near Chapultepec street.
Pastor is good! Try Barbacoa and birrilla if you want to try alternative meats (mutton and goat, respectively). I’m also a big fan of lengua (tongue) and meat from la cabeza of the vaca. Costilla is rib meat. It tastes slightly stronger than your typical carne asada. And if you’re daring, keep your eyes open for tacos de sesos (sweetbreads). I bet you can find some really great mariscos in GDL, seeing that it’s closer to the ocean than where I am. Also, find your carnitas place. If you want whole ribs, ask for huesos enteros (and watch to make sure they don’t cut it up). Surtido is the pork mixed with fat, lomo is pure meat. Order a hueso if you want a big pig drumstick. I really liked the tip about watching for which taquerias and stands have crowds of clients. I learned that rule on the streets of L.A., and it’s served me pretty well in Mexico.
I am very interested in visiting and possibly moving to Guadalajara. I am a mountains, lakes, and cool weather type of guy. Good to see my fellow Black people living it up in Mexico. You both are amazing. Thanks for the informative videos!
Can you guys do a video on how the Taxes work when you are working online? Do you have to pay SS taxes like in the US? Want to be able to work online but not have to lose all my pay on paying taxes. You guys are continuing to inspire me to come and take the leap. Being a mature single woman and so ready to get out of the rat race!
We understand...the matrix is mind numbing. Let's see when you work online you are your own business a d you still have to pay taxes. You pay them quarterly. You get a 1099 during tax season and file your taxes accordingly (like a small business).
This was an amazing overview of your Guadalajara experience. At one point I thought I would land in Puerto Vallarta, but Guadalajara and the outskirts towns such as Chapala and Ajijic stole my heart. I'll have to check out the towns you've mentioned as well because my move date is coming up at the end of the summer. Thanks again for your willingness to share this valuable information.
Love the attitude! Love the open mind to try new things! It is people like you who enjoy life the most :). Keep it up! Trivia: People from Guadalajara are called Tapatíos (comes from the native language Nahuatl).
So happy that you are out of the Yucatan, but I'm hopeful those folks will be OK with Hurricane Delta on fast approach. Looking forward to your reports from Guadalajara! All the best to you and your former home!
My son slept threw the hurricane in Cancun. His video shows the storm took down all the dead foliage which is good. His hotel didn’t even lose electricity.
The Yarbros its so weird that my son has been to Mexico only a few times and this is his second Mexico hurricane that he has slept threw. In 2014 I was texting him during his first hurricane and suddenly he stopped texting. It was a tough time because I was sleeping next to my daughter’s hospital bed while my son was in Mexico during a hurricane. I found out the next morning my son stopped texting cuz he fell asleep. Lol yes that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Luckily both my kids are fine.

We are in Merida Yucatan Mexico and LOVE it but in Guadalajara right now
All folks north of the border who are without appreciation of the historical wealth of culture among Mexican folks should be sent to Guadalajara. There is so much beauty and diversity that collides in that city to spark even the coolest of appreciative attitudes. Sweet.
It funny how when ppl love each other, they start looking alike😃
Welcome to Guadalajara Guys, I've been living here for 30 yrs, Welcome to the Hood!
Thanks for the reception!
We've heard about it from our Airbnb host and are planning
a trip as soon as we find a home! Thank you....keep the tips coming!
I love Mexico and I use to have a house in Tlestan, Zapopan , Guadalajara. I miss my beautiful city, the wonderful people, and the good life there. Enjoy Guadalajara! Congrats !
Thank you! It is truly a beautiful city!
Good.
Welcome to our beautiful México, have fun and enjoy!. I'm Mexican living in the US, it requires a lot of bravery going to a different country, with a different language and traditions, but it's also super enriching and mind-opening experience.
I am glad that you can relate. Achieving understanding and growing is what travel is to us. Thanks for watching our channel!
I’m soooo glad I can follow you guys and show my husband your videos.
I was born and raised in Guadalajara, I moved to San Diego years ago, my husband is Sandiegan and he is a little afraid to visit, first because he doesn’t speak Spanish and second because he thinks it is dangerous. I hope that by watching your videos he can see things differently.
Thank sooo much for what you do!!!!
We hope to be a good voice and resource too you. Also, your hometown is beautiful and the people are very kind!
I actually spent some time in Guatemala and hated it when it was time for us to leave. I loved the culture and the people there were so humble..
We are loving the kindness and accepting nature of the people. This is a chill place.
U mean Guadalajara or Guatemala?
Guadalajara is my family’s home city. In September the city host the Mariachi festivals. If you are there during that time it is a blast.
Well be here and we'll really enjoy it! Especially after this pandemic.
When you make it to Lake Chapala area go to Jocotepec and have Birria for lunch at Birria Arturo. Best Birria is in Joco.
We'll add it to the list!
And the ice cream is yummy yummy in Jocotepec
@@TheYarbros when yo come to jocotepec let me know I will give u tour

That’s where Tapatío Hot Sauce gets its name!
Thanks again for sharing your awesome perspective! It's so beautiful to see us out in the world exploring and thriving. Keep posting! Can't wait for the next video.
GOD, You guys are So beautiful, and I mean , your Spirit, Your faces, Your Smiles, beautiful people; with beautiful Smiles & Personalities. Thank You for this video.
You two are a beautiful couple. Thank you for loving our city and the state of Jalisco. I hope you’re feeling welcomed and at home. Saludos ✌🏻

We will definitely try out the bike system! And Ajijic too - we love mariscos!
Love that you both are so open in sharing day to day info with us! Be safe, have fun, stay healthy!
Guadalajara Jalisco Mx. is the BEST place to live. There is SO much to do and the weather and the short distance of things reminds me of southern California (expect for the occasional rain).
I lived there for 3 years 💝 LOVE IT
You two are awesome, thanks for the knowledge. We are looking to move to Oaxaca...first😉
Home of Mezcal and some delicious cheese. Enjoy making those #bigmoves. -and thanks again for your positivity! -We love it!
So cool!
Not skipping ads to account for the change in rent lol thanks for the content!
We need every single dime too 🤣😂 #weappreciateyou
Such good, nice, and respectful people you both are. I'm happy you found a piece of Mexico for yourselves to live a happy life together in my beloved Mexico... you definitely deserve it.

I enjoy watching your videos with a really great perspective on travel and living abroad. There is so much more to visit and tour in Mexico than just it's beach resorts, and Guadalajara is one of the most beautiful cities there. I've lived in and travelled through Mexico a lot, including Guadalajara as a kid in the 1970s. My wife and I recently travelled to Guadalajara for a vacation weekend and that's how I was introduced to your channel. Thanks for sharing and please keep up the good work!
We really appreciate the support!
Beautiful couple!
May a God continue to bless your union💙

Gracias Señor y Señora Yarbro!! He vivido en Aguascalientes uno o dos semanas por mes. I have visited Leon, Guanajuato, CDMX EDOMEX Zacatecas and look forward to Guadalajara. Your positive energy and wit are infectious!!!
Oh man, thanks for visiting Guadalajara, been there most of my life, born and raised. IF you guys like mountain scenery, please visit a couple of pueblos mágicos, Mazamitla, and Tapalpa, on a less than 2 hours bus ride. you'll be amazed. Chapala and Ajijic are also a must-see destination. lots of retired ex-pats living there.
Roger that! We will be visiting at least 2 of those places. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your answer.
Welcome to Mexico. I am glad you are loving the place you are living in now. Have a great time in a great city such as Guadalajara. Become more local, mingle local people and place and ride along with it.

You have really good taste, Chapalita is indeed one of the best places to live in the city
We thought so too! -thanks for watching.
I just found your channel and I love your videos. I am a Texan married to a Mexican lady and Mexico is my second house.. You need to visit Monterrey.
Hi do you live alone? Just curious about how comfortable you feel in this city traveling alone?
what she said... seriously you need a car but I guess you'll find out
@Shalea Vanderwaal (or @Sergio Rios) I would love to hear more since you have lived in Guadalajara for five years. Did it become more dangerous in 2016/2017? What are some things one can do to be more safe? Don't go out at night. Go with someone else if possible. Look to see if someone is watching before using an ATM. Don't use a phone in public Thanks in advance for any advice you have :)

I'm moving to Mexico in 2021, Now that my online company is taking off. I'm sooooo excited!!!! I'm over the U.S!!!!
My God those tacos looked amazing! Al Pastor is my absolute fave meat! Yum!! Happy travels to you both!!
Thank you...and yes they really were surprised me like 😮
Pastor is good!
Gurl yassss! Al pastor is my fav too!

Keep it up!

Yeah, we said a prayer for that city. I am sure they are going to be alright!
